All That Glitters introduces us to June’s story, which I was really excited about. I really liked June in the first novelette, Gilded Cage, and I like her even more now that we know the girl has got some secrets! Thankfully we also get more of JD and Maisie in the story, and even a little bit of their father, who continues to infuriate.

June has one of my favorite lines toward the end of the book, I won’ say it, but it’s about gold and you’re going to love it. She’s such a strong character and you can’t help but admire her. Despite everything, she holds her own, making JD and the reader love her all the more. June is a strong girl who carries big secrets, and she still manages to let people into her life and find her own happiness, making her incredibly relatable.

I loved seeing this new side to JD. It really gives us a better picture of him and his life that is only touched on in Gilded Cage. We also see Maisie come into her own a bit more and I love it.

This was a brilliant follow up to the first novelette and will leave you wanting more (and fast!) This is a series that’s so easy to get caught up in. You race through the pages to see what happens and want to yell at the author for more when you reach the end all too soon. Ms. Ficklin takes the bright shininess of the prohibition era and brings out the dark side hidden among the glitter, hitting you so hard and fascinating you so completely that when you close the book, you have a hard time adjusting to using modern slang and taking your sparkly headpiece off. It’s not fair and it’s kind of perfect! I highly recommend getting wrapped up in this series…it’s gold.

One of my favorite lines in this is the perfect way to sum up this short little Novelette - "Sounds like a trunk full of bullshit. Whatever your daddy might think, I'm no gold-digger, baby, I am the Gold". June is a spunky character trying to rise above a very sorrid past and this book gives you all the great dirt behind June West and her budding romance with the dashing JD. I am loving the little snips we are getting to the point where it gonna be and all shut down day when i get the book.

All That Glitters is book two, coming right after Gilded Cage. And just like the first one, I was blown away. Sherry Ficklin has a way with writing and her style is flawless. This story is of June, the not so average flapper girl. She has her life in the palm of her hand, that is until her boyfriend asks her to marry him and all those little-buried secrets come up. The dialogue and banter between the characters kept me amused and smiling. Needless to say, Sherry gets five stars from me!

WOW, I am always in shock and awe with this author's style of writing and this story is no different. I loved the layout of the story-line with its hidden secrets and realizations of dreams being shattered and crushed. The feeling of being in a cage that you can't seem to get out of, no matter how hard you try. I loved June's story and her struggles throughout her life. I felt as if I was living the story with June. She is an awesome character and I enjoyed every minute of her story. These books make me wish I was from the 1920's time era and could be part of the fun, excitement and glamour. This is a phenomenal read and I highly recommend it for all to enjoy too. This is also a standalone so you don't need to read book one to know and enjoy book two, however I do recommend book one too.

The author provided me with a digital ARC copy of the book for review purposes only. No remuneration was exchanged.

If you thought that you loved June in book 1 (The Gilded Cage), you will be in awe of how much more you really love her in this! She gets her moment to shine and boy does she shine so bright!! I love all of the books that author Sherry Ficklin has written, but this one (and series) is so much fun!! I can't wait for the next one to come along (hint, hint)!

We do get to see some of Maise, JD and the other characters from book 1 in this novella as well. The author is really doing an amazing job of setting us up for the full length novel and I for one can't wait!! I love the author's style of writing, her characters and all of the fun that she brings to the reader!

If you haven't read anything by this author, you are really missing out! Grab this one and her others and get started now!! She is a master storyteller, no matter what genre she is writing in! Sit back and enter the #RoaringTwenties - it will be an era that you will be sad you missed out on in real life!!

This book packs a punch with a character who grabs attention and then some.

June is a flipper, and she loves her life. When her boyfriend asks her to marry him, everything is perfect. At least, on the surface. The engagement is all that she could dream for, but with it, secrets will come to light. . .and that could ruin everything.

I did read the first book in this series and after reading this one, am totally blown away. June is simply an amazing character. She spunky, punky, clever, elegant, clever, tough and so much more rolled all into one tiny frame. Her life isn't perfect, but she slides in and heads against all obstacles with grace and pride. It's impossible not to cheer for her.

The 1920s-1930s come to life in these pages. There are small details which bring the world to life, and even the dialogue reflects the era seamlessly. Especially impressive is the reflection of social attitudes during this time frame. The author hits home by taking very modern day questions (race, social classes) and slams them into this historic past. It catches the attention and leaves one thinking.

This appears to be the beginnings of a great series. Massie (the character from the first novella in the series) and June are both personalities to watch out for, and it will be a treat to see what the next novella holds in store.

This is the second novella in the Canary Club series but can most certainly be read as a stand alone. It's a wonderful 39-page read.

This particular novella follows June West who we met briefly in Gilded Cage Just as before we are placed in the prohibition era, with flappers, prejudice, and glamorous clubs. As a reader, I was immersed into this world by way of how the atmosphere was set up by Ficklin.

Now, since I've already read the first one in the series and found myself in want of more of Masie Schultz, I was wondering how this one would compare. Well! June is now my favorite, now that I know more about her, now that I've seen her in struggles and hardship I have come to adore her. In this book, some of her secrets and her secretive past comes to the surface and threatens her life as she knows it as well as a future she was hoping for. These hardships showcase and prove that June is a strong, clever and passionate young woman.

JD Schultz plays a big part to this, too, and since he is the counterpart to June we are allowed glimpses into his character and his feelings in regard to June. We know him as a playboy, but we get to see a deeper side to him in this novella and how he views things - not just something his father makes him or wants him to believe.

