A special holiday novella for the USA Today Bestselling Darkness Series

With his friends matched up and kids running around, Jameson expects this holiday season to be like the last couple: uneventful, fraught with parties he’ll have to attend as the only single guy, and above all, quiet.

That is, until a strange entity is suspected to be creeping around the shifter compound. Suddenly, it looks like the humans researching shifters are back, and the only person who can keep them safe is one of Jameson’s kind.

Teamed with the new beta of Tim’s pack, a fiery shifter who has fought her way to the top, suddenly Jameson’s lifelong aversion to shifters is tested. He must face his mistrust, the enemy, and above all, the holiday mirth he’s tried so desperately to avoid.

I am sad to say this is the only book of K. F. Breene's that I have not liked. It was so bad I found myself fast reading through it and finished in about 1.5 hours. I was so disappointed and had the feeling that either someone else wrote it or she wrote it overnight to meet a deadline. The characters were two dimensional and dialogue was boring. Even though I had liked Jameson the little we'd been exposed to him in her earlier books, in this book he had absolutely no depth, nor did the female lead. The plot was predictable and short with most of the time spent shagging, which is not a bad thing unless it takes over 80% of the book. I have LOVED all her earlier books and characters and I hate that this one was the end of the series. Oh well, her new series is fun. So sad for this one.

I am so glad we got to have a Book #9!

I really enjoyed it but there were things that bugged me and that is why the rating is so low compared to the rest of the series.

To start off with, it felt and probably was way too short and there for rushed. It would have been better if it was a tad bit longer so the overall story would have been more balanced.

Then there was the luck of real danger. I get that the point was to tie up one of the prominent characters' life but come on. Since you went there and all you should have taken it up a notch. But you can't do that in a story as short as this, so we circle back to my first point.

The narrative was way too confusing for me. While i enjoyed it, i had to re-read 1/3 of it cause the points of view were not clear. I couldn't understand who said what at times and that is a big problem to have when reading any book. It was supposed to alternate from Addison to Jameson, instead we got a third person narrative in the middle of one the MCs POVs. so confusing.

While the above were my main problems with this novella, I absolutely loved Addison and how great her chemistry with Jameson was and i can say I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I adore this series. The characters from these books rank pretty close to being my favorites. I was extremely happy to see that Jameson, our fearless beta, had found his mate and that it is a shifter!

This is def insta love/mate as the book only covers from Christmas Eve till New Years Eve but its quick and hot. Despite Addie being a new shifter to the area she quickly rose in ranks and is now the beta to Tim. Some humans are sneaking around and taking items from the female shifters so Jameson's help in enlisted.

Jameson and Addie meet, solve the crimes, and what starts off as a "you scratched my back, I'll scratch your" quickly became hot and sexy time between the sheets. Theres no messing around when it comes time to claim each other either. They leave the party as mates and have their Happy Ending.

It was great seeing everyone again! I love that everyone has kids now - Charles and Paulie included :-)

All I need is for KF to write Tim's story...he needs a mate now that both his beta's have been snatched up by Vampires!

Good story, just WAY too fast! Insta-love, eternal commitment in less than 12 hours! *also* Meeting the “family” for the first time (in that same 24 hour period) then rushing up to one of their bedrooms for a multiple hour sex-fest then back down to continue visiting? Yeah… no.

I just love this series. It was good to see something good for the tough Jameson. As usual the writing is great and even though the book is a short story it is well worth it.

K F just knocks everything out the park with all her stories.

Mostly insta-love

Finally Jameson finds his mate. It just seems too easy. I am happy for him though. It was sad seeing him so lonely and awkward. He really has an amazing woman. Addison is ruthless and not someone to mess with. I like her a lot but I wish there was more about her besides some hints here and there. I enjoyed every bit.

Enjoyable read

Really a quick read, but like whipped cream on top of a cake-a lot of fluff and a HEA from beginning to end.

Not my favorite of the series. To short, but still had some badassery to it. I did dig the new Beta shifter character.

This was a short little thing. Very enjoyable, if a little fast. I gave it four stars, deducted a star for thr ridiculously long and cheesy sex scene in it. Also, it took insta-love to a whole new level of whhhaaattt. Definitely a guilty pleasure read.

It was great re-experiencing my favourite characters in this (Charles and Jonas), they provided some great humour. As for the main characters, I always found Jameson to be interesting and wish we had more of his backstory in this tiny novella. As for Addison: wow. Absolutely loved her character. Fierce yet fun. A hundred pages of her is not enough.

‘Jameson’ is book nine in K.F. Breene’s Darkness series. It’s highly recommended that the previous books are read prior to this, although it’s based off Jameson and Addy’s POV, plots, events and characters from the previous books make appearances.

The shifters have things from their female pack members going missing, Tim the Alpha speculates that it could be the humans again that took Ann. So he asks Stefan for a favour to help investigate. Everyone is off celebrating Christmas so it leaves Jameson as the only one available. Jameson still not fans of the shifters goes to meet with the new Beta who is going help. A connection is made between the two so Jameson brings Addy to the family Christmas celebration to help him fit in. But there’s something more than just friendship between Jameson and Addy.

I haven’t really been a fan of Jameson’s through this series so to have been given the chance to read his book has opened my eyes up to see what a great guy he actually is. His like a teddy bear rough on the outside but soft on the inside, just a little misunderstood. Although at times he did seem a little less dominating than Addy, he would be a little naive, unsure or questioning himself.

