If the Alliance’s operative reaches the Outer Rim before Mal and the Serenity’s crew can rescue their captive friend, there simply won’t be a rescue. An uneasy partnership is struck, preparations are underway, and there is no room for any unknowns . . . * iZombie creator Chris Roberson writes the continuing adventures of Mal and crew.
Chris Roberson is the co-creator with artist Michael Allred of iZombie, the basis of the hit CW television series, and the writer of several New York Times best-selling Cinderella miniseries set in the world of Bill Willingham’s Fables. He is also the co-creator of Edison Rex with artist Dennis Culver, and the co-writer of Hellboy and the B.P.R.D, Witchfinder, Rise of the Black Flame, and other titles set in the world of Mike Mignola’s Hellboy. In addition to his numerous comics projects, Roberson has written more than a dozen novels and three dozen short stories. He lives with a teenager, two cats, and far too many books in Portland, Oregon.
Well that didn't really live up to my expectations... they can't quite get River's personality right and the story is going a bit off the wall. But made the next issue will make it worth it. The story just wasn't very original.
I never thought I'd rate a Firefly book so low, but this one was a real disappointment. The artwork is so vague and poorly executed I can only tell River, Kaylee, and Inara apart by how much their breasts are exposed (none, maybe a little, and wtf, respectively), and the story feels like endless filler. If I weren't such a die-hard fan I wouldn't buy the next issue. (But I am, so I'm already committed through my local shop for the next two.)
I am not a graphic novel reader, I am a Serenity Follower
I just want to keep reading the story, want to know the lives of my favorite characters keep going on. I miss my Firefly fix. This helps ease it a little. I want so much more, its just not fair stupid shows live on and this died too young. Fox really F!#coed up, we are one - a cult for a GREAT TV SHOW THAT FOX SCREWED THEMSELVES BY NOT RUNNING FOR MANY YEARS.
Not a strong story at all, not the Firefly dialogue I know and love. Side stories have nothing to do with the plot, story-wise or thematically. Just really weak writing. As much as I'm hungry for new Firefly, this leaves me unsatisfied.
The whole River and evil female soldiers with outfits out of Wonder Woman might get old really fast. Also, I kind of hate the random call backs to the show, some a sweet, some awkward, you need the right balance for it to not be pandering.
There's just no other way to describe how I felt after reading this. The title implies River Tams, my favorite character after Captain Mal, will be the focus of the story. You don't even really know River is present until the final pages of the story.
No power in the 'verse can stop River. But a few girls in skin tight costumes can.
Jayne showed one of his few redeeming qualities besides being a crack shot in this story.
The artwork required the reader to really stretch to be certain who the characters are meant to be. One reviewer described it best when stating the three females, River, Kaylee and Inara, could only be differentiated by the amount of cleavage displayed (none, a little now and then and a lot).
I hate to give anything Firefly related such a low score, but it rates this score. I will buy the next installment because I'm a dedicated Browncoat, but that's the only reason.
Jayne, trying to so hard. I don't always love Jayne, for what are probably obvious reasons, but I'm loving him so much so far in this series. And the end of this -- wow, intense.
