Will you fly with me?

Dragon met half dragon.
Girl met boy.
Cruel fate and the cruelest family kept them apart.
Nowadays dragon/demon Ian has only one picture left from his long lost love for Fiona.
But Fiona is still around and very much unmated.

While Ian was going back and forth in the Hell realm fighting his sorrow with booze and bloody battles, Fiona was helping unprivileged, tormented, bullied supernatural females who cannot ask for help from weak humans.

Finn has just discovered Fiona outside the border of his territory and he wants to introduce himself and to see if she is any danger for his wolves. And Ian is the only friend who apparently knows her.

Surprise!

What I enjoyed from the book:
1.Finn and Ian’s dialogues who are trying to find out who is the biggest Alpha without tearing each other apart.
2. Arya who has become a very important female character and she is present in almost every book.
3. The final battle and the revengeful but fair closure for the half demon family of Bo Broussard.
4. Ophelia and wolf shifter Gray’s beginning of their love story. I find stories with younger men, older women fascinating. And Ophelia is 200, while Gray is 30 and extremely persistent. Spot on!
5. True love conquers anything.

True PNR Romance Perfection!!!!

Saved By Darkness goes straight to my top 3 all-time-favorites PNR!!! After Taste of Darkness I thought Katie Reus couldn’t possibly give me anything better since it was paranormal perfection in writing, but this book proves me wrong, because it sits right there alongside it, on the top of the pyramid!

The present of the story starts when a photo of Fiona is revealed to Ian, in a quest for information on the female dragon. This single act opened up old wounds, but also the beginning of this second chance tale…

He couldn’t even convince himself that he’d buried memories of her because it was a lie. He thought of her every damn day. The woman lived inside him, was his mate. It didn’t matter that they’d never crossed that final line and mated. That he’d never marked her—that she was mated to another. Another female would never do for him.

Ian and Fiona met many years – fifty two, to be exact – prior to the present events of the Darkness series, and their attraction was instantaneous. A true case of love at first sight.

From very different backgrounds, but with the same lonely existence, their secret romance develops at the speed of light and they make plans of mating and sharing an eternity together.

But life is a bitch, and in this case it takes form in a despicable family, that resorts to any means to separate them, and to their heartbreak, successfully.

And even after all these years one thing is certainty that they couldn’t destroy: their love.

Half dragon shifter, half demon. The only male she’d ever loved. Still loved. He was a few feet behind Finn, his expression fierce and determined as he made his way to her.

Of course that things aren’t easily solved upon this reunion, as endless questions, fifty two years of them, need answers.

Why hadn’t she come to him then? Maybe she’d still been trying to keep him safe all these years. Joy and rage pumped through him in equal measures. She wasn’t mated and they’d lost so many damn years.

These answers were important to Ian, but not more important than the ecstasy he felt to know that Fiona wasn’t mated, completely free for the taking. Oh, and he sure intended to take, because this time, she wasn’t getting away. He would make her his…

He’d been alone when they’d met, wandering with no purpose. Still felt like he was, some days. Because without Fiona in his life, it was as if he was missing a vital part of who he was.

… Which she already was. Or better yet, never stopped being. Not even once, in those 52 years, did she love him any less.

And he made her think of her homeland. Made her think of home, period. Because at one time, he’d been her home.

She’d never given her family a reason to come after her, had never shown interest in a male for that very reason.
Well, because her heart already did—and always would—belong to Ian.

A series of events from the equally enrapturing sub-plot take place, which end up involving them all, as well as most of the main characters from the previous books of the series, makes them put their confrontation and reunion on the back burner, but not truly, because feelings that intense can’t be controlled. With them working together it was evident that their chemistry would blow up and reveal itself. Specially given Ian’s OTT alpha attitude, where Fiona was involved! LOL

“I’m not letting you go, Fiona,” he murmured before brushing his lips over hers. She tasted like heaven. And his.
Only his.
“I’m not going anywhere.”

She had no chance of refusal. Not that she wanted to, because of that she had no doubt, Ian was hers, as much as she was his. She was made to leave him once, she was never doing it again.

When she’d left him, it had been like cutting off a limb, leaving part of herself behind. And she had, essentially. Because Ian was a part of her, embedded in her skin, her soul.

I adored this book so very much, and one of the main reasons for that was the love and loyalty of this couple. Staying faithful and true to each other, even when they had lost hope, during that long separation really warmed my heart and made, in my opinion, their love unquestionable. This right here is the reason for which Romance is my preferred genre, for EPIC love stories, like Ian and Fiona’s. The other reason for my love for this book was that Ian was the personification of everything I want in my literally hero: strong, loving, caring, loyal and devoted to his heroine to the max, no matter the circumstances. And to take it up a notch he was a true alpha, which made his loving side that more dreamy…

He knew himself well enough that once she was gone he wouldn’t last regardless. His heart would simply stop beating without her.

