Having received many requests for copies of my recitations, it has seemed to me they would be best answered by gathering and publishing them under one cover. Many of these pieces are old and familiar, while others may be less widely known; but among the number I think will be found some to suit the most varied audiences and tastes. As the result of my own experience, I may add that the pieces telling a story are more effective than abstract and purely sentimental ones.
Mary Cora Urquhart or Cora Brown–Potter (1857 – 1936) was an American actress who found success in London. Formerly a member of The Four Hundred in New York, she was one of the first American society women to become a stage actress.
A collection of (I’m guessing) the favorite poems of actress Cora Urquhart Potter. Being some thing that came out ok 1895, there is an old fashioned feel to every poem but they are quite varied in their style and stories. Most of them I found enjoyable enough. Others I was so bored by, and a select few I loved - one even made me cry! I read this because the book belonged to my great grandmother; probably wouldn’t recommend it unless you ARE interested in much older, less well known poetry.
