Heartbeats by Sarah O’Rourke
4 stars!!!

“For the first time in my life, I can feel my heart beating. And it’s beating for us."

This is my first read by Sarah O’Rourke and as well as delivering a cute romance this book had me chuckling as they expertly nailed the hilarious shenanigans only an oestrogen filled Italian family could bring. This book caught my eye because of my favourite TV programme, Criminal Minds. Both our hero and heroine are criminal profilers and I had visions of long loved characters at the BAU coming to life in words. While this book only touches on their careers, I was more than satisfied, but this story is more about the romance between Matteo Cassano and Brenna Langley and what a smile inducing one it was.

This is a whirl wind romance and moves at warp speed, but these two have known each other a long time and have lusted over each other from afar for a while. So, for those that are not a fan of instalove please bear that in mind.

Brenna is in her mid-twenties and has been admiring her older colleague, Matteo for quite some time. Even though Brenna is a strong woman, when it comes to her love life she is a lot more reserved. When Brenna comes across a piece of information pertaining to Matteo that has her all worried about his welfare, operation subterfuge comes into play as she tries in vain to help her languishing colleague, with hilarious at times results.

“Hell hath no fury like three Cassano sisters who have been misinformed.”

With Mama Cassano and three “Spawn” sisters the oestrogen levels in the Cassano family is at an all-time high and being the oldest and the only male in the family the females in the Cassano’s have Matteo wrapped around their little fingers and there is nothing that this Italian man wouldn’t do for any of them. Much to Matteo’s dismay though, it cuts both ways and these Italian women are just as forthright and bossy when it comes to their son and brother.

“And hell hath no fury like the three Cassano sisters who were just following their Mama's orders.”

Matteo doesn’t have a great track record with women and with his job and his other career as an author there is not much time in his hectic life for the opposite sex. However, Brenna Langley may just be the exception to the rule, if Matteo can get his head out his back side to realise. With the rest of the Cassano’s firmly on Brenna’s side though, Matteo does not stand a chance, not that he wants to.

"I want the fairytale, Matteo. I never realized that I did until now."

I had tears of laughter reading this one, these Italian women are funny as hell as individuals and hilarious as a collective. The passion and love in the Cassano family is the crux that holds them together and anyone reading would be envious of the connection that this family has. Low on angst, high on laughs and steam Sarah O’Rourke deliver a well-rounded story that gives you a huge dose of the warm and fuzzies. Heart-warming and panty melting this was a great, easy read.

“Only a mother's voice could hit that exactly perfect tone, an incredulous mixture of guilt and shame, with just a touch of irritation thrown in for good measure.”

My Review:

Matteo Cassano has a demanding job with the FBI; an elderly yet vibrant and meddlesome mother; three sassy and mouthy younger sisters that he has labeled as harpies and the Sisters of Satan; a smoking hot new love affair budding with his FBI co-worker that has been leading a double life and nefariously woven her way into every aspect of his life; and the least of his problems is a newly discovered heart condition. What is a coffee/red meat/sweets addict to do but ignore his Dr. and continue on in denial? The storyline is heaving with humor, argumentative family drama, and erotic sensual scenes. Oh my.

5 STARS!

I'm a huge fan of Sarah O'Rourke's, and their Passion in Paradise: The Men of the McKinnon Sisters series is one of my all time favorites. Heartbeats is something totally new from them, and I really enjoyed it! I can always count on these two creative collaborators to deliver a healthy dose of their unique sense of humor, and they definitely did that it in this well-written standalone.

Matteo Cassano and Brenna Langley are FBI colleagues with crushes on each other. When Brenna learns a secret about Matteo, she launches her own undercover operation to ensure he's taking matters seriously and runs herself ragged in the process. Fortunately, she has a team in place in the form of Matteo's old school Italian mother and three overbearing younger sisters. But what starts out as Brenna's plan to save Matteo, takes a sharp turn when it's Matteo who has to save Brenna. What will happen when these two headstrong, proud and brilliant minds realize that it's their hearts on the line?

Sweet, hilarious and sexy, Sarah O'Rourke gave her readers a great love story in Heartbeats. I absolutely loved it!

Wonderfully written, very well developed story with characters who will get you in their grasp and not let go. Emotions fly in this book, all emotions, taking you along for the ride as Mat And Breanna jump headfirst into their love story, once they realize what their feelings are for one another.

This is a thoroughly enjoyable read as some of Breanna's tactics are quite amusing. I have to agree with another reviewer about one particular line in the book; “Right here, right now, I'm with you. Feel my heart, honey. Feel those heartbeats. They're strong. baby. I'm right here, and that heart is beating for you. I'm not going anywhere." Not many lines from a book stay with me after I have finished the book and have moved on to another one, but this line right here is one that has imprinted itself into my mind and will remain there for quite some time.

