A fabulous collection of stories by some of today's top Christian fiction authors. People who think all hope of love is past find themselves with a second chance at love ,all in God's timing. I really love Barbour Collections, such beautiful covers and I can always count on beautiful faith filled inspiring stories. Pub Date 01 Aug 2017 Thank you to NetGalley and Barbour Publishing, Inc. for a review copy in exchange for my honest review.
Second Chance Brides is a delightful collection of nine historical romance stories, and they will be keeping you reading long into the night. Whether you have just a few minutes, or several hours to read, this book should fit the bill, you can quickly read one, or continue on to the next. These stories span decades, and not only do they provide a great time to get lost in; they offer many historical facts, which I loved. From on to the next they varied as to the time period, and kept my interest right to the end. I also found myself with a few chuckles, watch for the names of some of the characters. I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Barbour, and was not required to give a positive review.
Do you believe in second chances? I think most of us do. This collection brings nine couples together for a second chance spanning from 1777 to 1944. I found each one was a touching love story! I requested a copy through NetGalley. No review was required. My opinion and review is voluntary...
A noteworthy collection of inspirational historical romances, set between the Revolutionary War up to World War 2. Women and men who find their lives changed by a new encounter or reacquaintance, get a second chance at lasting romance. Some of the stories had a real depth and seriousness, set during a time of war or great difficulty. Some of the women found themselves backed into a marriage of convenience out of need, while others fought to overcome prejudice and societal norms to be with the person they'd chosen. All were good reads, but I especially liked Fanned Embers, Daughter of Orion, and the Prickly Pear Bride. What the Heart Sees was very good too. (For details on each story, please see the attached comments.) Recommend for readers who enjoy Christian historical romances. 4.5 stars
(An e-book was provided by NetGalley and Barbour Publishing. All opinions are my own.)
This was a good selection of novellas and I would rate it a 4/5 stars.
Love in the Crossfire by Lauralee Bliss
Gretchen is engaged to Rolf, a Loyalist sympathizer who dies fighting in the war. Yet, she struggles with what side of the war she believes in. On the same day that Gretchen finds out her fiancé has died, she meets Jake Rowlings, a man with the Continentals hiding out in her barn trying to stay warm.
-Gretchen kissing and falling in love with Jake so soon after her fiancé died seems wrong.
-I found Jake entirely too full of himself. He seemed to think he single handedly would win the war.
-A lot of the book seemed very unrealistic and there was too much focus on the war instead of developing real relationships between the characters
Fanned Embers by Angela Breidenbach
Montenegrin Lukas Filips has left his homeland and his title for the opportunities in America. He takes a job working as a mining foreman to earn enough money to support his mother and sister back home.
Juliana's husband was killed by a Montenegrin and now she lives as a widow baker to earn money. She dreams of one day earning enough money to open her own bakery.
-This was an interesting story that had action as well as romance. It was very well developed, especially for a novella.
-I would love a continuation of this story. I would be interested in their story as well as hearing more about Lukas' mother and sister.
Daughter of Orion by Ramona K. Cecil
Widow Matilda must make money to cover the debt her Captain father and seafaring husband have left her after they died, so she poses as a cabin boy where she meets Tom a harpooner.
Matilda has vowed to never again give her heart to a seaman. Tom is hiding the fact that he is the reason for the death of Matilda's father and husband. Will their pasts keep them apart?
-There are a lot of disgusting things that happen in whaling but I thought the author did a good job with the way she wrote about it.
-I love that Matilda was so committed to bringing Tom's heart to God.
The Substitute Husband and the Unexpected Bride by Pamela Griffin
Cecily plans to enter a marriage of convenience with Zeke, a boy she knew of from her hometown in Massachusetts. After her long journey to Seattle, she learns that Zeke has died.
Due to the guilt that Garrett feels for the part he played in Zeke's death, he offers marriage to Cecily.
Cecily thinks that Garrett would be happier married to the widow Brown who looks perfect to Cecily but makes rude comments. Garrett believes Cecily doesn't return his feelings, so he hides himself away. Will their misunderstandings ruin any chance of a happy marriage?
