FROM BESTSELLING GAY ROMANCE AUTHOR MORTICIA KNIGHT

Book five in the Kiss of Leather series

Chuck isn’t sure what he needs and Master Jordan can’t wait to show him.

Stone’s shy junior investigator, Chuck, can no longer deny his interest in the BDSM lifestyle. The beautiful connections and raw emotions he’s witnessed between so many of the Doms and subs at Kiss of Leather leave him yearning for something he’d never dared hope he could have—unconditional love and care from a man. He isn’t sure if he can take the chance of having a real relationship when he’s not out to his meddling parents yet, but the sexy Master Jordan, Gavin’s friend and the owner of Club Consequence, makes him want to take that chance.

Master Jordan has been biding his time until he can get next to the super-fine Chuck. Gavin warned him that Chuck isn’t in the lifestyle, but there’s something special about him that speaks to Jordan’s heart. When they’re finally alone, the chemistry is off the charts and Jordan can tell it won’t take much to bring Chuck willingly into the world of BDSM.

An unexpected development in the case of Corey’s kidnappers shocks them all, but not as much as what happens with Chuck’s family. Jordan teaches Chuck that secrets hold power over the person keeping them, and that gaining trust can only be achieved through complete honesty.

Another installment in this BDSM series - enjoyed this one but I wanted to find out more about the murders, for me it felt a little unfinished at the end. I enjoyed the developing partnership between Jordan & Chuck but it only just started ... guess I wanted a bit more

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

This is the fifth book in the series. I would recommend that you read them in order, as there is a thread running through them all, there are ongoing relationships and ties ins which just mean more that way.

Now that Kiss of Leather is open, we get to see how well Kyle's furniture is view, how much the Doms are enjoying their subs and a new safe place to play. Jordan, who owns Club Consequence, thinks that it is time for him to see whether the feelings he has for Chuck are reciprocated. Watching them play out the game they both seem to want so much, is very enjoyable. Chuck is a fascinating person, as he mixes confidence in his role, and diffidence in his personal life and family relationships. Jordan is just the perfect type of Dom for him, relaxed, loving and patient.

Very enjoyable addition to the series. Thank you Ms Knight.

I feel as if I've been waiting for Chuck and Master Jordan's story ever since Chuck first made an appearance in Stone and Marshall's novel. It was so patently obvious that Chuck was really interested in the lifestyle he was getting glimpses of through his investigative work with Stone regarding the human slavery ring that Tony, Corey's ex-Dom, was running. The first meeting between Chuck and Jordan, in a purely professional setting, had sparks flying off of my e-reader. Now, in 'Gaining Trust', I'm going to finally see these two men together and, hopefully, get to the bottom of the missing other man in the ring, Mike, and the high-powered attorney pulling the strings. It is my opinion that these books should be read in order as each one builds upon the last and all of the characters appear throughout.

"Chuck wanted the seductive words and romantic gestures. But what he wanted more was the deeply emotional and honest connections he’d witnessed between the other Doms and subs from Kiss of Leather."

Much like when I met Kyle many books ago, I fell completely for Chuck and totally understood Jordan's attraction. Chuck is shy, sweet, genuinely cares about people, a hard worker, and he has absolutely no idea how adorable and wonderful he is. Jordan is mesmerized by him and he can't wait to find out more about the young man, especially after a few comments Chuck makes regarding his parents and his upbringing. Jordan is sexy and ambitious, but knows the joy and value of having been raised in a loving home with parents who instilled the important values in him and his siblings. His approach to being a Dom might be different than others, but it's exactly what Chuck needs.

"One of the biggest fears he had in getting to know Jordan—and learning about different aspects of BDSM—was that it wasn’t something he was genuinely interested in doing. That it was only his drive to solve the mystery of what it was all about that truly intrigued him. His mind wouldn’t shut up when it came to puzzles."

I was completely enthralled with the way Chuck and Jordan's romance was entwined beautifully with BDSM learning and training, plus the way Chuck absorbed everything about the way Jordan treated him. It was sad to realize that no one had ever treated Chuck as if he mattered or was important, not even his family. Jordan decides to never let a minute go by where Chuck doesn't know how valued, how loved, and how appreciated he is. Throw all of this together with the investigation Stone and Chuck are working on, and I was turning pages like a maniac.

