Glimpse

Rate this book
We contain so much.

You, me, all of us. We’re so full of mysteries, dreams, and potential, that we each carry an entire world inside. And every day, we offer part of it to the people in our lives. A glimpse. We exchange glimpses with one another. Glimpses that are powerful and life-changing.

This book collection is about the glimpses that have shaped my life. It’s written with the belief that many of us share similar feelings, so if you recognize yourself in these pages, this book is for you. It’s for the moments we’ve dared to love, dared to dream, the moments we’ve felt alone, and like we don’t fit in. It’s for the moments of hope. And for the special people in our lives who dare us to offer more than a glimpse.

A combination of poetry, true stories, and essays, Glimpse is the journey of a child who feels unworthy in the world. It’s the true love story of a chance meeting between lonely strangers right before a hurricane is set to hit New York City. It’s one man’s attempt to honor women and his relationship. And it’s an exploration of beauty, and what makes something beautiful.

It’s a glimpse of me, but it might be a glimpse of you too.

As a teacher who works with teenagers struggling to find their way in the world this book is magic. His ability to reach into the mind and hearts of my students and establish a genuine connection is a true gift. His expression of real love and connection between one human being and another transcends the struggles of daily living and provides hope for their future. They see themselves in his introduction to each part and eagerly dig in to each poem. Teaching poetry has often been challenging with At-Risk youth but W.D. Tuck makes it easy. Students enthusiastically absorb each poem and realize that they are not alone in their feelings. I hope that the author would be please to know that in sharing his honest thoughts and feelings he is inspiring young people and helping to transform their views on poetry.

It's been a long time since I read a book of poetry. The author's words jump out at you. I embraced every word in this book. I plan to share it with a few of my very close friends. I will then reread many times. I look forward to more of W.D. Tuck's writing!

I received a copy of this from the author through the Goodreads Giveaway Program. This is the second book written by Mr. Tuck and the first of his I've read.

I don't often read poetry but this was so beautifully composed that I was immediately drawn into the book and finished it in one sitting. Then I returned to several of my favorites and reread each of the essays again. The author/poet has the ability to draw you into his thoughts, his pain and reach down, take your hand, and hold it as you relive times when you're able to connect his past and your own.

There are paragraphs that are so honest:

'I believe hurt like this makes some of us wait for permission to really live our lives. It stops us from exploring who we are and who we want to become. I spent so much energy just containing my pain each day that I would often forget there was life outside of it.'

'...I truly believe our souls are restless, and curious, and when they recognize a chance at magic they can't help but follow that path. No matter how dangerous it might be...'

'...Buried underneath the hurt, underneath the learned self-hate, is a shine so great it can stop people in their tracks. Hiding behind everything you've tried to change about yourself is a power so dynamic it can remind us all. of our humanity...'

My favorite poems include:
Pain Pays Rent
I Don't Want Love
Renew
Glimpses
Heartbeat
You
Freedom
The Good Stuff
A Conversation With the World
Until We Meet Again

Each one shares a part of Mr. Tuck's past and quite likely yours as well. Please share with others. As I will.

An uplifting read in a world filled with negativity, these inspirational writings are a gentle reminder that we are not alone in our everyday struggles with ourselves and life in general. And while I did win this book from author W.D. Tuck via Goodreads Giveaways, I can honestly tell you that it is well worth more than just a "Glimpse."

Loved this and will have to get more copies to share with my loved ones!
This lovely book of poetry is divided into 3 parts. The first part acknowledged the pain we feel, identified with it, but then offered hope and warmed our hearts. The second part spoke of the most romantic love we have ever felt and captured our dreams of how deeply we could be loved. The final section emphasized the value of every one of us from every angle, reinforcing the themes of the rest of the book. A must-have for every bedside table.

I won this is a GOODREADS giveaway.... Oh... My... Goodness! this was so lovely. the collection of poetry (some contained only 2 or 3 lines or paragraphs) took simple wording and spacing and created murals of sensation. I am not a critic or editor: I read for pleasure and personal evolution - this satisfied both.

*I received a copy of this book through a Goodreads Giveaway, thank you! However, it doesn't affect my review.*

My first 5 star rating, and it's well deserved: what a beauty of a book! I save my 5 stars for books that in some way touched my heart; for those books I wish didn't have an ending; for the stories I want to read over and over again (I'm NOT a rereader at all!). This book deserves all 5 stars, without a doubt.

A Glimpse into WD Tuck's life, a tiny sliver of his thoughts and between the lines so much connection with me, with you, with all of us. I loved the introductions of the three books; the ease of his writing: it feels natural. Most of the poems, or stories, are without all the extra uselessness, just the words that are needed, nothing more. It makes them understandable and relatable. The placing of the words is very deliberate and I'm sure I'll find new meanings every time I'll read the book.

It's difficult to explain why Glimpse is a gem, but trust me, just read it and you'll love it.

“Glimpse” which I won through Goodreads Giveaways is a beautifully written exploration of the dreams, passions and potential that not only the writer experiences through life but which touch us all. From a feeling of unworthiness as a child which haunts him even in adulthood to falling in love he takes us on a journey glimpsing the beauty and potential deep inside us all.

Through a collection of poems, true stories and essays we get a glimpse into the feelings and experiences that shaped W.D. Tucker’s life, although I often glimpsed myself. In “I Know Only This” I felt a promise of love and hope while in “Heartbeat” I sensed possibilities and determination not to give up when your heart’s been battered and abused. In a flowing lyrical style W.D. Tucker writes with emotion and sensitivity, sharing his insights and vulnerability. I love this book and will read and re-read it, sharing its words with others who need encouragement, and hope.

Goodreads Giveaway Book – Glimpse is a very personal look at the range of emotions we can feel as human beings. In becoming vulnerable enough to allow others to see our hopes & dreams, fear & pain, joy & love, we end up glimpsing not only our own humanity but also that of everyone else in the world, especially that of those closest to us. What a brave way to reach out and touch others and find hope & beauty in the process!

**i got this book from the Poet in return of an honest review, however, my review is entirely my own and is not affected by anything else**
very touching, very simple. i am not very akin to poetry, but this was rather a good easy flow. it is very personal and moved in a chronological order as to how love and life evolved for the poet. you can easily find that you yourself belong there, where he once was. love, life, a hard to get love, a relationship, the ups and downs and everything else. it was rather short, easily done in one sitting, i just glimpsed at it whenever i needed feels. i enjoyed it, i hope you do too
