Favorite Lines "If you sit in the dark long enough, your eyes will adjust.
If you completely immerse yourself in death, eventually it will welcome you home into its sweet embrace.”

“I only hold back because I still know on some level that it’s wrong, and I don’t think I could actually kill someone for that high, but when it’s there, like this.”

“That love was all for me, never for him. Everything you gave him you were really giving me and I know that.”

“People in love are easily manipulated. I knew that from first-hand experience.”

“I will burn the world down to get him back and that’s just what I intend to do.”

OMG my heart broke while reading this for Austin and Sam! So many people out for them. So many people betraying them! So much darkness closing in! I would kill Nixon! He betrayed them almost as bad as I Know Natalie has!
To find out so much has been a lie then to be forcibly made to "enjoy" death! They are pawns in this game and it's heart breaking. Austin and Sam have this ELECTRIC kind of love that every woman prays to have a second of but, these 2 have it all the time. All they care about is each other. Austin tried to make her forget but, like Sam said she will burn the world down looking for him!
Again I want to just kill Nixon I think his betrayal is the worst and most painful to read about! I'm so torn I don't know if it would be better for them to stay apart or find each other. They are both on a dangerous path. I just pray love finds a way to win.
This is a dark, sensual, blood thirsty book. Yes I said those words in the same sentence because while it is a dark book this author does an amazing job of working the sensual scenes in. Were everything else melts away and all you can feel and think about is te love and passion this amazing couple share!
I am DYING TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS next! Great story! Amazing story! Recommending it to everyone!

I really wanted to love this book as much as book one, Feeling Death, but some of the things that occurred during the course of reading Embracing Death just did not sit well with me. First off I’d like to say that I gave this book a 3 star rating, but I did like this book and I VERY much want to read book three, the conclusion to this trilogy. I am very invested in these characters and I need to know what the conclusion will be for them.

Once again the imagination used in writing this book was excellent, and the story did hold my interest all the way through. There was plenty of heat, and I could REALLY feel the bond and love that Samantha and Austin had for each other.

I usually don't mind some violence when reading a romance, but this one had quite a few scenes, that for my taste, were a bit extreme and a touch too gruesome. The fact that both Samantha and Austin were involved in these scenes had me squirming and also thinking how they could possibly be the hero and heroine of this book, when some of the actions they took were on the evil side?!

The ending sets up for book 3, Becoming Death, and left me with the feeling that it’s going to be an AMAZING conclusion. This will be a MUST read book for me. I NEED to know if and how Samantha and Austin are reunited, and how they fight this dark side that has taken a hold of them. I’m also hoping that they redeem themselves and that the real villains are smoked out and dealt with swiftly.

This is a trilogy and the books NEED to be read in order.
Book One: Feeling Death
Book Two: Embracing Death
Book Three: Becoming Death (not released yet)

I was very pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed Feeling Death, the first book of my author friend, D. T. Dyllin’s Death Trilogy. It was the first of her books I’d tried and was certainly different than any other romance I’d ever read, so I have to give her major props for her creativity. That said, it was a pretty dark read, which I already knew was her thing, but now after reading Embracing Death, I can say that it went even darker still, which leaves me wondering what the final book might hold. I did still enjoy the story, but the ending left me with mixed feelings, which I’ll address shortly.

At the end of Feeling Death, the heroine and first-person narrator, Samantha, had just reunited with the love of her life, Austin, after being in the clutches of the villain who taught her how to use her empath skills to “feel death.” It became an exhilarating sensation for her, so much so that when this book opens, she’s essentially addicted to it. Austin is using his own empath skills to block hers in an attempt to keep her in check and help her recover from it. However, it seems like it might be too little, too late. Sam has grown a lot from the first book. She’s now pretty much a bad-ass who isn’t afraid of hardly anything except losing Austin. Unfortunately that becomes an all-too-real possibility when circumstances require that Austin loosen his hold on Sam’s mind so that she can work a case. While doing so, she unintentionally draws him into her warped world of experiencing deaths with her, which leads to him being torn away from her yet again and in danger of either being killed or losing himself completely to the siren song of death. I had to admire Sam for her determination. She knows that Austin would do anything for her, and she’s trying to be equally as selfless for him, even though things aren’t exactly going her way. She’s also intent on finding out the truth about the past and just who is pulling the strings behind the scenes of the operations where she worked with both Austin and Nixon, the other point in their love triangle. That being the case, this is a pretty intense read with almost non-stop action and revelations.

