Kick Push #1-2

Kick, Push, Coast

Rate this book
Box set includes exclusive never before seen bonus short story told from Tommy Warden’s ten-year-old mind.

★SYNOPSIS for Kick, Push
There’s a single defining moment within every skater.
It lasts only a second. Two if you're good.
Three if you’re really good.
It’s the moment you’re in the air, your board somewhere
beneath you and nothing but wind surrounds you.
It’s the feeling of being airborne.

The sixteen-year-old version of me would’ve said it was the
greatest feeling in the world.
Then at seventeen, I had my son.
And every single second became a defining moment. Even the ones that consisted of heartbreak when his mother left us.

Seventeen. Single. Dad.
That’s what my life became.
Yet, every day, I managed to find that feeling of being
airborne.
Or at least I convinced myself I did.
But I lied—to myself and to everyone around me.
Until she showed up; Tanned skin, raven dark hair, and eyes the color of emeralds.

You know what sucks about being in the air?
Coming down from the high.
Sometimes you land on the board and nail the trick.
Then kick, push, and coast away.
Other times you fall.
You fall hard.
And those are the times when it’s not as easy to get back up, dust off your pads and try again.
Especially when the girl with the emerald eyes becomes your drug...
And you become her poison.

★SYNOPSIS for Coast
One life-changing summer.
One boy.
The boy.
The boy who offered me safe touches and heart-stopping smiles - smiles he shared with his son.
We filled our days with porch-step kisses,
filled our ears with laughter,
filled our hearts with love.
Deep, soul-aching, desperate love.

But love is misleading.
It’s an invisible, fleeting moment.
Somewhere between false adoration and pure hatred comes an emotion, a vulnerable need, a single desire.
It lives within the ones who miss it, who crave it,
who know better than to expect it.
Love is relentless.
Even when that love turns to hate, turns to loathing,
turns to pain.

Love should heal you.
But it can also break you.
Believe me, I know…
Because I'm Becca Owens - a broken girl…
…And he's Josh Warden - the boy who broke me.

This is a gorgeous little epilogue to the Kick, Push and Coast duet – told from the POV of a 10 year old Tommy Warden.

Tommy is the scene-stealing son of hero, Josh, and I absolutely loved that was the one who got to show us where this little family is at since we last saw them, living out their HEA and happy in their life together.

I don’t want Becs to be sad or to feel like she can’t come to me when things get hard… When Dad’s gone, I’m the man, and she should know that.
Besides, I loved her before Dad did.
I would’ve married her if Dad didn’t.

So sweet! I loved it!

4 stars.

This is just a review of Tommy's short story

4.5 Stars

This short story was adorable! Tommy was one of my favorite parts of reading Kick Push and Coast. His youth and innocence were so endearing. While he was a bit older in this one, he was still the Tommy I had grown to love while reading the first two books.

I was so excited he got a chance to have a bit of his own story. We also got to see Becca and Josh who I was glad to see were still very real, everything wasn't perfect for them. Definitely check this one out if you enjoyed Kick Push and Coast. It was a great quick story :)

I love this series so very much! Josh Warden is the newest member of my Book Boyfriend Hall of Fame. He is All.The.Things. He is EVERYTHING .

This duet pulled out every single emotion- I laughed, I cried, I got angry. I cried some more. And then even more. I swooned. I sighed. I died. And that was just the first book!

Kick, Push completely, utterly overwhelmed me. From the prologue I was totally invested in these characters and as the story progressed I only fell more in love with this story, with these characters. God, what to say about Josh…he owned me, every part of me. My heart broke for him, over and over. The love he had for his son was simply wonderful, there’s nothing he wouldn’t do for him, nothing he wouldn't give up for him. I’m at a loss for words when it comes to how much everything Josh had to deal with affected me.

Coast was an absolute joy to read. It was all that I wanted it to be, and then some. The angst, the heartache, and the love- so.much.love. Full of hope and healing, Coast is a journey of growth, redemption, and acceptance. I wish I could climb into this book and live out the rest of my life with Josh, Tommy, and Becca. I loved it so much.

