A Companion Book To Fallocaust #4

Garden of Spiders Volume 2

Rate this book
The Dekker family is enjoying the longest stretch of calm they’ve had in years. But at what cost? Elish is a veritable slave with no will of his own, and although his siblings and his sengil wish for the old Elish to return, the man in question is adamant that he’s happier this way. Even though Silas treats him like a dog, mental slavery is better than depression and eventual suicide, right?

However, it seems that Elish may soon not have a choice. Forces outside of the family are hard at work, and someone from Elish’s distant past is determined to turn him into the man he once was.

No matter the consequences.

After months of being held hostage, Dobby... I mean Quil... is finally free from his master. I no longer feel Elish's cold eyes looming over me as I type. It's finished!! And damn right 5 stars!

FULL OF SPOILERS
it's over :(
I'm so happy there's going to be a second one though! because what i really want to know is what happened after that book! I want to see Sanguine and oh my goodness Elish was with Jack??? I'd ship them if it weren't for my Sangy and Jade. It hurts my heart to know that they're pretty much enemies now. I guess they can get over it. In time.
And with Sanguine I guess I have this hangup, that I don't want Elish to dislike him, because he's half Jade basically (and I love Sangy duh)
I don't hate or dislike Elish anymore as I hoped would be the case. I assumed things about him and whatever mean things he did, well I always forgive Silas and have excuses for his behaviour because I love and understand Silas, i could have done the same thing with Elish.
It's were your loyalty lays I guess.
It was crazy how Elish came to love Silas. Like wtf. But I guess love and hate are a thin line apart. And maybe immortal attraction?  or is this just for born immortals?
He would have been really different if he was in another environment. His way of thinking and his pride was created by Silas mostly. He is the heir, the first born, better than the peasants humans etc.
His existence was sad. He tried to be strong by being cold and having control over everything.
I'm sorry to say It's Silas' fault he got this bad.
Btw Silas, darling, no parenting skills whatsoever lol I know I know you are not their dad. He got better.
Elish cracked me up with his commentary about sengils being called dramatic and the name of the second book hahaha
Who would have thought, Elish falls in love easily. That was a shock. Another shock was that he wasn't just manipulating but he does love his siblings.
The kids were so cute!!! And Cephy and Nero!! i want their book! I want everyone's book!
My heart broke a million times for Finny. He was such a sweetheart. but at least he had a good life. And Jullian.. How could he? That bastard!!!! But I actually liked that Elish didn't destroy him. that he doesn't hate him and how he killed him.
Just wondering though, was Finn Elish biggest love? That's rude but I wonder.
I loved the epilogue and how more relaxed and happy Elish is with Jade. And yeeees book 2!
P. S. Poor Sky baby clones
I love Quil's writing.. So talented.  I'm looking forward to the new series tbh, but I want to read mooore *greedy*
As of theories. Maybe Perish is Sky? I'm not good at this lol
Why didn't Elish fix Perry again later? What happened? Maybe Perry was faking being broken?

I have been a reader of this series for a very long time now.
There's a real talent for world building and story telling in these novels and I enjoy them immensely
In these latest two installments we get to appreciate how Elish becomes Elish and there is no skirting - as there isn't in any of the other books - seriously harsh issues from child abuse to the ethic and moral attitude to cloning and life in a post apocalyptic world.

Like all of the other books in the series I found myself upset, elated, sad, happy, shocked and surprised. There were many WTF and YOU DIDN'T and OH NO and *SMIRKS* moments and I recognize that a story which elicits so many different reaction is a great story indeed.

I am invested in all characters: some 'cause I love and some 'cause I'd like to whack them myself and I spend an inordinate amount of time thinking about this story.

To my buddy readers - Angela, Milla and Jen - girls I love reading these books with you all, I think we now have bucket loads of notes to keep us speculating until the next book is out.

WARNING: these books are dark, dark, dark. The author has an unbridled imagination and is not afraid to take the post apocalyptic scenario to its direst consequences.

