In Vol. 6, Valiant and Aleta journey to "The New World," a 16-month epic that allows Foster to draw some of his spectacular native Canadian backgrounds, and during which Aleta gives birth to Arn. Most of the rest of the book is taken up with the action-packed "The Mad King," during which Val, back at Camelot, confronts the evil, fat little King Tourien of Cornwall.
Coming on the tail end of the Fox film adaptation, this volume adapts about a half years worth of strips (Val and Vikings go to North America, and Prince Arn arrives) into a narrative novel. I haven't read this story line in it's original form, but I'm guessing someone pulled the caption text from the strip and fashioned it into the form seen here. Not all the Art is present, but plenty is rendered textless in various patterns surrounding the text as illustrations. Considering Foster's illustration-like design for the comic, this works fine---though one does miss the color especially when colors are mentioned.
Again, a bit weird at times, like the Indians thinking Aleta was a sun goddess, but still good overall. Valiant chases after and protects his wife from a ruthless kidnapper, and he gets a cute little son, born in the New World.
Funnily enough this audio adaption skips over book 11 of the graphic novel series and goes straight to book 12 'The New World'. Now I am missing the part of the story where Val takes Aleta back to Camelot to meet King Arthur and the knights. Looks like the only way to get this is to track down a copy in paperback or hardback form. Once again, the narrator goes a great job of taking the information from the comic strip and turning it into an audiobook.