-I like the characters, but I wish there were more interactions between Paul and Gwen. Paul and Gwen seemed to lack some personality.
-The widow Brown's mention of how in love Garrett and his first wife, Linda, were was the perfect way to unnerve Cecily.
The Widow of St. Charles Avenue by Grace Hitchcock
On the day Colette starts to come out of mourning her late husband, Robert, she runs into Norman Hartley the former boy next door who had moved to New York when he was twenty.
Robert had forbid Colette of doing charity work but after his death she decides to teach Bible class. She meets the pastor's con, Malcolm Reilly, who wants her to help teach a boy's Bible class.
One man believes in her dream of building a school for the orphan boys but one doesn't. Will she make the right decision?
-I'm curious as to how the boys who got to attend the school were chosen. It is obviously a huge benefit to live at the school instead of the orphanage.
-The story of the ink ribbon was cute.
-This novella had things that were predictable but I enjoyed the story.
The Prickly Pear Bride by Pam Hillman
Evelyn is the topic of town gossip when she leaves Ollie at the altar because she knows he is in love with another woman.
Cole is new to town and looking to build a cattle ranch when he is called upon to help Evelyn with shepherding.
-I liked the scene at the beginning of the book with how Evelyn and Cole met.
-Ollie and Angie never should have allowed Evelyn to take the blame for backing out of the wedding.
-I don't really understand why Evelyn is described as prickly.
-I enjoyed this novella but it seemed to end abruptly.
Married by Mistake by Laura V. Hilton
Thomas Hale has been hiding out after a girl he formally courted ruined his reputation by lying and telling everyone he was a spy and had an improper relationship with a maid. He lives in seclusion until he meets Bessie O'Hara. Archie notices his best friend's interest in Bessie so he arranges a "pretend" wedding for an advertising campaign that turns out to be real.
-The courting period and falling in love after the wedding was rushed and skipped over.
-Since they were already married, I understand Thomas and Bessie respecting their parents but getting their permission didn't make sense to me.
-Even after the marriage, Bessie seems to think she would have been happy with any random husband she had handed to her.
-I enjoyed the plot and the beginning of the story but didn't like it as well at the rushed parts.
Love in Disguise by Amber Stockton
Anna St. Claire leaves her life in New York to move to Breckenridge, Colorado in order to escape living in her sister's shadow.
Trevor leaves his business life in New York and moves to Colorado to live as a cowboy.
Anna had feelings for Trevor in the past but he never noticed her, so when he meets her in Colorado, Anna hides who she really is from him.
As a highly eligible bachelor, Trevor is overcome by numerous women he has no interest in. Anna agrees to pretend to be courting him in order to fend off the other women.
-I found it unusual that Trevor would ask someone he thought was a stranger to fake a courtship with him as soon as he meets her.
-Anna having her picture in the paper and the description written about her also seemed odd.
-I have lots of questions about their future and wonder how their relationship issues would have been resolved without the fire happening.
What the Heart Sees by Liz Tolsma
Miriam Bradford spent a summer with her mother in Germany where she met and courted Paul Albrecht. Five years later they meet again when Paul is a German POW in Miriam's American hometown.
-Miriam convincing Paul to break the rules and leave the camp was wrong. She seemed to do it because she was bored and wanted to have an adventure.
-I really like that the preacher is holding services for the POWs and is really concerned with their spiritual health regardless of the town's opinion on the matter.
-The author makes good use of the passage of time to advance the story along.
-A lot of times I like reading more lighthearted novels and this wasn't one. However, I really enjoyed it. It was interesting and made you think.
-I haven't read a lot of stories from this time period and am not a fan of war stories but this was really well done.
I received an ARC but the opinions expressed here are 100% my own.
