The continuing saga of a band of military survivors trying to survive in a world destroyed by unknown creatures.
Having made it to Portland, they are tasked to help bring children and the ill back to the safety of camp Bravo, while the mystery of what happened to the world grows deeper.
After such an incredible, fast paced start in books 1 and 2, I'm disappointed to have found that this book wasn't as good as the others. The fact that there were many times when I could simply put down the book with no real draw to get back to it asap was a big part of the difference. I'll still be checking out the next book right away in hopes it gets back to the same level of amazing storytelling I found in the first two books.
I just couldnt read any more. I loved the story line but the grammatical and spelling errors were making me coo-coo. I kept editing the book as I read and in so doing I couldn't enjoy it. How old is the author, 12? That might be an insult to 12 year olds. The constant repetition of he said or she said. Other words can paint a richer picture. Gasped, grunted, mumbled, cried, explained, yelled, retorted, ruminated, uttered, declared, observed, etc.

Just when the author resolves one problem he introduces another to lead you own. Reminds me of my husband saying that they went to the movies each week to see how one cliff hanger turns out and getting the next cliff hanger. Yes, this one needs more editing too.
These guys can't catch a break! I applaud the author's ability to write such rich characters - the reader can't help but like them (or hate them) and hope they can live thru every book (or die quickly!) Please keep writing, and I'll keep reading.
Okay it keeps getting better . You want to keep reading to find out what is the mystery that popping as Cal is acting strangely. So glad that the next book is ready to be read. Can't go to sleep yet.
I really love the story in this series. It’s a nice change from the usual zombie apocalypse. Characters could use some fleshing out, but that’s happening slowly as the series progresses. One or two things are overlooked - just exactly how are they feeding over 10 million people for example, but that’s forgivable.
What isn’t forgivable tho’ is the complete lack of editing. Spelling, grammar, context- dreadful. Please get this series edited as it is spoiling what could be a stand out story. If I hadn’t already purchased the series of 8 books in one volume I wouldn’t buy any more!
Wow! I just finished Mutant which is the 3rd book in the Cascade series by Phil Matey and I am hooked. I was home sick today and devoured all three books and am now saddened to have to leave his world until book four comes out. This series is a different twist to the ordinary apocalyptic genre. It is a refreshing and original idea and Mr. Maxey makes it work! The characters are well written and easy to become attached too. The reason for the mutation of the animals and insects of our world has not yet been given, but the author has laid some fantastic hints and I cannot wait to find out. If you enjoy apocalyptic fiction and science fiction get the first book and take a trip into a wonderfully written series! Please hurry up book 4!
I have read all 3 ebooks, they are great stories. They kept my interest in each ebook. I enjoy the backstory on the characters, the general story is moving right along and there is enough mystery to keep the readers coming back. I thought it was a trio of ebooks. I must of misunderstood, I've finished the 3 and the story is far from over. I will wait to see what comes next. The editing needs help but most books need help there.
Despite the editing issues I enjoyed this book & will read the next one. I like most of the characters & am enjoying their development. The story is not like any others I have read with new ideas about the end of days.
