I didn't realize how much I've forgotten of my childhood fairytales until I started reading this collection of them. I was surprised to notice how similar some of Grimms's and Andersen's stories were compared to one another, like Tom Thumb and Thumbelina (they were both tiny, but the stories were different); and The blue light and The tinder-box. When I was reading The blue light I seriously thought I would come across the wonderful big-eyed dogs that played a big part in the story, but they never showed up. As for the fairytales, I felt that some of the more obscure tales could have been left out, since they were a bit ordinary, dull and even bizarre compared to the more famous ones. Otherwise they were fun to read, dark parts and all.