The Second Chance Brides Collection is a collection of nine historical romances that offer new hope for love. These nine romances include: Love in the Crossfire by Lauralee Bliss Fanned Embers by Angela Breidenbach Daughter of Orion by Ramona K. Cecil The Substitute Husband and the Unexpected Bride by Pamela Griffin The Widow of St. Charles Avenue by Grace Hitchcock The Prickly Pear Bride by Pam Hillman Married by Mistake by Laura V. Hilton Love in Disguise by Amber Stockton What the Heart Sees by Liz Tolsma These romances are great! I enjoyed every one of them. They are sweet, clean and fun. Each one are only abt 40-50 pages long, making for quick reading despite the size of the book. My favorite story would have to be Pam Hillman's The Prickly Bear. Which is a great title, by the way. I would highly recommend this book! 5 plus stars
I enjoyed all the books in this collection. Outstanding authors coming together to share a wide variety love and circumstances for couples searching for a second chance to marry while all along the Lord leads.
Barbour Publishing has become one of my favorite go to publishers. for Christian historical fiction. Always feeding my appetite for a good read.
Nine brides are given a second chance at love in these nine short stories. Each story is written by a different author and is tied with the other stories by the theme of second chances, faith, Love, and family. Each novella showcases the individual authors writing style and gives you a glimpse into what a full length would be like. The stories are perfect for when you only have a short time to read and want to get lost in romance and sweet plots. I enjoyed all of the stories, although a couple were my favorites.
If you enjoy clean romance, stories about redemption and second chances, and finding new authors, than you’ll love this book. It would also make an excellent gift for the bookworm in your life.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts expressed are my own.
I seldom read short stories collection, but I found this book collection enjoyable. The storyline and characters were great in all the stories, but my favorite short story is "Married by Mistake" by Author Laura V. Hilton. All the writers are great and I would read any of their books. This is a fantastic book to read, especially if you're looking for an author to read.
I received a complimentary copy from NetGalley. This review is one hundred percent my opinion.
While I loved each and every story here, I'm going to focus on my favorite - Fanned Embers by Angela Breidenbach.
This was such a great story. I loved Julianna and Lukas and how their characters came together. Julianna was stubborn and didn't really seem to like where she was. At all. Lesson learned here? Sometimes the Lord has you right where He wants you - and you just have to accept that! I love how Lukas automatically became her protector. I pretty much liked him instantaneously at that point. He's the kind of man you want on your side!
I found it kind of amusing how Julianna and Lukas tried to keep their feelings at bay, ignore them, and push them aside. As a reader, you almost get frustrated, but continue reading because you need to see what the author has in store for them. Sometimes it takes a disaster to bring two people together. And sometimes this disaster is a great way for a hero to show off his "knight and shining armor" abilities.
Again, all of these stories were wonderful, romantic, and a joy to read. I think you'll find yourself smiling at the end of each and every one of them! I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Each of these novels follows one brother and I enjoyed most of them though they did become repetitive and the brothers' names were mixed up once or twice which was annoying and then there was the fact this collection of stories became somewhat boring as the exact same story was told two or three different ways with different characters but could have been a former book in the series. I enjoyed the first ones in this collection and they were what all interesting but not near to being a favorite collection. The last book was wonderful and by far my favorite. It is a nice read to take on a five-state, three-day, 20 hourish drive, road trip though. Rating: 2 and 1/2 stars. Recommendation: 16/17 up for romance. Verse: Ecclesiastes 3:1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: (King James Version.)
There are literally 9 novellas in this collection--what a prize!
I can honestly say I enjoyed them all. I learned more about history and faith. Several stood out to me--Angela Breidenbach's Fanned Embers was very well written. The tension and fear toward the end had me skimming to find out what happened. That is very difficult to do in such a short piece and I will be searching for more of her books.
What the Heart Sees opened my eyes (and I promise that terrible pun was an accident) to the existence of POW camps on American soil during WWII. I didn't know and now I do and that's valuable.
