His Firecracker

Rate this book
Cole Lyon is coming home after over ten years away. He's changed, Rose's Ranch has changed, and yet this is the place he's always thought of as home. Meeting the fiery Chef Rayne Thompson on her first day of work makes him even more glad he's home. The chemistry is immediate, but she quickly tells him that she's only staying a short amount of time. She's working her way south and this ranch is only a stop on her road there. He finds out why. She burns every bridge she encounters and never looks back. That temper. That body. That active intriguing brain. This is a woman he would love to tame. He's served in the military, broken horses, and she seems more challenging than anything he's encountered. His palm itches to help her, teach and guide her. Rayne has no interest in a man. She has goals and does not want anyone telling her how to behave or how she should run a kitchen. Especially not some ex military ranch hand who thinks he can cook and thinks he can deal with her staff better than she can. Her temper. His infuriating calmness. Which is more powerful and why does love have to mess up the best laid plans?

Someone should put in description that this book contains violence. I saw it was contemp.rom. where fiery characters collide and thought it will be fun. It was not.
I have only one word for this book - disgusting. Domestic abuse was presented as a completely normal BDSM part, but there really is a distinction of spanking someone to give additional pleasure and beating someone with a wooden spoon just because she was stressed about the wedding. Not to mention how the guy was aroused and happy after he had just spanked his bride with a wooden spoon while she was trashing, crying and begging him to stop it. Violence is not a stress relief. Spanking is supposed to be pleasurable, not used as a tool for intimidation. In cases it is used to punish someone for a bad mood, being stressed or snapping in anger, it is called abuse. I was thoroughly disgusted when reading this promotion of abuse and its presentation as a natural, completely acceptable part of any relationship while at the same time demeaning all women by stating that they should forget about their crying, begging and pain and let their boyfriends/husbands sleep with them afterwards because the abusers got aroused from making their girls trash in pain and tears and "cannot let that hot bottom go to waste". Disgusting.

Cole Lyon arrives at Rose's Ranch. He is Jeb's brother's son, but was fostered and raised by Jeb and Rose for a time, so he was also considered Jeb and Rose's son and Matt's brother.

On his way to the ranch after leaving the Navy, Cole spots a redhead swinging a golf club to save a dog in a hot car. He is attracted to her passion and fire, but must go on to the ranch. Imagine his surprise when she shows up as the new chef for the ranch.

Rayne Thompson has a temper, which has made her bounce from kitchen to kitchen. Her goal is to own a food truck, so she won't have to deal with staff. But she is fine at Rose's Ranch where the pay is good and kitchen is state of the art. Then there is Cole....that hot cowboy that cooks, too.

Stress causes tempers to rise and Lyon's women to get spanked. Cole takes Rayne in hand. Liz's upcoming wedding is causing frequent trips over Matt's lap. Then Gabe is eager for Blaze to come out to his family.

A double wedding is coming!!

I don’t think I’m the right target audience for this particular book in the series. The relationship between Cole and Rayne evolved too quickly with too little discovery between them for me to fully believe in it. I want to know the “why”s of things. I don’t feel like I have a good understanding of why Rayne – and even Cole, to an extent – behaved the way she did. And the discipline between Matt and Liz pushed all the wrong buttons in me. By the time she gets paddled (again) to calm her down instead of there being a rational conversation about why she’s legitimately angry, I was kind of done with this relationship. On the other hand, I adored seeing the resolution to Blaze’s romantic situation. That was the only thing that kept me reading to the end; finding out if he would get his happy ever after.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through Booksprout in the box set.

NOTHING GOOD IS EVER EASY

A Her Choice stories are a continuing saga of the Lyon family and what takes place at Rose Ranch. Wedding plans are in the works for Matt and Liz; a long lost Lyon man will return, a new Chef will come on the scene, and secrets will be revealed.

Cole Lyon is the nephew of Jeb Lyon; his father was Jeb's brother that was killed in a car accident by Cole’s mother. Cole lived with Jeb, Rose and Matt for six years started when he was ten-years-old until his mother’s release from jail where she took him away, and after her death, he went into the Navy for ten years. Now he needs to reconnect with family

Mariah wants to slow down her kitchen work at Rose Ranch, and they have a new Chef coming, Rayne Thompson. She has a fiery temper to match her red hair. Cole is drawn to this firecracker, and he and her butt heads many times, and eventually he ends up taking her over his knee. Rayne has a short work record because her temperamental behavior leads to her either being fired or quitting. Why is New Orleans so important to her? What secrets is she hiding?

Gabe is getting upset with Blaze for not coming out to his family about their relationship. What will happen when the Lyon family learns that Blaze is gay?

With the approaching wedding, Liz is stressing out, and Matt must take his lady love in hand multiple times. Why has her simple family wedding become the event of the entire town? Lots of changes at Rose Ranch, new marriages, new relationships, new beginnings and even unexpected surprises are on the way. There are plenty of men taking their ladies in hand, even if for some it in non-consensual. I look forward to the next book in this series.