Highly recommend this book. Great job Sarah O'Rourke.

Loved how Bren swept Matteo off his feet and discombobulated him. She genuinely cared about him and his well being.

bren was independent, feisty, caring and a take charge woman. She also was madly and wildly in love with Matteo. Matteo was a strong willed stubborn but smart and caring man. He was attracted to all of bren’s characteristics from the moment he joined her team at the FBI. I loved how close Matteo was with his family but also his love and respect for them. He also had tremendous respect for Bren even if he was a idiot and almost lost her due to letting his past and anger overrule his mind. It let’s you know he is passionate even when he is being a doof. He did make it up though and in a grand fashion.

From the beginning of the story you see the passion and desire between Matteo and Bren. You also see how much she cares for him. she sacrifices so much to make sure he is okay and does this without pomp or circumstance. In fact he has no idea. These two are perfect together. they banter in a entertaining fashion and stand up to each other when necessary. But they love each other and respect one another and that is the shining factor. Oh and his mom loves her. I think she likes bren more than Matteo. That mom is so cute. I love her pushy loving ways and how he will do anything for her. His banter with his sisters was awesome as well.

this is the moving and entertaining story of Matteo and Bren. How they are attracted to one another from the get go and work to be there for one another. How they are passionate and supportive of each other and will do everything they can for the other. We see the lengths of this from Bren. The story of how one must let the past go so that the future is screwed up and almost does screw up the future when they don’t learn this right away. The story of love, family and friendship. Of finding the one you are meant to be with and doing everything to let them know how you feel. It is a tender, sensual, at times maddening with the stupid moves of Matteo, entertaining and endearing story. the ending will bring a smile to your face and so will the coming together of Matteo and Bren.

This is a standalone romance. Sarah O’Rourke you have done it again. This book was amazing.

FBI profiler Matteo Cassano gives the orders, not taking them. Well as long as they aren't orders from Mama Cassano. He is a legend in the FBI and is somewhat of a control freak. He could have any woman he wants, abs probable had, but that was before he meets the younger Brenna Langley. She just might be the one woman who changes life for the better.
Brenna Langley is professional, focused, and determined to move ahead in the FBI. She had her father to thank for getting into this career, he always pushed her. She had decided that romance was out for her until she meet the older Matt Cassano. They may end before they even begin if she can just save him from his stubborn self.

This was such a sexy story. I would say cute but that just doesn't get my point across. My all time favorite scene in this book was when Brenna meet his family. Boy are they a force to reckoned with. I don't actually think she really understood what she was getting into. Even when he warned her. I'm not giving spoilers away. You would just have to read the book to understand why i liked it. Now Brenna, wow, she is a really hard worker. When she sets her mind to something she gets it done. That's probably why she makes an amazing FBI agent. Now Matt i love me a good silver fox. They way Sarah O'Rourke decried him in her book, i swooned, i will admit it. He was sexy, at least in my mind. But Matt honey you almost lost me to your own stubbornness, all Brenna wanted to do was take care of you. When these two got together or was fireworks. They are amazing together. The sex scenes, oh man the sex scenes, i needed a cold shower after. Mama Cassano, she is a hoot. She alone is a force to be reckoned with. Being the only boy with 3 other sisters had to have been difficult but Mama loves her boy. And she really knows everything. It was kind of scary. I loved how she knew before Brenna and Matt that they would be amazing together.

Sarah O'Rourke will always be a go-to author for me. Their book tend to be sweet, easy, heartwarming, and longer in length. And I am always promised a good time with a super amazing happy ending when reading their books. Heartbeats in the newest standalone from this writing duo and boy did they give me a story.

Heartbeats was the perfect lazy afternoon read. This book kept a perma-smile on my face and left my heart bursting with love. Matteo and Brenna... what an amazing story and journey these two took me on. Full of ups and downs and everything in between, these two pulled at my heartstrings and rooted themselves there.

If you are new to this writing pair, this is the PERFECT way to start your journey with them.

I highly recommend this book.

Reading this book I felt like I was part of a huge Italian family, mama cassano is a force to reckoned with! Mat is a profiler for the FBI, he has control in all areas of his life, except for one. Brenna has given up on love but has a huge crush on Mat, once they get together the Sparks scorch your kindle! Brenna is hiding something from Matt, but it really is for his own good. With a little help from mama cassano they save Matt from himself. I really enjoyed this book, I read it in one sitting. I liked that Matt was a silver fox, he has lots of swoon worthy moments. I loved the background characters, they really enhance the story. Overall an enjoyable read.

