I love the Vampire for Hire books by JR Rain and I love Samantha Moon- the full books. The short stories are good but don’t seem to have a lot of meat in them, not the gripping storyline the full books do. I suppose that is because they stand alone and don’t play an integral part of the total Sam Moon storyline that carries on through the full books. Yes, that’s a good thing but if you’re reading these short stories, it leaves you feeling a little disappointed- at least that’s my feeling. Those full books are so good, it’s hard to read about one of my favorite characters when it falls flat.
Vampire Requiem has Sam’s inner demon fighting to come forth while Sam continues to push against the black hearted she devil. I think this will be a struggle we see for a while to come, a tug of war where this evil is able to sneak out every once in a while, much to Sam’s chagrin. Sam is called to help a friend in need in this little story, hoping to get to her in time. When she does get there, it’s a very creative way she finds to deal with the attacker. I wouldn’t want to say anymore to give anything away, but Sam just has a way of making you love her, no matter what she does. Or actually, it’s Rain who works his magic in making us love Sam so much we can’t get enough of her.
No, this isn’t the best Vampire for Hire book, but since it is Samantha Moon, and JR Rain of course, I’ll read every book in the series, including these short stories.