The Second Chance Brides Collection Lovers of historical romance will certainly find something to enjoy in this set of nine stories that span from the Revolutionary War to World War 2. Men and women are given a second chance at love while growing their faith. In the first story, Love in the Crossfire, Gretchen’s fiancé left for war and never returned. She lives with her father and they try to survive while keeping their small farm running. When Jake, from the enemy’s army, arrives and hides in their barn, Gretchen must choose what is best for her. Is it the war her fiancé fought and died for or is it new independence and freedom from Britain? And how will Jake fit into her choices? The next story is Daughter of Orion. Matilda disguises herself as a cabin boy on a ship in order to make enough money to pay off her father’s debts when he is killed in a whaling accident. The work is grueling and exhausting, but she is determined. She meets Tom, a handsome harpooner; she has to remember that he thinks she is a boy, all the while fighting her growing feelings for him. When a storm comes upon them, they must fight for their lives and each other. In The Substitute Husband and the Unexpected Bride, Cecily travels with her young sister all the way to Washington Territory where she is to marry a young man she once knew. However, upon arrival, she finds that he has been killed in a work accident. Unable to find work and unsure what to do, she accepts a proposal from Garret, who worked with her betrothed. The marriage is to be in name only, until they are comfortable together. Can they intertwine their two lives and become a marriage of love? The Prickly Pear Bride was my favorite of the stories. In it, Evelyn is a Shepherdess, helping her grandfather with his sheep. She is known all over town as the lady who left her groom at the altar. However, she didn’t leave him there because she was prickly; she left him so he could find true happiness with the one he actually loved. When Cole rides into town to start a cattle ranch, he saves her and the sheep from an overflowing creek. Can he also save her from her reputation and herself? The Widow of St. Charles Avenue is about Colette, a young woman who married a man out of obligation. When he passes and she finds herself out in society again, she discovers many men are just interested in her wealthy late husband’s inheritance. When she starts helping Malcolm teach young boys at an orphanage, she finds her heart stolen by the boys and maybe even by Malcolm. In Married By Mistake, Thomas and Bessie pose for photographs for a friend who wants to open his home up as a resort. In the photos, they are to be getting married. What they don’t know though, is that it isn’t just a photo shoot; it is a real wedding. What happens next? Do they stay married, get an annulment, or even worse, a divorce? This funny story will lighten your heart as you watch them find true happiness together. In Fanned Embers, Juliana works hard as a baker to save enough money to get away from the railroad camp where she lived with her late husband. She is constantly besieged with requests for her hand from the rough miners. When Lukas offers to help keep the would-be suitors at bay by pretending to be in a relationship with her, she accepts his offer. However, as they get to know each other, can their relationship move past the pretend phase? And when a fire breaks out and takes over much of the mountain where they live and work, can they survive and find their happy ending? From a Distance tells the story of Trevor and Anna, two people who once knew each other, although Trevor doesn’t remember Anna. She chooses to keep their past affiliation a secret because she is afraid he may not want to see her anymore if he knows the truth. Trevor finds himself falling for her, but when he discovers the truth, he isn’t sure he can trust her. Can the two of them find their way back to each other for the third time? Finally, in What the Heart Sees, Miriam and Paul must find a way to be together. Five years prior, they met and fell in love in Germany when she was there with her mother. Now, World War 2 is happening and Paul is a POW in her home town. But, prejudice and anger at the Germans makes it seem almost impossible for them to follow their hearts and find what they once had. Her father, especially, is against the idea. When meeting in secret causes them both to get into trouble, will they ever find their way back to each other? I really enjoyed these stories. They were fun and lighthearted and easy to read. If you enjoy history and romance, you will find a smile on the pages of this book. I received a free copy of this story from NetGalley for my honest opinion.
