Second chances and OW drama.

So not happening to me. Going to skip but still love Jordan Silver's books. Maybe her next book will have a true alpha in it. One that is all about his girl and NOT A CHEATING ASS.

PLEASE, enjoy if that kind of thing doesn't bother you.
For me, it's a big NOT HAPPENING!
So I say

Btw I read until he cheated on her to make sure of my facts before I wrote this review. So I am changing it from Skipping to DNF.

upon reflection and revisit, I had to knock this down to 2 stars because it always disappoints even if I don't regret reading it. ...I know that makes no sense ; )

Nick the foolish boy, Shelly the long suffering, Dee the dead b*tch.
I had to think about this one for a day before rating. 3.5 stars rounded up because even though it has many flaws, the feelings between Nick and Shelly were quite honest.
The angst between Nick and Shelly remind me of KA's book, Creed, which I DESPISED! But... where Creed remained a selfish coward in my eyes, Somehow JS managed to redeem Nick for me.
So way back in high school, Nick and Shelly were deeply in love but they would have dramatic arguments. During the fallout of one of these, Nick gets drunk and lets himself be seduced by Shelly's arch nemesis, Dee. Roll yer eyes 'cause of course he can't just schtup 'any other chick'... it's gotta be the one whose mother hates her mother. Anyways, of course Dee gets pregnant and holds the life of the child like a knife to Nick's throat. They marry and Shelly leaves town, friendless and bereft.
JS walks a fine line describing what those years were like for Nick without making the reader hate him more than they already do for being a cheater.
All this was great but I did cry enough for my nose to get stuffed up. I kinda wish we had gotten a bit more about Shelly's years and how much she loved her job. She comes across as kind of a sad sack (but still beautiful of course). It was too glossed over and it might have taken some more of the sting from Dee's part of the story. Dee who will never get her comeuppance because she is dead.
Some might say that was punishment enough... but I doubt most readers agree. Does her mother get her comeuppance?

Anyhow. Nick loved his kid; Brandon, and when the bad guys murder Brandon (and Dee too thank you!), he is out for revenge big time... for his kid. This however, isn't a very active part of the story, yet it takes up pages and pages and pages of it. The first 25% of the book is Nick on a soap box monologuing about the ills of the justice system and the righteousness of vigilantism. I skimmed a lot. Really felt like the author has an axe to grind.
Still, the reuniting of Nick and Shelly was nicely drawn. There's the usual cussing but not a much as some of her books, and there's the painful sounding rough sex with his ridiculously large d*ck. Cue eye roll...
By the second epilogue I did forgive Nick.
He obviously never forgot her or anything they had shared. He did keep tabs on her over the years even though he kept his distance.

Does he grovel? Actually he does,

Is this a safe read? Not really.

some quibbles

This author has a niche… trashy romance with OTT alpha cavemen packing 10inches that’re OBSESSED with their h’s. They typically will burn shit down before they allow ANYTHING to touch their ladyloves. She’s my go-to when I’m overwhelmed, grumpy, or in the need for some mindless smut… kinda like eating jellybeans. So, I was curious how she’d handle a second chance romance… turns out – not great.

The blurb sets this up, Nick and Shelly broke up when they were 17, and now years later his family is dead… and he’s looking to seek revenge for their murders and reclaim his lost love.
There were several things that didn’t work for me.

I can't believe this author wrote about a cheating hero :(

That being said, I won't begrudge an author horribly for stepping out of her comfort zone (even though I used to always go to this author to feel good about how much heroes love their heroines). Here, the hero cheats on the h drunkenly and marries the OW cause she gets pregnant ... then when they die, he goes to OW and demands they're back together.

You know in Jordan Silver books where the Hero is all forcing the heroine to be with them? Kinda weird right? Cause they just do what they're told. I never minded because the heroes are evidently OBSESSED with the heroines that I loved it! None of her other heroes would cheat! None! And they miss the heroines where they spend hours apart and become depressed etc when they're not together.

I think one of the worst things is the fact that despite going on a different direction, the author played it out the same as her other books.

13 years later after leaving the h, he comes back and demands they're together. It's like, if you're going to make us believe in a story, when you're going in a different direction then write a realistic aftermath!

What kind of heroine wouldn't even resist or make him suffer or even grovel? Not this one ...

I think the author is trying to branch out and try different approaches to get the H and h together... but they've been so not good.

I read another book (taking what he wants) where the H uses the h for sex as a revenge plot against her sister (who he was engaged to). And yeah I'm not even that bothered about the plot if it was properly executed. But the fact that the h didn't even question him. But when he humiliated the sister and took the h and married her she didn't even react.

We didn't even get the conversation between the h and H where she asks if "my sister hadn't messed up would you still be with me?" Nope.... nada ...

And in this book, essentially if the wife hadn't died he wouldn't have gotten back with the h...

He can talk all about loving the heroine the whole time, but being with the OW for 13 years, but I didn't think he truly loved her.

