Gerry Lindgren takes readers through the growth process in distance running, from the back of the pack wimp to one of the world’s best. The book chronicles the rise of Gerry Lindgren from a last-place runner on his high school cross-country to the best high school distance runner of all time. Runners and non-runners alike will find inspiration and motivation in Lindgren’s book.
I read this book because I needed a “sports” for my yearly reading challenge, and my husband, a runner, had it on hand and suggested it. It was really cool to watch Lindgren’s progression and hear his inner thoughts - the same ones we all have of not being good enough, regret, and how to overcome defeat. His straightforward attitude is motivating, and his tips for being a good runner are great overall that could be applied to anything. Three stars only because as a non-runner, sometimes it felt tedious to read through all the lingo.
