The scenic small town of Belshire, Maine has become a different sort of culinary destination. The town’s informal Food Truck Court, in the city's beloved Founder’s Park, is rapidly transforming into a lunch hour gathering place that everyone is talking about, and the most popular truck, by far, is the Extra Fancy Food Truck. Owner Meredith Malam's flare for a gourmet lunch that can fit in a bowl or a bag is garnering attention and more customers than she and her spunky gal pal, Amy, can handle. Just when everything seems to have come together for the food truck duo, the town is rocked by a murder in the park, of one of Belshire’s most prominent citizens. The shocking discovery causes Meredith’s optimism and determination to plummet, and threatens to tear the food truck community apart. Help in solving the circumstances of the mysterious death comes from a surprising, and heartwarming source, as Meredith wrestles with her fears and doubts, in this fast-paced culinary delight.
This is Book 2 in the Hungry Hubcap Cozy Culinary Mysteries and is as good as Book 1. I am finding I enjoy reading about food trucks. Meredith and Amy's food truck, the Extra Fancy Food Truck, is the place everyone is talking about. They work hard, but make good money. Meredith comes to work one morning and hears a dog barking. When she goes to check things out, she manages to find another body. We all know Meredith will just have to investigate. I love that the author introduces another new partner-in-crime for Mer. I think everyone will fall in love with him!
Meredith and her friend Amy operate the Extra Fancy Food Truck in Belshire, Maine. Founders Park is where they and the other local food trucks gather to bring lunch to the working public. Arriving early one day, Meredith discovers the body of a local woman, a wealthy benefactor of the city. When the brother of another food truck operator confesses to the crime, something seems off to Meredith. Working to find all the answers and the truth behind the murder leads us thru a twisted murder plot that will keep you turning the pages to the surprising end! A well done murder and great food, what more do you want to relax with?
I am a bit disappointed. After reading the first book in this series I couldn't wait for the second one to come out but it seems as if the author rushed to get the book out there instead of working on some improvements before releasing it. There were quite a few annoying repetitions and after the book started with a big bang not much more happened until almost half way through the book. The last third then finally held my attention and was a lot more of what I was hoping for.
I loved this food truck mystery just as much as the first book and now can't wait for the 3rd! Mer and Amy are really nice and I am so glad to see things have only gotten better for them, both with the food truck and dating. The food just sounds mouth watering though and I keep finding myself hungry, lol, both for food and more of the story. It's got a great pace and enough going on as well as the length of the book is nice. The food truck is a perfect setting making it possible for many possibilities for future stories. I also really like the writer's style, she is descriptive and talented at making the dialog flow smoothly. This is a fantastic new series and I hope plenty of more stories will be planned. I can't wait for the next book.
When I read the first book in this series I was hoping that the next book would beg as good. It was even better! First the entire premise of a cozy mystery being about the food industry is not exactly new. But put it in a food truck, run by a trained chef and you have new and exciting. Then it's usually the main proprietor of the food establishment that ends up in a relationship with the homicide detective, but in this series the chef is in a new relationship with another chef and her best friend has the relationship with the detective. Even trying to figure out who the killer is doesn't come easily and that's a good thing.
I received an advance reader copy of this book and voluntarily reviewed it.
Meredith stumbles over a dead body in the park and her daily life gets wonky. First she voluntarily inherits the victims dog. Luckily her dad falls in love with Snowflake and the dog has a place to stay for as long as necessary. When one of the other food truck operators confesses to a crime, Meredith agrees to help figure out why he did such a thing. Meredith and Amy find themselves in danger when they are close to learning the truth. This volume is littered with red herrings which makes it interesting. The characters continue to develop nicely. I can't wait for the next book.
I enjoyed this book, but the mystery felt a little off to me. Minor parts were super obvious, but important parts weren't clear enough, making the end/reveal a bit confusing. I think it was supposed to be a dramatic reveal, but it didn't work for me, and trying to work out how it fit left me with more questions than I started with. But the food descriptions were absolutely mouthwatering, and the dog's antics sounded very familiar.
This is the 2nd book in a new series. It's a very fast read with interesting characters. Meredith owns the food truck and stumbles on a body. Another food truck owner confesses....can she figure out if he is the murderer? I loved the addition of a dog in this series.
This book hit home for me because my parents acted the same way when I had my daughter out of wedlock. People do crazy things for money. This was a great book. Loved it
This series is just getting better. Again the characters were well written and the was a surprise. Liked the book very much and keep on writing Ms. Shaw.