Learning more about Elish. It was hard to read the beginning of this. There were so many parts that I had to step away from for a moment and come back to. While I knew (obviously) Elish would end up immortal, I kept hoping he could get away from Silas and just everything because wow.

I loved him. My husband was just… he was just amazing.

When you read books, you never got the chance to comfort the character you loved. You never got the chance to talk to them, or talk to them about what you’d just finished reading. But I did.

The last 2% of this had me in the floor. An absolute mess over this man, his life and this couple.

Ugh, I'm emotionally eviscerated after reading this companion duet about Elish's early years. I'm left feeling sad and desolate and will take myself on a mini break before diving into the next volume. Despite GOS2 turning my heart into a big pile of bleeding, raw nerves, I still rate it five stars.

Quil does it again, as he slowly and skilfully unwraps the layers of the Fallocaust onion to reveal how far and deep this story goes. I had more questions answered, and many more now pop up in their place.

Elish is unequivocally my favourite character, and this duet just reinforces it. It also reinforces what a formidable foe Silas is. He is manipulative and clever to his very core, and all of his children are victims in his games and are helpless to go against him in any sustainable way.

Other comments - Finny, you broke my heart, and I will always love you, and what a gift you were. Viva, the kitty kat ears!
Julian, I get why you turned out the way you did, rejection is a bitch, but you're also a piece of shit.
Perish, oh how I miss you!
Silas, just simply...fuck you.

Next up after my heart heals is The Silent Ground duet.

Poor Elish. What a horrible start to his long life. This book explained a lot about the way he is and his and Silas's relationship. I love the bond he had with his siblings and am sad about what they must've went through from then until present day. A ton of fuckery I'm sure :( I liked Perish's part in the story as well and the relationship he and Elish had.

In all the books I've read about the fallocaust, I always know what's about to happen. But never once did I feel as disappointed as I did in this volume.

Don't get me wrong, Quil's books are supreme. The worldbuilding is magnificent, all the strange mutated monsters and the gore is over the top, especially if you like horror. And you can really get into the skin of the characters to feel all their emotions and the events they go through.
It happens often, I already know the plot twists and secret information before you are supposed to know it in books. Usually, not always. But it's not often that I'm disappointed once they bring in the plot twist like I am now.

After the whopper of an ending in Part One, Part Two picks up years later; Elish, mentally enfeebled and kept on a veritable cocktail of drugs, is an eager and willing servant of King Silas, working with Perish to master immortality. Everything changes when Julian re-enters his life, and the two start to work towards bringing Silas down.

That's as much as I can say, and even that seems like too much. One of the advantages of this series being so niche is that it's hard to stumble across spoilers, and as someone who can't resist spoilers it's a novelty to be blindsided once in a while. Garden of Spiders has a lot of twists and turns, and we're slowly seeing Elish evolve into the man we know.

And it feels right. It's so easy to take the cheap path and have bad things happen to a character and use that to explain everything, but it feels earned. When things go wrong it's often as a result- directly or not- of Elish's own hubris, and that's at the core of his character; Elish is a slytherin, through and through; he's cunning, ambitious, and proud, but he's often blindsided by something he hadn't anticipated, and here we see that played out to great- and often tragic- results.

The genius of the companion novels is that often an off-hand remark gives deeper insight into a relationship, or throws a later occurrence into new light. Often, it leaves you with a sinking feeling that things are about to go bad, and quickly. There are also plenty of little hints as to what's going to happen in the future of the series; some of them any reader will pick up, some are so obscure that you'll need to be very well-versed in the series to pick up.

This is another fantastic companion novel that further enriches the Fallocaust Universe. Each companion novel is dispersed between every Fallocaust novel and they follow the life of a vital character.

You can't skip them as they're imperative to the story. This one is about Elish, a character that I absolutely despised.

Most of the main characters are chimera's, that are immortal and live in a post apocalyptic world. Elish was the oldest of his batch of four and this goes back about ninety years and tells about half of his life's story. It is horrific as are all Fallocaust novel's. They are not for the light hearted at all, they're extremely hardcore books.

As I'm a huge fan of this series I loved it

MIND BLOWING!!!!!

