Missing Beats

Rate this book
Missing beats happen in a fraction of time.

What would you do if a hot famous person rang your cell phone out of the blue? How would you feel -- if he asked to sleep on your couch?

Now, what would your answer be -- if this smoking hot man was a stranger to the adult you -- but had been your soulmate when you were a child?

To Jo, rock stars = Fame. Money. Music. Sex. A lifestyle she literally has no respect for.
Josie Carmichael's no rock star. She's not even famous, and she doesn't particularly like musicians . . .

When Jo Carmichael answered this call, a tender heart beat out of time -- but not in the happy and dizzy way you may think.

Most women would gladly beg for an opportunity to spend time with a handsome hot-blooded rock star, but they weren't Jo. Kane Exeter's job didn't impress her. More importantly, he'd broken her young heart.

However, with a burning curiosity to learn why Kane had deceived her, she doesn't refuse his pleading request.

Many women viewed a night with Kane as the most glorious time of their lives. To Jo, the man on the line wasn’t famous -- he was just an older version of a ten-year-old army brat she couldn't forget. But their lives have changed in ways neither could have ever imagined, and when they reconnect -- her life is put on hold.

With opposing lifestyles, and conflicted feelings for the special boy she used to know versus the sexy-as-sin man Kane is now . . . will she ever find common ground?

Strangers as adults with a strong childhood bond, Josie and Kane's world becomes closer than either of them could ever have fathomed. This brings emotional challenges beyond anything they could ever prepare for, or have imagined.

This book is a contemporary story with love, heartache, friendship, heart-stopping moments, finding your soulmate and second chances.

5 AS LONG AS THIS BEATS IN MY CHEST STARS

Firstly, fan me down, that cover!

I'm a sucker for a second chance romance, a childhood to adulthood love story and a baby daddy but sprinkle on the top a cocky, smooth talking hot Rock-star and I'm a goner.

Jo and Kane had grown up together in Germany on an Army base camp were their dads were stationed, although Kane was friends with Josie's brothers first the pair became inseparable.

When jobs changed, parents had to move and life moved on, the inseparable duo heartrendingly had to separate with a promise to always stay in touch.

Over 12 years later, Kane had made it big as a rock-star, he had always been that way and Jo supported him with his love of music as a kid. All Jo had from Kane in the years that passed were her memories and a 21st birthday card that arrived in the mail. Jo lived a mundane life working for her dad and her only glimpse of Kane and how he was doing since there separation had been on TV and in magazines with model women and celebrities.

A call out of the blue from Kane saying he had a concert in town and wanted to see her not only shocked Jo but she was angry that he obviously knew how to contact her but chose to now after all this time, she had grieved over his absence in her life and now older in it's place had anger over the broken promises.

Jo is a stubborn character and she really frustrated me even with all Kane's sweet talk and his poetic words to get back into her life and heart she didn't budge, her insecurities, her fear of Jake's lifestyle was the forefront of her thoughts and there was no winning her over no matter what her heart was saying.

Jo: My heart leapt that the boy i'd loved as a child could love me back, as a man. Right there and then I knew i'd never want him to do anything else.

Kane, well I can only describe him as cocky with a dirty mouth, a womaniser, swoon worthy and determined. Kane is a great character.

"You've always been in my heart, Jo. If you cut it up into tiny pieces you'd find Jo Carmichael in almost every one".

Why now? I could understand Jo's anger it was like he had sowed his oats, made his mark on the world so to speak and now because he had decided he wanted to seek out his soul mate and finally settle down thinking he could get it as easy as everything else that had come in his current life.

I loved the whole plot, I loved the backstory's of both characters told in Jo's pov, I got so frustrated and angry with Jo at times, even though I understood her reservations, her stubborn attitude drove me crazy but the whole plot was bittersweet and contained hot, humorous, heartwarming, heartbreaking and swoon-worthy moments so a little of something for every emotion.

Missing beats didn't blow me away it isn't that kind of read but I gave it 5 stars because it did have me reading in one sitting loving every page and eager to get to the end to find out how it would all play out. This is my first book by K.L Shandwick and I intend on reading more of her rock-star romances.

