The Warrior Mage

Rate this book
16 y/o Cage is the second son of the King and Queen Geddon, a kingdom which recently lost a decades long war against the far more numerous kingdom of Rolstan. Geddon is broken apart and distributed amongst various Rolstanian nobles with only a small part of it remaining in Cage's brothers hands who assumed the title of Duke. During this war all of Geddians powerful warrior mages fell, men and women as capable with the sword as they are with using magic. The last of these warrior mages is young Cage who as now being a Rolstanian must adapt to the culture of his conquerors and murderers of his parents despite his attitude towards them. Meanwhile Rolstan is gearing up for a far bigger fight and needs all of their fighting men to face the might of the Zetian Empire and that includes Cage. Join Cage as he proves the worth of Geddon warrior mages and find his place in this new world.

I know a bunch of you have been asking exactly you the heck I am. First off, my name is Whiskey Flowers, I was active duty army and now I am a proud member of the New Mexico National Guard. In my day job, I am a corrections officer, I watch the best and brightest Albuquerque has to offer and make little money doing it. I am originally from Oakland, California, home of dumbasses and knuckleheads everywhere where I attempted to become their leader until the army put me on a different path. As many of you have pointed out, I never got my high school diploma, I am a GED student but I make it look good. If any of you are ever in New Mexico and want a drinking partner, I got you.

wow interesting and it ended - very well!! Recommend reading

Wow very interesting and a good read! Whiskey Flowers writing has definitely improved! No great errors to me in this book some small words. As always dialogue and storyline is good. This is one of the best stand alone books in Whiskey Flowers large writings (I didn’t say series which would be difficult to decide). I am not going to give away the ending but I really found it enjoyable and it stayed true to the characters and characteristics of those created.
You could complain about a rushed ending but it really flowed right into it and wasn’t much that needed to said beyond what was in the story. Just really impressive ending and story. If you enjoy some of Whiskey Flowers books this one I recommend.

Mage Steel

Cage and William are the last of the royal family of Geddon which lost the war with Rolstan. His older brother is now a duke in the much reduced Duchy of Geddon in Rolstan and Cage is the Captain of his guard. Though young, Cage is huge, a master swordsman, and a powerful mage. The brothers never forget their heritage and the deaths of their parents in the war. I like how the story deals with the amalgamation of the defeated country and cultural clashes. The brothers must navigate the politics and treachery of court while doing the best for their people. I like Cage's honor and strength.

Despite the multitude of grammatical, syntactical and formatting errors this is an excellent story with a brilliant ending which caught me completely by surprise.
Whiskey is a wonderfully imaginative storyteller whose books are let down by poor proof reading and editing. As far as I am concerned this is his best - so far - in which the errors are sufficiently outweighed by the quality of the story that they are almost unnoticeable.

Good diversion.

This book is like another of Whiskey Flower's books. Not for the intellectual, but a quick and entertaining read. Both of the books I've read seem to be scanned in from other resource material and never proof read or spell checked. Three stars may be a little high, but the diversion value kicks it up a notch.

Whiskey (thank you for your service, but…)
you need an editor and good proof reader: their-there-they’re, dangling participles, incorrect tense, etc. , basic 10th grade English stuff. Hitting one of those is like a car crash for a reader. I read 3 of your books: can’t take another.

Interested all over again

This book may have some grammar, vocabulary, and spelling errors but it is full of action, drama, adventure, mystery, and suspense that more than make up for any mistakes.

Interesting

I don't like the fact that such a powerful people was killed and subdued including the main character parents- and for him to marry that awful princess - story is kinda disappointing

The warrior mage

This was a fun plot with very lively characters that made you wanna continue reading the book to the end. It’s a very good standalone book or could be made into one more book.

Tables are meant to be turned

Sword fights, hand to hand fights, romance, plots among nobles and royalty and magic all rolled into one story. I almost forgot to mention mage steel and gold.

Good with caveat

I liked the story. I hated the Elena character. The ending, in great part to her, fell flat. The hero and the reader deserved better. I almost rated it 3 star because of this issue, but the storytelling was enjoyable. Could do with some better editing, though.

Great action

Did not think that the ending would be what it ended up being. His apparent lack of interest throws you off his motives.

great

Done it again Whiskey, cracking story.
Remember his work is not a literary work but a storyteller sitting near the fire in a tavern spinning pacey, gripping yarns.

Great book

It is well written and I do not want to spoil the ending! But it should come with a PG rating!

Book needs help

Grammar, spelling, phrasing and just about everything needs a work over. The story was great but the continual mental corrections and changes was enormously frustrating

Needs serious editing

Interesting story but it needs some serious editing and review. The ending was well done though. Overall the story is good but the obvious mistakes were a headache.

Good ideas. Poor writing

I realize when your a new author you make mistakes but this is so badly written that it seems like English was not the authors primary language. There were missing words, poor spelling and grammar errors galore. All the characters were very hard headed and undeveloped. The main character was a very large jock with a superiority complex. Nothing likable about him. Got about half way through the book and finally gave up.

Loved the story!

This story was very fun to read. The main character, Cage is a bit unrealistic but I found it refreshing he didn't take gruff from anyone. Overlook all the typos and grammatical errors and you will be glad giving this story a chance.

Plausible storyline, poor editing

Very poor job editing! The storyline was interesting and had an unexpected ending, which smoothed over the sexism throughout the story. If the editing had been better, I would have rated it higher

Bad editing

I enjoyed this book. I was very happy that it was contained complete in one book. That was a pleasant surprise. However it was very much lacking in the editing department and the grammar was really bad, which made it hard to follow smoothly.

Good story, bad grammar

A very good story, with a very enjoyable ending.
Unfortunately, it is in desperate need of editing. A bit of effort would turn this into a solid five star story.

Needs some serious editing

The plot was great, the story was really good but there were numerous editing mistakes, mostly grammatical. Nice book otherwise.

Excellent read.

Kept me enthralled all the way through, with just the right amount of mystery as to what was going happen next. The ending was quite unexpected

Enjoyable tale, brought down by poor execution

A good, unsophisticated basic plot, with a twist to remind politicians that warriors have brains too.

Unfortunately, the poor grammar, sentence structure, even word choice in some places, detracts from the whole.

Some usages are so odd as to make the reader wonder if the author is perhaps not a native speaker of English. Later parts of the book do improve slightly, but the whole text needs attention from a professional editor.

All that aside, I did enjoy it, and would read a second in the series.
