Trent Summers keeps a smile on his face, even though he feels like he's dying inside. Since he was horribly knifed by a killer bear he's had trouble with anxiety and panic attacks. Knowing most of his friends are shifters and immune to such things doesn't help. Mace's mating with Roan gives him some hope, but a mate of his own is just a pipe dream. In the meantime, he has to put aside his fears and help his friends find rogue vampires - not exactly a cure for stress. Prince Alexi Vandermot is getting more than a little pissed off at his coven leader. There are rogue vampires in town and he's ready to hunt them down. The problem is, his cousin keeps saying no. Things aren't improved when the police come to call, bringing a consultant with them. Shifters are one thing, but Alexi is floored to find the consultant is his mate...human, scared and straight. Claiming a mate is one thing; keeping him safe is another. When the rogues are found to have family ties to the coven and one of them fancies a bite out of Trent, the coven and the pack have to work together to make sure the body count doesn't get any higher. When problems start to erupt inside of the coven as well, Alexi wonders if he'll ever have any time to get to know his anxious mate. This book is M/M, contains graphic content and coarse language. Trent suffers from panic attacks which some people might find a trigger and keep an eye on Kalel; he's taken to stealing hats.
Lisa Oliver had been writing non-fiction books for years when visions of half dressed, buff men started invading her dreams. Unable to resist the lure of her stories, Lisa decided to switch to fiction books, and now stories about her men clamor to get out from under her fingertips. When Lisa is not writing, she is usually reading with a cup of tea always at hand. Her grown children and grandchildren sometimes try and pry her away from the computer and have found that the best way to do it, is to promise her chocolate. Lisa will do anything for chocolate. Lisa loves to hear from her readers and other writers. You can friend her on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/lisaoliverauthor), or email her directly at yoursintuitively@gmail.com. Another wonderful read by Lisa Oliver. I loved the MCs, the plot and the villain. Even Hugo kind of grew on me! It was total fun for me. First, all the characters from previous books made their appearance and they all got into some action. The whole vampire council/snobberfest was awesome. Love it when some hoity toity vampires are brought down a peg or two. And Jude...oh boy, the king of idiocy and misunderstanding! Did he get things wrong! Note to self: make sure your kids actually understand what you mean when you are talking to them!
It was funny, intense and enjoyable read! *fangirl time*
4.5 stars. Trent's GFY story was so much better than the one for Mace. Trent wanted a mate, was emotionally available, and wasn't bothered that Alexi was a man. There was good relationship development and uninhibited passionate sex. I really enjoyed both MCs.
Hugo was a flakey mess and didn't quite totally redeem himself. Carlos and Patrice were a fun couple. Omega Roan showed his strong backbone.
I remember discovering Lisa Oliver in 2020 when I first jumped into MM fated mates romance, and being sad that I was unable to afford any of the platforms her books were on. My high school self would've been so excited to know that they'd have KU and Kobo Plus, and would be so overwhelmed with MM romances in the future that they wouldn't know what to do with them all.
The first few novels I read of hers were admittedly not from an official website/platform, so I'm glad I can finally support her monetarily.
Oliver's books look like they were written quickly, and each romance often follows the same formula. That being said, her worlds are extremely nostalgic for me and I love all the unnecessary drama and miscommunication the characters go through. I really liked the relationship between Alexi and Trent but I felt like it was super rushed -- even for fated mates standards. I would've loved to see more time spent with Trent coming to terms with the supernatural mate bond after solely dating women (and being a human himself!!), but I guess it was nice that he took easily to the idea of a man being his mate. Don't Bite is an extremely quick read (because the MCs get together fairly quickly) and entertaining.
Oliver is one of those authors who's written dozens of books in the same series/world so it's not a huge deal if you jump around out of order (you won't miss too much).
I have to admit that these books are getting better and I'm enjoying them a lot more. There's still the problem with the non-American English, but it's not as rampant as before.
