Some wounds are too deep to be seen and too malignant to heal.
Alora is dying and no one knows why. The unseen effects of Vindrake’s torture linger long after the physical wounds have healed. Damaged as she is, Alora must still use her gift to battle Vindrake’s evil, though she hastens her death by doing it.
Vindrake, deluded into believing his cause is holy, continues his quest to dominate Tenavae, this time attacking the very foundation of all knowledge, aided by a terrible new weapon, which falls into his hands. As some who are loyal to Vindrake infiltrate the ranks of Stone Clan, Kaevin’s life hangs in the balance.
But true love is expressed in the ultimate sacrifice—to lay down one’s life for a friend.
USA Today bestselling author Tamie Dearen has published more than twenty books, including The Best Girls Series and the Limitless Clean Billionaire Romance Series. Tamie believes real life is already full of enough heartache, so she gives her book-characters happily-ever-afters, no matter how difficult their paths.
Tamie Dearen lives in Texas with her incredibly romantic husband and two dogs. She hates dusting and exercising and loves anything musical or artistic. When she's not writing books, you might find her playing with her grandkids or drilling on someone's tooth.
I’ve really enjoyed these fantastical dips into the realm of Tenavae. They’re clean, the romance is sweet, and the premise is really unusual. Here in book three, the secret to Vindrake’s power is found, providing at last a means to destroy him. But that won’t prove easy. Maladorn Scroll features the same beloved characters, the same wonderful gifts and bonds of Tenavae, a new twist, and more of author Tamie Dearen’s own lovely gift of storytelling. Recommended for lovers of fantasy and light romance.
Each of the three books in the Alora series has kept me engaged in this wonderful story and wanting more. I can't wait for book 4 to come out and am already sad that it will be the last book.
The author has created characters that grow with each story. She introduces new characters when appropriate but doesn't forget about the characters that I have grown to love (or hate as in the case of the bad guys).
I am thrilled with the development in Alora and Kaevin's relationship in this story. So many other characters played important roles: Wesley, Beth, Jireo, Markaes, Uncle Charles and even Daegreth to name a few. I laughed a number of times regarding Dr. Sanders' increased role in the story. He has come a long way since his first appearance at the end of book 1.
Action continues to be very fast-paced with lots of danger and some deaths but they are not graphic in detail.
The soulmate bond is still vitally important in this book but Kaevin and Alora spent much of the book apart and Alora has learned to manage her power differently so there is less need for touching and kissing than in past books. However there are still a few sweet romantic scenes that remind the reader that Kaevin and Alora are still very much in love.
Sex: A few sweet kisses, nothing inappropriate Language: "bright" used in frustration a couple times Violence: several battles with injuries some of which are serious; several deaths; details are not graphic although blood and necessity for surgery, etc is mentioned Religion: God is discussed a couple times by various characters
The Maladorn Scroll is a five star book in my opinion! It is definitely worth reading this series, it gets better and more exciting with each book.
In this one we get to travel between Montana and Tenavae thanks to Alora and someone else. That someone is making portals and they need to figure out who it is and how they are doing it. Alora and her friends are in the fight of their lives throughout this book. I loved that the same characters have continued throughout the story and we get to learn more about them with each book. Vindrake is still his evil self causing havoc wherever he goes.
There is so much going on all the time with the characters. But at the same time the author does not overload the reader with too much information at one time, just enough for what's happening at the moment. If you thought the previous books were exciting, wait till you read this one. My heart was pounding with the suspense and action throughout. There is just enough clean romance to add to everything I love about this series.
The story will have you hooked from the first page to the last. I am not going to say anything more that happens because I don't want to give anything away. I will tell you that there are many twists and turns that I didn't see coming. The ending will leave you wanting more and with many questions left unanswered. The final words are a real shocker and we are left with a cliffhanger ending. I can't wait until the next book is available! This e-book was provided to me for review. This did not affect my review in any way.
There are a few things I find unforgivable in a book. Incorrect grammar leading to awkward sentence structure is at the top of the list I suggest Ms. Dearen learn how to correctly use the word "not." Another thing that annoys me is when the format is incorrect with inexplicable paragraph breaks. Spelling also bugs and I can see no excuse whatsoever for seeing "desserts" when the correct word was "deserts."
I found the relationship between the two main characters unbelievable. We are told they are soulmates but not shown it. Granted she is two years younger than he without much experience of boys and granted he comes from a culture with a strict morality, but teenagers have hormones and granted how often these two need to kiss in order to prevent the adverse effects of soulmate separation, some sexual tension is to be expected and it is conspicuous by its absence.
Although the characters are poorly developed and one of them is a brat who doesn't seem to learn a thing from her many mistakes, I did enjoy the actual story. The plot is well thought out.
4.5 stars for this exciting continuation of the Alora series with characters I've grown to love. The stakes are high and the situation becomes critical and even deadly for some of the good guys, with betrayal and heroism in equal measure. It's difficult to write a review without spoilers, but I did want to see more in a climactic scene where some of the action was missing and felt like a "fade out" with the camera. Other than that, the story was very satisfying with both nail-biting scenes and sweet moments that made me sigh. I recommend starting with book 1 and reading all three!
The battle continues in this third installment of the soul mates Alora and Kaevin. We learn more of what life is like in Tenavae. As in the previous books, there is plenty of action in Montana as there is in the other realm called Tenavae. The Scroll holds many answers, but who can actually read and understand it? We are left with a surprise ending. I thought this was the last book in the series, but it is not. Vindrake will live to terrorize our heroes once again.
Alora and her friends and family go through so much trauma and sorrow and yet they continue on in hope for a better future. One without Vindrake in it.
It’s rare that I reread books. But, with the Alora series, I look forward to revisiting them again. Why? It’s the characters, the realm, and the plot.
Alora and Kaevin and cast are interesting, intriguing and just plain fun to spend time with. And, along with that, the contrast between the realms they exists in is comical. In each of the Alora books, I’ve looked forward discovering how one realm affects the other realm. It’s not a TV, it’s a magick box and not a cell phone but a magick talker. And so on.
Then the plot. Vindrake is as evil as they come. Contrasting that with the purity of good. Thus the battle between good and evil.
Alora, Maladorn Scroll, in my opinion, is a Five-Star read. It’s easy to read, with the right amount of tension.
Tamie Dearen has created an intricate new world that includes evil sorcerers, hero's with special gifts, warlords and magic beyond anything I could have dreamed up. In the book they are looking for a way to defeat Vindrake the evil sorcerer and free the people he has enslaved to do his bidding. The only key could possibly be found in the scroll. You will not regret purchasing this book.
