Stardust Child

Rate this book
Children are full of questions as their minds are busy figuring out the intricacies and immensities of themselves and their universe. Stardust Child was inspired by the words of renowned astrophysicist, Neil deGrasse Tyson . We are biologically connected to everything in the world. We are all, not figuratively, but literally, made of stardust.   The story of Stardust Child celebrates that we all share the same essence despite limiting labels and cultural differences. Picture by picture, the story instills the concept of our oneness, our ecological interdependence, and the unique light that each of us brings to the world.  Keep asking questions!

Stardust Child is not a rhymed book, but it is rhythmic, and can be read out loud with enthusiasm. It is based in the idea that the entire universe is interconnected, and that each child is made up of atoms released by stars, a scientific notion proposed by Neil deGrasse Tyson an astrophysicist, cosmologist, and author. The writing in this book follows the same track as "This Is the House That Jack Built" going from the milk the child drinks to connection to the universe. The illustrations get increasingly more interesting as the universe comes into focus, with the child and cow sprinkled with stars.

This is an absolutely delightful book to read. The rhyming text and bright, colorful illustrations combine to convey a wonderful, meaningful message about the real, tangible, and scientifically verifiable bond that we humans share with all living things on Earth -- and with everything else that we can see in the cosmos! Truth to tell, we are all children of the stars, and the author and illustrator deliver this "science lesson" in grand style!

Very highly recommended to children of all ages -- including grown-up ones!

Stardust Child is a light and enchanting story that highlights the profound connectivity of the cosmos to everything else in our daily lives. Joann Leonard manages to simplify a very complex matter (pun intended!) so that children of all ages can understand how all things originate from stardust. Stardust Child is the wonderment of science depicted in pictures and rhythmic verse.

Colorful and engaging art accompanies the written cadence to connect the reader to this charming story just as the story, itself, connects stardust child to the universe.