There would never be anyone else. Not if he lived a thousand lifetimes.

She was his life, his everything.

Add to that the dirty talking, and who could resist?! Their lovemaking scenes were fantastically well written, and their build up, given their insane chemistry, and their dragon and demon sides, was just as rewarding! They were HOT in every way possible! Hello… Dragons!!!! ;)

“Want to feel you come around my cock,” he whispered darkly. “Want to hear you say you’re mine.” There was that bite of darkness to his words again.
“I’m yours.” She could never be anyone else’s. That was a fact she knew without a doubt.
“Say it again.” He thrust harder.
“I’m yours, Ian.”

It was an absolute pleasure to see again some of the past main characters, and little tease on Gray and Ophelia’s story, wow! I can’t wait to read more about them!

This book really worked perfectly from start to finish. The character development, the believability of all the scenarios and creatures created – specially if we take in consideration we’re talking about the supernatural universe her – where Katie Reus really transports us along with the characters through all these world in a way that makes us feel we are right there besides them and sharing their experience. The interconnection between all these installments even though they all can be read as standalone deserts merit on itself, and it’s one of the reason’s for this is one of my all time favorite series. All of this, coupled with the most perfect love story, how could we not get addicted?! But it sure is the best kind pf addiction, and I can wait for my next KR’s hit!

“Would you want to live without me?”
Tears flowing freely, she shook her head.
“Then don’t expect me to live without you. You’re mine, Fiona. Have been from the moment I laid eyes on you, from the moment you tried to warn me off fighting your brother because you were worried I’d get hurt. Don’t you dare expect me to live a life without you! You go into the afterlife? So do I. Simple as that. If we have a day left, I want to enjoy every second of it with you.”

As long as they were together, they could face anything. For the first time in a long time, she didn’t feel alone—and she knew he didn’t either.

I fell in love with this world since the first book and 6 books later I have not regretted it one bit. This series is going from strength to strength with each book in it's own fascinating setting and couple.

This book was about Ian and his lost love Fiona. Ian is Bo's half brother from the previous books, just in case you didn't remember. We found out about his love in the previous book and even without the details you could feel his pain. In this book the lovers re-unite and fight family and supernatural causes to be together.

With multiple POVs this book covers a lot of ground. We have Finn's POV, Ophelia's, Ian's and Fiona's and a few others. And it works. They were well written making you feel included in all the chaos that ensues. We also have a few flashbacks that I oddly enjoyed. For me multiple POVs and flashbacks don't always work. They either cause the story to be messy, making you lose track or they bore you. This was definitely not the case here.

I don't want to add spoilers for this as really think you should read it and fall in head first in the story. I loved both characters equally and their pairing was sweet and enduring. Though they went their separate ways neither forgot the other. We see how they met, why they broke up and what they go through to be together. And I have no complains for any of it. I loved Ian's endurance and steadfastness, his loyalty to Fiona. Fiona was no simpering female either. Willing to sacrifice everything for Ian's well being, working tirelessly to help others and could hold her own in battle.

"The woman lived inside him, was his mate."

"When she'd left him, it had been like cutting off a limb. And she had, essentially. Because Ian was a part of her, embedded in her skin, her soul."

"Dragon matings are for life. I... don't ever want you to regret mating with me. Even if every second that you are not mine is torture."

Will they finally be together and live happily ever after against all odds? Will their love let nothing stand in their way? Katie Reus left me hanging until the end. And I loved it.

4.5*

I’m loving this series. As a result are so short they can barely be classed as reviews. After finishing one book I am so desperate to move onto the next one that a couple of lines is all I can manage.

This is no exception.

I love both Ian and Fiona. One of the many strengths of this series is the sheer
depth of characters. There’s some amazing ones here and we’re never far from any of them. I also love the full supernatural mix. All the usual ones are here. Wolves, vampires and dragons (I do love dragons) but we also have demons, half-demons, God’s and Demi-gods. There’s also the hell realms.

Ian and Fiona fell in love over 50 years ago but her family separated them and kept them apart. But now Ian knows where Fiona is and nothing is going to keep him from his one true love.

This is another exciting read and it’s straight onto Guardian for me now.

4.5 - "Will you fly with me..?" Stars!

The sixth book in Katie Reus’ Darkness series, finally gives us dragon/demon shifter Ian McCabe’s story. I have been dying to find out more about this guy since we were introduced to him a couple of books ago.

ITs LIVE!

And as expected, Katie didn’t disappoint, Saved by Darkness was as enjoyably roller-coaster as its predecessors, and the reconnection after fifty years apart between Ian and Fiona was played out around another really good suspenseful story-line.