KL Shandwick has done it again and given us another epic 5 star read. I'm a massive fan of this author and have devoured each and every book she had given us but I have to say Missing Beats is definitely my favourite so far. I love the depth of the characters she gives us and the emotions that go into her writing style. It makes her books a definite page turner and completely hooks you from the beginning.

Kane and Josie were best friend's from been about 6 years old both were from military families so it was inevitable that the time would come when they were forced apart, but that doesn't mean they were any the less heartbroken when it happened. They tried to keep in touch but eventually lost contact. Both were forced to get on with their lives, now 12 years later Kane is a famous singer with a rock band and is doing a gig in Jo's hometown it's their chance to reconnect but with growing up comes feelings, after all these years will it really be that easy to carry on where they left off?

In the beginning I thought this was going to be just like any other rock star romance, but I was pleasantly taken by surprise that this was so much more than that. Oh my, Kane Exeter was just to die for! The dirty talking devilously gorgeous male was hotter than hot! Piercings, tattoos and that amazing physique! Damn!!! And Damn again!!! He was just so much more than just a book boyfriend!! But, the heroine was where I down-graded my 5 star read to a 4 star one. She just got on my nerves after awhile. I just couldn't give it 5 stars based on how annoying she got to me as the book moved along. In the end, though, she comes around. I guess I could see her unwillingness to commit given the heartache that was present.

There was definitely a lot of angst in this one. But, there was some pretty awesome family dynamics too. A good and loyal friend that stood by when the going got really tough to boot. The drama was pretty intense also with a jilted ex. He really does her some embarrassing moments. And, in a way she deserves it. But, not to that extreme. I felt sorry for her in that respect.

The author just wrote one deep romance. It does have some bitterly sweet moments also. And, some comical times too. I've read a couple of Ms. Shandwick's books, and she definitely knows how to write a rockstar's magnitude. His sharpness and strength are apparent within. So, I'm looking forward to reading more from this author. Kane Exeter was one passionate character! It will be a long time before I forget about him. So sorry to see his story end...

And, glory to be, how about that delicious cover??? Wow!!!

Missing Beats is the first book I've read by K.L Shandwick and it certainly won't be my last, I was hooked from the start and couldn't put it down. Packed with awesome characters and with a story full of love, regret and sex so hot I'm suprised my Kindle didn't burst into flames, there was nothing Missing Beats did not have.

Kade is a rock god, he's sexy as sin and can have any woman he wants. He and Josie knew each other growing up, but lost touch. Jo is a great female lead, she is strong, independant and feisty. When Kane walks back into her life after twelve years, he turns it upside down. I love the journey that K.L Shandwick takes these two on, and she really puts them through the emotional wringer. This is a great read and I would definitely recommend it.

I received an ARC of Missing Beats in exchange for an honest review.

K.L. Has done it again! I don't think I've given any of her books less then a 5 star review! And the same with this book as well! Amazingly written, awesome story line and a love that's out of this world!
Josie is a stubborn as heck woman who carries her worries like no other but her strength is just one amazing part of her!
Kane is a sexy as sin rock god that stars in every woman's dreams, even Josie's! They've known each other since they were little kids, but lost touch over the year and once Kane walks back into Josie's life, well her world is flipped on its side!
Funny, exciting, heartbreaking and amazing is just a few words to describe this story!

If you like a hot, sexy, rock god story, then this is the one for you. KL Shandwick has done it again!
I thought I thought I had sussed out where this standalone story was going; don’t get me wrong it was a great start, but I thought I could see where it was going, but boy was I wrong. This story has it all, love, hate, regret, damn hot sex and two fantastic characters to boot.
I loved Jo. She is an independent woman who can stand on her own two feet. She doesn’t take risks and doesn’t want to. She has known Kade since they were children, but hasn’t seen him for twelve years. Then he turns up back in her life and throws everything into confusion. Kade Exeter is sexy and he knows it, he is a rock god; but he loves Jo. I loved the interaction between these two, they have all the feels and all the angst.
This is a great emotional read; I cried, I laughed, I got hot under the collar…all in all a great read and one I would recommend.

