New York Times bestselling author Carla Neggers delivers an irresistible story about love, family and finding a place to call home.
Marine archaeologist Charlotte Bennett is no stranger to risk, but her dives into sunken wreckage are always meticulously planned. However, being the maid of honor in her cousin Samantha's English wedding gives her a new perspective on her life as a nomad who's given up on romance altogether. Though an encounter with roguish wedding guest Greg Rawlings leaves her unsettled, the other people she meets make a trip to the tranquil town of Knights Bridge, Massachusetts, enticing. Acting on impulse, Charlotte offers to house-sit at Red Clover Inn while Sam and Justin Sloan are away on their honeymoon.
The quaint inn isn't open to the public yet, and Charlotte will have quiet time to plan her next project. It might also give her a chance to see how her cousin found love and a sense of family. But the peace is immediately disrupted when Greg shows up at the inn. The Diplomatic Security Service agent lives a dangerous life, and he, too, wants to clear his head before his next assignment. Juggling work, raising his two teenage children and nursing a wounded heart has left him jaded, and the last thing he expects is to find himself falling for the willful Charlotte. As the attraction between them flares, Charlotte realizes she might be in too deep. And each of them must decide if they can put love first before it's too late.
Carla Neggers is the New York Times bestselling author of the Sharpe & Donovan series featuring Boston-based FBI agents Emma Sharpe and Colin Donovan, and the popular Swift River Valley series set in the small, fictional New England town of Knights Bridge. With many bestsellers to her credit, Carla loves to write now as much as she did when she climbed a tree at age eleven with a pad and pen and spun stories perched on her favorite branch.
A native New Englander, Carla and her husband divide their time between their hilltop home in Vermont, a sofa bed at their kids' places in Boston and various inns, hotels and hideaways on their travels, frequently to Ireland.

The author spent so much time continuing the lives of characters from previous books that there really didn't feel like much of a plot to this one. It turned into a long, shaggy dog story with "plot twists" that turned out to be hardly anything at all. I really struggled to finish this one.
In this latest novel in the Swift River Valley series Neggers once again takes us back to Knights Bridge with its beautiful landscape, intriguing inn and small-town charm.
The writing is straightforward. The characters are strong, dependable and pensive. And the plot which seems to get a little bogged down in the first half of the story with information into all the characters and relationships between them definitely picks up in the second half and is quite compelling, mysterious, engaging and romantic.
Overall this is an enjoyable, entertaining read and fans of Carla Neggers and the Swift River Valley series will love not only this new addition to the Bennett and Sloan clan but will really appreciate the opportunity to catch up with some of the beloved characters from previous novels.
Thank you to Harlequin Books for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.
This was a very enjoyable read. I won my copy through Goodreads Giveaway. Since this was the last book in the series, I will have to go back and read the other six.
A destination wedding, an awkward first meeting, and two people healing from recent troubling experiences, Red Clover Inn had depth of emotions both heartfelt and heartrending.
I’ve read several of the Swift River Valley books by Carla Neggers and was happy to see that she brought us back to this group of characters and beautiful little Knights Bridge, Massachusetts. And as always, the descriptions of the area and the seasons in the Northeast were on-point, take it from this native New Englander! But it was even more fun this time around as we were taken to the Cotswolds in England and even to Scotland for the romantic wedding and honeymoon of previous characters Samantha Bennett & Justin Sloan. (See book three, Cider Brook, for their story)
I love this author and this series. However the last two books have been lackluster. This book felt like a writing exercise of telling not showing with the characters. The readers were constantly being told the backstory from the other books. The crisscross between Knightsbridge and Scotland heaped more of what the reader needs to know behind the scenes. I missed the quaintness of New England that Neggers captured so well in the earlier tales. Alas it was a miss for me.
