Toryn Paine just found the man of his dreams in Mickey Thornton. He’s gentle and sweet, seductive and mysterious. Also just as mentally wrecked as he is. Besides the fact that he wears that body of his like a freaking Baltic God, he’s Toryn’s idea of perfection poured into skin and painted in ink. However just as things start getting good with Mickey, an unwanted blast from the past shows up and everything Toryn has ever wanted seems to be just out of reach. He goes on the run to Kaiden and Holt’s lakefront cabin in the hopes of once again hiding from the man who nearly ruined him. But what fun is a secluded lake without someone to share it with? And will he ever be able to leave his past behind and start fresh with the most delicious man he’s ever seen?

I just get more attached to these boys with every book. I love how the author has the guys from The Passion series intertwined with the Invicta boys. Mickey is trying to get out of a bad relationship. Toryn is still running from one. Between the fighting, dancing, and seriously hot sex, these two will find a way to not only save themselves but each other as well. I can't wait until we get the next one. I am eager to know what happens with Stone and Brice.
Mickey and Toryns adventure continues and they grow closer to each other. The gang of Invicta have their quirks and past to over some but they are there for each other.

Oh geez. There are so many things wrong with this book.
Let’s go over the plot first. This book picks up right where the last one ended, with Toryn riding away on a motorcycle to protect the Invicta guys from his evil ex. His plan is to get far away from them, so the bad guy doesn’t hurt any of them, including Mickey, his new boyfriend. He gets to a cabin, and almost immediately calls to have Mickey join him. Why he didn’t just take Mickey with him I do not know… The two then have a nice holiday at the lake cabin, fishing, swimming, visiting a local berry farm, and ignoring the poor dog they have with them. The perspective goes back and forth between Toryn, Mickey, Holt, Kade, and Marcus the bad guy. We spend waaaaaay too much time with the bad guy, pointlessly going on about how he’s going to get Toryn back. Then there is a big thing, and it’s over. But it’s not, because there is another big thing. If I didn’t love my tablet, I would have tossed it out the window in shock. What the fuck.
So this book continues with the poor editing and typos.
“At some point, Toryn got a conscious about it all though and that’s when things became difficult.”
“When they’re done, the sink back under.”
That’s just a couple of examples. Plus the writing was so choppy, sentences didn’t make sense, perspectives changed, I couldn’t figure out who was speaking or moving at times. There were timeline issues, things didn’t line up, ages of people were off. Again way too much time was spent describing dance moves. There was lots of porn star sex. And that poor dog! I spent lots of time worrying about the dog.
Then we have the issue of Toryn and his ever changing parents. See my review above for three contradictory quotes from the last book…
Here are quotes from this book:
Toryn: “It’s a long story, but my dad was a real dickhead. She let him run me out of the house when he found out I was…umm, gay. I hate that bastard for that shit, and it caused a lot of issues between me and her. He’s dead and gone now, but the scars still hang on for some reason or another.” (So now he’s not his stepdad, just his dad. Not to mention the quote about him being adopted from the last book, and that at first his parents “rock”.)
“Braxton: The man you thought was your dad, the one who was horrible to you, well he was not your biological dad we found out.”
Toryn: “What? What do you mean he wasn’t my biological dad? Yes, he was. He was there every single day to make sure I felt inadequate as a kid. To reassure me of what a fucking failure I was. When he wasn’t beating it into my head, or body, he was whispering it to me. Why do you think I left that shithole? It’s bad enough I watched him kick my mom’s ass too, reminding her of it as well, so I figured if I left, then their issues would get better, at least for her. I’m not sorry he is dead, I just fucking am not.” (But we’ve known he wasn’t his biological dad since the last book when he told Mickey his biological dad left before he was born and he’s been raised by a stepdad. He mentioned his STEPDAD several times! And he say’s here that he left, but earlier he says he was kicked out.)
You can see my confusion! The whole resolution of the dad issue just did not work for me at all. Nuff said.
So I had issues with the whole book pretty much. I’m also very confused by the five star ratings on Goodreads, maybe I am just way too picky.