I was sadly late coming into this series. But, in a way that is good since I have not had a long wait to get my fix. This book gave us so much insight I to the minds and lives of Elish and Silas. Madness, insanity, and now and then a slight spark of actual humanity. Much like the chemicals ingested by the characters , this series has become my addiction. I bow to you Quil Carter and scream and beg for my next fix.

I'm finally finished.

If you count part 1 and part 2, I've been reading this book for almost a year. That is just...not okay. Haha! But I'm patting myself on the back because I finally did it.

It did not take me forever to read because it's a bad book. I don't think any Fallocaust book could be bad, like ever. It's one of my top three favorite series. So don't get me wrong, it was a great book. As I expected it would be. It was just hard for me to read because, well, Elish just isn't Elish for most of this book.

I'm not complaining by any means, I understand that this was showing how Elish became how he is now. But it was hard for me to see Elish, who is one of my favorite characters ever, not be himself. He is seriously so smart and manipulative and you know that if you did something to piss him off he would be planning your death for years and years, and at the perfect time he would take his revenge...that's the Elish I know and love. Elish in Garden of Spiders is pretty much exactly the opposite. He's emotional and fragile and gives away love too easily. He doesn't learn until it's too late and just isn't smart enough to know when he's being played.

This was definitely an interesting side of Elish to see. I'm glad I got this whole new perspective of what he was like as a kid and teenager. There's still so much we haven't seen of his life, 60 whole years, so I'm excited for the sequel that Jade is eagerly awaiting. I'll be especially excited for Elish's take on the beginning of their relationship.

One thing I learned during this book is that Finn is my weakness. That boy can make me cry! I wish he had gotten to live, but like Jade said, if he did then Elish and Jade would have never been together and probably wouldn't have even been interested in each other! Elish would be a completely different person. It still makes me sad though. Poor Finn.

The epilogue was really interesting since it was said Jade is 27. I was screaming in my mind, "what else is going on?!? Who's alive?! Who's dead?!? Silas?? Reaver?? Killian??" Haha! But I will just have to be patient at wait...it'll be hard, but I have no choice!

Now can Fallocaust 4 come out?? I'm so beyond ready!!

So many tears!

Finn oh Finn, oh dear Finn. The time with Finn may be short but I love him so much already. The sentiment for the cat ears just made it all the more meaningful. I love that Luca was worthy enough to Elish for him to achieve cat ears of his own. I wonder if Elish bought new ones just for Luca and what event transpired for Elish to do that. Hopefully it will be covered in the second book.

The ending where Elish forgave Silas in the end of the book gives me hope that everyone will be able to get past of their thirst for vengeance and put it past them. I mostly want to see the interaction between Killian and Silas when they stop hating each other, because they're both amazing people on their own and a lot more alike than they would prefer.

This book also allows me to forgive Silas and see him as the broken man that he is. He himself realized this, mentioned it a few times that he knows he's sick. The fact that he does feel guilt just means that he does have a soft heart underneath all of that front he always wears. He's not really a mental shapeshifter, he's just a really unstable man with a lot of issues.

This series changed my views on immortality. Silas was not even 500 years old and so much has happened to him. It is too heavy a burden to live to eternity and not seeing the end of the tunnel can be really terrifying. The prospect of not being afraid to die is great but forever is too long for the humanity in a person to survive.

The fact that Elish waited 13 years being faithful to Silas just to be rejected proves to me that Reno never had a chance with Silas to begin with. Silas will always choose Sky no matter what even when Sky ceased to exist. He never and will never stop at anything to be with the love of his life. As Perish said, Sky and Silas are soulmates to the point that they will always find each other even though they destroy one another. Hopefully, if the new Sky does decide to end himself again, he will take Silas with him this time to both finally rest in peace.

This series has my life in an absolute chokehold. Quill’s world is insane, addicting, fucked up and just a masterpiece.

In this companion book we focus on the life of Prince Elish Dekker from infant to the age of 33. Every book i’m thinking, nothing can top this, but boy am I proven wrong every goddamn time. Elish’s story is heartbreaking. And these companion stories are super important to learn why some characters are the way they are, so i highly suggest DON’T skip them.