I’ve loved Sam and Austin together from the start. It’s been obvious throughout that they share a deep, unbreakable connection that is explained in more detail in this book. I have to say that the information added to this relationship took it to a whole new level for me. It’s almost like they’ve always been a part of each other and it was only other people toying with their minds to make them forget their respective pasts that have kept them apart. Even when they’re separated, they still share a psychic connection that makes it possible for them to communicate over long distances. This being the case, when they’re together, their love is almost all-consuming and very emotional. The one thing about them that might weird readers out a bit is that in this book they begin to experience deaths together, and this raises such intense emotions within them that it’s a major sexual turn-on. Throughout most of the story, I wasn’t overly bothered by this, because I viewed it as similar to the phenomena of some people engaging in sex as an affirmation of life after going through the experience of losing a loved one. It’s just that Sam and Austin kind of take this to a whole different level by being inside the minds of those who were dying before making love. It wasn’t until the end that I started to feel a bit uncomfortable with it, because things seem to go a little too far at that point. But I shall try to wait until the final book to make a full judgment call on that.

For most of the previous book, Sam had believed herself to be married to Nixon, who was also Austin’s best friend. What she didn’t know is that he’d engineered the whole thing in an attempt to save her from herself, or so he said, and that it was nothing but a pretend marriage. Once again, Nixon plays a big role in the story, especially after Sam and Austin are separated again. Sam is finally married to Austin, but Nixon is most definitely not giving up. There is no real love triangle anymore except in Nixon’s own mind, but he’s extremely persistent, particularly once Austin is out of the picture. In the previous book, he was pretty much the consummate nice guy, who seemed to have good intentions even if his actions were a little misguided. Late in this story, however, we get a few short chapters from his first-person POV, which show that his motives aren’t entirely pure, and in fact, he might be behind some of the things that are happening. Just how deep his involvement goes, though, I’m not sure yet. I’ll just say that I didn’t like him as much in this second installment as I had in the first. I’m very intrigued to find out where things go with his character, because he’s much more powerful than anyone realizes.

There were a lot of things that I loved about Embracing Death, most especially learning more about Austin’s and Sam’s past. This added a lot of depth to their characters and their relationship. I also enjoyed that we’re finally let in on how the two respective teams of people with powers were formed and given a little background on who the driving forces are behind many of the events in these books so far. There are still things left unknown, though, so I look forward to getting that final piece of the puzzle. Right up until the end, I was planning on giving the book keeper status, but as with the previous book, it left me a little unsatisfied. At least Feeling Death had what I would call a positive HEA, or at least HFN, ending with Sam and Austin reuniting, even though she was completely messed up with her death addiction. But in Embracing Death, we don’t even get that. In fact, things are even more messed up than before. In the epilogues of both books, Sam breaks the fourth wall by talking directly to the reader, and I have to say that based on what she tells us, I’m starting to doubt whether there will be a positive ending to the series at all. Since I mostly enjoyed both of the first two books, I’m kind of hooked on the series. I also can’t stand to leave things unfinished, so I’ll definitely be reading the final book, Becoming Death, soon. However, I’ll be doing so with a healthy dose of trepidation while keeping my fingers and toes crossed for some kind of happy resolution to the romance that doesn’t result in Sam and Austin becoming the serial killers that many of the other empaths in these books so far have become.

