Dr. Kim Chronister is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. She earned a doctoral degree in clinical psychology from Alliant International University (CSPP). She worked her way through her undergraduate program as a certified personal trainer successfully changing the lives and wellbeing of numerous clients. While pursuing her master’s degree in clinical psychology, she worked as a therapist at AIDS Services Foundation (ASF). During her placement at ASF, Dr. Kim Chronister facilitated a substance abuse group and provided individual as well as couples therapy to clients of diverse backgrounds. While pursuing her doctoral degree in clinical psychology, she provided individual, couples, and group therapy to clients suffering from anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa at an inpatient eating disorder unit in an acute psychiatric facility in southern California. She has extensive experience utilizing dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) with clients struggling with eating disorders, interpersonal issues, substance use disorders, anxiety, and depression. She also utilizes motivational interviewing (MI) to help clients regain motivation to engage in physical activity to decrease stress and improve mood. Dr. Chronister uses a strength-based approach and focuses on strengths of individuals and couples rather than pathology. As a wellness expert, Dr. Chronister has been asked to comment on such subjects as substance abuse, relationships, and sexuality for respected magazines and documentaries. Her passion for health as it relates to clinical psychology is evidenced in her freelance writing for such publications as The National Psychologist and A & U Magazine as well as in her book “The Psychology Behind Fitness Motivation: A Revolutionary New Program to Lose Weight and Stay Fit for Life.” Dr. Chronister emphasizes in her writing and clinical practice the importance of exercise on mood and overall well-being for individuals and couples.