Finn was my favorite character while reading this book! And I can’t stop gushing about how much i love him in the Fallocaust book group.

To say Elish hasn’t had an easy life is a big understatement. The events that happen keeps ripping out your heart and after finishing this one, i can only say, i love Elish even more. This novel is a perfect example for someone who struggles with PTSD after alot of traumatic events. I don’t want to spoil to much. But that part about the cat ears headband?! And the part that happens right after? Absolutely left me gutted. I cried and cried. I honestly cannot stop thinking about it.

”He was the bright light in my life, the sun in a world that had only seen brief glimpses of daylight. Finn wasn’t just a pure soul, he brought out the good in me.”

Five freaking stars - Garden of Spiders is Elish's autobiography up to the age of 33. It pulled out so many emotions. I was angry enough to want to throw my Kindle at the wall, and at times sat there stunned with tears running down my cheeks. The deceit and betrayal are non-stop in this book. I don't want to give anything away, but the heartbreak I felt for Elish was palpable. I feel like there is a fine line I walk wanting to spew everything I read, but hoping that by sharing more of how it made me feel will entice others who read these reviews to give Fallocaust a shot. The world building in this series is incredible and the love and attachment I feel for certain characters is crazy - probably bordering on unhealthy. And that love and attachment can change with a turn of the page. Talk about complex characters.

I find that as soon as I finish one book I have to immediately move on to the next - not sure what I'm going to do when I hit the end. Probably pray really hard that Quil has anther one coming down the pipeline sooner rather than later. I feel like the Fallocaust books can go on forever and I will never get bored. Keep 'em coming Quil - you have a fan for life!

Maybe I am a sympathizer?

Ok, so let me start by saying, Elish has always been tied for my most hated characters in the series with Killian. Admittedly, it made volume one really hard for me to read and took me longer to get through because of how disinterested I was in Elish’s shitty childhood. I struggled with the first half of this book too, but at around 75% I really started to sympathize with Elish and maybe I ever so slightly appreciate his character more, but I still hate him and actively root for his suffering in all the other books. I should also mention that at this point in time, I already finished all of the book 4 volumes and there are lots of pieces of this book I wish I knew when I read book 4 which was probably my favorite one so I guess I need to go re read it now with all the bits of back story that will have a lot more meaning now.

Garden of Spiders Volume 2
Do you love Silas?
Do you love Elish and Jade?
How about Reaver and Killian?
Or Sanguine and Jack?
So many to root for. So many to hate. It's getting harder and harder to figure out who the good guys are and who are the bad. Are there good and bad guys? Good question and after this many books, I still have no idea—and I love it!

Finn is my Sam Cortland of the Fallocaust series.

Elish would’ve been a completely different man if Finn were still around, which is such a fascinating thought. The resemblance between Finn and Killian is uncanny.

And the bloody cat ears 😭 - “It’ll make me work faster.” I always wondered about the symbolic meaning behind the cat ears that Jade and Luca wear, and now I finally know their origin.

As much as I hate to admit it, I actually adored the first-gen Chimeras in the companion books. It’s heartbreaking how they’ve all turned on each other now.

I always knew Julian was pure evil, and no matter how “nice” Silas seems in this book, I still hate him. Everything that’s happened is ultimately because of him and him alone.

So many tears.. This book completely destroyed me. Another masterpiece, it stirred something deep inside me. Raw, haunting and just soso beautiful ;u; I can’t get enough. I’m far too gone in this world.. It’s more addictive than any drug. It’s heaven, it’s hell, and I crave both. I treasure it. To feel something this deeply.. I feel lucky. Thank you Quil <3

Man oh man...

This was a tough read for me. There was a scene in this book that made me crawl in my bed and cry my fucking face off. It wasn’t as much as what happened but how Quil’s words had affected my emotions. After that scene, every time that certain character was mentioned face was wet with tears.

The first book was truly extraordinary. This one is not as good, it gets a little long in terms of years, yet more detailled would not be unwelcome because the story is really amazing
