“Fixit (Fixit Adventures #1)” is a delightfully entertaining SciFi short story, narrated wonderfully by Hollie Jackson.

In book #1 of what is currently a three book series (I’m hoping for more!), we meet MC Fixit, a spunky geek mechanic who toils planet side on Tau Ceti Prime to provide food for the obnoxious upper class citizens who reside in floating cities. Despite what could be viewed as a miserable, lonely life…Fixit is chipper and happy. Her best friends, those she calls her family, are “pingers” – a collection of AI robots who do most of the physical work for the food crops. Her job is to keep the pingers in working order, despite having to scrounge for spare parts.

When a food shipment is stolen by pirates, Fixit is forced to bring a replacement shipment herself. When that shipment is attacked by pirates, we meet the other MC – skyguard captain Vashon. While Fixit is yummy geeky, Vachon is yummy physical, and sparks fly between them. Actually, sparks fly throughout the book as many of the pingers are kept together by everything but duct tape!!

I listened to this audiobook with straight friends on a road trip, and they LOVED it as much as I did. My only criticism is that at 1.5hrs long each, I wish Schubach had combined all three books into a single book. At least Audible makes the books available at reasonable prices; you don’t need to spend an entire credit for each.

5* for “Fixit”!

I'm not sure what I was expecting. This is the second offering from this author I've listened to, and it was enjoyable.

A slow burn, and also very isolated (very little interactions currently), but like I said enjoyable.

The audiobook was well done, and definitely was a nice thing to listen to while stuck next to a napping baby.

Just a quick and fun SF novella.

Fixit is one of the few people still living on the surface of Tau Ceti Prime. There she is the best fixer of anything mechanical. Responsible for the agricultural production of the Primers who live in their opulent cities in the sky. Everything is just business as usual.... until some snooty Topsider demands she makes a delivery herself.... because the previous one was stolen by pirates...

This was just a joy to listen to. Erik Schuback manged to write a quite, fun and uplifting novella. Fixit and her Pinger friends (read IA's) have a genuine happy feel about them that make even the harsher and unequal side of their society almost negligible. Add to that the excellent narration of Hollie Jackson to complement the tone perfectly.

In all this is a genuine enjoyable story that has me scrambling for the sequal.

Fans of Erik Schubach's characters will find a familiarity with "Fixit" which I think means fans should also like the character as well. The story is enjoyable but being a short story, well, it's a quick read. The story has a similar feel (to me anyway, might be the exception) to the "The Valkyrie Chronicles" but without the exceptionally powerful antagonists. On a personal level, reading this story I was reminded how much I really miss a favorite character of mine, Arina the Whispering Breeze, Second to Kate the Raging Storm, First Valkyrie of Earth... (Yes, BIG hint here, couldn't resist).

Loved this book. It's a quick read but well worth the time and effort to do so. The characters are quirky and fun and I cannot wait for more in this novella series.

Cute characters and story. Would have been a 5 star if it were longer but damn it was super short. I'm not used to reading such short stories, but I liked the premise and wanted to give it a try. I liked it, it was quite enjoyable and I really like Fixit and Vashon.

Great short story! I didn't even bother reading the description before wanting this book. Erik and Hollie are a perfect combo! Great sci-fi short about mechanic and and her A.I. friends. And of course a sweet little female romance which I always enjoy in Erik's books. Of course I think it's Hollie's voice that makes it so much sweeter!

It is a great story of finding someone that you never thought of in a stressful situation on an alien world. It is a quick read for the mini series that Erik is creating.

I don't remember when I added this to my wish list but I really wanted to read it. It's a tease for sure but I love it. Can't wait to be able to get the next one.

The Earth-side have-nots toil away for the needs of the 1% living luscious lives in sky cities. When a shipment goes missing via air pirates, whizbang mechanic Vega Hasher, aka Fixit, is forced to deliver replacements or face punitive actions. This Sci-Fi morsel, narrated by frequent Erik Schubach audiobook collaborator Hollie Jackson, immerses readers in the world of Tau Ceti Prime, though leaves listeners feeling as if they stopped up against the edge of a cliff. Think of the Fixit series as serialized adventures starring the resourceful and mechanically adept Fixit: Where will our heroine end up next? Will she find love with the statuesque member of the sky guard? Additional characters in this novelette production include her A.I./semi-sentient robotic companions (which she much prefers to people) and the snooty steward. Schubach also includes fun exclamatory expressions, like "boot waffle".

