In a ancient realm of magic, love has a destiny of its own...Abandoned at birth on the shores of a sacred loch, Bryna never knew her family or true heritage. She exists as a slave in the fortress of a Roman invader, her only friend an ancient, blind Druidess, Derina. Her life is bleak and without hope. And then Derina tells her she must rescue the prisoner in the dungeon. Tynan lies naked, chained to a cold, stone slat, both body and mind tortured by the Sorcerer, evil ally of the Roman Lord. The Sorcerer's purpose? To discover if this one, at last, might be the Dark Chieftain, the fulfiller of prophecy. Even deeper in the dungeon, trapped by magical enchantment, are the faeries. They await their liberator, the one who has been prophesied. And the Dark Chieftain awaits a destiny of his own...mating with the territorial goddess...a union that will set the land, and many loves, right. First, however, he must gain his freedom and find her. And Bryna is on her way to the dungeon...
A gifted storyteller, R. Garland Gray beckons readers into her unique worlds, weaving passionate, compelling tales that entertain and escape the ordinary.
Born and raised in a closely-knit family in the Bronx, she went on to study literature and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Literature and Communications. She lives with her husband in a small country home and enjoys the simple things, like visiting with friends and family, morning walks in a meadow, and riding on the back of her husband's motorcycle.
The book was fantastic. I had a hard time putting it down. I loved the mystical world of the Fey and faeries, although thanks to reading Monings "Highlander and Fever Series" previously I was already familiar with the legends.
I really enjoyed this book. I loved all of the imagery. The juxtaposition between the two words, fey and human, along with the descriptions was wonderful. I enjoyed her first book, Fey Born, immensely, but liked this one even more. I am looking forward to reading the third book in this series White Fells. I am hooked.
Story was good idea, but just didn't catch me like other paranormal romances do. Poor Bryna eluded rape 3 sepatate times. That's not really my cup of tea. Tynan was an overbearing ass imo.
As fantasies go, this is v. good. One just must keep in mind that there will be some semblance of purple prose. Rather fitting I suppose, seeing as how the H has amethyst eyes.
So the H has some sort of weird... mating thing whereupon he delivers a glorified hickey to the chosen mate's jaw. Well and good except that... he's somewhat under a spell, therefore the mate may not be the mate. Clear as mud, right? So essentially, that's what the book is about - his falling for her, trying to claim her without getting the faeries POed at him (since he must needs have their approval for his choice of mate), all the while dodging dear old dad who blew it when HE was supposed to claim a faery mate, and a cousin who has suddenly decided HE should be THE ONE.
The cover is the real weakness of this book - the dude's head looks like someone who (still) resides in his mother's basement, the body looks decidedly fake, and the "markings" look like someone squiggled on the book with a metallic Sharpie.

I did not really think much of this book, for some reason the story seemed to have been written and then published without the author reading back on what he had wrote. Some events happened without the reader knowing, this happened because the event that should have transpired before a specific event did not occur. one example for instance was about the character Eamon. After the whole fight for Bryna, the book never mentioned that he dissapeared until later in one sentence it let on that they could not find him after months of him gone and that senrence appears right before the scene that Eamon reappeapres and "kidnapps" Bryna. lol, i don't know, I think this book could have been revised a little better than it was. The story itself on first glance was okay though.
This was a barely acceptable fantasy-type historical romance. The characters were kind of predictable (especially for someone who has read so many fantastical/paranormal romances). It did offer some new notions of the celtic fairies, which was interesting, but overall it just wasn't enough to truly grab me.
I'll tell you what did grab me, though... and not in a good way. The man on the cover of this book is UGLY! Everytime my husband saw me reading it, he would say "How can you read a romance book with THAT on cover??" LOL
I really wish I could find more stories like this one. I loved the way the author brings you into this story and her world, paints this land with these ancient people and beings in it. You really get a good feeling of the things that are going on in this story. It is a good fantasy romance, with that erotic quality to it. A must read if you enjoy this type of read.
Bryna has such a kind heart, you only wish for her to be happy. I enjoyed reading this book. I found myself laughing and even shouting at it while I was reading. Very intertaining.
