2023 reads, #19. I had been all gearing up today to write a devastatingly insulting review of this utterly worthless book, one of those quickie Kindle Unlimited wastes of time that takes exactly one blog article worth of useful information and then pads it and pads and pads it some more until it finally reaches 30,000 words and is just exactly long enough that it can be justifiably called a "book;" but then I realized I didn't have the energy or heart for it today, so let me just warn you that this is pointless trash and let's just leave it at that. Onward next to something actually worth my time, thank God.

If you want to self-publish a nonfiction book on Amazon and only care about making money and feel fine sending people hundreds of emails and bugging/begging them a million times to write you reviews or buy your books, then this is a good book for you to read. If you want to write a quality book, if you want to publish with a publisher, if you want to learn how to approach publishers/literary agents, which is what I was looking for, there is absolutely nothing mentioned here. Don’t waste your time.

This book (actually an extended blog with pictures and repetitions to make it to a word count acceptable for a book) is good for giving some tips on marketing strategies and basically nothing else. And obviously, marketing comes after writing and finishing the book. So again, nothing here to learn about the process of getting your book written with quality and care and learning how to find publishers to accept it.

Overly verbose and overly salesey for how shallow the content is. I picked this one up on a whim on Audible and ended up returning it without finishing it and grabbing a couple other books on the subject instead. It gets 2 stars instead of 1 because there's nothing I found wrong or objectionable about the info that was there, and I'm sure it will help some people who don't have any project planning experience.

If you have always thought about being a writer, this might not be the worst book to read. However, I do believe there is so much more to writing than what Chandler Bolt presents here. While he provides some good marketing information near the end of the book, overall, I would say pass on this one.

If you want to be a writer, first: read. Read a lot. Read in the genre you want to write. Read outside the genre you want to write. Read your favorite kinds of books. Read one or two books from a genre you don't like much. This will help you get a taste of what is already out there.

Second, read books on writing. Not on publishing, but books on writing. Read through books put out by Writer's Digest on crafting a story (if you're writing fiction or creative non-fiction), read writing magazines, and find meaningful podcasts on writing like Writing Excuses.

Third, practice. Stephen King has often been quoted as saying that until you've written a million words, you won't be ready to share your writing with anyone. So practice. Write, write, write, and write some more.

Spend time on your craft. I know that this advice is probably not what people who are interested in Chandler Bolt's book are looking for necessarily, but this is the progressive dinner, not a microwave meal. So keep working at it, take what you can from Bolt's book if you read it, and then go read other books on the actual craft of writing.

I've purchased books less informative and jam-packed with value than Published. Bolt is an exceptional guide through the world of self-publishing, and quite convincing that self-publishing is the way to go - which is saying something from someone who was previously hard-core set on the traditional publishing method.

Reading Published has inspired me to tackle the 90 day way, and to actually get the book I've been "writing" for years on paper and published. I do wish Published went more in depth on the how-to (interact) with various self-publishing methods; more technical information I suppose - but regardless I found Published to be a book to read and then re-read every time I am even considering publishing another book.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it to anyone who is even considering publishing a book - because if the abundance of information isn't enough to help you start on your journey, Bolt's encouraging demeanor probably is.

Disclaimer: I received this book for free in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

This book is mostly for non-fiction writers/authors, but it still had plenty of helpful tips that could be applied to fiction authors as well. It was also interesting to read Chandler's personal stories and anecdotes interspersed throughout. It made the writing personable & relatable.

It's great for authors without a platform and who want to self-publish on Amazon. Overall, I got some great takeaways to put into action for my next book.

90-day process to writing and marketing a book

This book, Published, highlights a 90-day process to writing and launching your book. That’s right, 90 days! The book offers numerous steps and tips to make the process easy and attainable for anyone who has dreamed of writing a book. Chandler Bolt, a college drop-out who hated writing in school, developed this method. His entire premise is if he can do it writing several best sellers, then anyone can. His writing style is approachable, practical, and understandable, even if it is a bit salesman-like at times. Each step of the publishing process is well-explained including a how to guide on marketing the book. What is also useful is that almost no matter where you are in the writing process of your book, you can easily jump in at any stage to use this process. The one part that is totally missing is the actual publishing process itself once it is either ready to print or publish as an ebook. If one creates an ebook to sell through Amazon as he strongly advocates, he totally fails to explain what is needed to do that key step, which is ironic considering the title. So I have knocked a star off for that key oversight. Despite what is missing, the rest of the book is useful, which I am personally putting to use already.

