No. No. No.

Okay listen, I like psychic books as much as the next person but this book was just, you guessed it, no.

It's about a woman who can see when people will die if she touches them and if they are close to dying. She can also see ghosts.
Okay, so far you are like,
"What's the problem Snow, this sounds cool?"
Wait! I'm not done.

Jemma is basically recruited by a Psychic CIA and she is forced to relive horrific images of people being murdered by a bossy pants detective. Why?

BECAUSE HE SAYS SO!

In hope that it would help them save some lives. When in honesty her suffering was useless and had no effect what so ever to her strengths and capabilities. It was just mental torture with the hope that the main character would seem strong. Instead, she complained. Complained about everything. I mean being tortured does suck, I'll admit, but you know what sucks more? Me having to read for pages and pages how much you are suffering. I get it. It's bad.

Snow is already reading that you are being tortured and the suffering you are going through is emphasized through the entire book you don't have to tell Snow again how bad it really is, Snow gets it. It's bad.

Metaphor:
It was like watching one of those plays where all the actors are trying too hard. The romance scene is screaming at you to feel the romance. The depressing scenes are yelling at you to cry.

Honestly, it was over dramatic and just confusing. I'm still not sure if it had a sad ending or a happy ending.

I am changing it up. I am not giving reasons why I liked it or did not like it. I'm a rebel now.

Absolutely fantastic read with brilliant characters. I loved Jemmas character.
This had me gripped from start to finish. Read in just a few hours. Can't wait for more. 5*. Highly recommended. Netgalley and weaponry co-op.

Jemma can touch someone's skin and see a vision of their death. Because of this for the last ten years she's lived a mundane life and does everything she can to avoid touching people. While walking home, she accidentally sees a vision of a woman getting murdered and tries and fails to warn the woman. Thinking she should try and put the murderer behind bars, Jemma reaches out to the police station about her visions and ends up part of a supernatural police force.

I really enjoyed the idea of this book, but The Soul Catcher just fell a bit flat for me? I honestly think this book would have benefited immensely from more substance. The love interests wouldn't have seemed too rushed and the plot would have been able to be better explained. I would really enjoy to see a full length novel with this plot, but less of the passing out and throwing up that the heroine does.

I'm assuming with that ending that more will come? The ending was left decently open for more to come.

I give it about 2.5 stars because it was interesting enough for a novella, but really would have benefitted immensely with a full length book.

An enjoyable read. Being a fan of supernatural crime stories, and kick-ass female protagonists, I loved the premise of this novel.
The reader is plunged straight into Jemma's world, sharing her confusion and fear as events unfold.
Scenes of torture and carnage are described in gruesome, but not gratuitous detail. The villains were terrifyingly believable.
While I empathised with the main character, seeing the horrors that that she is forced to witness, I felt I would have liked to have had more backstory to know her better. I like Jemma is vulnerable and upset through many of the scenes, but does harden and begin to embrace her role as the story progresses.
While the chemistry between Jemma and her love interest felt exciting and believable, it did seem progress quite rapidly.
I want to read more of her exploits, and see how she adapts to her new role. Also it would be lovely to read more about the rest of the supernatural team, and her relationships with them.

I just finished the last part of a trilogy and needed something else to read immediately and the cover of The Soul Catcher drew me straight in. I started reading and just kept on flipping the pages until I finished it earlier this evening. It's a well told tale, with a lot of suspense and intrigue. Jemma tries so hard to be normal and to keep herself and others out of the way of harm, but in the end she is forced to do things against her will and I found these parts difficult to read. They were very well written don't get me wrong but she is such a kind soul, it made me feel cross and helpless as a reader too. I found the parts about the children being harmed to be disturbing and very scary. I'll be interested to read more in this series and see where the author takes it.

A gripping start to the upcoming series!

#teamripper! I loved this storyline! if you ever watched and liked the Syfy series "Haven", you will love this. There was a lot of mystery in the supporting characters that I can't wait to see unfold through this series. I was on the edge of my seat, biting my nails during some scenes. And I love the reality brought to the reader for Jemma's emotions. Ripper is a highly lovable character as well, even though he's shrouded in mystery. I can't wait to see Jemma's journey unfold in this series!

Wow, what can I say, I absolutely loved this book and read it in a day.
The lead character is a kick ass female who has visions and can see ghosts, she gets reluctantly roped into helping find a sick murderer by another bunch of supernaturals with different and interesting abilities, I can't wait to read more about the various characters and what their background stories are, hopefully more than just one sequel is on the horizon.
Well written, easy to read and leaves you wanting more, brilliant!
If you love Keri Arthur then this is definitely a novel for you.

I loved the premise of The Soul Catcher and found it an enjoyable read. There was an interesting selection of characters, though I would have preferred a little more depth. While this book doesn't end on a cliffhanger, there were several questions raised that I felt should have been answered, or stronger clues given, in this book. I think it would have helped me understand a certain character's motivations, rather than him coming across as nasty for the sake of it. Overall though, it was an interesting read.

....

The beginning of the story drew me in. I like Jemma. She was very real. Then the other characters were introduced and the book went downhill for me from there. I didn't like any of the other characters. I won't be continuing if this turns out to be a series.

This is an intriguing supernatural horror story. I really enjoyed it.

