Rate this book
This book will help you understand the redemptive story of the New Testament through six major Expectations, Messiah, Pentecost, Teachings and Yet-to-come, with the first letter of each heading making up the word EMPTY. The acronym EMPTY will enable you to grasp the storyline of the New Testament, and place key people, events, and the New Testament letters in their correct time period. The author takes you through each redemptive period, explaining how Jesus marks the fulfillment of God’s promises of old, and how the exalted Jesus continues his mission through his disciples empowered by the Holy Spirit. The acronym for the entire Bible is CASKET EMPTY. It points to the empty tomb of Jesus as the beginning of God’s new creation, the assurance that death has been defeated, and the guarantee of our resurrection yet to come. Through the acronym CASKET EMPTY you will have a framework for remembering the entire sweep of the Bible with the person and work of Christ at the center. This book is designed to be read along with the New Testament Casket Empty Timeline available at www.casketempty.com.

Surprisingly the NT study guide was more clunky to get through than the OT one. Author provides tons of the surrounding background context of the New Testament and sets the stage well to read the story in its context. Much of it was new and eye-opening to me.

I did appreciate the continuation of the CASKET EMPTY acronym, making it easy to recall the grander narrative of Scripture.

Dense but overall would recommend!

This is the New Testament volume of the CASKET EMPTY series. I heard David Palmer present his New Testament material at a church retreat and he was excellent. This book is not an easy read and requires commitment to get through it, but it is richly rewarding in that it gives a wonderful overview of the New Testament. Palmer breaks the New Testament into five section: Exile (period after Old Testament is over but before the birth of Christ), Messiah (the four Gospels), Pentecost (Acts), Teaching (the Epistles), and Yet to come (Revelation). With Exile, the author covers historical developments that contextualize the coming of Jesus. In the other four sections, Palmer covers the Biblical books within each category. Even within the Teaching section, each Epistle is summarized. This book is really great in giving one a broad summary of the Bible’s message to us, and so this really helps one to discern the meaning of specific passages. All too often, Bible verses or passages are taken out of their context and twisted to fit what we want it to mean. The CASKET EMPTY series sets the overall narrative and message of the Bible and the individual books. This is something that every Christian should take the time to read and study.

Really enjoyed the historical context Palmer provides for the books of the New Testament - but feel like the timeline supplement is unnecessary. Traditional in-text timelines/maps are more than sufficient.

The chapters on Revelation alone made this textbook a great read—my heart is stirred for the coming glory of Christ.

Good study guide that provides good historical context especially to the time in between Malachi and Jesus