Fix it. (Short story /sci-fi )

What a delightful experience this short story was.
A really good strong female lead character, who is a gifted mechanic/engineer , assisted by almost human robots in keeping a broken down ramshackle planetary agricultural station afloat with nothing more than gum and paperclips. Has a wildly adventurous day.
The only reason I didn't give the author five stars is that this story deserves a book , what I read in such a way too short time was great. FIX IT! Is a great character, tinged with a tragic history, and the world of the characters was top notch, not too much or too little information, just enough to imagine the beginning of a well fleshed out world. You could really make a grand space opera with what you have here.

Too short

I feel like I just read the first chapters of a book and then it ended. For a short story it was okay... I liked it, but was left feeling cheated at the end. Thank goodness for kindle unlimited which made the fact that it was only 42 pages palatable. Well worth reading on KU in spite of the frustrating ending

Fun!

This was an absolutely fun read! Quick, catchy and the quirky characters were a blast. It was a fast read starting and moving smoothly to the end. Fixit and the mechs were great fun and the dialog kept it light and fast paced. Great story! Hope there's more to this coming.

Don't normally like short stories, I did like this one. Imaginative and has that Sci-Fi bent I love so much. Cute characters, I have a feeling Erik will develop them. Let's get a nice 800 page story of them eh Erik?

Good Short

Fixit is an interesting character. I wonder what will happen next to her. I liked the story and the way Fixit interacted with the AI machines.

Vapid, no plot , character was beyond shallow. No redeeming value at all. Worst $1.42 I've spent on kindle in a while

cute story

I love this out of this World Series. I love how Fixit doesn’t care that she is a dirt worker. I also love how she treats the machines like people.

going to review all 4 here

You might as well just get all 4 books up front. Once you start reading you'll just want to keep going.
Each book is between 40 - 70 pages and tells a single continuous story so I'm going to review the series as a single book, because it basically is.
I freaking fell in love with this book/series. Fixit and friends are so damn cute. The whole series is delightfully charming. The lesbian elements are pretty low-key. Sex is admitted to but not shown. The plot and world building are engaging and pull you in with clear simplicity. The number one thing about this series is the feels. It just feels great from start to finish. I do recommend this for anyone who wants an up beat feel good romance between a spunky space mechanic and her sky captain girl friend.

This was a short, fun steampunk style read that overall I enjoyed. There were quite a few copyediting errors (typos, missing punctuation, etc) and sometimes the main character's voice was a bit unbelievable but the worldbuilding was neat and the robot characters were fun.

Writing was good. Somewhat humorous. But overall, I was mostly bored. I put down my Kindle a number of times as I lost interest. Since it's a fairly short story, it should have been easy to read in a single sitting.

This is classed as a short story, but really its more like the first one or two chapters of a book that you sometimes get as ‘taster’.
There is an interesting start to the story with some amusing robot characters as well as ‘Fixit’ herself. There is then an incident with some pirates and an interesting meeting with a Sky Ranger, then it ends!
OK the incident was a nice little story, but it left so many lose ends that I was left more annoyed than replete. I presume this is what the author wants, which I hope means he intends to add to this story at a later date.

3 1/2 stars, I like the writing, I like the story but it just kind of ends in the middle, I assume that it's completed in the second volume "Glitch". But I don't understand why not finish the story right here in the first volume, if it had then this would have 4 stars.

Oh! What to say about this book?

Well, first of I didn't think I'd like it.
I started reading it, and was bored withing pages.
There's a lot of infodumping and worldbuilding - like 3 chapters of it, and this book is only 6 chapters long.
This was too much.
I think the only reason I read it all the way through was because of the short lenght of it.

It is OK written, but I found some writing mistakes.

Other than that I don't think there's much to say.
It was a fast enough read, when I got past the infodumping in the beginning.
There was a small actionpart that I liked, and I was surprised about the love interest!

Good plot, good characters, hasty writng

I enjoyed the presentation of the main character and her robots. They were camp and funny. Her delivery problems were believable. While her troubles with the authorities were somewhat extreme, it was not until the space patrol intervention that my ability to immerse in the story was challenged. Some of the narration included slang terms -- acceptable in conversation, not in narration.

i liked it. it was quirky fun to read. The only complaint is that there was too much repetition of information, which was a waste of space and words.

Would like to read a sequel or more of this world. Really don't like the abrupt but acceptable ending.