Love in the Crossfire by Lauralee Bliss - this novella hinged on the varied allegiances among colonists during the revolutionary war. We hear about brother turning against brother during the civil war, but it never occurred to me that it would have happens during the revolutionary war as well. The love story seemed to go too fast to be realistic, but the writing did give me a new perspective. 3 stars
Fanned Embers by Angela Breidenbach - this novella was such a great story. The characters and their struggles seemed real and personal. Little details (like damaged ruffles and the aroma of fresh bread) made me feel like I was actually there in Adair. I hope Ms. Breidenbach follows this up with additional, full-length stories with these characters. She most definitely has a new reader in me! 5 stars
Daughter of Orion by Ramona K. Cecil - this novella was interesting in terms of both the whaling aspects and the way it portrayed people's behavior. People behaving badly when they don't think they are being watched. People unable to hide who they truly are and who they are attracted to. 4 stars
The Substitute Husband and the Unexpected Bride by Pamela Griffin - this novella with the cumbersome name was quite nice. The characters are likable people, struggling with difficult circumstances. The timing felt right with this story. 4 stars
The Widow of St. Charles Avenue by Grace Hitchcock - this novella was sweet and had a twist from childhood. I'm a sucker for characters charged with taking care of orphans. I really didn't care for Norman or Julia. Would there have been no regulations to follow in opening a school for orphaned boys? 4 stars
The Prickly Pear Bride by Pam Hillman - this novella is a quick story about a woman avoiding people because of talk and doing a lot of hard work. It always feels good when she finds someone who really sees her like Cole does. The length doesn't do the story justice though -- with the whirlwind entry of the boss' daughter and the wrap up without letting us enjoy the couple together. Also, some of the details seemed really extraneous to this story -- the baby, giving up the fabric --which is especially challenging in a novella where the author needs to get the job done as efficiently as possible. 3.5 stars because it would have been better as a full length production
Married by Mistake by Laura V. Hilton - this novella is set on Mackinac Island, one of my absolute favorite places! The story was predictable from the start, but it was so sweet and the characters so kind, that was easily forgiven. This story felt like a little piece of comfort, one you want to read on a rainy Saturday morning under cozy blankets. It was so nice to approach this novella from the perspective of a second chance groom. 4.5 stars
Love in Disguise by Amber Stockton - What an interesting twist that our couple gets a second chance at love with each other. I really like the way this collection keeps the variety. This novella was nice, although some things seemed odd... Did Anna use a pseudonym with everyone in town? Why would she have done that? It's not like anyone was looking for her or she was hiding from someone. I thought that was whee the reveal would come, but nope! Ms. Stockton got me. 3 stars
What the Heart Sees by Liz Tolsma - This novella brings us forward in time to the WW2 era. I never thought about how difficult it would have been for a German citizen to gain permission to imitate permanently to the US in the immediate aftermath of the war, unless you were a famous rocket scientist. There was a lot of underlying motivation in this story which makes the characters seem real. 3.5 stars
Thank you to NetGalley and Barbour Publishing for a free copy of this book to read and review. All opinions above are my own.

The Second Chance Brides Collection well there aren't words great enough for these Novella's. They are wonderful, adventurous, yet sorrowful, abounding in love, beautiful, some greivefull., yet boundless in fun and Faith, chivalrous, compassion, debonair, downright enjoyable and full of the Faith in JESUS and isn't that the most important thing? There is one story who a woman who has lost her husband and father at sea. A year later she does something you and I never would have thought to do in a million years , .......what was that? you have to get the book. Another story there is a women who goes many many miles over water to get married and when she gets off the ship with her ten year old sister - sickly - the both of them in their own ways ..... nope you have to read the book. Then you have a poor young women who has kept herself out of society for two years because of the loss of her husband. On the first time out in Society after two years her good friend from childhood comes up to her and finds out that she was married - he was sad - but he was passed on to glory - he was dead - he was happy - for himself - he then..........nah you have to read the book to find out what happens and boy how do you do is it good. Also, there is a story of a girl - girl - she is a woman - who was sheepherding sheep - of course they were sheep - anywho - and was caught on the wrong side of the rising water when a cowboy just happen to com riding by and he rescued her - thought it was a he until halfway through the rising water rescuing her - then...........nope not going to tell you but boy howdy is there an incredible tale to this one. Then the next is about a debutante and a Socialite. The man has a bad history with a women - or is it? She has no interest in meeting men or does she? Then she came back home and he was forced into the Nazi Army. Then........I am not going to tell you what happens next just that it is such a heart warming struggle. Will they ever get together with that war and the past between them? Will they get together with more than not only the war and the past getting in between them.? You have to read this book or you will miss out on way too much.
