A native of Southern California, Christine Pope has been writing stories ever since she commandeered her family’s Smith-Corona typewriter back in the sixth grade. Many reams of dead trees later, she’s happy to announce that her debut novel, Fringe Benefits, was published by Pink Petal Books on April 8, 2010. Her short fiction has appeared in Astonishing Adventures, Luna Station Quarterly, and the new journal of dark fiction, Dark Valentine. Her paranormal novella, Playing With Fire, was released on August 5, 2010.

While Fringe Benefits is a straight contemporary romance, she writes in a variety of genres, including paranormal romance, fantasy, horror, science fiction, and historical romance. She blames this on being easily distracted by bright, shiny objects, which could also account for the size of her shoe collection.

After spending many years in the magazine publishing industry, she now works as a freelance editor in addition to writing fiction. She lives with her husband and an explosively fluffy Pomeranian mix. Her house is pink, but don’t hold that against her.

Well, at least we didn't have to have a Chosen rescued from an evil djinn in this volume. I'm such a cynic that I can't believe that after carrying a grudge for thousands of years, Aldair will have a change of heart after spending one week with a human female. Not only is that a ridiculously short timespan but he didn't even initially express an interest in Jillian but held her in contempt for several days.

Just like Qadim is reformed after meeting Madison, now Aldair is changed from bad to good djinn by falling in love with Jillian. Uh huh.

Although I had intended to read all seven books back to back, the summary for Awoken indicates that yet another evil djinn, Hasan, will be redeemed after meeting a female that has inexplicably survived the cleansing of all non-Chosen humans. I can't bring myself to endure this repetition now, although I may read it when time has allowed the first six books to recede from memory. After all, I do love me some chiseled muscles.

Aldair has been such a character I've loved to hate in previous books that I wasn't sure if he could redeem himself! However as the story unfolded I felt myself thaw towards him. Was he a perfect angel? NO! But neither was he the complete pillock I'd labelled him previously!

Jillian has a lot to do with this redemption of Aldairs, although I also felt that whilst he may have been "forbidden fruit" to her, being a djinn, I also felt hat her own emotions towards him were also forbidden, at least in her eyes, She fells such guilt at her husbands death and her own survival, your heart just bleeds for her!

I loved they way they were brought together and how he slowly finds himself doing stuff for no other reason than to please her. It was also fabulous that the other Djinn and their chosen don't just accept him at his word and all is forgiven, it makes the ending that more believable. Great book and if you can read it all in one go!

Brilliant Series

Forbidden (The Djinn Wars Book 6) by Christine Pope. Jillian was working in the lab when an accident propelled her to the Djinn Outer Circles there a Djinn kept her alive until she could replicate the accident and send them back to earth. The Djinn Aldair and Jillian set up home and gradually fell in love then the Djinn from Santa Fe found them and took Aldair. Jillian followed as best she could only to find Aldair was imprisoned awaiting trial by the Elders.

I loved the fact that the hard dealing hateful Quadim learned what it was like to love and be loved.

The characters are flat and the storyline is boring.

The heroine has a weak character and is just so wishy-washy. The hero is a downright asshole and even he is pretty bland as an (ex?)villan. At least there's a dog but even the dog does nothing more than beg for scraps.

This author's books tend to be a little on the slower side and the speed up in the end but this is just dragging on unnecessarily.

Update: Made it to the end, didn't get much better.

It felt a little similar to book #5 in the series, but then I read them almost back to back which can't have helped.
