Samantha Bevans is having the best sex of her life—but it’s not with her husband. Fortunately for her marriage, the affair is all in her mind. Isn’t it? As an empath, Sam senses other people’s emotions, and her connection to the man with the chiseled face and haunting eyes seems so real.

But Sam has no time for her own emotional baggage with a serial killer loose in Pittsburgh. The killer is targeting dancers at a strip club where she used to bartend, back when drugs were the only cure for the torment her abilities caused. As a member of a special task force, Sam uses her talents to sense the victims’ final memories. Just when she thought the case was complex enough, she discovers one of the victims saw her fantasy man before she died.

With each new revelation, Sam spirals more out of control. Death emotions call to her, wanting to share their secrets, but when she finally discovers the truth, will Sam have lost herself completely? Or will she figure out who she was all along?

WOW! This book was crazy good. I've never read anything like it and you know what? I LOVED IT!! I was hooked right away. This story line was totally unique and was filled with twists and turns. D.T. Dyllin is a mastermind to come up with a story line like this, where these ideas came from, I'll never know. She also has a fantastic writing style that flowed seamlessly.

The characters and the paranormal elements that were given to each of them were EXCELLENT! The author’s imagination was phenomenal, and one thing I love about paranormal books is that for the most part anything goes, and that’s exactly what happened here and it was all good.

The timeline bounces back and forth, from past to present, and at first I was put off by it. It doesn’t always work for me, but I have to admit, it was done quite well here and didn’t detract from the read at all.

The book has some heat but I would in no way consider the sexual encounters to be erotic, even though the book is tagged as such. I like my reads to have plenty of spice, it’s a personal preference, and Feeling Death delivered for the most part and overall I was not disappointed.

This book has one of the most uniquely written epilogues that I've ever read. The heroine talks directly to the readers and I thought that was a FANTASTIC touch.

Since this is the first book in a trilogy, I was somewhat worried about the dreaded cliffhanger coming into play, but that’s not what happened. It wrapped up nicely, not a true HEA but a satisfying ending, and I’m intrigued enough to want to read more.

All in all, I found this to be an amazing read and very enjoyable. I highly recommend it to those of you who love to read paranormal romances with an excellent original storyline.

First I have to say this book was AMAZING! Just simply Amazing! You want to talk about a mind F&^% this is the book for you because lord as I was reading it I kept thinking S&^% is that real or is that fake? Did that just really happen or is that all in her head? This book had me on the edge of my chair thinking the entire time holy S&^% this is not real it is all made up in her head and then something would happen and I would realize that no it did indeed happen.

Samantha Bevans works for the government as an Empath. She has this ability to feel peoples emotions and this handy dandy ability allows her to help the government on their most recent case. Someone is killing girls and Sam can sense their emotions that they had right before they died. One huge problem is that Sam is having some issues herself so she is not sure what to make of the new developments she has in the case.

See Sam is married but she is having the best sex life imaginable but it is not with her husband. WTF you are thinking and yes you would be right because she is having the best sex of her life in her mind with a gorgeous stranger. Every night she goes to bed and she dreams about him and has the greatest sex ever but the problem is is it is not real or is it?

Sam better figure it out soon because the last girl killed thought about her mystery guy she sees every night in her dreams. What is Sam to do when she sees this? Is the mystery man dangerous? Is he real? Is she next on the serial killers mind? This book is such a great mind f%^&* you will find yourself wondering what the hell just happened!

I have never read anything quite like this masterpiece. Sam is an empath that works for the government by feeling peoples last emotions before their death. She starts having explicit dreams of a fantasy man that feel so real. But are they really fantasy? This story will leave you breathless. I'm so bummed that it had to end but I'm excited about the rest of the trilogy. D.T. Dyllin is a writing Goddess and she is now one of my top 3 authors. I really hope that this book stays exactly how the beta was. You all need to read this book as soon as is is released.

Where do I start? This book is WOWZA BANANA'S!!! I can't even express with words how EPIC it was but I shall try. This is the second book by D.T. Dyllin that I've had the pleasure of beta reading. I loved her book Hidden Gates and didn't know how this one would stack up. I have to admit that this is one of the best books that I've read in a while, possibly THE best. The author has this was of sucking you into these stories and keep you wanting more. When I wasn't actively reading it, I was thinking about it. I always said I loved YA because of the anticipation and build up of the romance. This book completely changed my mind. This book was freaking hot!! It will have you palpitating and salivating. Sometimes I have a problem with there being too much romance and not enough story. This book had a perfect balance of the two.

Who am I, where am I, and WTF happened? Dark, gritty, and sexually charged, Feeling Death is an engaging read with a very unique concept.

From the first sentence, I was intrigued… and confused… and based on the author’s style, pretty sure I was going to be entertained. I was not disappointed. The plot has so many twists, turns, flashbacks, flash-forwards, and cartwheels, I was reeling a bit, but hopelessly hooked on the story. The author takes her time in unfolding the story, and answering the reader’s (and the characters’) questions, managing to impart information at critical moments: keeping this complicated plot flowing smoothly.

I’m not in love with Sam’s character, but I don’t need to be. Even though she’s an empath, she’s real and relatable and I felt a connection to her story just the same. In some ways she’s just a girl… with some problems. She’s battling demons, real and imagined(?), has a powerful supernatural gift, makes mistakes, and shows both vulnerability and strength. She’s fortunate enough to have two very sexy love interests in Nixon and Austin. Nixon is the steadfast protector and Austin the irresistibly sexy but dangerous bad-boy. I won’t spoil who she chooses to spend most of her time with but their sex scenes certainly steam up the pages!

