This is an entertaining nonfiction book for children about German Shepherds. The narrative is informative without being overwhelming or boring and the color photographs are terrific. Our youngest borrowed this book from her elementary school library because we own a German Shepherd and she wanted to learn more about her.

I like Rin Tin Tin and Buddy, and every puppy is so cute! The thing about German Shepherds is they are so CUTE. They’re my favorite kind of dog ever.
German Shepherds are also very trainable, and that’s why we have one.
Some German Shepherds are white, some are black, some are black and brown, some are black, brown, and tan.
Apparently, a dog with drooping ears cannot compete in dog shows. Neither are white German Shepherds.
The thing about German Shepherds is Max von Stephanitz offered some of his dogs for work in World War I. Other soldiers thought that was silly, but the dogs performed well. They “carried messages, located wounded soldiers, and stood watch for their new masters.”
The most common jobs for a German Shepherd are police dog, guide dog, and guard dog.
