“Start with a huge helping of sci-fi with amazing world building, add well developed characters, a plot that continues to move forward . . . and it's a recipe that can't go wrong.”

“I have never read a story with this kind of twist.”

After spending the last century off-planet in the Kuiper Belt, exo-miner Quatrain Dyer awakens from stasis to an agonizing toothache and an unnerving sense of displacement.

Why is he in his hive’s old recspace? Why is all his gear still here? And why hasn’t the reintegration team from CAGE Dynamics met him?

The answers Quatrain discovers will turn his reality inside out . . .

Displacement is tailor-made for on-the-go readers who need a quick sci-fi fix! The short story also includes bonus chapters from Survival Aptitude Sound and Survival Aptitude Hope’s Graveyard, two books in Mike Sheriff’s new post-apocalyptic sci-fi series, The Extinction Odyssey.

Mike Sheriff writes accessible science fiction for readers with curious minds and a taste for tension. Besides The Extinction Odyssey series, he also publishes short and snappy sci-fi stories under the LIGHTBURST imprint.

When he’s not writing, you’ll find him mangling Rory Gallagher riffs on his Fender Strat or fending off high cholesterol through (yawn) diet and exercise. He lives in London, Ontario.

Lightburst: Displacement is my first sampling of Sheriff's work, and it is a recipe for a successful sci-fi story.

Start with a huge helping of sci-fi with amazing world building, add well developed characters, a plot that continues to move forward, and then add a dash of beautiful poetry and a sprinkle of humor, and it's a recipe that can't go wrong. Another thought on the poetry. One would expect it to be out of place in this genre--like throwing anchovies into a recipe for chocolate brownies--but it really works in this case. The poetry beautifully complements the futuristic sci-fi world.

I will most definitely be checking out more by this author, and I highly recommend this story for true sci-fi fans.

Great way to wake someone up who skipped through time.

I love the way this story reads. It is an interesting story about waking someone who got lost in space. I have never read a story with this kind of twist.

Beautiful!

It is not often one can describe a sci-first story (especially an outer space story) as beautiful. Lyrical prose with a touch of humor and an infusion of well-written poetry. I actually didn't mind being left hanging at the end.

IMAGINATIVE

Not really given a choice as to his future, wait in the immulsion tank or take what they offer. One question, was his pay stopped ninety years and drawing interest? Thank you, Danny Scott.

Like a burst of light...over in a flash. Engaging, but too short.

Short stories that make you mad there’s not more; almost as if you’ve been duped into thinking it will be a novella. Good idea in this one. No so in the next two.