This is a great guide to the world of publishing - even if you never thought about writing a book. The material is mostly geared toward non-fiction books, but I would think similar principles would apply to fiction. Knowing friends in the publishing business - I can tell you that how the world works to promote books is right on track. There is a game in the promotions that go way beyond just writing a book. As one bestselling author told me, "Once you wrote the book - you are 10% done."

Overall the book is a sales pitch to his Self Publishing School - but he is 100% upfront about that so it does not bother me. The material is solid and the case is well made for the steps you need to publish a promote a book.

This book is really helpful to anyone that's even remotely interested in publishing a book. It covers almost every area - from the planning of the plot, to the post-publishing. It's full of helpful insights and anecdotes, and it can be very helpful to beginners in the writing and self-publishing field. No matter how experienced you are, I believe you'd still find something useful in this book.

I was really excited to read this book. I love learning about the craft of writing and the publishing industry, and the cover hooked me pretty easily (I'll give credit where it's due, because it was very well designed).

But after reading, what stood out to me most was how niche this book was. It was clearly targeted towards aspiring writers looking to write and self-publish their first (most likely non-fiction) book, particularly to aid in their business.

If this is you, then sure. Go ahead and read this book. There are some good points in it, especially about marketing your book. But otherwise, I'd say probably not. While the author makes a point of saying that his strategies will work for 70-90% of writers, I knew I wasn't one of them, and to be honest, I didn't feel like I gained much from it.

What stood out to me most about this book was a single sentence in which the author used the term PTSD lightly and entirely out of context. It's sadly not uncommon to see it, along with other mental illnesses/disorders such as OCD and Depression being so casually used in a way that is offensive to those who are affected by them, but it really bugged me and affected me whole view of the book.

So, if you fit into that bracket I mentioned above, then consider looking into this book, but otherwise, I wouldn't consider it to be a very beneficial craft book to members of the writing community.

Sometimes you run across a process that makes so much sense that you have to try it. This is the case with Chandler Bolt’s book, Published.: The Proven Path From Blank Page To Published Author. I had heard Bolt discuss his book publishing process on an Entrepreneurs on Fire podcast episode and immediately said to myself, “This is something I need to try.” As a result, I purchased the book. I will use the book writing process for my upcoming book and use the book marketing process for this book, Read to Succeed . Read more

It started off with such promise. It was clear and easy to read however this book actually had the reverse effect on me then I believe it was intended to. I am curious about writing a book and bought this and a few others to some a few things.

Unless you have an outline and rough draft and are ready to publish your book the step by step guide becomes very deterring and overwhelming. I never even thought about a soft launch with friends and family. I don’t want to ask someone at yoga class?!

I think the breakdown of what certain things are gonna cost is helpful like when it comes to hiring an editor or a cover designer but there’s so much more than that!!

I listened to the audiobook.

Has a lot of good information - but most of it isn't very helpful for new/part-time authors. Seems overwhelming to try to implement these suggestions on your own. Could be a good resource - but probably too complicated to really help me. (I mean...Seriously? One of his suggestions is to get booked as a guest on 50 podcasts? Oh...Okay!?!?)

I . . . did not like this. I have read many, many nonfiction books about writing, and none of them have been even similar to this. It's focused on nonfiction (he'll occasionally throw in nuggets about fiction, but barely), and only on selling lots and lots of books. His main recommendation are to harass your friends and family for reviews, and send lots of emails. I always naturally dislike any books that encourage you to pull a book out of "nothing" just for the sake of making money. I get it, you're trying to tell copies of this book. But it feels slimy and disingenuous.

This book reads as an advertisement for the author's self-publishing company. I looked up said self-publishing company, and it is criminally expensive. It’s essentially a vanity publisher disguised as “self publishing.” You’re paying Chandler Bolt for these “services” instead of having a trad pub company do it for free. There’s nothing “self” published about paying $7k-$30k(!!!!!) for this service.

