This manga embodies everything I hate about the Japanese manga scene.

Firstly, its "heroine" is better described as a "glorified damsel". Her IQ is probably less than zero. She does a lot of vacant staring and getting mesmerised. And she also does a lot of getting kidnapped and/or sexually harrassed. This is the usual stereotype. Usually, it doesn't get that bad. But let me just illustrate how bad she is: the gimmick of First Girl is that the romantic lead wears this type of perfume based on some made-up flower from his exotic home country. Blue roses from Tornadia? Something like that. Mio of course thinks he smells rip-all-my-clothes-off sexy. She's fricking obsessed with this smell. So along comes evil ugly perverted old General Not-Supposed-To-Root-For-Him-But-You-Still-Do-Because-The-Good-Guys-Are-So-Dim-What-Was-I-Talking-About?

Oh yeah. Mio is so incredibly dumb that the second General Evil puts on the same perfume she hops into a car with him without so much as thinking, "I am being really, mind-blowingly stupid and should probably stop smoking those 'blue roses' because now that I think about it that sounds like a euphemism for some kind of skunk."

Where was I? Number two! The male characters. I can count on my hand how many do not want to shag Mio. I can still count on my hand how many aren't prepared to rape her. Tip: it's the same number. So I guess I can forgive First Girl for portraying women in such a god-awful light, because they do the same to men. Maybe I could believe that ok, deciding to sleep with the near-stranger could be an informed decision on Mio's part. If she wants to give away her virginity then hey, go ahead. But why favour Leon? Oh, because he's the prettiest? Well tough luck, because your opinion is worthless and your body is all you are. According to...well, pretty much everyone.

Next up is the plot. "Plot". There's a civil war. General Evil takes over. Leon disappears. Mio runs around trying not to be rapist-bait. Erm...yeah, it goes on for a couple of years. At some point Leon teaches Mio the tango. This comes up a lot. I didn't know anything about the tango before I read this book, but it seems to be this kind of magical dance that makes you fall in love with people, utterly seduces women, is super-easy to learn, and - get this - can switch a room of people instantly to your side!

Wait. WHAT.

This is how the conflict is resolved. Our pretty little leading couple have a 'last dance' before execution (which I was quite looking forward to, actually) and somehow it's so beautiful and amazing and sad and seductive that everybody in the room - they are all experts on dance, because everybody in a Latino country is - suddenly start crying and applauding and decide that it's probably best to overturn the rule of General Evil and give it to Leon instead. What can I say? The guy dances a good tango. They live happily ever after. Of course Leon has some 'issues' or something that are never fully discussed, but he'll get over it because, look, the blue roses are back! Mmm. Smells like sexy.

So read this if you're a sadist. Or if, like me, you were hoping that the tragedy label would mean they die. Or at least someone dies. Of course Leon gets shot, but this is such a gigantic cliche. I can list five other drama/smuts it happens in. And that's not even going into yaoi. You do not think he will die. You do not even think Juan will die, and he's romantic competition. You know he's romantic competition because he's the only other guy that doesn't express an overwhelming desire to rip all of Mio's clothes off and defile her right there on the floor. I can't believe how casually this manga treats rape. "It's war, it's all good, oh shit, here's Juan, he looks pretty pissed, let's slink away and suffer no repercussions for what was nearly a war crime and let him give the lady her bra back."

Anyway, I was trying to stop ranting. Yes, read this if you like reading characters get abused over and over again. Or if, like me, you didn't realise how terrible it was until you got a bit older, looked back and thought: wow, I did NOT get that when I was thirteen, and that's probably a good thing.

Okay, this was pretty good, but before I start exploring let me tell this title even ended up on my list of to-read books. It was right after I finished re-reading Soul to Seoul. This title was on the “you might also like this” list. I got interested because I thought I have pretty much read all available smut romance manga. Apparently I still have a long way to go. Because there was something wrong with my iPad connection to Wi-Fi, whatever I could read at that time was happiness. Don’t worry, it’s fixed (hopefully) apparently my iPad don’t like my abs challenge apps.

Okay, enough with my nonsense, let me get back to the actual story. It was not all that unique, it followed the “smut protocol” all the way, but nevertheless I had fun reading it, and trust me I finished it in less than 2 hours. The story has action, romance, some smut and tons of tango. I’m in love with Latin dances, though I have yet to learn tango, I have always been attracted to it. But right now, you can call me a salsa person. Okay, enough with my dance take, let’s once again get back to the story. The protagonist is Miu a 17-year-old Japanese girl who was sold by her own mother to Leon Rosas, from a shadow family in the country of Tornado. (don’t ask me here, just accept such country in south America, I do hope it was over there). First Miu is against this whole arrangement., but soon she falls in love with Leon and after the crisis strikes the Rosas household our love birds even marry each other and that’s where the real story and the struggle for them starts.

Tornado is in turmoil, there is revolution, but it only brings despair and Leon and Miu have separated because of it and now Miu is looking for Leon to re-establish their family. There are a lot of barriers on their journey to start their own family and free Tornado from the Tyranny of the army. There are going to be a lot of moments when you’ll think that it’s futile end our heroes will never be together, but will it really? That’s for you to find out, and I hope you’ll enjoy this story. Don’t mind the art, it’s pretty much what was in trend in the 2000s. enjoy it to its fullest and don’t forget to share your thoughts below! Stay tuned for more reviews as well as promos. Don’t miss your next favourite book or manga! Happy reading!

I'm so glad, that Juan didn't die, loved his character too.
Leon...Leon...You gave me fright a there, when you got shot...I was laready afraid, that Miu and Leon were going to die together...I already thought that the genre "tragedy" was not written by mistake...I'm so glad you didn't die!
