Párizs szívében él Zephyr szép és zárkózott feleségével, Manonnal. A szemben lévő házban Toqué, az író látogatja Rose nevű kedvesét és közös kisbabájukat. Eric, a betegápoló attól boldog, ha mindenkin segíthet. És Sabatine, az ellenállhatatlan fotóművész belebolondul egy titokzatos férfiba.

Iselin C. Hermann kalandos úton jutott el az irodalomig. Eredetileg akrobatának tanult Franciaországban, saját bevallása szerint a mai napig tud kötélen táncolni. Ezután egy koppenhágai színház társulatában rendezett és játszott, majd bölcsészettudományi tanulmányai és könyvkiadói szerkesztői munkája után az Expressz ajánlott! című levélregény hozta meg számára a világsikert. Azóta két gyerekkönyve és több regénye is megjelent.

Prioritaire has appeared in English under two different titles: Priority and Special Delivery. The English translator was G. Forester.
Since publishing her debut novel, she has written addition novels for adults, as well as books for children.
She received multiple grants from Statens Kunstfond between 2004 and 2007.

This was one of those novels where I really struggled with giving it a rating... and even deciding if I enjoyed it or not. The issue is, it covers such important topics and themes of adulthood and how some people handle their romantic (?) relationships and sexual lives in long committed relationships, after a certain age. We see people suffer from a sexless relationship, we see people putting up facades and lie about their profession or how they spend their free time to be able to have side affairs or to appear better in front of vertain people... we also see people commit adultery and and get into situations where they have to suffer the consequences of their actions and so on. That part was done pretty well. Also, I liked a smaller part in the ending, where some character who a lot of people would consider "cheap" because she is not super educated or intellectual, but has a nice heart, seems to find love and hope.
However, the structure and the writing... I had some issues with.
First of all, the narrative changed from first person to third person, to first person all throughout the novel - within chapters, from sentence to sentence. A lot of times inner monologues and dialogues were not signalled properly (I have a feeling it was not a translation / typography issue).
Then... the main, big twist of the story... it was really gimmicky, it went on for too long, and the story would have been just fine without it. I felt there was some psychological aspect to it, but in that case, that should have been explored more ().
And we had a final, smaller twist in the story that I found uncalled for, or underdeveloped. It would have only made sense if we read the full novel from the P.O.V. of the male lead, which was not the case.

Once you get over some really serious confusion, this book actually starts to be quite interesting and enjoyable.

Ez a könyv a megcsalásokról és a hazugságokról szól, de arról nagyon hitelesen és őszintén.
Eltartott egy jó ideig, mire rájöttem, hogy kicsoda tulajdonképpen Zet, és onnantól kezdve még inkább unszimpatikus lett. Oly annyira, hogy az utolsó lapokon már azért szurkoltam, hogy jól kapja meg, amit megérdemel, és maradjon csak hoppon.
Nem tudnám megmondani, melyik szereplővel tudtam azonosulni. Talán egyikkel sem. Szimpatikus volt az öreglány, meg Manon figurája is megkapott, de ennyi.
A történet amúgy pörgős, olvastatja magát (miután megszoktam, hogy nincs külön jelölve a párbeszéd, és rájöttem, melyik sort mondja ez, melyiket az, és melyik narráció).
Borítékolni lehetett a befejezést, ami viszont a számomra is meglepő volt, hogy Zet, miután két nő kidobta, maga szakít a "nagy szerelmével". De, úgy kell neki. Annak örülök, hogy Rose (valószínűleg) talált magának (és persze Lulunak) egy kedves fickót. Sabatine gyermekeit sajnáltam.
Egy kérdés azonban femerült bennem a könyv végén: vajon valóban annyira romlott ember volt Zet, hogy a végén utcára kerüljön (már ha oda került)? Tényleg ezt érdemelte a sok hazugság és félrevezetés miatt?

Domino er en roman om bedrag, identitet, forelskelse og kærlighed.
Det er svært at referere handlingen i bogen uden at afsløre for meget. Kort fortalt befinder vi os i Paris, og følger en gruppe menneskers ægteskabelige og - især - udenomsægteskabelige forviklinger.
Hun skriver godt, Iselin C. Hermann. Måden hvorpå hun beskriver og (af)slører romanpersonernes identitet(er) er interessant, og hendes sprog og den meget stemningsfulde franske 'setting' er nok til at gøre læsningen af Domino til en fornøjelse.

Charming/sjovt at laese - I probably liked it better reading it in Danish than I would have if I had read it in English. Occasional major inaccuracies about Parisian life (details that every Danish reader would recognize but that have no place at all in life in France) - but I was so happy to get to read a book in Danish, that I will forgive it almost everything.

En forelskelsesroman fra Frankrig, med et overraskende fedt twist. Nogle gange må man være villig til at sluge et par kamæleoner!
Iselin Hermann er desværre en lidt overset dansk forfatter.
