Red Team Alpha. An elite military unit. Twenty highly-trained veteran warriors, Mars’ best. They are ready to face whatever dangers threaten the Confederation. They are capable, dedicated, armed with the best technology Mars has to offer. And they don’t exist, at least not officially.

Now the team will be called upon to face its greatest test. On a planet in a newly-discovered system there is a mysterious wreck, the remains of an ancient ship. The discovery is a momentous one, first contact and proof that mankind is not alone in the universe.

It is a job for the Team, but even these crack soldiers will be tested to the limit of their abilities as they uncover the dark horror within, a technological nightmare that threatens the very future of humanity. The soldiers of Alpha will fight, ignoring the odds as usual, but this time they will be caught between two enemies.

For they are not the only ones who know about the ruins. Even now, the notorious Gavin Stark and his Alliance Intelligence forces are on the move, seeking to seize the ancient vessel and the priceless technology within for their own purposes. And they are ready to do whatever is necessary to gain the priceless ship…including wiping out Red Team Alpha completely.

This is a great standalone but also predates the Crimson Worlds series I love so much.

When the mission parameters call for the best of the best to go in, that is when you send Red Team Alpha. They go not for glory, because there are no public parades for The Alphas. They go not for the money, for these are not mercs. Red Team Alpha do it because they are the epitome of true patriots who make the drops behind the scenes, making sure the worlds are safe for mankind. When a crashed ship is found on an unexplored system, possibly creating a First Contact situation, whom better to send in than Red Team Alpha? Whether to negotiate with a newly discovered race or bring the firepower to bear to protect humanities interests, these are the troops you want watching our backs.

Masterful!

Once again, Jay Allen has turned out an amazing story. He paints a vivid picture of what it would be like to be a member of Red Team Alpha facing unimaginable odds and relying on your band of brothers (and sisters) to get the mission accomplished. That part of the story is universal and could take place in any era of human history with weapons and uniforms appropriate for the time. Of course, putting it in another solar system with an alien spaceship as part of the story only makes it better.

Gritty realistic reading

Jay Allan’s (and every other adventure Sci FIU author) challenge is to entertain within parameters that allow temporary disbelief while dealing with shortcuts in logic and complexity. Maybe an AÍ still surviving after a few hundred years probably is a more complex thinker than portrayed to meet the book’s action line but no one can easily match Jay’s combat dynamism. Always a good lighter read one never regrets. Can and is addictive.

Wonderful Military Sci-Fi

I've had the Crimson Worlds books recommended to me on Kindle Unlimited several times, and finally picked this book up recently to give it a chance. I was really pleasantly surprised.
Military science fiction can be really hit or miss for me, but the characters and setting really pulled me in to this one.
I look forward to reading more of Jay Allan's books

Wonderful Military Space Opera

Allan, who has so many good space opera novels, has done a wonderful job with "Red Team Alpha". The story is tight, that of a single fire team on a single mission, and ties in well with Allan's other space opera tales. The special operations fire team faces advanced alien tech, foreign human enemies and their own human limitations. The action is constant, wearing down the team (and keeping the reader's attention).

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: AS MILITARY SPACE OPERA!

I really enjoyed this book. The characters came off the page and I felt like I understood each one. The tactical and battle descriptions were vivid and realistic. I felt invested in the world and wanted to know what would happen next. I've not read a lot of military sci-fi but after really this book, I might have to start.

Excellently written story centered around a group of highly trained operatives (except one) based out of Mars in Earth's distant future. If one needs to make a comparison, think of the Navy Seals. The action and suspense is there, characters well written, drama is constantly in your face, and the body count keeps stacking up. A very well written story/book.

Great book (Again)

It didn’t take but a few pages to realize I had read this book before, but as it usually happens, after you’ve read as many books as I have over the years, you have a tendency to forget the particulars of a story . This time I enjoyed the book as much as I did the first go around.

Masterful

Another superb book by Jay Allan. I am amazed how he deftly wove a prequel book that developed several established characters for the series so smoothly. Now we have how Vance got his start in Martian Intelligence and the insight to the beginning of the titanic struggle between these two. Thank you Jay for another solid writing!

In the tradition of Mr. Allan.

This is a well written story with well written Charles and a fast paced storyline. I would have loved to see more of the life of the main character.

Solid read

Battle excitement, hard men and women. Don't be expecting a happy ending. A foreboding prequel to later plot lines of battles to come.