"I made a promise…"

As you would expect if you have read the previous books from the series, a lot is going on in this book, with quite a few POVs thrown into the mix to make sure you are given the story from all sides. I liked that Ophelia the Stavros Pack’s healer and young wolf shifter Gray played a little part in its telling as well as getting lots of involvement from all of the usual characters that I have come to love from reading the previous books.

She couldn’t walk away from him again. Her heart couldn’t take it and she didn’t think his could either…

There were reasons for Ian and Fiona’s original separation, and as they start to talk to each other more about the intervening years, they both realize that a lot of what they believed to be true of the other is actually down to the manipulation of the truth from Fiona’s family.

We travel to another Hell Realm in this one as well, and I love that although from the authors imagination I never struggle to visualize the places she takes her readers too.

I adore this series, I have adored every book that has come from it so far, and I cannot wait for more, and hopefully soon!

There is so much Alpha goodness in this book! Our main couple is Ian who is half dragon, half demon and Fiona who is full blooded dragon. Then we get so many other players in this series with more half demons and wolf shifters. All of them working together to rescue a vampire and to stop the plans of dragons trying to kill of the human race.

I enjoyed the uniqueness of all these dominant males working together in the Hell realm to rescue one of their own and stop the plans of mad dragons. The imagery of the realm and the battle scenes would make a great movie. I learned about so many couples in this book that I want to read about and can't wait to see where the author will continue to take this series. ARC provided by NetGalley.

4 ~ Blue dragon fire ~ Stars!

I seriously need to own this whole series! I love the world that KR has created and I can't get enough of the wolves, the half demons and the dragons of course!

 photo 25B789DD-29DA-443D-BEA8-E647E89EBDBF_zps1karvz9j.jpg

There is something just so crazy awesome about dragons and Ian definitely fills all alpha hottie requirements for being all dragon *wink wink*

When Ian is finally reunited with Fiona after fifty two years apart, there is no way he's walking away from her a second time. This second chance romance might just be cut short when Fiona is pulled into a dark and menacing plot to enslave humans.

This was another great adventure full of danger, angst, love and two perfectly paired MCs. Because Ian and Fiona were adorable together. I loved how committed they were to each other, even after all the years apart. Their love hadn't waned one bit and it was obvious how much they meant to each other.

I loved catching glimpses of the Ian's brothers and sister and that ending was EPIC! Like I didn't expect it, I didn't see it coming and I was completely taken by surprise!!

There are so many great characters here and I love discovering the little hints and meaningful looks between certain characters because it feeds my need to learn more and ship for more couples. I know I'll be checking back with this series again and again. I can't wait for Gray's HEA and Javier is definitely another interesting addition!

Safety: Being supernatural beings, Ian is "a little over a hundred." and Fiona is eighty two. Only the h was a virgin but we get no details or mentions of Ian's past. He definitely wasn't a man-whore or player, preferring to fight rather then hook up. During their 52 year (forced) separation they both remained celibate. There is no OM/OW drama, no pushing away and it is a bit angsty but the ending is super sweet and worth the mushy tears I shed reading this. Ends with a HEA and no epilogue

I love this series, I love the writing, the plot and I love the narrator Jeffrey Kafer. His voice is just perfect for this series.
In this book six, we follow Ian McCabe, whom was first introduced in Hunted by Darkness and again in Into the Darkness as one of Bo and Rory’s siblings (Book 4&5 respect). Ian has always been ashamed of his heritage as half demon and half dragon. The demon side has been the cause of scorn but most painful loss was his mate Fiona O’Riley who married another to save him over fifty years ago.

A chance meeting revealed that she did not in fact marry another but lives within the Stavros’ wolf territory. Now he has to convince her that they finally belong together.
I love second chance romance tropes. They often allow the author to properly develop character’s past. The reader has a chance to get to know the main characters and properly empathize with their plight. Ian and Fiona didn’t disappoint. They were young lovers fighting against family obligation and expectation.

As with the prior books, Saved by Darkness was full of action and romance. In addition, there were humorous banter between Ian and his brothers. In fact, the reader met yet another half demon brother. I love how the author continues to link each story together by maintaining contact with the previous couples. The stories are not overly long and my attention is continually engaged.
I am a big fan of Jeffrey Kafer and the superb job he has done narrating this series. He has never caused me to be confused. He gives life to each character and I am able to follow very easily. I really recommend listening to this series in order so you can appreciate the journey each story undertook to get to this point. I love this series and I can’t wait until the next story.
If you love action packed, super sexy with really captivating characters, this is the series for you.

