This was a quick one but a good way to introduce the topic to elementary age students. It had plenty of photos to capture the imagination and references for more in-depth reading.

This introduction to the orphan trains shares snippets of stories of children who actually rode the trains. There are also wonderful photos which help to tell the story. I liked how the author gave suggestions for further projects so students could learn more. A good companion to THE TRAIN TO SOMEWHERE by Eve Bunting.

Book on immigrants, orphans, orphanages and the orphan trains. It is a good introduction for elementary aged students, with lots of pictures to help explain the text. But probably not detailed enough to give the whole experience justice.