Have you ever read a book by a new author, with no expectations and been blown out of the park. This was one of those moments for me! Yes this is a rock romance but it is sooo much more! This book has an awesome storyline, you’ll fall in love with the hero and love the heroine as she is one hell of a stubborn fighter.

They met as young kids in Germany where their fathers were stationed. Jo and Kane were best friends, never lied to one another, shared everything and left broken hearted when they returned to America. With distance keeping them apart they stayed in contact by letters. They did see each other when Kane’s father died but wouldn’t see each other for twelve years. Jo was devastated when Kane stopped writing to her. Then out of the blue he pays her a visit, he’s not the same Kane she knew though. He is the singer of a rock band and has the reputation as a playboy. Jo’s boyfriend is away and not happy that her old friend has re-entered her life. He pushes her into Kane’s arms. It it doesn’t take her long to regret her night with sexy, pierced Kane. She chooses the safety of Elliot because she knows what to expect and there are no surprises. Ah...that’s in a perfect world but things never go to plan. I’ve set the scene now you need to read this book to find out their story. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

** Review by Kylie from Bloggers From Down Under **

If it’s a gorgeously written, tug at your heart strings kind of stand alone you’re after, look no further than this little gem.

There were once two Army kids who were inseparable. Kane and Jo did everything together, and shared their hopes and dreams for the future. They had always thought that they would be in each other’s lives, that is until life got in the way. They soon lose touch, besides the occasional letter or phone call.

Life is pretty quiet for Jo. She works at her fathers company and has just started dating Elliott, a sensible down to earth man.

Kane, on the other hand, is the lead singer of an up and coming band, who’s popularity is about to go through the roof.

But things are about to change, for both Jo and Kane, when in the spur of the moment, Kane decides to pay Jo a visit.

Get ready for fireworks, a hot “between the sheets” story with it’s fair share of ups and downs.

And just when everything seems like it just may work itself out, life throws a spanner in the works that will have every bodies life turned upside down.

An enjoyable read that I read from cover to cover in one sitting.

I've met K.L Shandwick at previous signings, we've chatted covers, Gibson guitars, books and her husbands body and she is a wonderful person, all that but I'd never read her books, so I was excited when an ARC of Missing Beats landed on my Kindle. It's a standalone rocker book, which is not one of my "go to" genres, I usually put them off as I find them quite same old same old, lead singer book 1, bass guitarist book 2, drummer book 3, manager book 4, you get the idea, but boy can K.L write a cracking book! it has everything, great solid characters that you sink your teeth into and sex scenes between Kade and Jo that left me blushing. I loved their tale and K.L Shandwick's writing style.... skips off to one-click more

Does anyone write a book quite like KL Shandwick when it come to rock and romance? I am beginning to think not. This book has just about everything in it: we have a strong female lead, Jo, and the sexy as heck rock star, Kane, - two kids that knew grew up together over seas on the army base. But as time moved forward and their father’s careers moved them apart, they lost touch. But what happens when Kane suddenly reappears in Jo’s life is what it’s all about. The storyline is very well written with times of love, hurt, happy, sad and of course romance. I don’t do spoilers so I will simply say this is a wonderful sexy story that you don’t want to miss. My hats off to Ms. Shandwick for once again delivering a book that is touching and leaves you with a special feeling knowing you have just read a truly wonderful book.

I enjoyed this book, I really did. The story was great the characters were on point and it kept hooked until the very end.

Jo frustrated me a lot though. I kind of understood her reservations but overall she was down right frustrating. Kane was nothing but truthful to her about everything and yet she still didn't believe what he was telling her.

Although she frustrated me I did think that what she went through in the later stages of the book took guts and she was strong.

And KL, you made me cry. Again!! This is the second book you have made me cry at!!!

Overall a very good read with a seriously hot hero and off the charts chemistry. A story of unconditional love and growing.