I've followed this series from the beginning and just love it's crazy mixture of dragons, shifters, demons and even vampires but the last couple of books have featured half demon brothers who really have been dragged through the mill! Ian is by no means an exception to that rule. Half dragon and half demon and all round scary dude! He's not one to cross, a born fighter and yet there was once someone who struck him dumb. Finding the female who should be his mate and then losing her set Ian on an even darker path but at least he connected with his half brothers.
Now though Fiona is back in Ian's life and all the dirty secrets are being revealed. Fiona was cruelly manipulated by those who should revere her but as far as Ian is concerned it's finally time to step up and stake his claim. Well that would be fine except for tiny details , like her brothers are still around to stir things up and then of course there's a master plan in motion that sees Ian and Fiona heading straight into a Hell dimension!
Fiona has a sweetness to her that's often lacking in paranormal heroines but that isn't to say she's weak, far from it but she has been betrayed and treated abysmally . Ian is alpha to his core and struggles to play nicely with others but that just adds to the fun! Their second chance at love gets all kinds of messed up though leaving the couple with a huge dilemma. Luckily Ian has reluctantly found allies and it's these interactions that often made me smile although if things are to end happily it's going to take a leap of faith.
Such a creative series with characters that just leap off the page. I won't go into the plot as it unravels at an interesting pace with a huge twist. There's enough action to keep this reader engaged but if honest it's the minutiae details that flesh it out as supporting characters become very real and I can't wait to see what the author dreams up next
This voluntary take is of an advance reader copy from Netgalley and these thought are my honest opinion

The Darkness series is one of the very few paranormal romance series I just love!
Ian and Fiona have a heartbreaking second-chance love story with some great surprises that kept me turning the pages way past midnight.
The worldbuilding is fantastic and I loved the creepy hell realm. With Saved by Darkness you get lots of action, adventure, tension and hot steamy romance. Highly recommended!

5 When not If Stars.

With finishing this book and loving every moment, minute, second, millisecond you get my drift here it is clear that I don’t read enough paranormal romance. This must be changed.

I am a fan of the Darkness series. It’s authentic, Ms. Reus brings all the characters to life that each individual be it the main characters, secondary characters or new characters shine with their own unique personality. In a world that has been built that has you craving for more.

*I*
Like big dragons and I cannot lie
You other readers can't deny that there is just something about dragon shifters we all love.

My mini song is over now.

Ian McCabe is a half dragon shifter/half demon. He isn’t civilized at that is what makes him such a freaking Beast of a Hero. Best. Hero. Ever! He is sweet, overprotective of those he loves. He is the ultimate alpha. He doesn’t ask he demands.

Fiona comes from a draconian clan where female dragons should be seen and not heard. She wants more in life and in New Orleans fate throws her in the path of Ian McCabe. I was very amused at their first encounter.

“Why do you wish to speak with me in a coat closet?” He felt awkward as he talked to her. She took a small step forward. “I know you’re supposed to fight my brother later, so I’m just warning you…he’s never lost. He’s very, very strong.” “Are you mated?” She blinked those startling blue eyes. “Did you hear what I said?” “Yes. Are you?”

Fiona helps other females in the supernatural community that are being abused. So that they never have to go through what she went through.

The flashbacks of past (52 years ago) are bittersweet of a true love nearly destroyed by a devious, callous, despicable family. But the present offers a second chance for them to mate. To live and have their happily ever after. This time they are willing to fight no matter what.

One thing I would like to know is what clan does Ian come from?

I hope this series never ends. I would love to see a book with Gray and Ophelia. As well as Ava and Javier. This is a truly phantasmagorical (my big word of the day) lol, series. A series that even if you are not a fan of paranormal romance can sway even the ones that are hardened against the genre.

I read this book first before reading the first one in the series. Yes I know I make great decisions.. Anyways, this book was completely lackluster. The h rubbed me the wrong way, the H was big puppy dog with no spine and lived on the scraps thrown to him by the h. The whole set up had too many plot holes to begin with and no character development. Only thing that I remotely found interesting in this book was the big bad villain who lasted may be 12 pages..

ARC Review

If you are a fan of dragon shifters, you will enjoy this latest installment in the Dark series by Katie Reus. Ian is a half-demon, half-dragon hybrid. He falls in love with another dragon, Fiona. She is an under-appreciated daughter from a very traditional dragon family. In their minds, he is not worthy of her breeding and standing and they successfully conspire to keep Ian and Fiona apart.

This is a second chance romance in which the origins are told through flashback. I think it is an effective device to show the reader the evolution of the romance. I think too many second chance tropes fail to establish the origins of the relationship. This one is done well.

The relationship is threatened by a conspiracy by a group of paranormals to annihilate humans and establish the “proper order” in the earth realm with shifters on top. Fiona is intimately involved as she is attacked by this gang and is mortally wounded. Ms. Reus successfully creates the tension and suspense in the race to find a cure.

The story moves at a good pace and reaches a satisfying conclusion. My one small critique is that some of the dialogue is repetitive. But overall, this is a nice addition to the Darkness series.