For how much he craps on the trad pub industry, and says that self-publishing is a way to make more money in the long run, I'm a mildly horrified. This is one example quote:

"The only time it makes sense to traditionally publish is if you're a big name and can get a sizable advance. If you don't have an email list of 50k+ people or a large social media platform/audience, you won't get signed by a publisher. If you do, you won't get much of an advance."

In another section, he claims that even if you do get a trad pub advance, you'll be paying it back if you don't sell enough books. This is NOT true at any legitimate place. Sure, they have to earn your advance back before you get ADDITIONAL royalties, but no respectable publishing company is coming back for your advance. This is wrong, and I don't like the way Bolt presents this information. Again, it feels slimy. This is scamming people who simply do not know better.

First of all, the information he includes about trad pubbing is simply wrong. This is coming from someone who works for a publishing company. Of course Bolt wants you to self-publish, because he wants you to spend gobs of money on his self-publishing school.

It could've been a series of three blog posts for the same amount of content. I don't think I'm the target audience, because I simply know too much about book publishing and most of this was so rudimentary. I won't look at my notes for this book ever again, and I wish I would've skipped it. It seems like a blatant KU money grab in the hopes you'll buy his other products. When he's giving you all of his tricks, it just makes his own business all the more transparent. I was hoping to learn more about self-publishing, but this was just not the right resource. Onto the next one.

Chandler Bolt is a superior author and entrepreneur who has proven his success stories on YouTube, Webinar and Social Media, which has made him 6 bestsellers of books.

His writing techniques really work and get your mind moving forward for 15 minutes of writing and still move you forward fast. His strategies and goal setting have made me write my first book, which took me longer to do, but I finally got my first book on Amazon.com through KDP publishing, which is available on Amazon.

If anyone has plans to write a book! I recommend this book to get you motivated and started on a career of book writing and author status in no time.

Buy this book, read it and use it to push you to your own success story, which took me 17 months,2 weeks.2 days, 2 minutes and 17 seconds. My book is Digital Mindset: Making Time Count by Patrick W. Whalen - Author September 23rd,2021. https://lnkd.in/dAuezmNg

I have no doubt that this method (or these methods, as there are 4) will lead to success for some people. This said, there is the reliance on Amazon to be effective which does not suit me, as I am ethically opposed to buying or selling anything on Amazon. The day that Jeff Bezos decides to do something for the world with his fortune, to pay his workers the wages they deserve, and to offer them decent working conditions, I will be glad to use Amazon. Until then, even if it is when hell freezes over, I cannot use the methods in this book.

Chandler Bolt gives an excellent overall view of the self-publishing process. Obviously, he can't cover all the nuts and bolts in one book. That's why he has a Master Mind group and an online course that will set you back a few coins. I should know. I'm one of his students. The book will give you the basics if you want to try the process on your own. If you can write, then you can publish. Chandler is carving the path for you. If you get stuck on the marketing process, then his course will help you with that too.

Practical and makes sense

I like the way this book has practical things to DO and in an order that makes sense for the process as a whole, as well as tips for fiction/non-fiction throughout.

Having lots of ideas and being able to narrow it down to one AND complete it was pivotal for me to publish my book, so I know this advice and mindset change has worked for me.

If you're starting out, want a refresher or need to pick up where you left off, this is a great book to go to again and again.

This book is a great guide for quickly being able to write a book and have it published in 3 months. Chandler offers a step by step process from the initial writing stage all the way through marketing and having your book published. If you have ever thought about writing a book this is a great guide to achieving that goal.

Helpful book especially walking through how to launch a new book. Chandler takes you through each area of publishing a book step by step. He’s an advocate for self-publishing. It’s a quick read and if you’d like to write a book and clueless where to begin it’s a great inspirational read to get you motivated to just begin.

I gave this a read on the flight home and quickly burned through the book. Great info and tips for those that are having trouble getting started with writing, or getting stuck with writing. This book I believe focuses on non-fiction writing, but you can still apply some of the techniques to fictional writing. I would definitely recommend to those having trouble getting started writing.