I liked that the main focus of this book was Chuck and Jordan, and the investigation portion was in the background. I would have loved to see more resolution with that, but on the other hand it means more stories will be forthcoming in order to solve the case. I would love to see the next novel feature Liam as he is so deserving of finding a new Dom. A great addition to the series that had me rooting for these guys all the way!

The Kiss of Leather series by Morticia Knight is such a wonderful series. If you love reading BDSM than this is a wonderful collection of books to read. I would suggest reading them in order. My personal opinion is that they aren’t standalones.
In Gaining Trust we are hearing Chuck and Jordan’s story. You’ve seen them skirting around each other in previous books. The chemistry from afar was off the charts. So, if you are like me, you were dying for their story.
Let’s talk a bit about the story. I loved the scenes between Jordan and Chuck. They were everything I was hoping for. Chuck’s shyness and natural curiosity made for a really great dynamic. It wasn’t the same old BDSM story. Like each of these books they are all unique and I appreciate the creativity the author goes through to not make it at all monotonous. Chuck is a delight. He has series family issues and it seems to be something that plagues him through a good portion of this book. The romantic suspense that holds him and Jordan back a bit if I’m being honest. Then Chuck explodes and bam it’s done. The issue I had with this was the fact that we were building and building toward this epic family face off and in one paragraph it was said and done and I wanted more. I wanted more one on one with Jordan and Chuck talking about Chuck’s family. I wanted Chuck to meet Jordan’s family and relish in the love he craves.
With each book we are also trying to solve this case of Corey’s kidnappers and abuser. It’s an ongoing thing and with each book we get a little more of the puzzle. I was again hoping for more of that in this but it looks like the author might be waiting for something so I really hope in the coming books we will see more of that and perhaps closure on it.
All in all I did like this book, it wasn’t my favorite of the series and I think it’s because of the expectations I had for Chuck and his story. This is a personal opinion of course. Also it took us away from the Kiss of Leather guys we are so accustom to.
I do very much look forward to the next book and seeing where the author takes us with it.

Gaining Trust (Kiss of Leather #5) by Morticia Knight
4 stars
M/M BDSM
Triggers: Murder, anti-gay family members
I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

Charlie (Chuck) is a very strong, but shy sub. He has worked his way in to the group at Kiss of Leather because of his ability to help track down the Dom who abused Corey. He has been working with Stone to figure out the mystery behind Corey's abuse and whether or not a ring of traffickers was getting away with it.

Then you have Jordan who is a Dom who has been intrigued with Chuck every since Chuck came to the collaring ceremony. He came in leathers another time and Jordan just about swallowed his tongue. Stone pushes Jordan to pursue Chuck because he knows that Chuck secretly desires the connection that Jordan can provide him. I didn't learn a lot about Jordan's life - it was mostly about him getting together with Chuck.

I have to say that despite the rank of 4 stars, I thought that Chuck and Jordan's relationship was kind of short changed in this story. They didn't really have a strong connection like the previous books. This was more superficial. We did have some resolution with Chuck's family, but it was very rushed and there was almost no discussion. I also thought that despite the nature of their relationship, their scenes were not as well written as the others.

There was a lot of information in this story, but no resolution. I can't wait to see where the mystery of what Stone discovered takes us in the next books.

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

After dancing around each other for a few months Chuck finally takes the step of going out with Jordon and agreeing to become his sub. Chuck is new to BDSM and socially a little awkward. Jordon is a laid back guy and an easy going, patient master. I liked him a lot. And I thought Chuck was brave. He says what he wants and is honest about what he likes and wants.

We get new information in relation to the crimes that Chuck is helping investigate for Kiss of Leather and I assume that story line will continue in future books.

The romance between Master Jordon and Chuck is really sweet but their love story did feel a little rushed. I would have liked it to be slowed down a little so I could savour it but maybe I just wanted a longer story so it wasn't over so soon.