Katie Reus saves us from the darkness of romantic despair in this one, my fellow romance book-loving friends. How? By giving us a likable “meant to be together” main couple whose true love would not be denied. Ian and Fiona are so devoted not only would they sacrifice their own life for the other, but they would follow one another right through death’s door, if need be, without hesitation. Considering all the perilous, action packed half-demon/wolf/dragon shifting drama, those two elements came dangerously close to becoming a reality for this reunited couple, folks.

Though it’s my first book of this series, I can attest Ms. Reus did a great job of not making me feel like the awkward, newly discovered relative at a big family gathering. I felt right at home as characters from previous books were introduced/incorporated into the multi-pronged mission they banded together to accomplish. She even handled necessary, reoccurring flashbacks to fill in the romantic angst/past between these two dragon shifting soulmates without a literary whiplash effect.

Even if you have never read this particular genre, don’t be afraid to step out of the shadows into the heart melting light of this great romantic read. This NetGalley reviewer hopes to now backtrack and eventually read the entire series.

Title: Saved by Darkness, Series: Darkness (Book 6), Author: Katie Reus, Pages: 304, stand-alone but part of a series, good guy/alpha hero, strong heroine who knows how to defend herself, MC celibate during long separation, HEA, no cheating, no OW/OM drama, no love triangle, romance safety read, paranormal, dragon/wolf/half-demon shifters, graphic battle type violence, devoted/enduring MC, well-written/engaging, VERY steamy scenes that do not hijack the story line.

Book 1 - Darkness Awakened (Finn & Lyra), Pages: 161, 11/3/13
Book 2 - Taste of Darkness (Drake & Victoria), Pages: 265, 7/24/14
Book 3 - Beyond the Darkness (Keelin & Bran), Pages: 345, 3/10/15
Book 4 - Hunted by Darkness (Nyx & Bo), Pages: 209, 2/9/16
Book 5 - Into the Darkness (Rhea & Conall), Pages: 350, 4/5/16
Book 6 - Saved by Darkness (Ian & Fiona), Pages: 304, 2/21/17

Saved by Darkness is book 6 in the Darkness series featuring Ian and Fiona. This was an enjoyable addition to the series. I enjoyed the second chance romance and how it was told through flashbacks. Ian and Fiona were separated more than 50 years ago by her terrible family. They meet up again and Ian is determined to finally mate her. I loved seeing some of the characters from previous books especially Finn. Overall it was an enjoyable story but I was bored at times while they were in the Hell realm. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.

Good Read by Katie Reus.

Ian is a dragon shifter who lost his first love Fiona many years ago. Fiona left him because she thought that was the only way to save him from her family. Her family wanted her mated to another from a different clan to form an alliance. So she left Ian and her family and stayed away for over 50 years. But now she has run into Ian again and all her feelings come back.
Ian and Fiona have to go through a lot in order to be together. They battle for their lives and protect each other. It's true love for both of them.
This was a great shifter read. I love the paranormal genre. I definitely want to read the other books in this series. Even though the author has said this can be a standalone book. It's prob best to read it in order. I didn't and it was a little confusing throughout with all the different characters and not knowing their full history which I would have gotten if I read them all in order. But overall a good read. Def a 4 star book. I look forward to more of her books in the future.
Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with this ARC.

DNF at 50%. Ok so here's the thing with these kind of paranormal romance books- they suck (in my humble opinion)
Soooo much extra content on the paranormal world that I don't care about and so much extra plot on top of plot with absolutely no romance to be found. Yeah there's chemistry but when they're supposed to be fated mates and they don't even kiss until halfway done the book it just irritates me. The author is just dragging out a book for no reason and the payoff of when they finally get together is never worth it.
Moving on

My Review:
Overall: 4.25
Performance: 4.5
Story: 4.25

Even dragon shifters need a second chance at love. (Sorry, I just had to.) But seriously, this is a good book just because I am such a sucker for a good second chance at love. Fifty years ago, Fiona and Ian were involved, but her family would never accept a mating between them so she sacrificed herself so he could move on with his life, never expecting to see him again.

So, it's a shock to both of them when they find one another living in the same area of the country...in the area of Finn's wolf pack area. While they knew that they missed the other, neither one realized the depth of those feelings that have never let go. And suddenly they are joining together to head into the hell realm. (Yeah, this series is NEVER lacking for action.)

And they aren't alone...all the characters from the other books show up in this one, too...along with another new half-demon brother (yes, please!)

This is a fun series. It's seriously action packed and while the books aren't super-long, they pack a good level of emotion. I'm really enjoying listening to them all on audio. But don't worry...you can easily pick and choose which ones to read if you don't want to tackle the whole series. The author has done an amazing job of explaining the world good enough in every book that you'll never be confused whether you're reading book #1 or #6.

