“How long, O Lord?” “When will you answer my prayer?” “Why must I wait so long for your promise to be fulfilled?”
The Christian journey is not endless bliss with perfect relationships and an abundant financial portfolio. Perfection can only be found in Christ. Even though lovers of God experience fullness of life, they still face unexpected trials, unpredictable difficulties, and seemingly unsolvable problems.
Every child of God will have a wilderness experience, but not everyone has to have a wilderness wandering.
In The Wilderness, Brian and Candice share some of their difficult seasons as tribal missionaries in Central and South America where they encountered demonic powers, lost their possessions in a flooding river, and experienced their daughter being bitten by a venomous snake. Combined with the wilderness encounters the Israelites faced, these stories will help you understand your own challenges of faith, delayed answers to prayer, and miraculous interventions that display God’s glory.
God wants to bring you from the wilderness to a miracle. You will make it through to the other side and discover God’s heart of love for you!
A fresh take on the wilderness seasons which we pass through in life, by Brian Simmons and his wife Candice. Brian has been publishing his own translation of the Bible, 'The Passion Translation' over recent years and brings his vast biblical knowledge and experience of missionary hardship and adventure in South America to this work. I found it a challenging and comforting book, reminding me that sometimes the very best opportunities to grow come when we are travelling through the most difficult circumstances.
The God whispers at the end of each chapter fit right in where I am (was) in my life that you know it was made for me. While there was some repetitive moments in the chapter, It drove each point home especially the description of each wilderness. Looking at where you might be on your journey with God, ita a blueprint that is being drawn as you go. My hope has risen for this time and I know that there is a purpose for it.
I was on my lowest point of support raising when I started reading this book... they inspired me how they strive to continue with their mission despite of the obstacles they experienced along the way. I saw how God works in the wilderness. I also loved how each places that the Israelite have gone has been named and described. So accurate and timely for me!
PS. There are some verses cited that is interpreted below the line (in my own opinion), hehe.
This book should be required reading for every Christian. It reminded me of many promises and truths that God gives to us. Promises and truths that are found in His Word, we can depend upon and know He is always faithful. Yes, even in the wilderness.
Revelation that will change and renew your mind! This is a must read book! There has been numerous aha moments, pearls of revelation, it is written with passion and from experience, and was birthed in Love! I want to thank Brian and Candace for sharing this with us!
I was given this book as a gift and I have used it as a daily reading tool. The authors’ story unfolds as they unpack the Wilderness stories in the Bible. It’s uplifting, encouraging and enlightening. God never leaves us or forsakes is.
Don't let the title of this book cause you to miss out on one of the most exciting books I have read. Brian and Candance do an excellent job helping you to see that wilderness experiences are actually a good thing because life changes in the wilderness. Exciting book.
I cannot recommend this book enough. If you think life has been a wilderness experience, reading this will help you to gain better understanding of the value and beauty of the wilderness. I gained so much insight!
I started this last year and picked it up when prompted. This book is rich with the ways of the Lord and going deep in Him when in the wilderness times of life.
Written by 2 missionaries. It chronicles their time in Africa (their wilderness) and then advise to help the reader through a wilderness. Filled with God's promise of hope.