I was really looking forward to Chuck’s story. I did feel a connection between the characters but not that deep in your soul connection that I have felt with other characters in the series. I feel like some of the relationship was lost with the story about the kidnappers still being a subplot. Then just when I thought things were getting good the book ended and I felt like some things felt rushed or unfinished.
Characters: well written and easy to relate to
Sex: yes
Religious: no
Would I recommend to others: yes
More than one book in the series: yes
Genre: M/M BDSM Romance
Would I read more by this author: yes

Patience, Caring and Love!

An investigation, intolerant family and looking for a ‘Forever’ boy describes the Chuck & Jordan story. Another enjoyable read in the Kiss of Leather series. I like the characters and the premise. However, I feel the pacing was accelerated...the ‘I love you’ seemed too quick for me. Alternatively, I am hooked, on to the next installment.

*3.5 stars rounded up*

I have thoroughly enjoyed Morticia Knight's Kiss of Leather series, and the newest book, Gaining Trust, is book five in the series. Each book focuses on a different couple, while making sure that the prior couples are still involved. The continuing story line of Corey and his kidnapper's is still present and a focal point, as well as plenty of BDSM goodness. While not my favorite book so far, I have been looking forward to Jordan and Chuck's story for some time.

Readers of this series (and I do think it's necessary to read all of the books in order from the beginning to fully understand and appreciate what's going on) will remember Chuck. He's Stone's lead private investigator and has been instrumental in gathering information about Corey's kidnappers and the continuing investigation that has far reaching effects for all of the men of Kiss of Leather. He's also been quite fascinated by the BDSM lifestyle and Master Jordan specifically. Luckily for him, his attraction is reciprocated, and then some, as Jordan is more than a little taken with Chuck. One of my favorite things Morticia Knight has done in this series is not only explaining how BDSM works, but WHY it does as well. It's not preachy or clinical, but instead focuses on the emotional aspect of playing with a partner and how and why someone like Chuck might respond and crave it the way he does.

I will say though, that while I was really looking forward to seeing how the relationship of Jordan and Chuck developed, in the end I felt rather short changed. Their connection wasn't anywhere as strong or deep as that of say David and Josh (my favorite couple so far) or Stone and Marshall. It felt rushed and pretty superficial and I just didn't connect to these two like I have all the other couples so far. And not only do I feel like their entire relationship was rushed, but so was the ending, and it ended SO abruptly that I was more than a little surprised when I turned to the last page and there was nothing else. Things are left very much in the air in regards to the investigation that has been central to the last few books, and I get that we're not at the end yet so there's more to come, but still. That all being said, I'm highly invested in this series and these characters and I'll be anxiously waiting for the next book! The characters are all compelling, the story lines are engaging, and the writing is on point and the sex scenes? Yeah, they're that good. Do check this series out, it's fantastic and you'll be hooked just like I am.

Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.

And just like that, back up to 5 stars!

This is book 5 in the Kiss of Leather series, and you really REALLY should read the previous books first. There is an ongoing story arc and you need to be able to follow what's going on with that. And they are 4 and 5 stars reads 😊

Chuck has been undercover in another BDSM establishment, and has come to the conclusion he needs to be in this world. A world where these guys are so totally and utterly in love with each other, that he NEEDS that too. Master Jordan has been waiting to get his hands on Chuck, waiting for Chuck to admit what he wants to experience. Master Jordan knows that once he gets his hands on the handsome man, he might never be able to let go.

Master Jordan is, quite possibly, my most favourite of the Doms in this series. He is so laid back, any further and he would be horizontal! While very much a Dom, he is much more relaxed about it, calling Chuck things like babe, and sweetheart. He loves Chuck, right from the start and that shows in his careful handling of Chuck.

Chuck takes to Master Jordan very quickly, and I love watching these guys: Doms and subs alike, fall fast and fall HARD. Loving that it usually takes a major traumatic event to make the Doms see who they really want but not so much here.

I'm loving that each and every one of them from previous books play some part in future books. Loving the gentle introduction of the new guys. Loving the ongoing story arc that seems to be coming to a head. Loving that I have no idea when or where this is going to end!