I've been loving this series and Toryn and Mickey are perfect together....Mickey is a handful but he's so adorable....He's perfect for Toryn...It starts right where the previous book left off but Mickey soon joins Toryn and some hot fun ensues.....I love Micey I think he's right up there with Gabe and Dax for me......We get Kaiden and Holt but Holt's hospital scare was horrible...and there's a twist in there you won't see coming...I didn't...A great edition to the series and can't wait for the next one x
Invicta Retribution is book # 3 in Piper Kay's Invicta Series, it is important to read these books in the order written.
Wow!!!! Welcome Back Piper!! You did a phenomenal job on this story , brilliant writing again as usual.
Retribution is a continuation of Mickey and Toryn's story and hopefully we will be seeing more from these two in the future. Piper tied up their story remarkably, we get too see how two broken souls can become whole.
This story focuses mostly on Toryn and what his life was about and the demons of his past. We met him in book # 2 Sanctuary where he came to Mickey's rescue, but we were left wondering then how they would work out, well.... Let me tell you this story explains so much and brings us through so many emotions I was in tears yet I also was laughing at the banter between Toryn and Mickey omg they are a perfect match, and let's not forget the steamy sex scenes.
Piper brings new meaning to kissing!!!! She definitely can write the perfect panty melting kiss scenes.
I absolutely loved that Kaiden and Holt played such a great part in this story the bond these two have with all the guys from Invicta is absolutely beautiful it goes to show family is not always by blood relation. Kaiden and Holt are older now but omg still sexy as always and funny with their quick wit I love these two.
Please don't miss out on this remarkable story go grab your copy today you are going to be so surprised at the big plot twist that happens I was left speechless and yes that too was written perfectly.
Thanks so much Piper for yet another amazing story I can't wait for book 4 to be out what a surprise we will get in there too.
This is the third book in the Invicta series. Retribution picks up immediately where Sanctuary, book 2, left off and continues with the story of Toryn and Mickey. You may find yourself needing a refresher though as 2 years have passed between these books being published. I had really enjoyed the first two books but I am declining to rate this book as I didn’t finish reading it.
I mentioned in my review of book 1 in the series that there were some editing issues and sadly they are even more prevalent in this latest release. Normally I can overlook the odd wrong or missing word but when it happens too frequently and keeps pulling me from the story it becomes an issue. For me the writing just didn’t flow and with the errors added on I found myself struggling to make progress. I made the decision at around the 40% mark to stop reading – maybe at a later date I will return to Toryn and Mickey’s story but for the moment Retribution is not a story I feel I can finish.
Toryn and Mickey's relationship was fire from the word go. Just when Mickey's secrets were revealed and life had finally smiled upon him, boom,Toryn the man of his dreams is yanked away so swiftly. Mickey starts to doubt what he thinks they shared was real. This book picks up where the last one left off and Piper Kay doesn't give you a chance to catch your breath, she barrels on like gangbusters and uses every word in her arsenal to entrance you. I read this book in a day, that's how full on committed to this story I was. I had never read M/M erotica before Piper Kay handed me her first book to read. I was in store for some great writing and some great storylines with characters of substance. You don't see these characters as M/M you see them as people who live and love the same as your standard hetero couples. This book is fantastic and I highly recommend it.
Toryn and Mickey's story is HAWT and full of angst too... I jumped feet first into reading this without rereading the first two in the series. Once i did start i knew i'd made the right choice as as soon as i started i remembered, more or less, what had happened previously. I loved everything about this, how Mickey and Toryn still fought, old faces were still pretty visible within the story and also some unexpected faces too. There was one twist that i really didn't see coming but think it worked perfectly. The only issue i did have was, where it should have been "to" the author used "too" instead.
I was so happy when this book was released,it was a long time coming & well worth it! Of course I loved all characters from the series & so happy they all are together again is this book. This book mostly centres on Toyrn & Mickey, also Kade & Holt(love them),well there was a surprise in there you didn't see coming,I was shocked...Then the ending, shocked again...Dang cliffhanger :( I need next book ASAP Please ;) I need to kick Stone's a**. haha