Right, so here is why I gave it 2 stars and it's because of the lead female character Jo. Oh my god!!! She is soooo annoying, insecure, spoiled, bratty , ugh!! Grow up already! Her behaviour was of a 2 year old instead of a 22 year old independent girl. She was always feeling sorry for herself and doubting poor Kane , who by the way couldn't do enough for her or to prove to her how much he loved her. I have read other books by this author but if the next lead female is like Jo i might skip reading it.

Ho amato l’epilogo esattamente come il prologo mi aveva conquistata all’inizio lettura.

Perchè come dice Vasco…

I have wanted to read Missing Beats for such a long time and I am now kicking myself for not doing so sooner! This second chance romance will have you reaching for the tissues of that I’m certain. Having read many of Ms. Shandwick’s stories previously, I know this author has a tendency to put her characters through the wringer. There are some emotional scenes in this story, one or two mirrored my own personal experiences which of course brought back a multitude of memories and emotions.

You are going to love Kane Exeter, he is everything you’d expect a rock star to be - especially in public. However, away from the spotlight I saw a different side to him that I absolutely fell in love with.

Josie Carmichael may have a special bond with Kane but her life now couldn’t be more different to his, which causes them some problems. For such a young lady, she goes through so much in this story and I understood the reasons for her actions. I thought she was so strong choosing to protect those that she loves over having their help and support when she needed them most.

I loved witnessing Kane and Josie’s relationship. When things are good between them their interactions are easy and fun. The connection that they have had since an early age never wavered and I hoped that they could find a way to follow their hearts and be together.

I actually read this book throughout much of the night, wanting to discover what happens between the pair of them. My only niggle is that the issues that Jo had with accepting a future with Kane felt repeated, and yet I do appreciate that this was something massive for her to overcome.

Missing Beats is another great story from an author who I absolutely love reading. I award this novel 4 stars and look forward to devouring my next K.L. Shandwick book in the very near future.

I almost hate to start off with this, but it needs to be said. I've read another book by this author, but I didn't like it. Nothing wrong with it. Maybe it was ME. Maybe I'd had a bad day who knows! My purpose in saying all that is that sometimes you find an author that maybe you should give a second chance at. Missing Beats is that for me.
Within just a few pages I was sucked in. Kane really cracked me up with his whole "Rock Star" thing he's got going on and Jo. Oh yeah, she's something. She may be the ONLY one that could have EVER tamed Kane.
The one thing I liked best about this story is that, THIS story has allot of different elements about. And I real ALLOT of Rock Star books! This one has allot of difference to it that I thoroughly enjoyed.
So...next time you say maybe this author isnt for me ... take another chance.

Kane and Josie (or Jo, just to Kane) have known each other since their childhoods and have been the best of friends.

Slipping in and out of each others lives though has taken its toll on their relationship until Kane, contacts Jo when touring with his rockband locally.

With Jo in a new relationship can it stand the test of time or are her longterm feelings for Kane too much?

With a lot on stake and a rollercoaster of emotions Jo cant commit and takes control no matter the situation ahead and how she feels currently, how will Kane take this? What surprises are ahead for these two? Can Jo and Kane beat the odds?

Bloody amazing

This is the first book I have read by K. L, but it won't be the last. Wow what an emotional journey Jo and Kane go through. You instantly feel their deep connection. The sexual banter and sexual chemistry is off the charts. Loved their journey. Can't wait to read more for K. L

Absolutly loved KANE 🥰😍 but Josephine was a bit of a let down … stubborn as hell and did not open up her eyes most of the time in order to really see Kane for who he really is. And she was sooooo certain it was her ex bf and not Kane who was her b*** ****y ! 🧐

***4.5 Stars!!***

I'm a sucker for Rock stars and second chances... this book has both!

Have to admit though, its nothing like I expected from a rock star sexy as hell kinda guy! Kane isn't your typical rock star which was an added bonus, different too.... Gonna fan myself down!!! Woo!!

Josie and Kane were childhood friends, connected by their father's being stationed in Germany army base camp, obviously life throws a curveball having to go back to their hometowns.... I'll leave it there as I don't post spoilers :)
I can say that I just love the way this story just tugged all my emotions, I mean ALL!!! Love that!