The supernatural elements to the story are very well done. There were times, especially early on, where I couldn’t decide whether I was reading paranormal suspense or a twisted psychological thriller: I love that I was constantly guessing. This is an imaginative and intense read, twisty and sexy, with an ending that grants some closure, but leaves the reader eager for a next book in the series.

“But I had no fight left in me. How can you fight for something when you don’t even know what you’re fighting for? I had so many unanswered question. My life, my memories were all unclear to me. Before I could fight for myself, or anyone else, I had to get the answers to who I really was. And at this point, I didn’t really care where they came from just as long as I got them.”

Wow! I did not know what to expect .... the first few pages had me going WTF like is she serious!? I found myself very confused and talk about a mind-fuck!! If anybody saw my face while reading this it was probably all twisted up! The first half was confusing but I couldn't put it down then I started understanding a bit more and going ohhh I think I know what's happening... I think!..... by the second half it was all coming together and I started understanding the characters more. Because the first half was so damn confusing, I couldn't really get into the sex but that changed in the second half. Then things started getting hot & steamy, funny and I started liking both Nixon and Austin. The ending was a bit... well I feel like I didn't really closure, I guess and I wouldn't mind a book 2. Overall I would definitely recommend this book to anybody, I really enjoyed it and did I mention how much I love the cover? Mysteriously hot!

I have to say that I really did not enjoy this book. I found the storyline to be incredibly thin, weak and superficial.

Now, I will tell the reader of this review that the majority of high rating reviews come from erotic book reviewers. While I do not specialize in this genre of book reviewers, I do review in the majority of genres.

I would say, if this is a genre that you read frequently in that you will more than likely enjoy this read. If you don't, you might have a difficult time with it as I did.

"4.5 stars" I’ve been friends with author D. T. Dyllin for a few years, but until now, I haven’t gotten around to reading any of her books. It might be because she told me that she prefers darker stories, so she was reluctant to read my books since they’re on the sweeter side. I guess I figured that even though I love her as a person, our writing styles might be too different for me to appreciate her books. Not to mention, it can be a little dicey to read a friend’s book and then not like it. Well, I’m so glad I finally put all my concerns aside to give one a try, because she totally wowed me with Feeling Death. I want to say, though, that the author didn’t give me a free copy, nor did she ask me to review the book. I chose this particular one to begin with, because I usually enjoy stories in which psychic powers play a part and this one has that in spades. All the characters have some type of psychic gifts, whether it be empathic, telepathic, clairvoyant, psychic healer, or something else. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I just can’t get enough of pondering the inner workings of the human mind, so these types of stories feed that little obsession of mine. That said, though, I definitely won’t deny that this isn’t your run-of-the-mill romance novel. It’s part paranormal romance, part romantic suspense, and part psychological thriller. It’s full of dark twists and turns that you won’t see coming. The reader certainly has to keep their thinking cap on for this one. But I didn’t mind, because I also love stories that make me think. So while Feeling Death was anything but ordinary and not necessarily the type of book I would usually read, I loved it anyway.

The heroine and first-person narrator of the story is Samantha, who is an empath. The story opens with her happily married – or so she believes – and working with her husband, Nixon, and others like them on an elite task force that is currently investigating a string of serial killings. Sam is able to use her empathic talents to read the crime scene and sense the emotions of the victim just before they died, which is a handy tool when trying to solve murders. Despite generally being content with her husband, she’s been having some very strong erotic dreams about another man, someone who she thinks is named Austin. She isn’t sure if they are merely dreams, or actual memories of some kind, or if she’s just plain going crazy. Then she sees Austin in the memories of their serial killer’s latest victim. But before she has time to figure it out, Sam is sent to work on another case where strippers are being targeted. She goes undercover as a stripper at the club where she used to work as a bartender before becoming a part of her psychic team. While working there, more of the visions of Austin keep coming to her, while Nixon starts acting strangely, like he’s trying to keep her away from something or someone, rather than merely protecting her from the serial killer.

I really like Sam. She’s a strong, kick-butt heroine who’s pretty independent and can mostly take care of herself, but she’s not an island. She has vulnerabilities that make her easy to relate to, such as low self-esteem. I was particularly intrigued by the fact that until she met one of the two men in this story (the one she’s destined to be with), she hadn’t had a sexual experience that was all her own. By that I mean that since she didn’t have good control over her powers, she was always unintentionally feeding off the lust and desires of the person she was with, which made her feel dirty and used. I also liked that she isn’t the type of girl who’s comfortable with casual sex, although sometimes her powers betray her into doing it anyway. Sam is loyal to those she cares about and would do anything to protect them. She grows and changes a lot throughout the story, in some ways for good and in other ways not. In fact, by the end, she’s a pretty different person who’s discovered that she has a dark side. But the one thing that remains constant is her deep and abiding love for her man, which nothing and no one can break.