And then there's Tommy's story. I read this late last night after getting home from a signing where I had the pleasure of meeting Jay McLean! I think I cried the entire time I was reading his little bonus story. He is such a sweetheart, so much like his daddy!

I'm so sad I'm finished these books. Josh, Becca, and Tommy will forever own a special place in my heart.

In the space of a few short pages I laughed, I cried and my heart absolutely melted! Having a small glimpse in Tommy's head was brilliant and completely adorable! I'd love for him to have a book of his own when he's all grown up but I think the whole Kick Push series was perfection as is <3

I don't even know where to start with this one. I guess I can start by saying I loved it. Josh, Becca and Tommy consumed me. When I was ready the first half I found myself getting upset with Josh's actions but since I was doing a buddy read, I had to put the book down and walk away, let others catch up to me. In doing so it gave me a chance to reflect and I realized that he was acting that way because he never had a chance to grow emotionally. By becoming a father at 17 and being abandoned by everyone who should care in his life he had no choice but to just do each and every day for Tommy. So when love is thrown in his face he doesn't know how to handle it. And when he was forced to step back and learn man oh man did he learn and I fell even harder for him. The love and patience of a saint. I want one of my own. Becca man did she have it rough. My heart broke for her (well both of them). Both of them were let down by people that were supposed to love them unconditionally but what she endured . . . man that hurt to read. Not sure how any one could come back from that. But she did. She found her way, her strength. I have only read two books by this author but she has such a way of building you up, breaking your heart and putting it all back together so beautifully. I have found that she is an author that you savor and wait for when you are ready for a really really good cry. You can also tell that this author has kids because she was able to voice/portray Tommy perfectly. He was such a riot and such a light in Josh and Becca's story. Just perfection. I loved Josh and Becca's journey. I loved that it wasn't easy, that it was heart breaking at times because it made it real. I could feel all of their feelings . . . it was pouring off the pages. An amazing book that I won't forget anytime soon.

So, it's been a month since I've read these books, and I'm still not able to put into words how much love I have for these characters. So I'm going to post my feelings in gifs.

When you see how craptacular those that are supposed to love someone behave.

via GIPHY

When you realize the kindness of absolute strangers. <3

via GIPHY

Literally seeing the sparks fly off the pages.

via GIPHY

Seeing all those amazing father/son moments. Single parenthood is hard, but Josh makes the most of it.

via GIPHY

Seeing people fall in love with each other completely.

via GIPHY

Then the heartbreak because of everything else in the world working against you.

via GIPHY

Then the persistence in trying to win someone back.

via GIPHY

When you have to fix yourself to be happy with anyone else.

via GIPHY

And absolutely happiness when things are exactly how they are supposed to be.

Overall these books made me swoon, then completely broke me, and pieced me back together again. It's emotional, and will have you sucked into the story.

All my favorite Warden's in one place :)

Josh Warden stole my heart a really long time ago when I first read Kick, Push. His story alone was enough to melt my icy heart, and make it thump thump. His love story with Becca... now that gave me every feel under the sun. I cried, I laughed, I fell in love with the characters in this story. Reading about Becca and Josh working through some pretty heavy issues in Coast was what sealed the deal. These two are goals and will own me forever. They are fire trucking everything. They are both very flawed characters, but the way Jay writes them makes them so lovable.

Ugh... now Tommy, Josh's son, got his little part added to the end. I'm living for the Warden boys. Tommy is like a mini Josh just ten times sweeter. Ugh his little moments were so sweet. I have two little boys (not quite Tommy's age yet) and I was interested to see how Jay wrote Tommy a little bit older than he was in the original books. How Jay writes a 10-year old boy POV, beats me... but it feels pretty darn authentic. Is it greedy of me to already want more??? Oh well because I do! I'm still not ready to let this gang go!