„It was obvious that there were layers upon layers of lies that I needed to peel away with everyone else. I just hoped the truth didn’t turn out to be more horrible than the lies I’d been living with.”

The quote above is the Embracing Death quintessence, but I'll start by recommending to you to not skip the first book of the series because it is the one that provides motivation and gives weight to everything that follows. The discerned threads at the end of the first volume only reveal another bundle of lies, plans and hidden interests or those you trust or should be on your side. And maybe some of them are on your side, but not as you wanted.

„The heart wants what the heart wants, and sometimes we don’t get much of a say in it.” Damn him for throwing my words back at me.”

Embracing Death takes place on two distinct levels, but closely related in which Sam and Austin are already victims and seem to become executioners. Sam's struggle to resist the death addiction will cause an unexpected (or not) victim that can bring destruction to many, but that also represent the realization of some plans that have been started long ago. Plans in which Sam, Austin and many others are simply pawns, simple currency. The noble or at least good intentions were discarded long ago, if they ever existed, and betrayal comes from those that you least expect.

Regarding Sam / Austin relationship, the author manages to get readers’ empathy who will quiver for the tragic of their love. Tragic brought not only by the macabre set in which they must evolve, but also by what seems to have been predestined to them. I do not know if it has relevance for other readers, but my opinion is that the intimate dosage of the first volume was better. The intimate scenes are necessary to highlight the characters feelings, but the string is stretched a little bit too much. I’m not some prude, but these too many hot memories tend, in my opinion, to emphasize the physical side of the Sam / Austin relationship in the real detriment of the spiritual one. But that's my opinion and I saw that many other readers have appreciated the scenes.

I understand Nixon too. His love seems as strong as Austin’s, and his actions that are more or less decent start to make sense after special past “medical” events and some hidden skills are revealed. He is in a constant struggle to change the future, marked by the predictions that come true even if the initial decisions that led to them have been changed. In addition, the quote below also fits perfectly to him.

„If you sit in the dark long enough, your eyes will adjust. If you completely immerse yourself in death, eventually it will welcome you home into its sweet embrace.”

With powerful emotions, with candid self-assessment, changes, unexpected deaths and events, with an alternation of reality, of the past through lost memories, and also through death euphoria, the pages pass, and you will not feel how you reached to the end of the book. I would say that Embracing Death has set the stage for the final volume. Alea iacta est, the decisions were taken. The struggle for survival it’s to come.

"If you’re looking for a happy ending to this story—my story, I would recommend that you stop reading now. [...]
I’m not a hero, not even a dark hero. I am the villain of this story. I just didn’t see it until it was too late. [...] I will burn the world down to get him back and that’s just what I intend to do."

I received this ARC to give an honest review.
If I could give this book more than 5 stars I sure enough would. But alas I can not and it is a 5 star rating.
Damn D.T. does it again, she captured me into this story of hell that Sammy and Austin have to go through and of course that caused me not to put it down. But with the way the ending was left I do wonder if we would be getting a book three? There was so much that I loved within this book that I honestly feel as if I say too much I would be giving it all away.
Let's just say things don't seem to be what they really are and it may be to late to realize this for some of the characters.
Sam gets her memories back and let's just say she is surrounded by secrets that I am surprised she is holding on to sanity as good as she has.
But damn when is Nixon going to get a flippin clue that Sam DOES NOT WANT HIM! Goodness, but I think there is something more underlining here. But that is just my thought.
Austin is one of those bad boy type characters that makes you just wet while reading about his sex scenes with Sammy. And I LOVE the way he calls her his Sammy Girl, it's just so cute.
You get more back story within the story line of Sam and Austin and it all makes sense now. I found myself on one than more occasion going WHAT! I totally didn't see that coming and I was surprised at some of the revealings of the characters. D.T. has a way with words, and characters that will have you wanting to more and more. Not all is what is seems with the characters, some are more shady than others, and Sam is just now finding this out. But will it help her or hurt her in the end?
How far will you go for the person you love?