Now for the two main men in Sam’s life. First, there’s Austin, another empath, who is pretty much the ultimate alpha male. He’s confident, arrogant, and basically has women falling at his feet to get into his bed. He’s pretty much your typical, unapologetic, garden-variety man-whore, who refuses to offer Sam anything more than just sex. I have no problem saying that all of these qualities, especially in one package, would usually completely turn me off, but with Austin, I totally fell for him. Why you ask? Well, somehow his arrogance managed to come off as sexy and lovable. I also suppose it’s because he, too, has a lot of vulnerabilities that make him easy to like and relate to. I fully understood why he is the way he is, so all of his bad traits didn’t seem so bad anymore. Not to mention he’s pretty much a dream lover, and when he does finally open himself up, he becomes this passionate force of nature that’s impossible to resist. And then there’s Nixon, who happens to be Austin’s best friend. Nixon is a void, which means that he can neutralize the powers of other psychics when he’s close to them. He’s basically the ultimate good guy, the beta, who gets friend-zoned more often than winning the girl. He’s kind, gentle, protective, and surprisingly understanding when some very awkward circumstances arise, but at the same time, he can be a little clueless both about relationships and about the emotional turmoil an empath goes through since he isn’t one. However, I did believe that he genuinely cared about Sam. There really wasn’t anything not to like about Nixon except that toward the very end, a decision he made concerning Sam is revealed that placed his motives into question in my mind. This wasn’t fully resolved, though, or at least it didn’t seem to be, so I’m hoping that we’ll learn more about why he did this in the next book.

All of the characters in Feeling Death are layered and complex (the best kind :-)) as are their relationships to one another. Just when you think you have them figured out, some new piece of the puzzle is added to twist things around. Even Malcolm, the serial killer and main villain of the story, has compelling reasons for why he does things, as does Jessica, a healer who is part of their team and also sleeping with Austin. She seems nice in the beginning, but even though the resolution to her part of the story is only told at the very end, it made perfect sense that she would do something like that. There are some other peripheral characters that I would love to see more of like Austin’s Native American friend, Teryn, and Natalie, the leader of their team. I’d love to see their powers explored in more detail and learn more about them as individuals, but I guess I’ll have to wait until the next book to see if I get my wish.

As I said before, this isn't your typical romance novel and not just because of the darker aspects. The main reason you have to stay on your toes is that the story isn’t really told in chronological order. It starts in the present with Sam getting bits and piece of visions with little context as to when they might have happened, if they did. Then about halfway into the story, we’re catapulted back six years in time to fill in a lot of the blanks. The next few years are fast-forwarded through at intervals of months or even years, stopping for a little while at certain points to explain specific events in more detail, before finally coming full-circle back to the present. It’s not the easiest style to follow and may confuse some readers, but for the most part I think I kept up pretty well with all the main points. It felt much like watching a movie, where they show you a compelling scene at the beginning then go back in time to show you what happened to lead up to that moment. In fact, I think this book would make a great movie. Another thing that makes this book atypical is the ending. Is it a positive HEA? Weeellll… yes. But it’s complicated. Sorry I’m not saying more, but I’ve purposely been trying not to give too much away in my review, because it’s a lot of fun just figuring it all out for yourself. However, while I was fine with how things turned out romantically speaking, there are other things at the end that made me drop the half-star. It’s mainly that I was left with a lot of questions, although I’m making some allowances since I know there’s more story coming. It’s just there were a couple of points that I think could have been explained a bit more clearly.

There’s so much about Feeling Death that shouldn’t have worked for me: an arrogant man-whore hero, a love triangle, the main couple sleeping with other people when they should be with each other, one of the persons in that pairing fighting their feelings. These are all things that I try to avoid in my romance reading, and in other authors’ hands, I’ve strongly disliked. But somehow, D. T. Dyllin managed to write the story in such a way that all these things made sense in context, so that I was OK with them. Another thing that helped immensely is that when I sit down to read a book, the thing I most want to come away from that story with is having felt something. I can definitely, without hesitation, say this happened. There’s a great deal of angst, drama, tension, emotion, and passion packed into this story that gave me all kinds of feels, and I loved that. Another thing that was awesome for me were the love scenes. They’re intense, steamy, and sensual, without ever being tawdry. It’s so hard to find an author who writes these scenes just right for me, and when I do find one, you’d better believe I’ll be back for more. And that’s not the only thing I’ll be back for more of. Like I said, there are so many questions I still have, one of which is finding out who’s really behind all the things that happened in this story, so I’ll definitely be picking up Embracing Death soon.

Original review here: http://offbeatvagabond.blogspot.com/2013/05/feeling-death-blog-tour-review-giveaway.html

Feeling Death follows a woman named Sam who has a special ability. She is an empath. Her empath abilities make her very important in finding some very dangerous killers. Aside from trying to catch a serial killer, Sam is experiencing some scary and interesting things in her life. She is married to a man named Nixon, but can't get the thoughts of a man named Austin out of her head. She hates that she is cheating on her husband even though it is mentally, but something feels right about it even though she won't admit it. Sam soon finds out not everything isn't what it seems, both with those around her and herself.

This is easily going on my favorite reads of 2013 list. It wouldn't be a great list without this book on it. Feeling Death oozes imagination and creativity. You will be on the edge of your seat from beginning to end with this. Oh my goodness, the mystery will kill you. I couldn't believe it and it is only the beginning.

Sam is a very complex character and for good reason. Her empath abilities can pick up on peoples' emotions and sometimes their thoughts if they are strong enough. She is able to feel the last moments of someone's life and that is what makes her so good at her job. Now if you are like me and you are a fan of that new Hannibal show, she has Will's ability which is pretty awesome and freaky as hell all at once. While hunting a serial killer targeting strippers, she knows exactly who the killer is. But that is only the beginning. The story goes much deeper than that. There are a lot of things and I mean a lot of things being kept from Sam. Top of that list is the mysterious Austin that replaces her husband's face. She has no idea who he is, but she knows he means something to her. At first she thinks she is losing her mind, but that may not be the case. I did want to punch her a couple of times in the book given the Nixon situation. But after hearing what her empath abilities due to her personally, I can understand. But still though.