Jemma is a wonderful character. I liked her a lot. She pretends that she is a normal woman, but she is not. She can see ghosts and interact with them. When a stranger bumps into her, triggering her psychic gift, she warns the woman of danger. Unfortunately, the woman doesn't take any notice and is found dead. Unable to live with herself after the event, she goes to the police to report her vision. What she didn't expect was to be thrown into an emotional nightmare.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author with no expectation of a positive review; this is my honest opinion. I started to read this book and was quickly hooked. Jemma's vision of the woman's murder is shocking and incredibly chilling. I found myself sitting on the edge of my seat as the story unfolded. I was intrigued with the supernatural task force that works with the police and liked meeting some of the team members, such as Ripper and Aidan, who each have special gifts of their own. However, I am not overly fond of Detective Mitchell, the team leader. He is incredibly driven and, although I am not sure what his problem is, comes across as a sadistic b*stard and not an entirely likable person. He puts Jemma through hell in an effort to find the serial killer and basically kidnaps her and holds her prisoner until she complies with his demands. This is not the best way to recruit members in my opinion.

The story takes the reader on a journey of horror as the team gets ever closer to the serial killer. He's a soul eating demon and is growing in strength with every soul he eats. However, there is also a touch of romance between Jemma and Ripper. There are no scenes of a sexual nature (apart from kissing) between them though, as there never seems to be enough time for anything more. I found myself on a roller coaster of emotions throughout this book, from disgust at Detective Mitchell's behaviour to sadness at the brutal murders of the innocents by the killer. There's a huge fight scene between the team and the demon, and a surprising twist I didn't see coming towards the end. Although the book doesn't end in a cliffhanger, the author has written it in such a way that it is obvious there will be another book to follow.

Rowanne Carberry has written an intriguing supernatural horror story. This is her debut novel. I love her fast paced writing style, which kept me turning the pages. Her descriptive prose brought the story to grizzly life and it flowed wonderfully from start to finish. My only complaint is that I felt that some of the characters needed a little more development, though this could be easily rectified as the series progresses. I would definitely consider reading more of her books in the future.

Due to scenes of graphic violence and gore and some profane language, I do not recommend this book to younger readers or persons of a nervous disposition. However, I highly recommend this book if you love supernatural or paranormal horror/urban fantasy genres. - Lynn Worton

Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.

This book wasn't bad but it wasn't great either, in my personal opinion. The story was interesting (with the whole murder and investigation and psychic aspect to it) but depending on the scene it either felt rushed or too slow. Some things I felt like could've been resolved faster and other things just happened to fast. Like for example the love interest although it was sweet it felt very insta-love-ish. There was no build there. Which I wish there had been because he's so very sweet and there could've been a very good build.
I also wish there would've been more background on him and a lot of the other side characters because I feel like that would've made me be able to connect with the characters more and want to see their individual stories play out. But without background on the characters it's just a lot of random people running around trying to catch a killer and you wouldn't really feel bad one way or another if something happened to them. I mean you might feel a twinge but not really. And when I say I wish there was more background on the characters I don't just mean the nice ones I'm talking about the characters that are complete a-holes too because I've found that if you're given their background story no matter how bad they are of it's tragic enough you can't help but sympathize and then BOOM connection right there and you care about the character.
Gemma, the main character, (after much thought) I can say wasn't my favorite. She's just all over the place with her emotions. She doesn't necessarily know how to stand up for herself. She tries but she doesn't exactly succeed. And the other characters (partly because there's no backstory on them) are a bit annoying at times because they don't help each other out and they're supposed to be a team so yeah I didn't like that. But again if there had been backstory in them then you might have been able to sympathize with them and understand why they never got involved in anything that didn't concern them.
The book is very short it was under 2000 location on my Kindle so I guess there wasn't a lot of space to put all that backstory in there and still keep the plot going if the author wanted a smaller book but I just think it could've made the book better.
Other than that I feel like the author is doing a good job plot wise but I think if you're not able to connect with the characters in a book it's just going to be another book that you've read not necessarily a great book, which I think is what all authors aspire too :) Everythig being said however I do commend the authors for getting the book written because I saw this was her debut novel and I know how hard it is to write a book so, "YAY!," for her!

Disclaimer: I was given "The Soul Catcher" for free through Netgalley in exchange for an honest, unbiased review. Possible spoilers ahead!

I'd like to start off by saying this was originally a DNF for me. I tried to read this ARC, I don't know, maybe a year ago? and I just couldn't get into it. Recently, I was between books, so I decided to give The Soul Catcher another go!

In the end, I'm glad I picked it up again. The story has good bones, you know? It was sometimes hard to follow and other times I simply wanted to punch the main character in the face, but, you know, it was a fun & short read, so I might pick up the sequel.

I had mixed feelings about this supernatural thriller. On the one hand, it's definitely an imaginative story, and the quality of the writing is such that you get a full appreciation of the hardship and agony that the protagonist goes through. However, while I certainly hated the villains, I couldn't properly engage with the more sympathetic characters enough to really care about what happened to them, and I would have liked more explanation of the existence of supernaturals in this story's universe - the sudden popping up of various people with new powers sometimes felt a bit random.

This book was so disappointing. It felt very rushed, there was no time or care given to character development or the plot or the relationships. It felt like it was written very quickly in order to finish it but it wasn't finished by any means.

I think if the author used this as a skeleton, it could be fleshed out into a good, solid book.

Uncaged Book Reviews:

I liked the beginning of this, and I think that the storyline has a lot of potential, but I would like a lot more information. Because I’m a hard core reader of this genre, I was able to latch on, but it would have been a better book if it hadn’t felt so rushed. There are just too many unanswered questions left over.