I really enjoyed this book! One of my favorite quotes?

"I'm no gold digger, baby. I'm the gold!"

Another aspect I thoroughly enjoyed was the display of friendship between June and Masie. It's a pretty solid friendship.

So treat yourself on Valentine's Day, that's when this wonderful read becomes available.

"A dame with brains, moxie, and killer curves, June West isn't your average flapper."
ALL THAT GLITTERS is the second novelette in the Canary Club series. This time we are introduced to June, JDs gal and Maisie's friend.
I've been dying to know more about June since I first read about her in Maisie's story (GILDED CAGE). She's confident, sassy, and everything I've imagined the best flappers to be. But June has secret's too. And one of those secrets may just cause her to lose the love--and the life--she was on the verge of finally realizing.
ALL THAT GLITTERS is just as fun and flashy as the previous book. I just loved June's story, I had never even imagined the depth of this character. She is well-developed and her back story is beautiful. I love her even more than I thought I did. The details are rich, vibrant and Sherry Ficklin has once again brought the 20's to life. I am biting my nails & anxiously waiting for the next book in this series.

Sherry Ficklin is an unbelievable period fiction writer. Her dialogue is spot-on, and her details of clothing and brands are fantastic. The only possible complaint is that it is over too soon. I can't wait for a full-length novel.

I always enjoy historical fiction that incorporates real historical figures and brings them to life. Dutch Shultz is every bit as stony as history relates. All of Sherry's characters are well-developed even for a novella. The girls in this series are true flappers, and they've got the moxy to stand shoulder to shoulder with the likes of Dutch and his gang.

Ready for more!

All That Glitters by Sherry Ficklin was an enjoyable listen right after I had 3 surgeries on my elbow to repair nerve damage, among other things. I just wanted to relax and forget about my pain and this short story prequel to the upcoming Canary Club series didn't disappoint.

All that Glitters features June West who we were introduced to in The Gilded Cage, which is previous prequel to the Canary Club that was released several months ago. June is an extremely smart flapper dancer who just wants to improve her way of life for herself and her mother. She does so by reinventing herself, not only by changing her name but her "origin" story as well. Just when she thinks she's reached the top of the social ladder with all the fame and spotlight that comes with it (she's currently dating the son of the most powerful gangster in New York and he's talking about making their arrangement more permanent), the truth is revealed about her past before she has a chance to come clean about her past with her soon to be fiancé. The rest of the story is June feeling a bit like Scarlet O'Hara at the end of Gone With Wind, with promises that tomorrow will be another day with a chance to prove her worthiness to the mob boss and his son.

Meghan Kelly was as great as ever narrating this short story. What I love about Meghan is her easy laid back narrations that let a listener get immersed in the story. I never get the feeling that I'm being read to, but rather I'm there listening to an actual conversation between two people.

In summary, I'm extremely anxious for the Canary Club to be released. I'm ready for the wait to be over so I can see what happens to Daisy (from Gilded Cage) and June!

June, a prohibition era flapper, is involved with Dutch Schultz's son, but the crime empire is crumbling as is the web of deceit she has used to construct her identity. A fun story set in an era underutilized by historic romance writers. This series really grew on me during this story.

The hero, JD, in this book is brother to Masie, heroine of book 1. Read in series order.

I liked this book better than the first one so I give it a 3.5. I got a bit frustrated with Jane though. I think she compromised too much...though I guess it really has to do with the times it is set in. I think others would enjoy this quick and easy read

An excellent and interesting read!

I loved getting into June's head - seeing from her perspective, learning all the truths she had hidden from everybody including the love of her life. I wondered how JD will react when the cat is out of the bag?

Favourite quote: "I'm no gold-digger, baby. I'm the gold."

Full of lies, criminal activity, the roaring twenties!, secrets, romance and heartbreak.

Perfect for readers of historical romance.

This is June’s story which is very touching and not the gold digger that the blur makes her sound. She does have a very big secret that could not only destroy her life but the love that she has with the man she loves. Dutch is still the hateful man he has always been and if he finds out what she is hiding it might be bye bye for his son if Dutch gets to him first.

Ms. Kelly does an outstanding job with the narration in this story. She gives you a smooth clean and clear audio that pulls you in as she painting a picture you have no trouble picturing the hurt, anger and sorrow. I really enjoyed her character voices, you have no trouble knowing who is talking and what they are feeling. The confusing and excitement along with the anger comes through very clear. Her tones are even, there was no background noise or any places where the volume changed it one steady listen. Her male voices are just as good as her female ones. I had no trouble picturing and feeling June’s anger, hurt, sorrow as all she wants is being taken away along with the excitement as they play out and the disappointment when they don’t always turn out as June wants.

I was hoping to learn more about Masie and her mother but you only see her for a short time and nothing about the mother she so loves. Masie’s brother JD has been and still is a sweet heart but that could change with the flick of a tongue giving away things that are hidden. June’s whole life is built on lies and when the truth comes out it will change her life forever. Does she tell or keep things to herself?

I thought the author would go one way but she took the story down a different route which was very entertaining. I am disappointed I thought this book would pick up where the last one left off but we are still hanging on what happens to Masie and her love. I really felt sorry for June’s family even though she learned this practice from a very young age it still could not have been easy for them. If I say anymore it will give the story away. It was a good read/listen it was nice to get to know June and JD better but again you are left with tons of question and no answers. Maybe the author will bring it all in focus giving us the whole story and an ending that has closure. I was disappointed but keeping an open mind until I see where the next book takes us.