But I still love Sam. She was both vulnerable and stubborn. I love the connection she had with the other characters in the book specifically when we meet the elusive Austin. Oh boy, you want to talk about chemistry. I loved their scenes together. They went from being very sexy and steamy to sweet and funny. Just everything came together so beautifully. I love how these characters were written out. Their personalities added a lot to the book. And if I am being honest, I am Team Nixon. I love the scenes we get when meeting him. I knew if I met him, I would have been giggling like a silly schoolgirl. He had me smiling from ear-to-ear. This is also where I would have placed one of those well deserved punches on Sam. I get the connection between her and Austin, but come on.

The story was incredible. I have never come across anything like this before. I love that this is such a beautiful mixture of paranormal and mystery. Dyllin's writing style is impeccable. This woman is a master with pen and paper (or fingers and keys, whichever she prefers). There is soooooo much more to this story that catching a serial killer. Everything comes back to Sam and her memories. Her memories play a huge role in this book. We get snippets in the beginning of the book, but they become more elaborate in the second half of the book. Some of these flashbacks will get repeated , but that is part of the mystery. Someone is playing with her and those she loves and you are dying to find out who. The twists, dear sweet baby Jesus, the twists! And yet there are so many questions left when it is all over. Dyllin is definitely not done teasing us. The things we learn are staggering.

I really hope I am not giving away too much. It is impossible not to mention some things when writing about this book. But trust me, this is only the surface. There are characters in this book that we will meet that I feel know much more than they let on. There are even scenes when you know something just doesn't feel right. You know something is definitely wrong, but you can't put all the pieces together. I love a great mystery and this one has me stumped liked no other. It is an incredible jigsaw puzzle that I am going to have a lot of fun putting together. I didn't want the book to end. As a matter of fact, it should have been longer since I felt the ending was a bit rushed. But I think Dyllin did this for a reason. This is a must read. You honestly won't find a book quite like this. Get it right now. What are you doing still reading this? Start it now!

*note* I received this book as a beta from the author. I do not know this author personally, nor did I receive anything in return for my review. These opinions are all mine.

Okay first lets talk about the sex scenes! Yes, this is purely for adults! Author D.T. Dyllin writes these erotic scenes that leave you grabbing for your spouse! Detailed very tastefully and written very naughty. How she managed to get those two together is a mystery! Guess it attributes to her fantastic writing skills!
In this story you will discover a world with empaths and others around with special abilities. Really you've probably read a dozen empath stories, but none like this one! I'm continually thrown for a loop with this writers imagination! She is one of a kind in her story telling! This story takes the base of something we've been introduced to before and she creates a new twist and new tale that keeps you engrossed. I was invested in every character that she introduces us to in this story. She describes characters so well that they become a natural part of your brain and you can clearly see their facial reactions as you read. I got a real connection to Chloe/Sammy, Austin, & Nixon. She did an amazing job creating their relationships. I felt like I was watching a movie in my head and I absolutely love when that happens. That means the character has been described so perfectly that you can "see" them. I love that our leading lady is equally strong and weak. She's a woman with insecurities and many women can relate to that. No matter how strong we are or how much we want to be our own person, we all have insecurities. I found her's charming. I love when she pouted with Austin and I could totally see myself doing that. What women doesn't throw a little pout her husbands way to get what she wants! hahahaha Our main characters aren't the only ones we get attached to. There were wonderful background characters. I feel like we just scratched the surface with Natalie and I don't know if there's more there, but she's very interesting and I look forward to hearing more about her. Malcolm was the major part of everyone's turmoil, but again I think Natalie plays a part in this for some reason.

I loved the entire plot, the entire background of this entire story! It was beautifully written and it was so original in imagination! I know I've said the same thing about her other writing, but D.T. Dyllin's imagination is so refreshing! I've never read things like she put's on her pages and it's so intriguing and full of surprises! I love it! If I'm being totally honest this is one of the greatest adult books I've read in months!! months!! I applaud you. Great job!

First sentence...

"I'm having an affair," I blurted out, causing Dr. Gray to sit forward in her seat.

My thoughts...

Sam is an empath who uses her special skills to help find the bad guys at a crime scene. She's happily married with her husband Nixon who just so happens to be a void. When he is around, she doesn't have to fit so hard blocking out everything around her. However, little by little these fantasies of another man keep popping in her head. There's no harm in a little fantasy but pretty soon these fantasies are making her question those around her. It isn't until the leading man in her fantasies walks through the door that she starts to question if the life she's been living is real or if the fantasies are real.

It's no secret that I am a fan of the author and her writing style. She writes as if she's recalling something that happened as apposed to coming up with a story. The characters seem real and aren't mechanical in their actions or speech. Their brain to mouth filter is absent sometimes and their actions aren't always the smartest choice but that is what makes them human.

Sam was a very difficult character for me. I liked her up until she started getting flippant when in regards to Nixon's feelings. I guess I just have a very strong opinion when it comes to cheating and no matter the circumstances I sort of take a step back from the character when it happens.

"It felt almost as if Nixon walked in on me with another man. And yes, a small part of me wanted to ask him to turn around and shut the door behind him so that my fantasy lover and I could be alone to finishe up. How screwed up was that?"

I did find that the bits and pieces of memory that Sam gets in the beginning could have been cut down because when she finally gets her memories back, we rehash those memories and then some. So I found that parts of the story could be skipped over because I had already read it as part of Sam's previous recollections.

Other than the memory issue though, I really enjoyed this story. I found myself flipping page after page to see what happened next. Even though this story is more of a set up of things to come since the majority of the book is pretty much Sam getting her memories back, I can't wait to see what happens next.

