When Heather Shepherd discovers that the Hillside Annual Bake-Off has been canceled, she’s frustrated – she already had her newest batch of donuts prepared to wow the judges.
But that frustration dissolves when she finds out the reason for the postponement: a Hillside reporter has been murdered on the night before the televised competition’s start. Heather decides she has to solve the case, and bustles into another murder mystery, equipped with her thirst for the truth, encouragement from all her friends at Donut Delights, and, as always, a box of her newest creation: Double Chocolate Pistachio Donuts. As always, the truth is difficult to find, thanks to a jealous best friend, a long-suffering boss, and a man, who seems to disappear at will.
Heather has to figure this one out before the killer strikes again, or the Hillside Ultimate Bake-off will never reach TV.
This is the 27th novella in Susa Gillard’s Donut Hole Cozy Mystery series and is a quick, easy, and clean read, but editing and proofing is lacking. Heather Shepherd and her Donut Delights staff are preparing for the Hillside Annual Bake-Off but due to a murder, the competition had to be rescheduled. Tina Laurent, a news reporter who rubbed a lot of people the wrong, was found strangled in her hotel room a day before the bake-off. Heather’s detective husband, Ryan, has made an arrest but even though she helped with the investigation, Heather isn’t convinced the right person is sitting in jail.

Volume 27 of the Donut Hole series finds Heather Shepherd preparing for Hillside's Annual Bake Off. Her preparations are cut short when news of the murder of a local reporter breaks and Heather is called upon to help solve the case.
The Donut Hole series offers short, entertaining reads. Susan Gillard provides enough twists and turns to keep the reader interested. Heather, her family and coworkers continue to evolve with each new story. If you are a fan of cozy mysteries, you'll enjoy this series.

This is the 27th in the series and in this one, Heather and Amy came close to losing their life. Heather and Ryan work together in the murder of a reporter covering a baking contest. Ryan believes he knows who dunit and arrests someone . Heather is sure he's got the wrong person and for the first time Ryan doesn't listen but before Heather can prove him wrong she almost loses her life. Cool ending.
Heather Shepherd is once again on the case. She's baking up delicious donuts and tracking down killers. Susan Gillard has once again held me captive from the very first page and I am excited to see what she has in store next for the daring Mrs. Shepherd and her band of merry bakers.
Another entertaining story that can be enjoyed by all ages. Nice clean reading with no gory details of the murder. I would let my 12 year old granddaughter read these books. Highly recommended.
Donut maker and bakery owner, Heather Shephard, has just come up with a new donut delight that she calls double chocolate pistachio. Double chocolate and pistachios are a perfect combination and the customers in her bakery, Donut Delights, agree wholeheartedly. But as soon as Heather comes up with a new tasty treat it seems like a new murder happens in her hometown of Hillside, Texas and once again that has happened.
Heather and all the other bakers in town are preparing for The Hillside Annual Bake-Off and her main competitor is none other than Kate Laverne. The two women do not get along and to top it off, Kate’s brother is Geoff Lawless, Heather’s nemesis. But Heather and her best friend and assistant, Amy Givens, plan on beating all the competitors and walking away with the win.
When Heather and Amy take a look at the bake-off site the day before the competition they meet Tina Laurent, a reporter for a news station. Everyone is excited to find out that the competition will be televised. But Tina soon stalks off when she and her cameraman, Mike Martin, get into an argument about the owner of the television network, George Rockwell.
Two hours later Heather learns from her husband, Police Detective Ryan Shepherd, that Tina has been murdered, strangled with her laptop cord, in her hotel room.
Once again the Hillside Police Department asks Heather to help investigate. The first place she goes is to the scene of the crime, the hotel room, where she finds a pearl earring near the edge of the bed. But is it Tina’s earring or someone else’s? Could this be a piece of evidence leading to the killer?
At this moment Heather has two suspects, the cameraman, Mike Martin and the network owner, George Rockwell. But there’s a woman suspect too, Lottie Jameson. Lottie and Tina were old high school friends so why would she kill Tina? For that matter why would the cameraman and the network owner kill the reporter? Heather has some hard investigating to do to bring the murderer to justice.
“Double Chocolate Pistachio Murder” by Susan Gillard is the 27th book in this donut hole cozy mystery series. Like the previous 26 books, this one is very entertaining with an interesting murder. All the characters appear in every book so fans get to find out how their lives are going. We also get to see a personal side of Heather that incorporates her husband Ryan and their young, pre-teen daughter, Lilly, not to mention her donut-loving dog, Dave.
Reading one of these stories is relaxing and a good way to spend a cold, gloomy, day. Pick up a copy of “Double Chocolate Pistachio Murder”and find a comfy couch to relax in and visit Hillside, Texas as Heather solves another murder.

