Holly Sanders is an orphan at the age of twenty-two. She never got a chance to know her father, her mother was raised Amish, and never spoke about her Amish roots or her father. Now both of her parents have passed and Holly is given a chance to find her grandparents and learn about the Amish lifestyle they live. She has so many questions, but will she find the answers amongst the Amish?
Evan Miller was happy being on his own with his farm and animals. He always intended to get married and have children, he just never imagined a child would come before the wife. With his only sister and brother-in-law dead in a house fire, he was the obvious choice to raise young Becca. There’s only one small catch – Becca hasn’t spoken since the night of the fire.
When Holly meets Evan and Becca for the first time, she’s taken by his handsomeness, and swayed by Becca’s quiet nature. When Becca begins to grow close to Holly, she find her heart becoming attached to the little orphan girl and her very admirable uncle.
When Evan offers to help Holly locate her mother’s family, she can’t say no. Just like she can’t say no when he and Becca invite her to spend Christmas with them. Will their relationship be one that can last the differences between them? Will Holly be able to handle the simple way of life the Amish live and their dedication to Gott? Will this Christmas be a special one for Holly, Becca and Evan?
About struggling through loss and finding love, and healing! Great read! Can't wait to read the rest of the trilogy! Still felt epilogue rushed through the conclusion too quickly though and wish it had been longer with more details but still a good read.
I enjoyed the story although it was very short and somewhat predictable. Though perhaps that is due in part because of my reading so many "Amish" books. I expected more to the story. Much more could have been written about the family.
Holly Sanders writes for a newspaper. Her Father was a drunk & abusive to her Mother. Her Mother divorced him not long after she was born.
She was 19 years old and found through research in Philadelphia her Father died 10 days before she arrived. She argued why her Mother hadn't told her his name sooner.
A few years later her Editor came to her office that her Mother died of a heart attack. He knew she was Amish and left to marry her father.
Now the editor assigns her to find out more about Amish customs & write an article for the paper.
Her Mother's maiden name was Bontrager, born in New Wilmington, PA.
She goes there to see if any of her family is still there. She has a small picture when her mother was younger, but not dressed as an Amish woman.
This book has so much more to it you need to read it. Will she find her Amish family & more? Enjoy.
This story, by Hannah Schrock, was a first for me for I have never experienced this author's writing style before. I must say that I originally was going to give this novel a three; however, the story-line was different then 'typical' Amish novels and very well developed so I decided on a four.
"The Amish Orphan's Christmas (Amish Romance)" is a tale about a grown woman becoming an "Amish Orphan" as her life intermingles with the lives of a young man who takes in his niece who also has became an "Amish Orphan." Holly Saunders is not the A-typical Englisher, for she knew of her mother's roots without actually knowing anything about them. As she embarks on a new adventure to find out about her mother's heritage she just might find a piece to feel the spot that has been empty in her life.
I really enjoy stories about the Amish life. Life is so fast paced and packed with things that must be done. I sometimes wish for a slower pace. Believe me, I don't want to give up electricity. I just would like to have more time to enjoy life. To have more time for God, family and friends. The book needs a little bit of editing........
Holly is amazed at how her life changes since going to the bed and breakfast. When she meets Evan and Becca she grows attached to them right away. The way Evan helps her find her family is wonderful. You will feel God working throughout this whole book.
I always enjoy reading books about the Amish way of life. They knowledge God so innocently and with simplicity it makes my soul shout out loud. If that makes any sense.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!¡¡!!!!!!!!¡!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!........!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This was a good story. I could not believe the turn of events in the story. I cried with the midwife. She did everything right. I hope everyone enjoys the story as much as me.
This is the 10th book I read by Hannah Schrock. I liked this book's storyline. This book's storyline was kind of sad 😢. I liked Holly's character. I liked Evan's character. I liked Becca's character. My heart broke 💔 for Becca. The ending was okay.
Very inspiring book. Glad she found her family and they welcomed her as one of them. Read at one sitting. I recommend this to every one A few typo's but worth the reading.