I need to be really clear with you all here… I loved D.T Dyllins The PJ Stone Gates Trilogy (I was lucky enough to Beta read the series for her) so when she asked if I would like to read Feeling Death I think I died and went to fangirl heaven. Then I started thinking well what if I don’t like it. Well thankfully I didn’t have to worry because Dyllin has done it again! She has written another book that grabs the reader, sinks its claws into you and refuses to let you go until you devour the entire story. I couldn’t step away from this, I tried, but I failed miserably. As a busy mom of four young kids I do have periods of time where I’m incredibly busy, the weekend is one of them. My list of chores that need doing is as long as my arm but every time I leave the book to go do a job it calls to me. My head never really leaves the book, I’m always wondering what’s going to happen with Sam. Which means I’m never gone for too long.

This is such an easy read to fall into, and fall into it you do. We begin right in the middle of the story with events unfolding before our eyes much like they do for Sam. There is no awkward 3 chapters worth of back story to fight your way through before the action begins. Sam’s story is a fairly complicated one, and in the beginning when things start to unravel she is overwhelmed, not fully able to process what’s going on, and as the reader being dragged along for the ride you kinda feel the same way. But soon enough though it all becomes clear.

Sam’s world is very much like ours except some people in her world have special abilities. Some people use their abilities for good and others not so much. This isn’t your everyday average paranormal, this is something more. It is dark and gritty in places, and helluva sexy in others. With the detailed sexy scenes this book is most definitely adult!

I honestly cannot wait until I can get my hands on the next instalment in this series.. I know, I know I’m incredibly impatient, but it really isn’t that often that I find a writer that draws me into their books so completely but there were bits in this book that were only hinted at and I need to see how they develop.

A paranormal romance nicely weird, wacky and surprising.

A somewhat complex paranormal story that begins as a police investigation. Very quickly, the reader learn that Sam is a kind of profiler with the ability to read people's emotions including the ones of victims before they die.
In parallel to her job, in her love life, she is haunted by a man whom she fantasizes about. The problem is ...
She is married and the man with whom she has erotic dreams is not her husband. Worse, reality and fantasy begin to have difficulty to distinguish in her daily life.

And when you see the kind of super boiling hot dreams this young woman is having, at her place, I would spend all my days sleeping too!

Everything is done by the author to show Sam as psychologically disturbed. Her work undercover in the special task force is stressful and maybe too much for her to handle. One feels that she is about to crack. Then, the lies began to be raised by voices in the her own head and there ...

This is where the story really begins... And you, as the reader, you are discovering that you have been wronged in your deductions by the imagination of the author. Really weel done! Now, there is a secret society, a serial killer came to avenge the death of his loved one, prophetic dreams and destinies thwarted. A beautiful, confusing mess that make sens at the end.

This erotic thriller is sensual while being dark and scary. I liked that the heroine is not necessarily a good and has a great deal of shadows inside her.
Reading Samatha's story it's like walking on a wire. Everything can change without ever knowing on which side.

I also admit that the end has puzzled me, especially when I saw that there would be a sequel .... My curiosity is piqued and I will definitively put my hands on it ...
A pretty amazing romantic paranormal thriller.

I didn't know what to expect from this book, but what I got was a sexy, suspense-filled, kick ass novel that I simply couldn't put down, reminding me why I love paranormal romance so much! It's going to be hard to review this book without totally spoiling it, but I'll try my best.

At first, I didn't know what to make of it. Sam is having an affair, a pretty serious one, with a man in her dreams, which is weird enough on its own. But we weren't kept in nail-biting suspense for too long, as bits and pieces of what the truth behind her dreams really was.

I've never really read a book like this. I loved all of the flashbacks and how most of the story was spent rehashing past events. Most of the time backstory totally ruins a book's flow. But not here. The backstory was what this book was all about and I loved it! You will too, I promise. It was just that interesting.

I really liked Sam's character. She was funny and emotional (duh, she's an empath), but beware, this girl bites! There's a really great scene where she kicks this woman's ass GOOD. I won't say who or why, but it was great and a long time coming. There are two other male characters in this book that I really liked, but I won't say too much about them. But one IS the man in her dreams! Loved him!

As the synopsis says, the murders and her dreams are sort of all connected. But you'll never guess how so it's best just to roll with it. I'm glad this is a trilogy because I so wanted more when I was finished. Grrr! I wish I could write a longer review but if I say what I really want to say then you'll have no reason to go buy it. Just trust me, you won't be disappointed. As far as paranormal romances go, it's one of the best I've read in quite a while!

I received this book from Edelweiss to give an honest review. *May contain spoilers*

Before I even start this review let me say this. This book is for adults as there are a lot of sex scenes within the book.
But with the sex, there is also the paranormal. Sam is an empath and there are others out there like her. She learning about her powers while at the same time having fantasies of having sex with another man. While having these fantasies she also is having visions of women being murdered.

I found myself liking Sam at the beginning and then getting quite pissed off at her for hurting Nixon the way she did. To me cheating is cheating on any level, whether it is a kiss, a screw whatever. The way she truly did not take Nixon's feelings into account though the book really irked me a lot and I just felt heart broken.

That being said, I truly enjoyed reading this book even with the repeats that happened. By repeats I mean Sam who have a vision of her and Austin having sex within a room. Then later on she learns that it really happened and it was a memory that was blocked. We get the same details that we got before, so after a way it was like okay we know what is going to happen now. So I did find myself kind of glancing over the parts.