Charlotte bolted on her wedding day to Tommy. Leaving him at the altar. After that she hated weddings. When her cousin, Samantha, got married she asked Charlotte to be her Maid of Honor, reluctantly she agreed. The night before the wedding she meets Greg a cocky guest who enjoyed bantering with Charlotte. Right away Greg is interested in her but he appears drunk and just plain rough around the edges. Greg is going through changes in his life in his work as a Diplomatic Security Service Agent he's about to be promoted to a desk job and he's not to happy about it. Charlotte, on the other hand is struggling with her job change as a diver who had a accident that affected her health and is told no more diving. As the story unfolds Charlotte is asked to babysit Red Clover Inn and unknown to her Greg is going to be watching it too! The two were scheduled to be alone in the Inn. To make things a little more interesting Charlotte is asked to search the inn by a elderly lady for a secret box. I loved how Charlotte and Greg acted with each other. It was a fun read and I could see something like this happening. I also liked that the book wasn't loaded with a lot of sex stuff but just a normal story although there was at a little in the book towards the end (I just skipped over that part). It was a sweet romance that gave you the warm heartfelt fuzzies. I think this would make a great movie! I did receive this book for review purposes and no monies were exchanged.
This is a fun, somehow calming, relaxing romance. Charlotte and Greg meet in England at a wedding, then find themselves both recruited (separately) to house-sit the new couples inn in Knight's Bridge. I like that the relationship starts without sudden sparks of passion or anger . . . but rather just two people meeting, teasing one another, slowly getting to know each other. Neggers has a unique tempo and writing style that pulls you into a story, giving you all the important pieces and making you feel as though you're there but without too much detail to slow you down. I can envision the setting and the even the people interacting with one another . . . and yet sometimes, we get more for the meetings or conversations we don't see. Neggers uses secrets (which we all have) to build just enough tension in her stories to keep the reader intrigued--without there being grand mysteries, murders, or villains. She is truly a master of her craft. In this book, I enjoyed seeing Charlotte and Greg work through their individual life-changing events even as they tried to figure out if they had a place in each other's lives. I liked that we didn't get the "whole" story from one discussion or dialogue, but rather we saw pieces of each backstory as various friends, family members, coworkers talked and pieced it all together.

This is a story about love, family and finding a place to call home. Charlotte is a Marine Archaeologist who is the maid of honor at her cousin Samantha’s wedding. Charlotte is also keeping secret her recent leave of absence from her job due to a very bad case of decompression illness from saving an inexperienced diver on a dive. At the wedding she meets Greg Rawlings, a Diplomatic Service Security Agent. Greg is also coming to terms with his own life changing job experience. After being shot on assignment Greg received a promotion and is getting ready to go to Washington DC. Both Charlotte and Greg end up in Knightsbridge, MA staying at the Red Clover Inn owned by Charlotte’s cousin and her new husband. Greg and Charlotte have time together and with Greg’s children and a relationship begins. This is a very good book. I enjoyed the banter between Charlotte and Greg. I liked how Greg gave Charlotte space and time to tell what was going on with her. I liked that they didn’t rush the relationship but let it evolve naturally. The mystery associated with Evelyn Sloan added to the story. I would definitely read more books by this author and this series.
Red Clover Inn, a Sweet River Valley novel, by Carla Neggers, is a charming read. You may want to adopt these fascinating characters. There's a bit of everything to draw you in: intrigue, love interest, family dynamics, marine archaeology, deep-sea diving, and even The Diplomatic Security Service. Charlotte Bennett is no stranger to risk. Still, at such a vulnerable time in her life, saying yes to be her cousin's maid of honour, is the last thing she needs. Fresh from a life-changing diving incident (not shared with family, colleagues, or friends) combined with a not-too- distant close call with a disastrous fiancé, Charlotte is in no fit state for the beauty of English countryside nuptials. Enter roguish wedding guest, Greg, with his own secrets and a deep need for time to heal, and the complications unfold. Red Clover Inn is a treat. Gwendolyn Broadmore, author, Life Came to a Standstill.
A chance meeting between Charlotte and Greg at a British Pub was the unexpected beginning of their story. She was in town for her cousins wedding and Greg was there with his friend. After the wedding she left for her home in Edinburgh Scotland and he back to the US as a Diplomatic Security Service agent in Washington DC. They didn’t expect to ever see each other again but without them knowing they had each been asked to stay at the Red Clover Inn owned y her cousin until she returned from her honeymoon. Charlotte was surprised to find Greg sitting on the porch of the inn when she arrived.
The writing was fluid the characters varied and interesting. Charlotte and Greg were both moving on from the positions they had held which gave them something in common. I was entertained throughout and enjoyed this very much. I loved reading about the town of Knights Bridge and the folks who lived there.
A sarcastic federal agent meets a serious marine archaeologist at a wedding. Although they are worlds apart in their demeanor, they find themselves attracted to each other. They both end up at the Red Clover Inn in Knights Bridge, Massachusetts. Both agreed to house-sit for the honeymooning owners. The beginning attraction blossoms into something deeper as they find love and contentment in their country surroundings.