And no repercussions? I think that's what pissed me off the more. You're talking about such a deep sensitive topic, don't glaze over it and say ah it's all ok the hero came back and got the heroine again quickly not let's move on to the OTT alpha actions of JS's alpha men and show how obsessed he is with the h.

No. if he was truly that obsessed and inlove he wouldn't have left for 13 years or married OW... or even cheated for that matter lol (but again my main issue is how the things unfolded after the cheating)

I think I'm gonna move on to Alexa Riley to get my share of alpha men from now on...

The hero betrayed the heroine when they were younger & married the girl whom he had a one night stand with. Fast forward 12 yrs later, the hero's wife and son are killed & he gets his former girlfriend back. He just goes to her house one night and declares that she is coming home with him. What a jerk. He didnt do much groveling but just expected the heroine to fall back into his arms. And she did. I was actually rooting for the heroine to tell him to get lost. The epilogue was sweet but that's about it.

Is this a real story?

While reading (skimming) I was thinking that this wasn't meant to be real book, with a real plot, and real characters. The people who wrote the 5 star reviews with 2-3 sentences are either paid or family members. It was so unbelievable and over the top, that I laughed out loud, and I am pretty sure I wasn't meant to. They reconnect at 30% and it's the most laughable mess I have ever read. The characters have zero depth, and the heroine is like this blow up doll, with the personality of a blow up doll. He cheats, marries, loses his family, becomes a killer, then one day shows up and is all "You, me, forever" then carries her off cave man style, and she's like " I think I like this"...

If this is indicative of the author's writing, there is no surprise I don't read her books. This was just god awful.

Shocked that this author succumbed and wrote this kind of trope. Back then, before Alexa Riley & Jessa Kane, this was THE author for possessive, loyal, OTT alphas for me. And to have h remained celibate for 13 yrs for him too? While he was banging the wifey. Pathetic, dumb, and just a waste of a life. SMH

Reading Savage annoyed me greatly. Its not what I expect from Jordan Silver. JS heroes aren't weak; they don't slip up and hurt the heroine by having a drunken fling with another woman; JS heroines are celibate; they don't sex other men even while seperated from the hero.
I hated what I read. Hated it. For JS, I read cause she's my go to author for over the top heroes and faithful heroines and I was curious to see what the fuss was about from other JS readers. Ok I knew going in this book would be different cause I read the reviews. Damn it I tortured myself knowing this book would annoy me due to the actions of the hero and heroine.
Yes I'm still annoyed. Gonna give this 2 stars because I finished it and did like the epilogue but I'm still annoyed.

I’m not finished reading this book yet but I just couldn’t hold it in anymore. THIS STORY IS ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE!

40% of the book was all guilt and revenge and misery about the MMC’s poor choices and then the next 11% (so far) is the same character getting the FMC with ABSOLUTELY no effort!! He just drags her from her house to his one night, talking about “welcome home” and after the shortest most pointless “I’m sorry” that I’ve ever read they go and start banging. And to make it worse he goes psycho in the middle of drilling her and physically forces the name of her other lover out of her. HELLO!! You were married for 12 years to the OW you drunkenly knocked up one night! YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO ASK THAT QUESTION!

The MMC keeps thinking about all he deserves and what he wants and what is willing to do after all he has suffered and yes he feels deeply that the FMC suffered just as much as he did but what finally got me PO’d was the MMC thinking about the OW and his other child and his other life while banging away at the FMC but he stops himself from thinking about his murders. Yeah, that’s where he draws the line.

Wtf??!

I’m only 51% in but I absolutely hate this story. I literally don’t care how it turns out. I hate stories that are supposedly revolving around a moral code but really aren’t. The MMC didn’t cheat but on a break from his soul mate he knocks up OW. The MMC then proceeds to marry said OW for the kid. THIS IS NOT A MORAL HIGH GROUND. That kid is going to grow up with the wrong understanding of a relationship. Geez. I hate this troupe!!

Next the MMC after hurting his soul mate with his second sh!tty choice (the first being s e xing other girl) marries the OW (and I am wondering is this kid really his but I’ll see). The MMC then continues with his miserable life for the “kid”. Again NOT a moral high ground. The MMC has a martyr complex or something. Anyway when the unthinkable happens, the MMC then becomes a killing vigilante.

Soooo as a good cop he got his unwanted family killed but as a killing vigilante he doesn’t seem to think this will affect the FMC his soul mate at all.

Okay.

Nothing to like here. I will finish the story because I can’t move on if I don’t but I really don’t care what happens. I hate books about people actively making poor decisions and ruining their own lives all by themselves. The FMC so far is pathetic. The OW was also beyond pathetic, she was a rapist. And honestly the MMC was pathetic simp too. Good luck.

UPDATE

I’ve finished the book. It was ridiculous. No way this couple would have played out this easily for such a dark story. The HEA was also unbelievable. Honestly, don’t buy or read this sh!t.

Unfuckingbelievable!! And 1 star is being generous!!

I've tried in the past to read JS books but she's definitely not for me. I find her heroes insecure, controlling arseholes and their women are just...pathetic.

No judgement on those who love her work, though. I just wish I could see what others do.