This Author has done a pretty good job, being able to connect with Josie & Kane on so many levels!

I could not stand this..never in my many years of reading have I ever wanted to take a character and slam her into a wall, repeatedly! I could not stand Josie and it got to the point that I wanted to either stop reading - which I didn't, or throw my kindle..which would not have been good because of all of the books I have to read. I swear I wanted to throttle her so many times...she got on my last nerve so many times that I thought I would explode.

So what does this say about the book and the author? Great job K.L. Shandwick. To be able to elicit such emotion from a reader is a true talent. I have heard actors say that the greatest compliment they get from fans is when they are told that they hate them because of a particular movie they were in. Same can be said for the characters that authors write.

Despite the fact that I could not stand Josie, these characters were so very well defined and complex in nature. The storyline was entertaining, aggravating, heartbreaking, suspensful, and so full of love. It was so very well written that it added to the displeasure I got from Josie's character. Kane was hot as all get out and I swear he had the patience of a saint and his love for Josie was so apparent, except to her.

All in all, even though Josie drove me up a wall, I really did enjoy this book. It's one hell of a ride!

I have read all of KL Shandwick's books. I get excited when there is a new release coming out! I have loved all of her stories and her character's.

Missing Beats is an incredible touching story. Josie and Kane met when they were six years old. They became best friends. They both come from a military family. It was an emotional time for them, having to say goodbye to your best friend. They lost touch over the years but never once forgot about each other.

Kane is now a famous singer in a rock band. He is doing a show in Josie's home town. Kane reaches out to her after not seeing her for twelve years. Josie is excited but also nervous to reconnect with him. Kane and Josie go on an emotional journey and both of their lives are forever changed.

I loved this emotionally charged story. I admired Josie for her strength, being independent, stubborn and a loving woman. Kane is a sexy rock star with a good heart. He knows what he wants and goes after it. I loved how Kane got under her skin and melted her reserve.

She kept trying to build that wall up but he kept knocking it down. Kane was so loving and patient with her. Their chemistry was off the charts. Thanks for sharing them. I loved it! I look forward to watching this book soar up the charts and for the next release.

K L Shandwick has done it again ... I just love her books. Of course my favorite books are about rock stars and she sure knows how to write about them.

Josie and Kane were childhood best friends when their fathers were stationed in Germany together. When their families returned to the States, they were separated and they lost all touch. 12 years later Kane contacts Jo and turns her world upside down. Kane is the lead singer in an up and coming rock band, while Josie works for her father's security firm. Kane only does one night stands ... and lots of them! And Josie is 6 weeks into a new relationship. They soon find out that the love they had for each other when they were children is nothing compared to the love they feel for each other now. But their journey is full of ups and downs with lots of twists and turns ... you don't want to miss it!

The book is from Josie POV (at least until the epilogue) ... and it would have been nice to know some of Kane's reasons behind his actions from his POV.

I was graciously provided with an ARC by the author in exchange for a honest review.

Good!

After reading Ready For Flynn, I was looking forward to a new book by KL Shandwick. This book certainly didn't disappoint. I think I would go as far as saying this is the best book I've read by this author, so far. I loved Jo and Kane. I will admit I have laughed with Kane's attitude and words throughout this book, but I have also felt his pain and emotions when the time came.
What I liked about this book is, although it is a rock star romance, it had some twists and turns in there that I never seen coming. That kept me page turning until the last word was read.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that loves romance.
Well done, KL Shandwick! Good luck with the new release.

First let me start by saying WOW, that cover! Who wouldn't be intrigued by what's inside. Once you start you will be hooked on this book and will enjoy every second.

Jo and Kane have had a special bond since childhood, but when Kane turns up out of the blue years after they have last seen each other, Jo's world is rocked. All her old feeling come back and now their are both adults, them feelings have quadrupled! Can Jo and Kane overcome the obstacles that are about to be thrown in their way and have a second chance of happiness together again?

Missing Beats is a standalone and yet another amazing 5 star read from K. L. Shandwick.