One of my favorite parts that I did not know Sam had in her. I mean I knew she could rock Austin's world but damn she got the balls to do something I could not even dream about doing.
'I shut him up by straddling his face. I laughed at the surprise that registered in his eyes,'

My favorite quotes:
"You're an asshole." I hissed. "Yeah, but I'm your asshole, and you love me."
"I love him, Nixon, with all of my heart. I'm sorry that I hurt you, but the heart wants what the heart wants."
"What the fuck? Do you just carry syringes with drugs around in them to knock people ou...."

Now I highly suggest you read book one Feeling Death, so you can get a feel of the characters and their story and how all of this has begun. This is a dark paranormal read that I say you need to read but for 18+.

When I first started reading this series, I'll be honest, I was just plain confused. It took a long while into the first book to really understand everything that was going on with Samantha and the people around her. However, once everything was flushed out and you really saw everything that was the truth and what were lies, the story made sense and it got good real fast. Now heading into the second book Embracing Death, it really made this story better in my eyes. You understood who the characters were and what they can do, while still leaving a lot of question marks to be left solved in this book. The Embracing Death world is a hot and steamy one but it definitely has a lot of WTF moments in it.

Samantha is an empath, meaning she can feel everyone's emotions around her. She is part of a law enforcement team that is made up of people like her that have different gifts that allow them to solve crimes in a different way than normal cops. However, Samantha's power is starting to become dangerous. The dark side is that the feelings she gets from death, murder and pain are fueling something dark inside of her and she is on the edge of becoming something bad. On top of that she has to deal with a love triangle situation, along with the idea that the people she thought she knew deceived her and although she isn't going crazy yet, she might be well on her way there. Her attraction with Austin is heating up to nuclear levels, but even that relationship is in question at this point. Sam has a lot to deal with coming out of the first book and Embracing Death takes her on another emotional ride.

This is the fourth book I've read by D.T. Dyllin, and let me tell you, girl knows how to make it hot. You can feel the sizzle between Sam and Austin coming off the page. Add in some really great story telling about deception and supernatural abilities and you won't be able to put this book down. Plus, this book left me reeling for the third book, RIGHT NOW! I can't wait to see what happens next!

I honestly don't know where to start with this one. That I loved it is not the question here, its how do I articulate it that is the problem.

I love easy reads, books that you can just slip into with no effort required and for the most part this is what Dyllin brings to Sam's story. Because it IS easy to slip into Sam's head and be taken along for the ride. But don't think that this book requires no effort to read it, the story itself is not something you can just cruise through. This book demands to be read properly. You NEED to give it your 100% or you my friend will end up lost and confused. This book has you second guessing everyone. It's been a while since I read Feeling Death, so when I first started reading this I was a little confused as I had forgotten little snippets of information, but there are snippets of information that jog your memory and it's not long before you're back up to speed.

I love the relationship between Sam and Austin. I love that it is twisted in way that is hard for outsiders to understand, but is nonetheless oh so very beautiful. And the sexually chemistry between them is through the roof. So much so that thanks to their growing powers they don't even have to be in the same room as each other to get the other one hot.

Like Feeling Death, Embracing Death is not told in a straight line. I mean we do have a beginning, a middle and an end. But we also have many flashbacks. Flashbacks from the first book and flashbacks from Sam's earlier memories. Some of which give you an 'OMG really? Now that makes sense' moment. And it makes you realise that people have been meddling for much longer than you originally think. What this means for me, is I am now chomping at the bit waiting for the final instalment in the Death Trilogy. Because if the first two books are anything to go by, it promises to be Epic. No pressure or anything ;-)

Sam finally has her memories back but there are still secrets that she needs to learn in order to get the full picture of what's going on. Just when she thought things were going to be settling down, her life gets flipped upside down. Austin is pinned for murders and it's up to Sam to prove his innocence.