I already adored Trent after meeting him in book one, and I really wanted him to find his mate. Alexi I wasn't completely sure of but he grew on me. I would have liked more information regarding vampires, in general, and Alexi, specifically, although it appears the author threw out most of the standard lore.
I was very pleased to discover at the end that Captain Reynolds is getting his own story, I definitely think he deserves one and to have it be with an FBI agent, a shifter no less, should be pretty fun.
This was definitely a sweet, sexy, read, and I was happy for Trent and Alexi.
YES!!! Finally able to sit down and finish this fantastic addition to the Stockton series. I was also thrilled to hear we have one more book to look forward too!!!
I love a good Vampire book, and I was so happy when I saw Lisa Oliver also had written some Vampire books! I have been on a bing read with Lisa Oliver's book these last couple of days but I am in no way reading any of her books in order and this book is no different. So you can easily read this book as a stand-alone and still keep up and not feel like you are missing something.
Trent is a human who is part of the Stockton pack. He has watched all his packmates, and his best friend Mace find their mates and fall in love. He tries to be happy for them and never show them how alone and scared he is feeling. Living with his panic attacks by himself and just trying to support his pack the best way he can. So when he is picked out to go as a human mediator between the wolfs and vampires (who he just found out even existed), he put on his brave face and never mention how scared he is of standing in front of vampires. But what he didn't count on was one of the vampires to be his mate and that he has started the mating process without even knowing it because his mate didn't tell him they were mates!
Alexi was a four hundred years old vampire who was shocked to have found his mate and that mate being in a pack even though he is human. So even though he should have said something he just stands there looking when his mate run out of the house not knowing that he just ran away from his mate and that he will start to get very sick if they don't mate soon.
Alexi and Trent was an odd couple for me in some ways, but it worked out in the end. Alexi was no doubt the alpha in this relationship, but he always made room for Trent, so he didn't lose his manhood. Even though Trent had been attacked, (this happened in some of the other books in this series) he has changed a lot since. He is still a mans man and has never been one to bow down to anyone. But he is also scarred from the trauma.
So are you looking for a romantic suspense M/M book then I will for sure recommend this one
Maybe it's because I haven't read the rest of the series, but this was just ok for me. Never mind the fact that there are so many names thanks to the characters from previous books. That tripped me up in the beginning a bit then it wasn't so bad. And learning all the members of the coven wasn't so bad, either. But the whole storyline of rogue vampires and fated mates just didn't make me excited. I loved that Trent had real issues - - but Alexi felt pretty one note. Definitely was left wanting more of his background.
Trent has been one of my favorite characters in this series and I'm so happy that he got such an awesome HEA in this book. I'm not sure what Hugo was thinking throughout most of this book, but it felt like the vampires were rudderless a lot of the time. I did like that Alexi valued his chosen bond and his own integrity enough to break the rules that Hugo laid down and help deal with rogue vampires in the area.
So, out of this series - this was probably my least favorite. However, it was still a cute story. It just didn't feel totally complete or it was lacking something. I usually love vampires and shifters..this story however, just didn't hold my attention and I didn't connect with the characters.
Overall 3 stars and a cautious recommendation...it could just be me.
As usual this book was a mating filled with lots of action, little time to properly date and woo, and plenty of murders and anxiety thrown into the whole mix.
Trent is a part of the pack but remains human and has not met a mate. After seeing Mace meet his mate he figured he would be happy to find out he had a paranormal mate, but when said mate turns out to be a large and scowly vampire Trent finds himself questioning everything. It turns out vampire mating happens a lot quicker than shifters and Trent has to go through with things and then figure it all out from there.
Alexi has always hoped for a mate but finding his in the middle of an incursion of rogues while his mate is the one doing the investigating has him worried and not handling things all that well. As the issues with the rogues begin to appear to have close ties to his own family Alexi begins to question if he can even keep his mate when he can't seem to protect him. It brings up plenty of issues between the two men and mean they have to have a crash course in mating expectations and plans even as attacks are going on.