A delightful read. Some stories where full of adventure, others had a slower pace but each story had something of value. Love in the Crossfire by Lauralee Bliss, it was interesting to see read about the war that led to america becoming a country. Fanned Embers by Angela Breidenbach was one of the adventurous ones and what stood out for me was not prejudging people before getting to know them. Daughter of Orion by Ramona K. Cecil was an interesting read as one got a glimpse of what whaling was about. The Substitute Husband and the Unexpected Bride by Pamela Griffin was a personal favourite, there was just so much I loved about it but the heroines strength, her will to survive and take care of her sister despite the circumstances she was in, was very commendable.
The Widow of St. Charles Avenue by Grace Hitchcock was lovely as one often thinks of how they can help in society and despite the lack of support from family and friends the heroine did what she felt was right and did what she could to help even though it wasn't everybody, she played her part.
The Prickly Pear Bride by Pam Hillman another interesting read. The heroines strength, despite all the town had to say about her and her insistence on helping her grandfather was admirable.
Married by Mistake by Laura V. Hilton had some very interesting circumstances but I liked the clear message of the gospel near the end.
Love in Disguise by Amber Stockton was a very sweet story and I was glad that everything worked out well in the end.
What the Heart Sees by Liz Tolsma was a very powerful read. The message was clear that what is important is in the heart, not the persons skin colour, not their race but what is in the Heart.
All in all a lovely book with uplifting, inspiring, adventurous and powerful stories. Thanks to Barbour Publishing and Netgalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
This sweet collection of short stories about second chances for nine women set in history from 1776-1944 was a fun pool side read. Each story moves quickly and at first I felt rushed to get to know the characters and didn't like that things moved so unrealistically fast. Do people really fall in love so quickly? Is that real love or just initial attraction? But I supposed that's the nature of short stories. Once I put that into consideration I enjoyed each story more. I really liked that I could start a story and not feel like I had to devote whole night to it. I could read just one and get to bed, or read a few pool side while the kids swam. I like that the stories were about love and second chances, but also about faith. Both the hope and strength it gives people. Each of these stories is a clean read. Death is mentioned in some of the stories, there is some kissing. Admittedly I liked some more than others. My favorites were The Widow of St. Charles Street, Fanned Embers, and From a Distance. Would I read it again? Yes Would I recommend it to adults? Yes Clean read about love, romance, death, faith.
I received this book from NetGalley. I was under no obligation to give a positive review. All opinions are my own.

It's been awhile since I read short stories. I'm much more of a novel reader, mostly because I like there to be plenty of room for the characters to grow and fall in love. Unfortunately, several of the stories in this book were constrained by the length. I liked all of the plots of the stories, and the characters were almost all appealing, but I felt that as a whole, most of the stories didn't have enough room to really tell the story. I wanted so much more, and before I knew it the story would end with a tied up, pat, happily-ever-after.
The writers were all very talented, and I'd be very interested in reading their other work.
My favorite story was "What the Heart Sees" by Liz Tolsma. It helped that the heroine and hero had been in love in the past, and the story focused mostly on the trials in the present to get them together.
It's not all negative, though. As I said, the writers are all talented, and the plots were all very interesting. I guess in the end I wanted more than short stories. Others may love them much more than I did.
Barbour Books is the most prolific publisher of novella anthologies, and this is another one of their quality collections. These olios are best for reading during rainy afternoons or when the reader has a spare hour.
These brides may be a little older, long in the tooth, and a bit more weathered by life. They may be widowed, or jilted, or have lost a fiance through death. Some of the novellas take place during or after one of the wars the US has been involved in. Some of the men are needing wives because they have children, or an inheritance to claim, or for some other reason. Some of the men just see a vulnerable woman and step in to take care of her and end up falling in love.
