She wants him… Alyxandra Franklin crushed on Cris Garcia the first time they met. He wasn't like the guys in her crowd, the boys in grown-up bodies. No, Cris was a man. A man who'd stand up for his girl, hold her close and keep her love safe. In spite of her feelings, Alyx never made a move on him. How could she? He belonged to her best friend, Gabi. And now it's too late.
He hates her… Cris figures if he never sees Alyx Franklin again, it'll be too soon. She's nothing but a spoiled stupid rich girl, too busy partying to care about anyone but herself. She's the reason Gabi, the girl he loved, lost her life.
But he's wrong. Gabi had secrets. When those secrets blow up his life, Cris is willing to go to any lengths to unravel the lies. Even if that means befriending Alyx—and sleeping with her—to learn the truth.
Rating: 2/5 stars Recommend: +/- Quick Summary: No Secrets was a layered story with many dynamics from relationship to relationship. The protagonists were fairly likable and yet they were quite immature, in many respects. I felt that some elements of the story should have been left out due to a lack of relevance, while other aspects could have been flushed out a bit more for a greater impact. This book, though decent, came across like a hybrid YA/NA. It was an ok read. This was a nice story. It was really simple, sweet, and a little bit sad. The book is in dual point of view so you get to experience the story both through Alyx's eyes and Cris.
Cris's character was very genuine. I felt and understood his hardworking background. He's pain surrounding Gabbi's death and his own insecurity. On the flip side, I felt like Alyx was a little bit hard to connect with in the beginning. Not sure if this was intended but I felt like she fell flat of living up to the description the author had written for her in the beginning. In the end, I connected and she grew but the beginning didn't feel like a real person.
The story line and plot were not that complicated. It really was a simple read. I didn't find myself bored with the book, but I also didn't find myself craving for any and all time to read it. I will definitely keep this author on my radar for possible future books.
This was book given to me by the author in exchange for a honest review.
I loved that this book featured an interracial couple! I haven't read hardly any stories that feature this and it was refreshing. There was romance and mystery which is a great combo!
I was given a free copy of this book in exchange of an honest review. No secrets was a pretty lengthy book but still catchy. Alyx is an extremely spoiled girl, who has never had to lift a finger in her life and on top of that has quit school, on the other hand you have the very narrow minded Cris, who is a responsible paramedic and in a way still mourning the death of his girlfriend. Then he decides to become really close to his ex's best friend who happens to be Alyx to find out the truth about Gaby. While Alyx starts changing her life around, not by choice but because her parents finally decide that she needs a lesson, she starts getting real feelings for Cris and the other way round. At the end Alyx learns her lesson, becomes independant and Cris finds out the truth about Gaby. In my opinion it had both good and bad points, but as I said I think the whole book was a bit too long and found myself a bit bored in some chapters.
Alyx has harbored a crush on her best friend’s man for what seems like forever but values their friendship too much to do anything about it and keeps her feelings to herself. Following the death of his girlfriend Gabi, Cris couldn’t care less if he sees Alyx ever again and blames her for Gabi's death. Following a series of events, Cris discovers that Gabi had secrets and he is willing to go to great lengths to uncover the truth.
This was an OK read, easy to follow but a little predictable. It was sweet but i didn't feel a connection to the characters and the story line was lacking depth.
When I first started reading No Secrets I didn't think I was going to be able to get into but I kept reading on, I really enjoyed this book and the story it told. I wish there was more!!! I really like that Alyx wasn't who Chris thought she was or who being rich should of made her! I would love to read more about Chris and Alyx though and am hoping for a second book!
No Secrets had an interesting plot and the potential to be a great story was tremendous, especially in the mystery parts. However, the story and characters were underdeveloped - even though I felt a connection with them at certain points of the story - and everything felt rushed. All in all, it was an okay read that unfortunately fell short of what it could have been.
A copy of the book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.
This was a very well written book the characters were interesting and the story had an easy flow, there were parts of this book that were captivating but there were parts that seemed slow moving. If you enjoy a slow romance with warm central characters then this is the book for you. I gave it 5 stars as the book itself is a well written and has characters that you can respond to, on that note I can't justify deducting a whole star because I found it slow in a couple of places. But if you prefer a more intense book this might not be for you.
I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review.
I thought this book was OK, it was a story of learning life lessons, mixed with a cute romance and was a fast, easy read. However, I didn't like a lot of the characters, including the main character Alyx even though she grew over the course of the book. This was even true about Alyx's dead best friend and Cris's dead girlfriend Gabi, who we never meet when she's living or even through flashbacks, but all of the characters tell us how great she was. As a reader it was hard to develop any kind of emotional connection to the Gabi character because of this. Several times throughout the book it felt like the author told the reader how to feel rather than used the story to allow the reader to decide how they should feel.
I received a free copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I don't know, this book was missing something for me. To me there was no passion, no deep burning chemistry that made me want to love these characters. The story itself had good promise but the writing did not show up the book. It was quite boring to me. Like I said I loved the synopsis, which is why I read the book but it just didn't meet the expectations I expected of it. The chemistry between the characters needed more building up and more showing not telling. Wasn't really a great build up of anticipation either. I'm a bit disappointed in this book expected much more. I think the story building in this book just needed a bit more development.
Once I started reading this book, I was glad it was my day off, because I could not put it down. The author does a great job pulling you into the story, so that you feel like you are there with them. This is not your common love story and romance, that you usually read. I like that it is different. It is a wonderful story that I highly recommend. I really like Alyx's mother. She is one strong, assertive woman. Maybe, Alyx is more like her than we first thought. Then, there is Cris. He is such a good man and a sexy paramedic. I voluntarily reviewed this advanced copy.
This story was different to ones I normally read , it's a layered story with flash backs . If took some getting used to while reading. However the story is a good read . Mixture of real feeling romance and friendship. It took a while to fall in love with the main characters but it comes . Keep reading and preserve as this book is a great story just starts a little slow but it does build to a nice read .
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. This was a great romance. I started reading and couldn't put it down. I suggest you pick up a copy.
No Secrets was an okay read for me. The story had some sweet moments and plenty of secrets, but it seemed like something was missing. The characters were likeable.