I said in a previous review, that I'm loving the differences between the subs, but that all the Doms are these big guys and the subs are all younger and smaller. I still AM loving that, but I find myself thinking, what if?? What if there was a brand new Dom, who needs training with an older bigger sub?? Cos, you know, that would just be an amazing addition to this series!

Off to read book 6, trying really hard NOT to read them back to back but it's getting harder!!

5 stars

Chuck was first introduced to the series several books ago. There is something about the shy, young private investigator that the reader can really connect with. He has drawn the attention of some others as well, including Jordan who owns Club Consequence in another city, but is a close friend with the "Kiss of Leather" club owners. I was sure that as often as he appeared that he surely must have a story and Morticia Knight finally got around to him. We get to see what Chuck’s family is like, and we learn more about Jordan and what he is looking for in a partner. Chuck's family...if you can call them that, should be taken out and hung. He makes a wise decision to settle in with his friends at "Kiss of Leather" and explore a possible relationship that he can count on, with Jordan. This story did an excellent job portraying a young man just coming to terms with his submissive nature and what he might gain from it. I really liked how Chuck bloomed under Jordan’s Mastery. The two of them grow and work together to discover what it is they both really need and enjoy. Their passion is palpable as they get to know each other. From their first cancelled date to their first time actually meeting up, and then going back to Jordan’s house, their relationship follows a course different from the others. Morticia Knight does a fantastic job of creating characters that not only complement one another but are each distinct from the others. Jordan has some characteristics that are similar to the other Doms, but he is still unique. Considering this is the fifth book in the "Kiss of Leather" series, the fact that each character still has his own voice speaks loudly to the skill of Morticia Knight. Fans of the "Kiss of Leather" series will enjoy this latest installment as much as the others thus far. If you are new to the series, I recommend starting with the first book, since each one builds from the next and the characters from the previous books always stroll though. However, they do seem to be okay as standalones. I am so glad that I bought the series and now can look forward to the rest of the stories and then some rereads.

Gaining Trust is the fifth book in the Kiss of Leather series by author Morticia Knight. This one is one of my personal favorites. I love Chuck. He is inquisitive, bright, and an amazing character to meet.
Chuck is a shy private investigator. He is also a sub. He works for the men of the Kiss of Leather club. He is so adorably sweet and while he comes from money you would never know it. He just is a kind character.
Jordan owner of club Consequence. He keeps asking Chuck out only to be put off. Well in this book they finally get that date. He is a good fair Master. He is willing to have a Sub that has not been in the lifestyle like Chuck.

This book does have to be read in order. The storyline has been building up for a while. There are characters we know, and love introduced again in this book. I also like visiting the couples we know and love already while having a new couple’s storyline introduced. There is a lot of heart and soul in this series and I love it. Bring on the Masters and the Subs that love them.

Best series ever IMO

Where do I start? First, you must read all the books in the series, preferably from the start, as it is an ongoing story, even though they could be read as a stand-alone.

This is my all-time favourite series from any author, and I'm finally getting around to re-reading them. Abet is not in order, as I suggested.
I loved the relationship between the main characters, and there's a connection between Chuck and Master Jordon. Even though Chuck has no experience at all in the BDSM world, it doesn't stop him from asking for what he wants.
Opposites attract even if your family have always been racist and sexist. Go with your heart and not what you are taught.

When I first read these books many years ago, I didn't review them, so now that is being resolved with the re-read. Always review books. Our authors rely on them.

The last few books in this series have almost seemed serial...the ending is abrupt and surprising, then picks up in the next one.

I've been waiting for Jordan and Chuck's book...we've been teased for a while with them. I love them together and am glad Chuck is finally getting the guidance and stability he needs. There is still so much to their story so I'm diving right into the next book in the series!

This series has finally hit its stride, as progress is made on the external over-arching conflict while two more characters develop a relationship together. Knight is excellent at portraying the nuances that make each power exchange dynamic unique to the pairing.