Now I want to know when did Austin and Sam ever get married? I mean she was getting her memory back yes but never once did I read about their wedding. Unless it was a shotgun wedding.

Other than that I found this story to be a good one. I do hope there will be another book soon since there are some questions that need answers.

Favorite Lines “So much love, so much trust. It’s a shame really.” A deep voice spoke in my mind. “Have you forgotten me, like you’ve forgotten him? Because I remember you, Samantha. I remember you.”

“His eyes held a single-minded intensity that spoke of possession, passion, and it was sexy as hell, not to mention the most intimate thing I’d ever done in my life.”

“You’re not one of those beautiful girls who doesn’t know they’re beautiful, are you?”

“It means I felt her presence in my heart before we ever met. She’s who I’ve been searching for and running from all at the same time, I just didn’t know it. But when I met her, some part of me recognized her from the start. And yeah, it scared the shit out of me, but in the end, I had to go after her.” Wow. Just, wow. I really, really wished we were alone right now so I could show him I felt the same way.”

Wow what a crazy beginning! This is a dark fabulous story that makes you need more!

Dark, gritty, and mind-trippy, Feeling Death seduces the reader into the mind and mixed emotional state of an empath struggling with her own feelings because the world she knows is built on lies and death.

While the summary covers some of the plot, it only captures half of the story, which I'm sorry to say I can't tell you because I don't want to give it away. Even though I had inkling on what was happening, I still fluctuated between certainty and doubt. The author did such a great job with the delivery that I didn't know which way was up and down until the climax, and even then, I was anticipating another twist. I didn't know who to trust and who was more right. Like the female protagonist, Samantha Bevans, I was at war with myself until the reveal, and still, I was antsy, fighting what I wanted and what my high-strung emotions craved. Maybe not because of the same reasons as Sam—I'm not an empath, and I definitely don't yearn for the feel of death and the euphoria it brought her—but the sensations were the same:

Tension. Anticipation. Need. Lust—of varying degrees and for so many different things. An end, a release, peace, answers, two different men for disparate reasons.

The storyline is a bit complicated, with the narration jumping between past and present, and it isn't clear until halfway through which is which. Feeling Death is a quick read, but it's not a mindless one. You have to pay attention, and you can't skim.

There is a very dramatic love triangle, but in this case, it worked. Again, I can't tell you more without giving the story away, but I can say I struggled with who I liked more. Each man had their faults, but both were inherently good, with very genuine emotions and understandable intentions while offering various fulfillment of needs. The sex was deliciously naughty yet tastefully and sensually done, too.

The only big issue I had was when things began to repeat in the second half of the book, in which case I did want to do the horrifying: skim. But in the end, the attention to detail was worth it. The repetition of events cemented reality, the relationships, and the story ideas. And though, I wish there was more central world-building or explanations (details on the secret agency, its purpose, history, and dynamics in relation to our world, plus the agents' and the villain's in the overall concept), this is the first book of a trilogy, and my OCD, dying-to-know-everything-so-I-can-get-it-all-straight side is satisfied with this installment's ending.

My curiosity is more than piqued. I'm eagerly anticipating the next book and can't imagine what D.T. Dyllin will hit us with next; Feeling Death is original and stunning with its dark twist on empaths and group of other gifted individuals. Recommended for Paranormal Romance fans who have a taste for naughty Erotica and slight mind-f*cks.

“The one who dies has it easy, you know. The one who’s left behind is the one who truly suffers.”

I personally chose the book for the feeling given to me by its cover (suitable to subject) and for its title. If I would have not liked it, I would not write the review. That would have been easy. Now it’s more difficult for me to tell you my opinion without revealing anything. Secrecy is important because Feeling Death is that kind of book that is based on a game of lights and shadows. Better say it’s a game of memories personal or others, thoughts and bits of feelings, personal or of others'. In fact it's a difficult maze to be navigated, and without knowing if it has an emergency exit or even a hole through it which you can peek and gives you the hope that there is still a chance for you.

This time the book’s description will be misleading you. If you want an "erotica" it’s likely that you’ll be disappointed. But if you want a book in which the intimate scenes are well used and only emphasize the existence and dimensions of feelings and states, then there are good chances for you to like Feeling Death.

There is the love story, but as much as tortuous is its road, no matter how profound it is or how insurmountable are the obstacles in its way, the love story is just the background color, that element which emphasizes the enormity and monstrosity that must be stopped. That does not mean to ignore the importance of this background. Like in a painting this is an important element for creating the atmosphere, and for characters’ motivation and directly participate in the transmission of feelings to the viewer. What I meant to say is that the author gives us a lot more.

In Feeling Death the paranormal abilities of the characters become weapons that are used against their owners. Advantages prove to be in the same time and measure disadvantages, handling could go in both directions.

„An education isn’t how much you have committed to memory, or even how much you know. It’s being able to differentiate between what you do know and what you don’t.” ~Anatole France

It's about revenge, the loss of control over what you are and crossing the line between good and evil ... It's about stopping of a (or more - you'll see) serial criminal(s). It is about using paranormal abilities for good or bad causes, about repercussions, about the suffering caused to those who love the person that is not for them, even about "no good deed goes unpunished."

I liked how the author blends the past with the present, and how she’s not indulged in a sweet mixture, in which everything is resolved, the targets are saved and everything turns pink. Most times life is not like this, and Feeling Death remains in the "real" world.

Until the last moment you do not know who is right, who is wrong or who is guiltier. There are several leads and some memories pulled out of context can mislead, however you will be intrigued from the beginning and you will not know how time and pages fly.

„Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.” —Siddhārtha Gautama, the Historical Buddha

This book is trippy. I'm not happy with the label of "erotic" paranormal romance because erotic usually means erotica, and books in that genre are fairly focused on sex. This isn't about sex. This was a total mind screw, a psychological thriller, with romance and yes, sex, in it, but so much more! I should warn you: if you're going into this book expecting the typical-of-most-erotica sexy but easy, cheesy conversations and then nothing but sex scenes, this is not the book for you.

I don't know if it's because I was so fascinated at this absolute mind-frack (hey, I gotta post my review on amazon so no cursing. They get mad when you use the word see-are-a-pee. See? I even had to do that phonetically or they would kick it back out!) that I just took the sexy bits, digested them, kinda said "ooh that was hot", and then promptly forgot about them as I watched Sam unravel or if there just wasn't enough overly detailed sex for me to agree with that slap on label of erotic. Regardless, it IS definitely paranormal romance and it was a heck of a ride.

The build-up is trippy, the way half the book is told in flashback that progress from six years ago to 4 years ago to 3 years ago, it kept me turning the pages, utterly fascinated at these people, their powers, and what it means to be Sam. A more apt description is definitely psychological thriller. As always, I do my best to keep my reviews spoiler free so it's difficult for me to talk about this book (AGAIN, D.T. Dyllin! The Gates Trilogy was the same way! I'm gonna have to get a book club reading these so I can dish!) without giving too much away, but I must say the love triangle is a doozy. And then...the whole Nixon thing...SO. MESSED. UP. Annnnd, since the book is told in a series of flashbacks after the present day is secured, I can't tell you whether I mean flashback Nixon situation or current Nixon situation. All I can say is MESSED. UP.

Thankfully, I'm reading the ARC right now of Book 2, EMBRACING DEATH. It took that whole book to get to the examples of the title, and now I want to know more. I'm hoping I get a bit more history of Malcolm, Austin, Nixon, etc., or resolution and answers and peace (too hopeful? yeah, I'm the eternal optimist) for Sam.

TL;DR -- more of a psychological thriller, romance with hot sex scenes than erotica, this is a Kindle-Bruiser. You will be glued to your kindle, stabbing it with your finger to turn the page!

Samantha has been dreaming with a smoking hot man who is not her husband. What happen when the man of your dreams is not the one you are supposed to love? What would you do when dreams seem more than mere fantasies? What if somehow you suspect that some of your memories were altered?

Feeling Death is a fantastic paranormal book with a hot romance and extraordinary characters. It’s a story that will surprise you with every new twist and every new revelation. Just when you think you figure it out, you will discover how wrong you were.

The plot is amazing to say the least, is really original and the idea of people with paranormal powers is very engaging. Is well planned and excellent written, with an attractive style and a way of telling the story that makes you feel every emotion and situations.

The book is for and adult audience not only because of the sex involved but also because the characters are adults. This is people dealing with problems like love, marriage, relationships and all around a paranormal environment where special abilities are real.

Because the book is labeled as an erotic romance I will have to say something about it. It’s true that the book has explicit sex, with some scenes that rise the temperature to the sky. In my opinion they are perfect, not only they are exceptionally written but also well placed. They appear at the right time and not all the book is about sex.

The characters are amazing. If you read any other book by the author you know she does a great job creating likeable and real characters. Samantha is a woman I love, she is a mess at times but it’s understandable (I mean, anyone would go crazy in her place) but she is also a strong and independent person. Austin and Nixon are two hot men with great personalities, similar and different at the same time, with flaws that make them more human and real.

And of course, there is a bad guy. Who, let me tell you, is really evil and some of the scenes that described his work made a good job scaring me.

There are so many great things about this book but I don’t want to spoil nothing. But I do have to mention that the ending will leave you wanting for more.

Overall, this is an excellent paranormal romance. Recommendable for all the paranormal-erotic-romance lovers.

Now I know what you’re thinking, “Juewelz, this series isn’t finished. Why did you read it?” I know.. I know BUT I am trying to step my paranormal game up and when I saw that this book was going on tour and it was labeled as an erotic paranormal I had to sign up! Thank You book masters that this book did NOT have a cliffhanger! The story will continue but I don’t feel like there were any major loose ends.

Ok this book starts off with a bang! I’m like WOAH Hello, good afternoon kinda steamy. LOL I had to text Akilah who was reading it along with me and say,” Did you read that.” LOL It was just a shock for a book to start off getting right to the hanky panky as Feeling Death did. I welcomed it however :-)

Sam the main Chick is married to Nixon. They are also coworkers and work on a team that I would like to call Men In Black lol. This story does get a bit complicated so pay attention! No tweeting and instagraming or you will be confused (like I was). So Sam is a ex stripper, empath, wife and in a crazy love triangle. Normally i'm not a fan of love triangles and most def not a fan of cheating EVER. This book has both..I didn't hate the love triangle. I actually felt bad for the characters. Sam has these crazy fantasies about Austin a “figure of her imagination” and does not know why she has this crazy attraction to him. She’s even fantasizing about him while doing the hanky pank with her husband (ouch).

The storyline and plot development in this book is awesome. I normally can not stand flashbacks but the ones in this story were good and it really flowed and helped connect current issues. Sam also has her dreams and you don't know if it's the NOW or past tense kinda crazy, which you need to pay attention to. The paranormal elements to this book are not too much that you paranormal virgins couldn’t get into AND all they hot steamy scenes def will make up for it.