Ian and Fiona..oh man, talk about pining for one another! Ian met Fiona over 50 years ago on the paranormal fighting circuit. Ian is an alpha dragon/demon shifter. Fiona is a dragon shifter. They fell in love, but Fiona's family wouldn't allow them to be together. Jump to present day, and the two rediscover one another when unusual circumstances bring them together to fight a new threat.

Separately, they're witty and intelligent with mad fighting skills. Together, Ian and Fiona were a paranormal version of Romeo and Juliet with a narrow escape at a bad ending! This was a great second chance romance, full of surprises, fun secondary characters, and a lot of pent up frustration!

I love this romantic fantasy series the author has created! Wolves, vampires, dragons, demons, demi-gods..the choices are limitless! Katie Reus weaves a magical spell with each couple with their individual brand of humor, suspense, action, and romance. Each book could be read separately, but it's much more fun to read them in order!

I have loved every book in this series so far but I have to say 5 and 6 are my standout favourites I loved that they had multiple storylines running within each other and multiple couples coming together.

Ian and Fiona have been denied being mated for over 50 years enough is enough talk about interfering families well Fiona's family anyway and omg we get to meet Ian demon daddy dearest and isn't he a treat....lol

I love how since book 1 everyone is becoming a family even though they are not blood they are bonded and thats stronger than blood.

This series just get's better and better and more entertaining with each new book I can't wait for more.

Saved By Darkness is a fantastic entry into this awesome series. It had action, romance, moments that broke your heart and others which melted it. I thoroughly enjoyed this and can't wait to read more. While this can definitely standalone, I would recommend reading the stories before it because not only are they fantastic as well, but all the characters move throughout the stories, and you'll get more out of those appearances when you have their background information. I definitely recommend this series to paranormal romance readers, and anyone looking for a well written story filled with action, suspense and great chemistry between leads. Loved it!

•••••••••••••

REVIEW: 4.5 stars--SAVED BY DARKNESS is the sixth installment in Katie Reus’s contemporary, adult DARKNESS paranormal, fantasy series. This is half-demon, half dragon shifter Ian McCabe, and dragon shifter Fiona O’Riley’s story line. SAVED BY DARKNESS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from several third person perspectives including Ian and Fiona using present day and the past, SAVED BY DARKNESS is a second chance story line for Ian and Fiona. Fifty two years earlier Ian knew that Fiona was the one-his mate- and the woman that called to his heart. But Fiona’s sudden rejection and subsequent mating to another dragon caught our hero off guard never completely understanding what happened or why. Fast forward to present day New Orleans where Fiona is now the director of a shelter for abused and battered supernatural women. The shelter sits on the periphery of the Stavros Estate, run by the shifter Alpha Finn Stavros, and Finn wants an introduction to the woman who has helped rescue a number of abused shifter females. Enter Ian McCabe, half-demon/half-dragon shifter whose history with Fiona is heartbreaking and sad. Ian wants a second chance with the woman he has never stopped loving but the disappearance of Fiona’s co-worker Ava has the supernatural beings working together to uncover the threats against one of their own. The Hell-realm calls, and half-demon Ian knows his true nature will be revealed when Fiona’s life hangs in the balance and time is in limited supply. What ensues is the rekindling romance between Fiona and Ian, and the couple’s struggle to find the source of a magical poison that is killing the human population en masse.

The relationship between Fiona and Ian is one of second chances. Fifty two years earlier Fiona walked away in order to protect the only man she would ever love. Present day finds her love for Ian has never waivered but the threats against his life still linger in the present. Ian McCabe’s life was destroyed the day Fiona disappeared, and he has never stopped loving the woman that called to his heart. Finding his half-siblings allowed Ian to become part of the family but he will never truly be a part of the pack. The $ex scenes are intimate and seductive.

We are reintroduced to Ian’s half-brothers: club-owner Bo Broussard and his mate Nyx (Hunted by Darkness), Rory and his mate Liberty (Into the Darkness), and half-sister Cynara-all half-demons with a father in common; as well as a large number of the Stavros pack including the alpha wolf Finn, his vampire mate Lyra (Darkness Awakened), and their daughter Vega; and supernatural healer Ophelia, and wolf shifter Gray –who may or may not have found his mate in Ophelia. The Hell realm reveals a troubling trend when another one of Ian’s half-siblings is caught up in the drama. The requisite evil has many faces that are familiar to our story line couple.

SAVED BY DARKNESS is a complex and detailed story line focusing on family, betrayal, power and control. The premise is unique and intense; the characters are animated, spirited and energetic; the romance is passionate and intense. Katie Reus’s addicting world of the supernatural brings together dragons, and shifters, and demons-oh my !

Saved by Darkness is the sixth title in Ms. Reus’ entertaining paranormal romance Darkness series. This traditional PNR features a wide variety of shifters, vampires, demigods, and demons, each with a happily ever after. While each book is a standalone romance, the characters and mythology have been developed over the course of the series, making it a richly detailed world, one which is best experienced from the start.