I will be honest that I had some issues with Feeling Death. I think primarily because Sam had a cheating problem but I'm glad to say that's not the case in this book. She's finally got her real husband back and nothing can break the bond.

D.T. definitely flipped the tables on my view of Nixon as well. I can't believe I felt sorry for him in Feeling Death but in this one you start to see his true colors. The dude is crazy. A certified psycho with an obsession for Sam.

"My end game was to do whatever needed to be done to make Sam mine."

Not only do we have the storyline of Sam's empath powers causing her to become addicted to death, but her addiction is now transferring to Austin which poses a huge problem. Plus, the leader of their group goes missing, there's a serial killer on the loose and there's the fact that Sam is supposed to be the "villain" of the story when she's the one trying to save people. There was so much going on in this story that there was no room to be bored.

I honestly have no idea where the author is going to take this story next or how it will all play out in the end but I am strapped in a ready for the rest of the ride. She's made me flip on characters that I was sympathetic to and made me reevaluate everything I thought from the previous book. Not many authors can make me feel like I just got off of the Tilt-A-World but D.T. has managed to spin all my feelings around and leave me disoriented... and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Sam and Austin are back together but things are far from easy. Death still hunts them, secrets keep coming to light and we discovered that their lives have been manipulated for a long time. Embracing Death is the second book in The Death Trilogy and as its predecessor is fast, sexy and enjoyable.

The exciting, never-ending and turbulent trio of Sam, Austin and Nixon continues. Both men love her and would do anything to make her happy but she has other plans.

Sam is our stubborn leading lady, with a chaotic mind, strong feelings and a personality that keeps surprising me. Austin is now in a vulnerable place and Nixon reveals sides of him that I didn’t like.

The characters keep evolving and this time we have the chance to see a glimpse of Nixon’s point of view. The writer does a great job developing them and I can’t wait to read how their stories end.

This book is focused in emotions which for me is amazing. Dara makes an incredible work creating a believable, solid and powerful world. It is dark, wild, and dangerous but somehow it makes you want more. I never thought that reading about how death feels could be so entertaining.

Embracing Death has less sex scenes than the first book but I think the temperature this book has is appropriate for the story because we are dealing with darker subjects. Don’t get me wrong, there is sex and when it appears is intense, well written and entertaining.

Overall, Embracing Death is the perfect sequel because it is full of surprises. Every page brings new information and you never know where the story is going.

Fast, engaging, well written and sexy this book is everything I expected it to be.

Austin and sam's journey to discover the truth continues in this next installment. We follow murder trails and clues along with them and members of their team. But nothing is what it seems!! This book takes you so deep into the dark you dont even realise it until its too late! Bam! your sucked into espionage ( with a difference), murder, lies, misdirection and a drug like high. And its just getting more interesting. Nixon is still hiding things from everyone but they're leaking out bit by bit. You get glimpses into his mind but its only enough to make you want to know more. The twists will blow your mind.. The passion between austin and sam will make you wish it was you :) As i was getting right into the story suddenly it was over, i sat stunned. At first i was like no way, then i thought you evil evil woman lol. It was at that point i started to see how deep into the dark i had been pulled... And now i have to read the next book!!! As i said in my review of feeling death, its like a game of chess, where all the players are assembled and i meant it. The end game is near and the people, their reasons, the pawns will intrigue you, you will love them, hate them and wonder what your missing in the clues provided. This is darker than book one but oh so good. Be prepared though because seriously this book really is a massive mind.....!!!! Enjoy :)

With this trilogy you really need to concentrate the entire way through or you will end up confused and lost! There is so much going on, that it keeps your mind buzzing the entire way through, with plenty WTF moments thrown in as well.

This is a hard review to put into words, I could not put the book down and I love stepping into the mind of Sam and her love for Austin. This book completely messes with your head, but at the same time draws you in so much! I cannot wait to sink my teeth into book 3!