Amazing writing as always. A heartfelt and emotional story. Ugh I love this story and I'm so glad it's in one nice little box set now :)

I absolutely adored the bonus chapter in Tommy's pov - so good! The story was very angst-filled, almost too much so at times, and I found myself taking frequent breaks. Josh was such a great guy. I loved his relationship with Tommy. Although I felt for Becca, there were times she annoyed me. Josh was pretty much a saint. Overall, I really enjoyed the book.

I was so pleasantly surprised when Tommy's short story was announced. I loved his POV! I would genuinely enjoy reading a full length novel of just the life in the Warden clan. I definitely hope for more in the future. :)

This is a story about heart break and love . Growing up too early (being a young parent ) and sacrifices made for your children . There’s abandonments, grief, love and hope , kindness in its purest form ... and exploration of the notion of family .

Josh finds himself a single father at just 17 years old , abandoned by his family and his sons mothers family as well he’s well and truly alone until the kindness of a stranger gives him Hope .

He’s a devoted father that has sacrificed his dreams of skating to provide everything for his son .
He’s humble and dedicated , the sweetest single dad.

One day Becca appears at her grandmothers house and they slowly fall for each other . She’s great with tommy (Josh’s son ) Becca has many secrets from her past though , and piece by piece their relationship crumbles from the pressures.

Becs is shattered and broken but she takes every possible step to rebuild herself and find healing . And if that means facing her fears and continuing to kick the push her way through college and finding hope and healing that’s exactly what she does . I love this about her .

This story was .... is . Emotional . Heartbreaking . Beautiful . All at the same time . This story took me on a wild ride and I really loved it !!

I really loved the bonus tommy scene too !!! I want more from him ;)

Kick Push and Coast are two of my favorite books EVER! The fact that they are both together here with Tommy's own story is beyond amazing. Josh, Becca and Tommy are real, lovable characters that you can't help but want to know everything about. Jay has an extreme talent of bringing you into the story and making you feel everything the characters are going through. Believe me when I tell you, this is a story you want to feel. I laughed and I cried. Most of all though, I loved. I loved everything Jay put into Josh and Beccas story. I read a lot, like a whole lot, and my first recommendation when anyone asks are these two books. I've taken parts of this story with me in my every day life. Firetruck is literally one of my favorite words and everyone I know knows what it means. With all the being said, READ THIS BUNDLE! If you have never read Jay before start here. If you have read her and you just haven't read this story yet, what are you waiting for??

Amazing

Omg I don't think I've cried so much over a book in such a long time. Happy tears, sad tears, broken tears. This series is a roller-coaster of emotions, from the highest highs to the lowest lows. Becca's story is a hard one, and one that really hits home with me. Jay wrote her pain with such depth and skill. Josh... What can I say about him other than does he exist in real life. Because I need a J-Ward in my life! And Tommy, ah that boy is so sweet and funny and his bonus story at the end had my face hurting from smiling so much. You won't regret reading this series. It is truly amazing.

This book really put my heart through the wringer. I cried one minute then laughed the next. I loved it! It took me places I never thought of. Brought out some deep real-life feelings. I couldn't put it down. Began reading it in the evening and didn't go to sleep until 5am, because I had to pause. Pause, and soak in all the thoughts and feelings that were hitting me all at once. Amazing. Jay McLean you are officially my 2nd favorite author (Colleen Hoover is my first). All your other books are just as wonderful but this one, this one will be special and unforgettable to me! Love you!

Speechless

I just can't find the words to really explain all the feels this duet gave me. I hurt for Josh and Becca. I felt the good times and the bad moments. But the best was when they finally found their coast. I hope to read more about Tommy as a teenager, I feel like there's a story brewing there. And I wouldn't mind reading about Nick and his crazy grandma that seems hilarious to me. I recommend this duet to everyone and don't be afraid of the feels, it's the good kind of feels.

I cried so much.

This couple is amazingly strong apart, but so much better together. The crappy hands felt to each of them, were horrible and horrifying. I can't even imagine those horrors. But Jay makes you feel it with them. It is an amazing story written by a truly gifted writer.