What a busy time!!! The Hillside Annual Bake-Off is scheduled. Heathers Shepherd's nemesis Kate is one of the competitors. The competition will be televised but then it is postponed due to the death of a controversial reporter. The reporter had traps filled with rats which would be released at the competition so she could have a sensational story. So who killed her? Heather and Amy investigate the situation. What will they discover?? Dave, the dog and Cupcake, the cat are involved the story. The Bake-Off special for Heather is her new creation, the Double Chocolate Pistachio Donut. This is book # 27 in the Donut Hole Cozy Mystery series. It can be read as a stand alone. I volunteered to read this eBook. Thank to the author for the eBook. My opinion is my own
This is Book 27 in the Donut Hole Cozy Mysteries and I certainly love the sound of their new Donut, Double Chocolate Pistachio. Heather is getting ready for the Hillside Annual Bake-Off and she is a little nervous as she will be competing with Kate Laverne, new baker in town and her arch nemesis. The day before the event she meets reporter Tina Laurent who will be covering the big event. Not long after, Tina is found dead in her hotel room. The search is on to find the killer. With several people to choose from, I have to admit I didn't come up with the right one. This book is wonderful and I loved the ending!

Heather and Amy are getting ready for the bake off. When Ryan tells Heather it has been postponed because of a murder. The victim is a nasty reporter that Heather had met earlier in the day. Once again Heather with Amy help Ryan to solve the murder. A quick fun read and another donut that made me wanting to taste it!

More fun and adventure with Heather Shepard. Plus the new doughnut of the week.
How to win a cooking competition plus solve a murder and come up with a new doughnut all before the wrong person goes to jail. These are such cute short stories that leave you with a smile on your fat e.
I did enjoy this book and the more and more I read this series, I realized how much I can't stand Kate Laverne. I mean she is just nasty for no reason. But of course I love Geoff Lawless now. I can not wait to start reading book 28 lol. Keep up the series Susan, I don't really care for the murders because they're starting to becom predictable but I do like the side stories.
Heather and Amy follow the clues to find the real murderer.. Not the one that was arrested. The victim was not popular but the killer was smart enough to point the police in another direction
Who is the better baker? Heather's new (old?) rival, Kate, has challenged Heather to compete against her in the Hillside Annual Bake-Off but it's postponed before it can even begin because of murder. Heather and Amy are once again drawn into the investigation with Heather doing what she does best. I really like the rivalry between Heather and Kate because, not only are they both successful businesswomen, but their personalities are the opposites. Kate is driven by hatred and is obsessed with bringing Heather down but Heather is more focused on all of the good in her life especially Ryan and Lilly. What I'd really like to know is where the incredible donuts ideas come from because each one makes me drool more than the one before. YUM!

I get why Karen has been added, but at the same time I want her to be used more. With the new cupcake shop in town, I don't know how that is supposed to be competing with the donut shop. Introducing the Bake off angle in this book was a fun way to actually make Karen and Heather go head to head, I just which there was more written about it.
The murder in this book was interesting, and I enjoyed how the clues didn't add up until later on in the book. For the first time in a while I only figured out who killed the victim slightly before the end of the book.
Also, the victim was well fleshed out in this book, much better than previous books which adds to the story. This was probably on of the better books so far in this series.