This is Brenna and Matteo’s story. Matteo is used to giving orders. Brenna thinks romance is not for her. Failed relationships have convinced her of this. But can she help Matt even if in secret? When she discovers his secret she is on her own mission to help him out. But when he finds out will he be thankful or furious? Can these two overcome their issues to push forward with a future? Or will her knowing his secret make him push her away from him?

I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read. I love the family feel in the books. You get a little of everything.

I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next story from this author.

this author has a fab way of telling stories that you just get sucked in from the first page. This book has an amazing couple for the lead characters. This is a fantastic romantic comedy with the added suspense to keep you reading long into the night. This book can be read as a stand alone read. I cant wait for more by this author in the future.

I loved this book. It was like criminal minds in the book format. But the book focused more on the personal lives of two of the agents. I loved the family and friends. Initially I thought this would be an emotional read but it was mostly funny and I'm definitely going to read this book again and even recommend it to the people who likes a romance novel with amazing characters and a good laugh with a hea. I'm so glad I read this one.

P.S: I was given this book in exchange of my honest review.

Absolutely loved it

One of the great books by this author. Well told, great main and supporting characters, lots of humour, sex and a mama and sisters called Satan’s spawn to make a really great read. Cannot praise it highly enough. Would love to have seen mamas reaction to the News at the end but really enjoyed this book.

Meh.

This book was like watching a season of Criminal Minds on Netflix, but not getting to see them solve the crimes. It was just a season of the behind the scenes story complete with Penelope Garcia in the character of Clover.

Enjoyable read

I enjoyed this book. I found some of the timeline references to be confusing as in it didn't seem to add up right, but other than that it was a good story. I can definitely see the characters being loosely based on the television show Criminal Minds.

I'm a fan of Sarah O'Rourke's books and I was looking forward to reading Heartbeats but have to admit that I didn't enjoy it as much as previous reads from the ladies.

Matteo and Bren had a great connection and banter. Their chemistry was obvious even before they acted on their feelings and they were hot. Matt's family were fun (though his sisters were a little OTT!)

It was a well written, fun and hot read as you'd expect from the Crazies.

I'm giving Heartbeats 3.75*

Brenna Lagley is a super smart FBI profiler, who is focused and very professional. After having a few crap relationships, she's decided to just focus on moving up in the FBI. But when she meets Matt Cassano, she develops a crush, and finds herself in a mission to save him from himself without him catching on. Legendary FBI profiler, and best selling author, Matteo Cassano lives a controlled life, where he gives the orders. So when he learns that he has a serious health issue, he just ignores it, and doesn't let on that there's a problem. He can have any woman in the world that he wants, but he's become a bit jaded from bad relationships in his past. However, he can't seem to get Brenna out of his head. and he finally starts spending time with her, outside the office. But when two strong personalities clash, who will win the contest of wills, and will there be hope for the new relationship when the dust settles?!

Sarah O'Rourke has become an author that I don't even read the blurb anymore to know that I will LOVE LOVE LOVE the book. So I had no clue what Heartbeats was about, just that I had to read it, and boy, was I BLOWN AWAY with this EPIC GOODNESS! I'm a HUGE fan of the Passion in Paradise series, but her super talented writing style has shown to be brilliantly versatile with this standalone, and now I'm conflicted to whether I want to be taken away to Paradise, or to the FBI! I have to wonder if she just breaks out in random laughter throughout her days, as she raises the bar for witty banter in all of her books, and Heartbeats is no exception. I laughed and laughed hard, until my stomach and sides were in agony, especially when Mama Cassano came to play, not to mention the 3 sisters of Satan, and Clover, well think of a more hysterical Penelope Garcia of Criminal Minds. If the laughter wasn't enough, and trust me it was for the perfect rating alone, then the flammable chemistry of Matt and Brenna, which EXPLODES into A HUGE FIERY BALL OF FLAMES, that will take out all panties too slow to get out of it's path, should do it. I will NEVER EVER get enough of this BRILLIANT author, so I'm finishing this review while shouting from my rooftop, that I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY and yes, HIGHLY RECOMMEND Heartbeats to EVERYONE WHO CAN HEAR ME!

First I'd like to say that I went into this book blind and loved it from page one to the end ..

Brenna has been eyeing Matteo quietly for months and her feelings only grew stronger, when Brent found out Matteos secret she will go to the ends of the world to help him? Can her intrusive behavior hinder her quest to be with him..

Matteo has been adoring Brenna from afar noticing her notice him, he has trust issues, he stubborn, and most of all he doesn't like to be told what to do or what not to do..