A cute story! Loved the wise-cracking Greg and serene Charlotte gave it back to him. Great characters.
Loved this one, both main characters have things in their lives that they need to deal with especially the lady. They meet at a wedding and end up being asked by diff family members to house sit at the Red Clover inn until the bride & groom come back from their honeymoon. The Inn is in a small town so not a lot to do but they find ways to entertain themselves. This is a mild mystery but in the main a love story, don't want to give to much away and ruin it for those wanting to read the story. However if you like a nice love story with a little mystery thrown in this book may appeal to you.
I was very disappointed by this book. It seemed more like a novella or a collection of short stories than a full novel. The book was short but yet followed 3 separate stories - the wedding/honeymoon of Justin Sloan and Samantha Bennett, the search for a time capsule left in the Red Clover Inn and the relationship between Charlotte Bennett and Greg Rawlins. None of these stories kept my interest and by the end I was just reading it to finish it.
I love the Swift River Series. each book Carla writes, she weaves the story around the town and the people you already met. she isn't wordy about the previous characters, but includes them into the new story seamlessly. I love how she has them meeting in Ireland, and returning to Swift River to meet again and fall in love. Carla writes a beautiful love story, without getting mushy, or including raunchy sex into her story. thanks for a wonderful, heartwarming Story!
Red Clover Inn features professional main characters who already know who they are in life, and meeting each other is just icing to the cake. It is a fresh breath of air with a small town setting. I've loved every book in this series. Neggers gives glimpses of characters from previous books in each new book. It is always a joy to check in with them! I'm looking forward to the next story she writes.
This was an excellent book. Ms Neggers never fails to deliver a fast passed attention grabbing book.
Both Charlotte and Greg need a break from life and volunteer to babysit the inn that is not yet open. Nether one know that other volunteered. They met at Charlotte's cousins wedding and Greg's Best Friend.
I enjoyed how their friendship evolved into romance and the involvement of Greg's Son and Daughter.
Marine archaeologist Charlotte Bennett meets Greg Rawlings, a diplomatic security agent, at her cousin Samantha's wedding in England. The two get off to a rocky start but are attracted from the first. When Charlotte and Greg meet up again at Red Clover Inn in Knights Bridge, MA, they find common ground. This gentle, charming romance is about two people at crossroads in their lives. I enjoyed it very much as I have all the novels in Carla Neggers' Swift River Valley series.

This is the seventh book in the Swift River Valley series. It is a light romantic romp about two couples who are situated on different sides of the world. One couple is on their honeymoon in Scotland and the new couple had met at their wedding and are going to house sit an inn in the States. Funny , romantic and whimsical.
Why did I listen to so many books from the same series with the same reader when I don't like the reader at all and the books are just fun to make fun of? Well, maybe because they are fun to make fun of and put me to sleep. Also, a lack of originality and not feeling up to finding a new book from the library.
OK story. Charlotte comes across an exhusted Greg the night before a family wedding in England. Greg is headed to Knights Bridge MA to rest and recover, Charlotte shows up to do the same. Lots of back and forth between them. This is book 7 as part of the Swift River Valley series- I was able to read this book without a need to understand the world.
This one is a keeper! Greg Rawlings was amazing in Echo Lake, and it was fun to see him again. Charlotte not-Char-not-Lottie Bennett was a wonderful surprise. Finding a way to give these transatlantic folk time enough to see their possibilities was a neat trick.
I love that she intertwines characters from previous books in with new characters. This time the cousin of Samantha the pirate hunter's wedding, to his grandmother back in Knights Bridge. This wasn't as suspenseful as many of her books but was a great summer read.
I liked this book about an underwater archaeologist who can no longer dive. She'd met a federal agent at her cousin's wedding. They met again when they were both house sitting in Knights Bridge. Both had major life changes to deal with.
She meets this American at a wedding in Scotland. She could not dive anymore. She falls in love with this DSS at a the wedding. She meets him back in Knights Bridge in Massachusetts. Found a time-capsule for her cousin's grandmother. She decide to fall in love with DSS.
I read this book without having read the rest of the series which was a mistake. Most of the story seems to be references to previous plot lines. That said I did like the characters and the writing....just start at the beginning.