The men of Kiss of Leather have been through so much while trying to get the club up and running. They've come together to help Corey heal mentally, physically and emotionally after being under the hand of man that didn't deserve to consider himself a Master. Marshall wound up in the middle of a confrontation when Corey's former abuser kidnapped them both. Derek protects and loves Corey, Stone protects and loves Marshall, even if Marshall drives him insane on a good day. Consumed and preoccupied with the building, then the opening and everything else going on around him, Josh almost lost David. The reason I'm recapping the first four books in this series is because it's a must to have read them before you can begin Chuck and Jordan's story. Everything is entwined along the way, groundwork laid, lives tangled together. So you have to start at the beginning to appreciate the stories.

Chuck is Stone's lead investigator at the PI firm he owns, he and Jordan met while Chuck and Stone were investigating the worthless piece of shit that used to call himself Corey's master. These two have been dancing around each other for a while now. Chuck is curious about the lifestyle to say the least and very much attracted to Jordan. He's hesitant though. Jordan is a man that generally gets what he wants, and what he wants now is Chuck. He is infinitely patient and bides his time knowing that Chuck is worth wooing, worth getting to know, worth making him feel safe, comfortable and certain that what he wants is to be with Jordan, lifestyle kinks and all. Life and circumstance seem bound and determined to keep them at arms length though. Chuck has never been able to be open with his family about his sexuality. On top of that they are in the middle of some strange developments in the case against Corey's abuser that only put additional strain on everyone involved. Can Jordan convince Chuck that they are good together, that he can protect him, can he gain Chuck's trust?

I'll be the first to say, I don't dig BDSM, probably because I don't understand the concept. This series is the exception to that statement. Knight does an amazing job of explaining the ins and outs and whys to the reader. She also brings these beautifully flawed, three dimensional characters to life in such a way, you feel like you know them and can really understand them. I've been watching Chuck and Jordan's waltz through the last few books and I was waiting on their story with bated breath. I love how infinitely patient Jordan is, how he basically worships Chuck and seems to know what he's thinking and what he needs sometimes before Chuck realizes. Jordan has a base need to be in control, but he's not a control freak. Chuck has a base need to be wanted, loved for who he is regardless and... well, needed. When they finally come together it's almost like lightening strikes and fuses them together. There's no going back now, not that either of them would want to. Oh, I also really like the way Knight wrote Chuck's struggle with his families opinion of him, which sucks by the way, and how Jordan's love gives him the strength to deal with them, finally.

Definitely a must read series, but start at the beginning if you've not read any of the books yet. It's diverse, challenging, passionate and intense and well worth the read.

Since Chuck was first introduced to the series several books ago, I have been dying to read his story. There is something about the young, shy private investigator that really speaks to the reader. He draws the attention of others as well, including Jordan, the owner of Club Consequence and friend of the Kiss of Leather crew. Fans of the series will finally get to see his story!

The primary purpose of this book is to introduce Chuck and Jordan, and let them tell their story. While there are still some events going on in the background that advance the storyline of the series, unlike with the other books, it is minimal. Instead, we get to see what Chuck’s family is like, and we learn more about Jordan and what he is looking for in a partner.

If you haven’t read any of the other books, I do not recommend starting with this one, as what is advanced in the plot of the series is important information. However, this novel was excellent in portraying a young man just coming to terms with his submissive nature. I enjoyed seeing Chuck bloom under Jordan’s Mastery. The two of them grow together to discover what it is they really enjoy. Their passion is palpable as they get to know each other on the page. From their first cancelled date to their first time actually meeting up, and then going back to Jordan’s house, their relationship follows a course different from the others.

The author does a great job in creating characters that not only complement each other, but are distinct from the others. While Jordan has some characteristics that are similar to the other Doms in the series, he is still unique. Considering this is the fifth book in the Kiss of Leather series, the fact that each character still has his own voice speaks to the skill of Morticia Knight.

Fans of the Kiss of Leather series will enjoy this latest installment. If you are new to the series, I highly recommend starting with the first book, as each one builds from the next. I look forward to the next book in the series! There are so many narrative threads that need a resolution.

As a PI in Stone's investigative firm, Chuck has been a steady series secondary character in the hunt for the person who hurt Corey. He's gone undercover in a world he knows nothing about and found himself not only drawn to the lifestyle, but one Dom in particular. Jordan is more laid back in his role—not that he doesn't command respect, he's just not so very formal about it. On the one hand, this is perfect for the shy, uncertain Chuck. On the other, the scene in the club when Chuck kneels for him because he wants everyone to see his respect for his new Dom was great. Overtime, I could see these two growing together into a solid relationship with or without the BDSM element and that only endeared them more to me.

