A dark and explicit tale of a young captive taken from his monastery by the Captain of the Grogeni forces - as his bed partner prize. Over time, Stockholm Syndrome - on both their parts - trans forms them.
Ayden's interest in slash began with Mary Renault's The Persian Boy. She began writing in various 'Alexander fan-fic' communities based more-or-less on movie-verse. (Which, unfortunately, did not conform closely to actual history in its dealings with Bagoas, her favorite character...)
Historical settings are still her favorite - times and civilizations where notions of heterosexual and homosexual did not exist. Where slavery and power-based relationships DID. Though her work is frequently dark and angsty, she very much prefers happy endings.
I love how this illustrated the reality of how slavery is instead of romanticizing it like most mm books do. You can feel the struggles and the inner turmoil of what the enslaved MC goes through all the way to the end. The reality of what slavery does to a person's psyche is clearly shown. Love this book! Love this author!! I wish they would write more books because I would buy and read them all!
When slavery destroys the slavers as much as the slaves… A must read for those who liked Flesh Cartel from Rachel HAIMOWITZ or Bloodraven and The Dynasty of Ghosts from PL NUNN. In fact, this book is even better written. The logical construction is far more convincing here.