This book hooked me from page one, it flowed nicely never felt lost or confused..
If I had to change anything it would be the use of first and last name over half the time names are mentioned it tapered off near the ending chapters

My favorite secondary character is Matts Mama! She's feisty and some reason I pictured a dark haired version of Sophia from Golden Girls.. this book is laugh worthy and so good.. I love all the books Sarah O'Rourke has put out thus far.. keeping it coming

Well, the crazies have done it yet again!! Matteo and Bren are yet another stunning example of why this amazing writing duo is one of my top three faves in the writing world!! These ladies absolutely know how to tell a story!!

And man what a story Matteo and Bren have to tell. These two, who we find out are already pretty linked together not just professionally, but emotionally, start off with a bang. It's a bit unlike some of Sarah's other stories, in that these two are colleagues, ones who have wanted each other from afar for quite a while, but for some reason have put off acting on those feelings. Their history is laid out for us pretty much from the get go, so there isn't a lot of back story here- it's pretty much an in the moment kind of book. Which, I for one, enjoy. Sometimes, reliving a lot of history is tedious and boring, and takes away from the focus of the present story that we have in front of us.

I was a bit worried about how they started off- given that their was an air of deceit from each of them going in. Even though it was with the best of intentions at heart, honesty should have been front and center on both their parts. However, I can certainly see why each acted and reacted the way that they did with the news that was presented to them. Good thing we had Mama Cassano to keep them both straight!! God bless that woman!!

Now, on to the good and steamy... These two- OMG, talk about explosive. Let's just say that for a man of Matteo's age- he can move. And he does it well. Age, and health, have most certainly not slowed that man down. At all. Not in the least. The man is a beast in bed. And I freaking loved it. What was even better? Bren could not only handle it, but craved it. Wanted him just the way he was. Beautiful.

I've said it before, and I will say it again, I am SO happy that I discovered these ladies so many months ago when I read an excerpt for one of their books, and sent them a message- begging them to let me review them! Honestly, I did. I was hooked on their words from the start. That's how amazing they were. So, if you are looking for some wonderful stories to take you away to the land of romance and erotica- pick up some Sarah O'Rourkes now!!! Worth every penny!!!!

Just one more beat...

Great romantic comedy with a little suspense and lots of passion! You feel like you are in the middle of a huge Italian family get together. While balancing workplace romance on the federal level. Not your traditional Passion in Paradise romance - this one is more city chic and less country and I loved it!! And now a bit about the story...

Bren has been drawn to Matteo since be came back to work. What she doesn't know is he feels the same way. However long shifts tracking down unSubs (think Criminal Minds) keeps distracting them from many real dates. But as in any potential relationship there are some secrets, things that should have been left unsaid, and things not said enough... Will these two survive they're next case?

Favorite passages:
- she was wondering if he was stalking her like a lion would an antelope, she was smart enough to not allow things to move too quickly
- But what he could not stand for, what he would not allow, was decaf coffee. Somebody was going to pay for this one.
- "Careful, careful, Agent Cassano. You wouldn't want to offend the oracle before you receive the services you desire, now would you?'
- "I'm sorry, did I sleep through you being appointed dictator for the day?"
- "Mama knows, Kitty Cat, so put away your claws,"
- "Yeah, you saved her golden angel," Alex agreed. "With a slightly tarnished halo," Mari murmured, "but, still a halo nonetheless," she added with a slight smile at her brother. "Slightly tarnished, my ass! The thing has turned green and is half hanging off his head," Cath snorted.
- "Bella, don't you think you've established enough rules?"
- "Rabbit food doesn't take a hell of a long time to prepare,"
- "Always thinking with the brain in your pants,"

This book was just what I needed. It's the reason we all love reading love stories. Sarah O'Rourke has really shown us they where many caps and they do perfectly.

This book is really different yet absolutely good. It's funny as hell and yet at the same time sweet and hot. I love how these amazing Author's write stories that give us Romance with abit of angst and yet at the same time you don't miss the Family Touch.

This book is about Brenna and her love for a man that is older than her. She realises that their future is in jeopardy and she will stop at nothing in getting rid of all the interference. She goes about it in the most funniest and entertaining way possible and you will definitely be gigglingly from chapter 1 till the end. There are times you wanna slap Matti with your Kindle over his head but he definitely makes up for it.

The angst level is very low so really this book is My kinda Love story. It's story line being so unique had me enthralled and I couldn't put this amazing book down.....