I can’t wait to see how the rest of the story pans out we have the logistics down now i’m ready for MORE

This started out slow and confusing, but drew me in with the sheer intrigue and sexiness of the storyline. When we first meet Samantha, she's under the impression that her husband Nixon is just not doing it for her and she's having an imaginary (HOT!) affair with a man named Austin. Austin, who just so happens to be incredibly sexy and does things to her body that she is quickly becoming addicted to. And there's the little fact that she's an empath working for the government, experiencing victims' deaths so she can help find a serial killer, and she's got a shady past that she can't remember details of. So yeah, things are a little overwhelming for her just as everything starts to come tumbling down!

It turns out, nothing is as it seems in Sam's life. As the pieces start fitting together and we get snippets of the past through her memories and what others reveal to her, I was floored by the twists and revelations. She's drawn to this imaginary man Austin, but is he really just a figment of her mind, or is she remembering someone from her past? It's all a tangled web of lies, a murderous plot of revenge, and a love that was destined to be. I won't give any more away about the plot because even in the utter confusion, it was a blast figuring out the mystery that is Sam's real life.

My only complaint would be that some parts were repetitive as memories that Sam had already uncovered were again revealed by another character to her, but otherwise I was loving this story at every point. Incredibly sexy, captivating, and a complete mind-warp, this was a great story that I give a definite thumbs up!!

Damnit Dara, you sure know how to fuck with someones mind. I just read this book and I still have no clue what happened. xD It's like trying to make a 1000-piece puzzle of the sea (seen from above, so only blue). Yeah, that's hard.

Even though this book is a complete mindfuck, it's still great and I expected no less from this amazing author. She is so talented and she is one of the few writers that can make a book like this come out great. It has everything I wanted. The sex was very well written in a way only D.T. Dyllin can. I loved all of the characters and once again, Dara has found a way to make every single character matter. Sure, I hate some of them, but you can't love every body. Although... this book was playing with my mind so much I don't even know who is who and who is good or bad anymore. But I want to know what happens next nonetheless.

This is a book where you really need to concentrate on what you're reading. So if you are going to read it, make sure you have no distractions for a few hours and focus solely on the book. If you do that, you'll probably understand it more than I did. If you're lucky.
Yeah, this is it for this review. My mind is still messed up from reading it so... Damn.

Samantha is a woman with a unique ability. Forced undercover she begins to unravel something far darker and more dangerous than expected.Memories play like a dream through her mind making her think she's going crazy and the only thing that helps is Nixon her husband. But nixon isn't telling her the whole truth. Then there's Austin. Mysterious, sexy austin. As unique as sam, maybe more so. Fireworks happen every time they're in the same room.Think of it like a game of cat and mouse or if you prefer chess - All the players are assembled and each one has a part to play. It's only a matter of time until one side wins &one side loses..Question is who wins?
Beginning with a premonition, this has murder, mystery, intrigue. And when austin unlocks her memories things start to go pear shaped. You go back to earlier then forward to the present. The first half of the story I was interested where it was going. Then I got so into the story I couldn't put it down.By the end I was saying "oooh that's not fair! You can't do that."Evil evil woman hehe. Seriously though you never see the twists coming and if by chance you do,they are never what you think...

Maybe my 3 star rating is a bit harsh. Perhaps it should be a 4 because I don't like this 1/2 a star bullshit. It's either 1,2,3,4 or 5.

What I liked:

The plot was interesting to a certain degree. The sex was hot. Probably my favorite part. The writing wasn't half bad.

What had me questioning a 4 star review:
Boring at times. Confusing at times. Annoying characters, at times. See, I'm really on the shelf on this book.

It definitely had some yawn worthy moments, but on the other hand there were very exciting and suspenseful moments.

I really just don't know how I feel and I read it over a week ago.

Did I hate the book so much that I'll avoid everything this author ever writes again, hell no.

It may just be that this book just wasn't quite up my alley.

BTW I think it's great that the author gives herself five star reviews! She should be proud! This book is not BAD. I just might not be the audience for it. On that note, if she decides to write erotica or romance (non-paranormal), someone let me know.

Braine's Talk Supe review

The character flaws made FEELING DEATH an interesting read. I enjoyed the world Dyllin created, to me it felt more sci-fi/fantasy than paranormal with all these characters having superhuman brain powers. There is a constant feeling of danger and the urgency of catching the serial killer is intense. And though I obviously have issues with the romance, I must say I appreciate all the gray areas Dyllin made. I love stories that not only elicit strong emotions and reactions from me but would take me out of my comfort zone and have me questioning things and arguing with the characters. Sam may not be my favorite heroine but I sure am curious on bearing witness to her journey. Hopefully she'll manage to win me over in the future.

FYI, I was a development editor on this book.

First, there is nothing more refreshing to read a manuscript that you have to work on, and freaking love it. Enjoying the novel, just makes the whole process easier to complete.

It's hard to say what this book is about without giving away too many spoilers, but this book is Dark, Edgy, Sexy, and liable to cause mind-mush.

I say that because you're taking on this really sick psychotic journey where the narrator may or may not be reliable. . .or let me correct, she may not be aware that she is. . .oh never mind, its difficult to freakin explain. lol!

This book has left me truly speechless and I am really not sure how I am ever going to write a review that it deserves. After just completing Feeling Death, I am feeling rather confused with the whole storyline however in the same moment it all seems to make complete sense.

Sam's life throughout the book is a confusing one, at had me at many times questioning what the hell was happening and whether it was real or not, but at the same time this kept me picking the book up as I needed to know what on earth would happen next!

I honestly cannot wait to read the next installment of the series to see how this continues!