Despite the heavier subjects there were some pretty light and fun moments in this book as well and the end result was truly intriguing. An easy and compulsive read.
To my ratings: A 3,5* is clicked with a 4* but in review marked as 3,5*:
5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow-Away-book like ‘Jesse's Smile’ or ‘Joey’ from Angelique Jurd, ‘Save the the kids’ series from EM Leya, ‘Love’s Tethered Heart’ from C.L. Etta or ‘Liberty’ from Seth King), it's like an A+
4* - very good and will be often reread and is a WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises (like most of Andrew Grey books and Davidson Kings 'Haven Hart'-series) it's like an A
3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few times (most romances where you can enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in hospitals). I can recommend them definitively! It's like an B+
3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader (2-3 times a year), it's like a B
2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time-reader (I wouldn't recommend it heartily, but it was ok) It's like a C-, D
1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an absolute NO-GO). It's like failure in the whole line, dismissed, repeat the class
I have enjoyed each book in this series just as I enjoyed so many of Lisa Oliver's other series but I liked this story best. Trent is the detective partner with Mace who we met in the previous book. The detectives have formed their own security company because Mace can't stand being away from his wolf shifter mate. There are some deaths that appear to be the work of vampires and their security company is called to help. Trent goes with the two shifter detectives to call on the local coven and that is where he meets his vampire mate. Trent is human but is well aware of shifters as an honorary member of the Stockton pack, but vampires? The mating takes a beating around rogue vampires, panic attacks Trent suffers from, and the usual mistakes the arrogant Alexi vampire makes. It is a fascinating adventure and a great read.
As with the other books by this author that I have read, this one is good and entertaining. I really could understand the characters and the plot. What do you do when you are gay vampire (Alexi) and your mate(Trent) is a straight male human? Not only that but he he has done hang ups about paranormals? Alexi must tread very carefully with Trent. There is someone killing a person every week. The evidence points to multiple vampires. The local coven leader does not want to help. But Alexi decides to help and discovers that Trent is his mate. Of course Alexi wants to protect Trent but Trent is more independent. But as the danger comes closer to the two men, they must reconcile their feelings toward each other and work together or more people will die.
I liked everything about this book. From word one I was 100% on Alexi and Trent's side. It was a bit rough at first for them but the author did a great job telling this story. Little details, a vision of what was happening were very well written. I could picture it as I read it. The relationship problems seemed spot on for anyone in a new relationship. The love scenes were hot yet not overly done. The connections with the Pack and their worry for Trent was wonderful to see. I enjoyed this story very much and will be buying the Captains story. I need to see how the author wraps this all up.
This book was amazing and I wouldn't have changed anything in it. Lisa Oliver writes beautiful stories and I couldn't imagine anything else being better. I waited for this book for months and I'm glad I had the patience because it was just so beautiful. Enjoy and love it as much as I did!
I liked this one the best so far of the series. The vamps were interesting, and it was nice to see Trent involved with a vamp. I was a bit surprised that Trent never gets to top during the whole book which was a bit unsatisfying, and when he does it is mentioned in afterthought as happening while they are on vacation... Erm. Okay. I have no problem with a character being a bottom, but Trent never defined himself as one, so I was expecting it to happen at some point.

I absolutely love this book that I found it really hard to put the book down. Really can't wait for the next book and find out what Reynolds and Nico story is gonna be!!!!
1.5 stars Audio-book: Audio quality:Good, Narration;Good The introducing of vampires had some potential but the plot was predictable and cliche. And unfortunately there are too many contradictions as far as psychology and behaviorism is concerned.
Each book just keeps getting better in this series. I loved Trent and Alexi; they had issues but we're determined to make their mating work. I just wished Maxed would be backed off a little bit. I'm definitely ready to read the next book
Thoroughly enjoyable read. This time a Human and a Vampire meet up as fated mates. Its a joy ride catching all the characters together with some twists in the storyline. There is one more story in this Series, so, looking forward to reading it.
