Three things:

1. Ikoma and his unit are hilarious. I love them. They made me laugh so much. XD
2. The best part of this entire volume has to be the last two chapters when Hyuse goes from C-rank to B-rank in a single day and the B-rank agents are so impressed some of them are challenging him. He even goes up against Tachikawa of all people and gets one win out of six, which is impressive (tbh, I expected him to get more wins but I forgot he has only 16 years to Tachikawa's 20 and plus, Tachikawa is the top Attacker and Hyuse is rusty with the sword. So the result makes complete sense).
3. The panel with Tamakoma Second (newest member included) in their uniforms! Best.Team.Ever.

Suffice to say, I am Hyped™️ for the next volume when Hyuse is officially part of Tamakoma Second. =)

I would give this one 100 stars if I could. So many awesome moments!
Chika tricking her enemy and then actually starting to fight back, Osamu being an amazing (and adorable Captain) and protecting his little sniper (so cute 😍), Yuma’s very cool fighting techniques with scorpion, and then of course Hyuse finally joining Tamakoma-2!
I’m so proud of my babies!!!!

Also, I love both the new characters, Ikoma and Oji. Especially Ikoma.

World Trigger 18 is bittersweet - it's the last of World Trigger manga for now since author Daisuke Ashihara is taking a sabbatical due to health reasons. The story nicely completes the rank wars while also giving us a great preview of Hyuse in action. It ends on a great note and all we can do now is wait and hope Ashihara is able to take up the series again sooner rather than later.

Story: The next rank war battle begins! Tamakoma 2 is facing two very unique teams: Ikoma and their adhoc, seat of the pants reactionary style to the overplanners in Oji. It will be a tough battle for Osamu - Oji has planned the war as carefully as Tamakoma 2; neither know what Ikoma will do to throw off those plans! Hyuse, meanwhile, is about to get to B-rank in one day, much to the chagrin of the useless 3 B rankers he defeats!

As with all the rank war battles, Ashihara carefully plots them out so that they are all unique and distinct. In this case Oji planning very carefully to take out Tamakoma and Osamu first so he can't set up the wires. But Osamu is determined not to make the same mistake as the last rank war battle and thinks on his feet much better. Osamu knows Oji's advantage is their speed - and Yuma has plans for Oji himself. But they all need to fear Ikoma's terrifying whirlwind kogetsu strike.

What makes World Trigger so much fun to read are the great personalities and moments of sweet humor. From Oji's silly renaming of the enemy teams (e.g., Kuga becomes Cougar and one of Ikoma's team becomes a head of broccoli) to Ikoma coming up to Arashiyama and poking him in the cheek with a twinkling star to get his attention. There are so many wonderful little moments - no panel is ever a throw away. One of my great pleasures is rereading and seeing all the little things I missed each volume.

Ikoma was an interesting squad to translate - they have a strong Kansai dialect, which can sound very 'hick' in American English terms. Viz did a great job of showing the boys' obliviousness without making look like complete rubes. There was just the right amount of dropped "g's at the end of verbs to give the right tic to Ikoma Squad's members. And well, I had to love how Ashihara drew their exuberance.

Of course, the upcoming next rank war battle should be great - Hyuse earned his place in Tamakoma and he's now ready to be their second ace. Now I wonder if anyone is ever going to figure out that Tamakoma 2 is made up of two Neighbors.

The volume ends with the return of Tamakoma's older engineers - Rindo's daughter and a neighbor. When we finally get more chapters again, I look forward to seeing how that will affect the story. Included extras are team rooms of Ikoma and Oji, popularity polls, and some seasonal sketches. Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.

This is one of my favourite parts of the series, though I admittedly wouldn't recommend this to anyone who has missed ANY of the prior books and/or hasn't seen the anime, since it's miserably difficult to just jump into this late in the story. Even missing one book, where Osamu learns how to make the wires (and why), it's confusing how that one trick changes a lot of their strategy. In fact, I haven't at this point in time read 14-17, because I currently acquire books based on what I find in the store/free library, and those never came up, but I know what's happening since I've caught up with the anime.

What I like in this volume:
- Ashihara's expansive World Trigger encyclopedia, including that he (or SOMEBODY) thought out things like the strategy room for each squad and in what condition they would be in based on the team composition
- Chika has a Tsuyu-themed icon, haha

What I don't like:
- typo in the popularity ranking with two 6th places (that aren't ties)
- ...actually, that's it!

This series is so good! Too bad it's also so SLOW that not a lot has happened in 18 volumes, haha... I would definitely like a collection of the anime episodes, though!

It's Tamakoma-2 vs. Oji Squad vs. Ikoma Squad (#3 B-Rank).
Tamakoma's new tricks are only going to give them the edge for a little while. And with the deal made with Commander Kido for Hyuse, only the top 2 B-Rank squads will get to go on the away mission. So Tamakoma has to claw their way up and beat Kageura Squad or Ninomiya Squad in terms of points if they want to go.

Meanwhile, Hyuse got the okay to join Tamakoma-2 but has to fight his way up through C-Rank and earn his spot in B-Rank in order to join the squad.

Also, there's a My Hero Academia reference in this one. Confirmed!

Solid story

I absolutely love the complexity of the world trigger universe. I hope to see many more issues in the future!