Oh well...off to find something else now :)

No, cheating is NOT Fucking okay. Nor is it an "oops sorry mistake" It's a massive betrayal and the piece of shit cheater should be held accountable for his cheating! And DUMPED. End of story.

That is how you deal with cheaters. Not immediately forgive the fucker because the poor dear made a "drunken" mistake. Insert Massive eye roll. Give me a fucking break. No wonder they think they can cheat and still get the girl, because there are sad sacks out there that let them get away with it.

Pathetic.

Not one of my Jordan Silver faves

I almost put this book in my DNF shelf 20% into the story, which would've been a first for one of Ms. Silver's books. I didn't like that Nick basically cheated on his girl, Shelly, with another woman, Dee, the back of his car because he was drunk and upset about an argument that he and Shelly had. And I couldn't resign myself to believe that Nick would stay with Dee for 13 years after he got her pregnant. There were many ways he could've played his mistake, but to marry her and make a family out of some sense of honor? I think it was worse for the poor kid be cause his parents didn't love each other...at least on Nick's side (apparently Dee did and did everything she could to trap Nick). This just seemed a bit thin to me.

Thirteen years ago, Nick Sheridan lost and gained everything. The girl he knew was his happily ever after, he betrayed in a bad moment and he created a son with another woman. Doing right by his son he married and tried to make a life with a woman he didn't love. When he loses his family in an act of revenge Nick makes a change in his life that will never trace back to him. Nick also goes after Shelly, the girl that got away and he is not letting her go this time.

Great book, Nick is in love with Shelly. I liked that you got both sides of what happened. Shelly was terrific, she didn't lose herself in being what Nick needed. Another great Jordan Silver book.

So, I know I put no cheating and some reviews said there was. However, if you read the story, you'll see that she broke up with him before leaving and she was gone a few weeks before he had a drunk night and slept with someone. So, my opinion, no cheating. I liked it. Not as steamy as some of her stories, but still good. https://storiesinreview971130128.word...

Another great read.

I'm a sucker for first love stories and this hit it out of the park. One mistake that can change your life and the ability of the characters to forgive and move forward made this more than your typical first love second chance story. It has everything I have come to expect from this author and more. Once again, I couldn't put it down and read it in one sitting. Now I will impatiently wait for her next installment.

Savage

This is one of my new Favs from Jordan. I love how she still gave us the possessive alpha who has been to hell and back which has turned him into the Savage. And Michelle the betrayed first love who can't help still holding some hope out that she will still get a chance at everlasting love.
When tragedy strikes Nick and he loses his family to a home explosion that was meant for him. He becomes Savage and exacts his revenge on those who took his son from him. Another part of his plan is to get Shelly back, the first and only woman who has held his heart. He knows that he has 13 years to make up for ands he knows that he will do whatever it takes to have her back. When Nick goes to get Shelly she knows that she should fight him more on it but she just can't help how safe and protected she feels when around him.
Nick knows that he will only get one chance to make things right so he tries to give Shelly all of the dreams that they had talked about when they were young. And they reignite they're love.
As he gets his revenge for his son he knows that he will never let the Savage part of his life touch Shelly. And her light helps heal the whole in his heart that the loss of his son created.
Love this story!!

Second chance because of cheating is NOT MY THING so I'll pass. Yup. Definitely.

Nope. I hate everything about this concept. Call me I hold the grudge for a long time I don't care. But if you have argument with your girlfriend and you mad with her, then you slept with another girl and the other girl got pregnant, then you done for me. DONE.
This book have absolute things that I hate so much.
1. Cheating hero
2. Pregnant other woman
3. Heroine wait for a verrrry long time for the hero to come back for her and basically save herself from another guy because, yeah, she can't forget the hero
4. The hero come back to her
5. Heroine forgive him so, yeah, so so much, easily, not to recall all the pains, all the wounds, all the heartbreaking past caused by the hero. Nope, she just forgive him. That's it. So simple.
so, before my blood pressure was raised because I read this not-for-me kind of plot, I better go.
Ciao!!

Ignore Police procedure and you may get through it

The beginning part of the book was like chewing 2 day old gum. Boring. Lamentations for a woman he didn't love and a son he adored all pushed to the back burner while he goes vigilante and becomes John Holmes. Hmmm..a little over the top? Yet, if it wasn't it would not be Silver's style. Rare dark moments aside, I kept waiting for the big show down. I got a sentence. "I told you I'd get you...etc". I am left feeling like I was at prom night in Johnny Talucci's back seat. The beginning was dry and the big finish left me saying, "That's all?"

Loved this book

Ladies prepare yourselves.
Nick was a man that had basically messed up. He had hurt the one he loved the most. But did the right thing even if it tore out his heart. Then the unthinkable happened he lost his son and became The Savage. He would get his revenge but he would also get his heart back.
Shelly was a woman that had everything stolen from her by one drunken night(though I wonder if she did not roofie his drink) and it almost destroyed her. After all these years could she let him back in??? Read and find out you will not be disappointed.