This time around the story focuses on half-demon, half-dragon shifter Ian, whom we met a couple books ago. He fell in love with dragon shifter Fiona over fifty years ago, but she walked away from him and mated another in order to protect him from her family. Yet it’s been discovered that she’s been running a preternatural shelter for abused paranormals at the edge of Finn Stavros’s territory, a place Ian has come to live in recent months. Now that Finn is reaching out to Fiona, can Ian give her up a second time?

Right from the start, I found myself fully submersed in Fiona and Ian’s story. First, I enjoyed the flashbacks to the couple’s initial meetings and early connections. Even though the reader knows the outcome of their past, it's lovely to see how they fell in love, while running parallel to their reunion. Second, I adore how heroic and strong Fiona and Ian are, both in their mutual pasts and in current day. They each have a formidable moral compass, coupled with the need to protect those they love. Yes, a bit of maiming and killing of enemies is sometimes necessary and definitely a-okay!

Fiona and Ian’s attraction and love runs deep. Demonstrated through the flashbacks to their initial meeting, we learn that they have a love-at-first sight relationship that developed quickly. This makes their reunion so much sweeter, knowing that they have experienced an unfulfilled love for over fifty years. The author does right by the pair by allowing them to express their feelings for one another early on in their reunion, rather than drag things out or keeping up pretenses. The impact is that I cheered even harder for the pair to make it through the trials they faced.

Even though the love story is the most prominent part of Saved by Darkness, the couple, along with Finn’s werewolf pack, must deal with a new threat uncovered while making connections with Fiona. Some unknown “big bads” have created a new drug that will kill humans. This sends a group, including Fiona and Ian, into a hell dimension to uncover the plot. Additionally, Fiona is attacked with the drug, which appears to be fatal, giving the group some urgency to uncover the ingredients and find a cure. While the action is exciting and allows the couple to experience some emotional stress, the culmination and conclusion felt a bit too easy. However, that didn’t impact my overall enjoyment of the book.

In the end, Saved by Darkness is one of, if not my favorite book of the series. The author has found her groove and creates exciting tales. The balance between romance and action is ideal, and I love that the characters continue to play important rolls in the books even after they get their HEAs. I look forward to more, especially with the strong hints of the next (?) paring!

This is the 6th book in Katie Reus’ Darkness series and this is shifter Ian McCabe’s story about him and his lost love Fiona. We are familiar with Ian because he is Bo’s half brother and he has been seen in a few books.
Basically, when Ian first met Fiona, there was this spark between them immediately. Something that would never happen with anyone else so Ian wanted to get to know her and spend time with her. Fiona was instantly attracted to Ian and felt a connection with him that she's never felt with anyone else as well. Only problem is her family, including her brothers made it clear if she went near Ian, they would harm him greatly. The two began to meet in secret and during their short time together they realized they had found their soulmate. But all good things come to an end and their love affair came to an end the day Fiona’s family stepped in and put a stop to their relationship and to save Ian, Fiona had to do something horrible to save his life which broke his heart and ripped her heart out in the process.
Decades later the two meet again. Their love is still there –as strong and as deep as ever. Fiona and a good friend of hers run a home for abused women/ paranormals. How they found their way back to each other is this home is in a secluded and remote area surrounded by forest. Ian is visiting his half-brother and in the story, they are checking up on a woman who is on ends of their territory. Ian goes to meet this woman and its there he finds this woman is his ex, Fiona. That’s when we see he will do everything he can to get his woman back.
This is a second chance romance which also has is also a PNR and what a romance it is. There is angst, intense emotional conflict, pain , anger, yet also love , passion, deep abiding emotional connection and joy. There is so much emotions running rampant in this story… which at times you can get whiplash—yet it all fits. There is so much to be worked out between the MC in this story. I enjoyed the pace in this book. Its action packed, with some mystery/suspense with the paranormal romance angle on top of everything. This book has everything to satisfy the book lover out there. Ian and Fiona’s love story will have you rooting for their love as I was.

My rating: 4.7 stars ****

I don’t know what it is about this author’s shifters and demons but I just cannot get enough of them. They are your typical possessive, growling, super sexy sort of supernaturals however the way they are depicted and the voice the author gives them makes all the difference.
Ian and Fiona are both dragon shifters who had to part ways a while ago because her family didn’t approve of their relationship. Cut 50 years later and they get to reunite only to have their time together shortened by evil forces beyond their control.

Like I said, Ian and Fiona are pretty much typical in the sense of that they are alpha by nature but when it came down to do what was right for everyone they were both wiling to relent power for the greater good. That’s another thing I liked about the story; the author was able to tell a believable story where there already was one true leader in the series however she managed to include other alpha characters without stripping power away from the Alpha of the whole pack.
Another favorite part of mine was that we spent more time with old characters and we finally got to meet the “sperm donor” of the half-demon siblings, which by the way are kind of my favorite characters of the whole pack.
All in all I thought it was a great story and I cannot wait to see who the next couple in the series will be. 4 stars.

