The Complete guide to Dog Training is a great book that not only gives the reader the history of some dog training aspects but also teaches pet owners the correct way of dog training. This book assumes that you a responsible person who has read many articles and books on dog basics and training. It goes over the basics again but dives more into the psychology and correct method rather than the reasons for following this method. This book also assumes that every person is exercising caution when working with dogs, as well as uses common sense. As an example, the author asks the reader to have the dog off leash with a nearby dog that has no owner nearby. A dog owner with experience would advise you to run from this situation or keep your dog on-leash and monitor the other dog closely. Perhaps a dog that has been proven to never fail to be recalled or mastered the basics to the fullest extent (like stay and sit) will be able to handle this situation, but not a first-time dog owner with a six-month puppy. Many other exercises ask the owner to be present with other dogs. Great exercise, fantastic socialization opportunity but not always practical when no familiar dogs are available at the moment, unless you and other dog owners have scheduled a time to specifically work on this exercise.

Not the best book for beginners, but a greate asset I would recommend to read.

This book was obviously written by a very experienced dog breeder and was rather inaccessible to the average dog owner. We needed some much more down to earth practical advice.