Once you read this book you wouldn't just fall for Brenna and Matteo but also his Adorable Mum and 3 Devil's Spawn Sisters. This family is open hearted and welcomes Bren into their fold so Naturally is really beautiful to witness. It's exactly what Bren needed even if she didn't know it yet. In the end we got to witness a beautiful Love story. Matti and Bren eradicated what was in their way and Bren got an amazing Man with his even more amazing family to go with.

Trust me when I say it's just the perfect Pick Me Up and you will not wanna drop this book for a second.

Enjoy Ladies!!!!!

From start to finish there is an element of anticipation that is impossible to shake, the author never lets the reader off the hook with the intensity of the story, so I would say that this is one that you have to be wary of…it holds nothing back.
There are romance or love stories call them what you will and then there are the ones that are determined to bring something more to the page and with this I would have to say that it is firmly entrenched in the latter category because this author packed this book with everything she possibly could and it was all the better for that attention to detail.
The characters and storyline were perfectly executed, the detail was absolutely on point and the emotions that the story managed to engage… well, I was on the edge of my seat, so I have no idea how Matt and Brenna managed.
These were characters that were super smart, with jobs that were not only dangerous but demanding, they were both FBI profilers so getting a handle on each other you would have thought as all in a day’s work…nope!
Years working together have allowed them to develop and an almost beautifully telepathic connection? They don’t need words; they are so attuned that they can almost feel how they each feel. going on.
But??? I can hear you yelling “What else?”
And believe me there is plenty more that could be said but I’d be cruel to give you any spoilers, this is a best served completely fresh and untainted sort of book, the hint the author gave in the blurb was all it took to pique my interest and I hope the same can be said for you. This is a pair of super characters that you really should spend the afternoon with! You will be glad you did.

Heartbeats by Sarah O'Rourke is a standalone book filled with chemistry, secrets, humor and great sex scenes.

Matteo Cassano and Brenna Langley are both working with the Abducted Children’s Unit of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Brenna not one to fall in love or have time for a relationship. Her job has always meant way to much to her to allow one man to take up her time and to jeopardize all the work she did, moving up through the ranks on her team. As Matteo and Brenna work together they start developing feelings for each other, so when Brenna runs across a piece of health related news that Matteo is trying to keep a secret. She comes up with a undercover operation to help Matteo. When she meets Matteo’s Italian mother, Mama Cassano, Brenna knows she has an ally in helping Matteo get healthier. What will happen when these two headstrong women get together to save Matteo?

Sarah O'Rourke has wrote a hilarious romantic comedy in Heartbeats. If your a fan of Sarah's books then you need to read this new one she has written. If you haven't read one of Sarah's books then let this be your first one you buy of hers, you won't be disappointed. There will be times you will be laughing and other times you will fanning yourself over HOT SEX scenes. It also has Matteo's passionate Italian family filled with opinionated women that will have you laughing at how they treat the only man in the family. As always I look forward to reading the next book that Sarah O'Rourke writes.

I have to admit, I really have no clear expectations for this book. After reading this book, I can say now that I adore this story! It is funny, it has some drama (but not too draining) and the heat level is off the roof! I also love that I see some influences from my all-time favourite show Criminal Minds in this book. Do note that although this book is about 2 FBI profilers, it doesn't touch much (if at all) about the cases that the H/h is working on. The book focused more about their relationship. All in all, I enjoyed reading and I highly recommend this book.

No cliffhanger, it is standalone and you'll love the HEA.

Another hit from Sarah O'Rourke. This was such an entertaining read. I loved the Italian family banter. It so reminds me of growing up in my Italian family. This a great book that combines sweet & sassy with some hard-headedness & humor.

Heartbeats...Wow...5*****

Matteo and Brenna will become you're favorite couple. This book is brilliantly written with enough love, angst, and Italian family member to keep you laughing and remembering if you have Italian family. As always with a Sarah O'RourkeI book there is lots of humor in this book. The family dinners alone remind me of my mother in law who is no longer with us but she ruled the family with an iron eye. The subject matter is pertinent to today's life style and the stressful life's we live. As someone who has supported and tried to help balance someone with a heart problem I know how tough it is to get them to see the big picture. This book is written with honesty and love.
Sometimes tough love is the only way to go and sometimes you have to go behind their back for their own good.

As Brenna realizes how bad things are for Matteo and his inability to make the lifestyle changes he needs for his health she starts making changes for him without him being aware that she is doing it. The problem becomes that she is not taking care of herself and her emotional well being. This has disaster written all over it as Matteo finds out her subterfuge. As you can imagine things do not go well. The strong back story of his love for her and her love for him is how they get their HEA ending. Sarah O'Rourke makes all of her characters believable and likeable to the point that you ate rooting for them. This book is one of her best and you definitely will not be disappointed.