*** I received this book from the author at no cost to me and I volunteered to read it; this is my honest opinion and given without any influence by the author or publisher.***

I absolutely loved this installment in Katie's paranormal urban fantasy romance series!

She was his life, his everything.

Saved by Darkness by Katie Reus is an exceptional addition to Katie’s Darkness series which features thrilling romantic tales encompassing an incredible mix of paranormals including dragons, wolf-shifters, demons, demi-gods and vampires. Even though this is the sixth installment in Katie’s Darkness series and there are interconnected characters shared with the previous books, Saved by Darkness can easily be enjoyed without hearing or reading the previous books in the series. That actually holds true for any of the books in this series. That said, I would recommend reading this series in order, if possible. Doing so will give readers a better understanding of the primary and supporting characters and the whys and wherefores of their interactions.

Saved by Darkness is the second-chance-at-love story of half-dragon/half-demon Ian McCabe and dragon Fiona O’Riley and is told from several third person perspectives in the present day and with flashbacks from the past. Ian is the only male Fiona has ever loved and that she still loves. But, her family has forbidden her to have anything to do with him. She has and will do anything to keep him safe.

Fifty-two years ago, Fiona had rejected Ian because her family threatened to hurt him if she did not walk away from him. Breaking up with him caused him – and her - immeasurable pain which has not abated over time. Now he’s walked back into her life determined to find out why she left him and set on winning her back. But her family is still out there, so Fiona isn’t on board with giving their relationship a second chance. That is, until they are forced to band together to fight a new enemy in the Hell realm threatening humanity and supernaturals as well.

Both primary characters are awesome. Ian is alpha through to his core. He’s powerful and a scary fighter – not a creature to cross. Even so, he shows heart-rending tenderness with Fiona and, even though it’s not in Ian’s nature to follow, he is remarkably controlled and exhibits amazing finesse in his dealings with Finn and the Stavros Pack.

Fiona is also an impressive creature – but she has a sweetness in her make-up. She sacrificed everything for Ian’s safety and has since worked tirelessly at running a shelter for abused and battered supernatural females. The shelter sits on the periphery of the Stavros Estate, run by the shifter alpha Finn Stavros.
Previous favorite characters in the series play strong supporting roles in this tale. Fans will enjoy catching up with them. There is also a secondary story line between the Stavros pack healer Ophelia and Gray, a sculpting wolf-shifter.

Following please find a few of my favorite quotes from Saved by Darkness:

"I want to mate with you more than my next breath, but I need you to be sure.” His eyes were human again as he continued. “Dragon matings are for life. I... don't ever want you to regret mating with me. Even if every second that you are not mine is torture."
---
Cupping one of her cheeks, he swiped at the wetness.
If we have a day left, I want to enjoy every second of it with you.”.
---
“I’m not letting you go, Fiona,” he murmured before brushing his lips over hers. She tasted like heaven.
And his.
Only his.
“I’m not going anywhere.”

I listened to the audio of Saved by Darkness which is vividly performed by Jeffrey Kafer. He has very capably narrated the entire series-to-date. His delivery is polished as he brings each character to life with voices and inflections that sound genuinely realistic. His narration is extremely clear and easy to understand and follow. He differentiates between the characters to where I experienced no issue whatsoever knowing who is speaking at any time. Without a doubt, his performance enhanced my enjoyment of the book. I highly recommend the audios in this series to both audiophiles and audio- newbies.

Saved by Darkness is a great book as is the norm from Katie Reus. She seamlessly blends paranormal romance, suspense and danger incorporating a myriad of surprising twists and turns into addictive perfection! Believe me, there is not one boring second in the entire book as I was captivated straight through to the emotional roller coaster ending. The next book in the Katie’s phenomenal Darkness world will be Gabriel’s, the Stavros Pack’s Guardian's story. I honestly can’t wait!

Saved by the Darkness is the 6th book in the series and while you could possibly read it as a stand alone you'd get more enjoyment by starting at the beginning of the series. This book features Ian the half demon and half dragon. I was intrigued by this character in early books and was very happy to read his book. This is a second chance story about Ian and Fiona who he had met and fallen in love with 50 years earlier. Circumstances kept them apart until they finally met again in this book. There is plenty of action, intrigue and of course wonderful characters and a great love story. I have enjoyed all the characters in these books and we get several of their POVs in this book. It's fun to catch up with Ian's brothers and of course Finn. This book takes us to another hell realm and the descriptions make it easy to imagine the realm. This is an entertaining series with well developed and likable characters and we can't forget it has Dragons!

A copy of this book was provided to me by NetGalley and the publisher with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.
