Fed up with the rut of every day working life, James Howland, a primary school teacher and fanatical Crystal Palace supporter, decides to move to Australia for a year. However, there is only one problem. How will he cope without his beloved South London team? Follow his journey to eleven different countries as he discovers red and blue around the world and gives an 'upside down' view of the 2014-15 Premier League season. The book also contains special contribitions from for Palace Captain, Mile Jedinak, Palace's co-owner, Steve Browett, and Palace fans from all over the world.
Not as clever or engaging as the first book unfortunately it reads partly as a gap year travel blog, partly as a discursive diary of one who is homesick. It is unfortunately “lite on” football content but at least that football is Palace. Input from supporters, fans and owners was interesting including a heartfelt letter from a mother of an asd son who has found himself at Selhurst Park was particularly moving.
As a fellow Palace fan I really enjoyed this especially as I was in Australia in 1989/90 and missed the FA cup final so it brought back a lot of good memories 🦅