That said—there wasn't enough Jordan and Chuck. Each of the other books in the series focused on the relationship first, the case second. To me, this book was the complete reverse with the case playing such a significant role (and still without any resolution), that the romance took a back seat. Add in the whole Ian / Stone confrontation at the station, the Glen confrontation, Chuck's homophobic family and it was a lot for a 170 page book. The abrupt ending only added to that rushed feeling and had I not been able to see what Jordan and Chuck could be, I would have cried.

Questions...I have so many. At the top of my list: was the Ian confrontation a setup for an Ian book? TBH, I thought he was a big jerkface and while my investment in this series would force my hand, I would so rather see the karmic resolution of Corey's abuser so he can have a real happy ending. Then a sequel for just Chuck and Jordan where it's all about them. And then maybe a group "where are they now" book to catch up on all the couples. And then, maybe Ian, if he can stop being a jerkface.

This series must be read in order.

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

A Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words Review An Alisa Review:

Rating: 5 stars out of 5

I loved this story just as much as I have with all of the others in this series. Chuck and Jordan have been dancing around each other for the last couple books, so it was great to see them finally get their own story. It’s great to see Chuck’s trust building in Jordan when he has to deal with his combative family dynamic.

We got a quick look at Josh and David working to fix their relationship problems from the previous book, but leaves a little mystery for the future with the possibility of an additional owner for the club that gives the opportunity for more characters to come into play in future books. The rest of the book was on Chuck and Jordan’s budding relationship. Once they got going they moved pretty fast, but they had a lot of build up that had been in the background in the previous books, so they weren’t just jumping in.

They mystery of Corey’s previous dom continues throughout this book and brings in some new twists that may play a bigger role in later books. I look forward to reading more in this series while they solve the mystery, but also to see more of all the wonderful characters in this series.

The cover art is great and follows the pattern for the series.

Not my favorite couple

I thought that this story was much more heavily plot driven than the normal character driven stories in the previous books in this series. Chuck had some character development, but it was more in just entering a D/s relationship for the first time, rather than truly growing as a person.

The BDSM in this book was also much lighter than in previous books. This was partially explained that Jordan was a more laid back Dom, but they only had one scene in the book, and that was the introduction to sensory play for Chuck.

I definitely cared more about the developments in the overall plot of the series thani did about Chuck and Jordan's relationship.

Great continuation of series

This is a lovely continuation of the Kiss of Leather series (which I’m much enjoying). The MCs are both relatively unexplored in the earlier books so, although they’re somewhat familiar, this book gives a real opportunity to get to know them from the ground up. The romance between them moves quick but feels true, and with Chuck being new to BDSM it’s a perfect opportunity to learn along with him. The continued ‘slave ring’ mystery is built on a little, giving the book ties to the previous and next in the series. My only issue with these books is the slightly abrupt feeling of the ending but that’s waned with familiarity.

Oh my gosh! Talk about leaving me wanting more! I love the new romance between Jordan and Chuck but the back story is just too good. My reviews don't give anything away but at the end of each story it just leaves you wanting more if this is your favorite genre this series has everything romance, mystery, sometimes comic relief, but more importantly at least for me great character development and a strong back story that just keeps you engaged. Looking forward to the next installment ok actually I want it now but ill wait.

I was immediately drawn to this book's cover art; it's similar to the first book.
I've read that mm books with Black men depicted on the cover don't sell as well as books with nonracialized models. I want to challenge and unsettle that and call out the racist heauxs that perpetuate this. This was a fun installment; I anticipated more drama from Chuck's family but what're you gonna do?

I have been waiting for this book so long. When I finally got my hands on it, I gave up all other work until it was done. I regret nothing.

I loved Chuck and Jordan and I am so happy to finally have their story. This one was perfect. I loved them so much.

I loved it!

I gave it 5 stars because it was just so good. I'm wondering what will happen to his parents? And family? Something to think about. But thanks Morticia. Great book!