The authors of these tales are quality writers who have written for Barbour before. The settings are as varied as the authors who write the stories. Post World War I, post Civil War, post Revolutionary War, the eras are as vast as the settings and characters.
This is a five star collection, two thumbs up, and a second chance.
My thanks to Barbour Books for allowing me to read and review this book
In this 9-novella collection, readers are introduced to women who get a second chance at love over the course of more than a century of history in the United States. With a variety of backgrounds and plots, it is easy to enjoy one after another. I found myself disappointed in only one - Love in Disguise by Amber Stockton. Ms. Stockton, I am astonished by the amount of equine inaccuracies present in the first two pages of your story. Please, please, do some research before you write about a subject. Stalls are not covered in hay, but straw. A horse cannot be a mustang and an Appaloosa (breed) at the same time. If it is an appaloosa color, it is not capitalized. The top of a horse's head is a poll, not a crest. This turned me off completely, and I couldn't read anymore of the story. All the other stories were well written, interesting, and expressing a great variety of settings. I enjoyed learning about some of the more unique historical situations in American history! Unfortunately, I don't think I can pick a favorite - they are all 4+ stars to me! Highly recommended.
How can a romance reader not love this collection? It is the best collection yet. I really enjoyed the stories from Angela Breidenbach with her amazing historical setting in Montana/ Idaho I was instantly reminded of the beauty for heart and soul in this part of the country. Pam Hillman gave another perspective of Montana and I thought she designed a character that was very unique, not usually used.
Overall, a great collection and reminder that we all get second chances when we least expect them.
I was provided a copy of this book, I voluntarily chose to review the book. These are strictly my personal thoughts.
The Second Chance Brides Collection By: Lauralee Bliss, Angela Breidenbach, Ramona K. Cecil, Pamela Griffin , Pam Hillman, Laura V. Hilton, Grace Hitchcock, Amber Stockton, Liz Tolsma This Collection is of nine Historical Romances that offer New Hope for Love. There are nine different authors and nine different stories . This is some sweet stories of a second chance finding love. I enjoyed this collection. I especially enjoyed Laura V Hilton and Angela Breidenbach stories. Any of these can be read as a stand-a-lone with out any problems. These are short stories so you can read one then come back later and read more or keep reading. These women find themselves getting a second chance at love. I was given a complimentary book , but was not told that I had to give a positive review.
Women who have lost at love and think they are doomed to be alone forever receive a second chance at love in this sweet novella collection. From 1777 to 1944, romance flares and flames ignite for nine lonely women. I really enjoy novella collections as they are quick reads. I like being able to finish each novella in a short period of time. They are great for busy readers. I also love historical fiction and this book will satisfy lovers of romance and historical fiction. I am rating this novella collection 4 stars and highly recommend it to readers. I received an ebook of this novella collection from netgalley and Barbour Books in exchange for an honest review.

An amazing collection of novellas, and an interesting read written by popular Christian authors. It was a lot of fun to read these stories about women who think that their chance of love is gone, only to find love in God's timing. I greatly enjoyed this collection of second chance love stories. I will sometimes have trouble with short stories, but this collection held my attention and was a wonderful adventure. Being able to follow all these woman as they gain a renewed hope for their futures.
Another cute read in the Barbour multi-author romance collection books. As always, these stories are cute, quick to read and clean. My favourite was "The Widow of St. Charles Avenue" by Grace Hitchcock. The other stories were fine but not quite as good, in my opinion. I liked that the stories were set in date order. Also, in "Married by Mistake" by Laura V. Hilton, it was a refreshing change that the Hero was the one looking for a second chance at love.
As is the case with all story collections, some were good, some great, some not so much. Overall, however, I was impressed with the quality of stories in here and really enjoyed reading them and getting to know all the different characters. All the authors wrote well, just some were better at the short story aspect than others. Would totally read a few of them again.
Sweet stories of a second chance at finding love. Each author brings a special story to the collection. I enjoyed reading this collection. I received a copy of this book from Net Galley and the authors and this is my personal honest opinion.