A great little novella that fit in perfectly with the previous books and characters. Well done to K.F. Breene for writing this series, it’s has been a wonderfully enjoyable, exciting, terrifying, swoon-worthy, jaw dropping, heart pumping, groin pulsing experience.

Rushed, rushed, rushed! This is very short. Least favorite of all the books in this series. You don't get a chance to enjoy, get to know Addison. The way she was shoved at us, I did not grow to like her. I did enjoy this side of Jameson. I'm glad he found someone, but within a span of a few hours, he helped the shifters with their security issue, located the intruders of their compound, followed the intruders back to the lab, kill some of the habitants, blow up the lab, almost have sex with a shifter who became his mate, made it to the Boss's for Christmas Eve party, had sex with and mated shifter, fall in love and start a new life. Really? In a span of a few hours. I get love at first site, but why so rushed?! I felt a little cheated and would have enjoyed a longer story. Also, Charles is a father. Why did we not experience some of that in his book? Very disappointed, but I did enjoy the series and highly recommend.

Jameson was the final book in K.F. Breene’s Darkness series (heavy sigh). I found Jameson an odd choice to feature as the MC of her final book. He had a presence in all the books in this series but it was fairly minor. His biggest appearance was in The Council when Stefan is kidnapped and he challenges Sasha for her right to lead the clan in his place. Oh he got a little more presence in Charles, but I think that was done intentionally because he was going to be the feature character in the next and last book. Not that I disliked the Jameson character. I just feel that maybe the shifter alpha Tim who had a far greater presence in the series might have been a better choice. After all he had unrequited feelings for Sasha. Then he loved Anne but lost her to Charles. The guy could have used a H.E.A. Anyway Jameson was a pretty good character in this story and Addison the shifter beta was a great M.C. Wish we’d seen more of her earlier.
Essentially this story is supposed to be about Jameson (who has mixed feelings about shifters) having to team up with Addsion the new shifter beta to sniff out and eliminate a potential new threat to the shifters. That does happen but it’s hardly the main focus of the story. What its really about is two alpha personalities experiencing some of the most powerful insta-love I’ve ever read in a modern romance story. It’s also about finding the right person to help balance you out and heal and heal your demons. The sex is off the charts hot and takes up a large portion of the pages. The story takes place at Christmas time so Stefan, Sasha and the clan with their families are all gathering to celebrate. This gives the faithful readers of the series an opportunity to get one last look at the characters they’ve come to love. Only Sasha seems to really shine in her secondary character role as she shows both her gentle heart and understanding of relationship dynamics. Much as I like the Charles character I could have used a little less of him too. There was one thing the author left hanging that leaves me wondering. Paulie complained at one point early in the story that Selene was sexually insatiable. Later she complained that they were the only couple that hadn’t completed the marking ritual of sharing blood. Even though Selene was heavy with the couple’s second child your left to wonder if there’s serious trouble in their relationship? But we’ll never know because that was as far as it went.
This being the final book in the series and since the threat to the shifters was concluded fairly early in the story and we had the excuse of holiday gatherings, I sort of wish we’d seen more of Sasha, Stefen, and the other characters who played such large roles in the previous books. A good story but not really knock your sock off way to end the series.

Perfect whirlwind romance!

Jameson the grumpy 2nd in command, highly organised, efficient, deadly and a bit of a tech savvy man hates the massive parties that his people have. Christmas is only a couple of days away. At one time he could take it or leave it as far as parties were concerned but now that so many of his people have paired up and have children it’s gone from merely uncertainty to horrifying. Tiny people, with babies being the worst they can’t even hold their own heads up they’re so fragile it’s fear inducing.

Before he has to submit to Sasha and the Boss’s Christmas party he’s got an investigation with the shifters to deal with. He’s always instinctively hated shifters, his father was killed by a demon in the same fight the Boss’s parents were killed in. The one where they were abandoned by their backup the shifters.

Tim (Bear Alpha) has a new Beta and that’s who Jameson is supposed to be working with, *wonderful*.

Odd things have been going missing at the shifter compound and intruders have been scented but not seen yet. Just footprints, a sickly flowery smell and tire tracks. So Jameson sets out to check out the security at the shifter compound finding the new Beta as he does.

A great addition to the series, I’d seriously love to read more about all of the characters. If you’ve read the others in the series you won’t want to miss this one! If the chilled bod on the cover caught your attention and this is your first glimpse of the series go to book 1 right now because you have fun times ahead.

For part of the setting to be a Christmas party, where were Dominicous & Toa? I don't think they've even been mentioned in last 2-3 stories? Where was Delilah, her mate & child? Or the other witches? I appreciate the story & background about him but for a story that seems to be thing up loose ends, it feels incomplete without the mention reappearance of the other characters. And since Emmy's introduction, there's been no dialogue or interactions with her since then.

And if Jameson's boost is a burnish frosted gold, does that mean Stefan is has progressed to a booster white? Seems hard to believe their almost tied. Makes it sound like Jameson's mate Addison is more powerful than Sasha (especially with the fast taking blood bond). And I can't see Addison being as powerful as Stefan or Sasha (in magic). Maybe that wasn't the intent of the writing, but that's how i interpreted it.

Cute story, glad to hear his happy ending, but just felt incomplete overall.

Hopefully there will be more stories for this series though. Like other clan/shifter/witch/warlock alliances. or more about how warlocks were found. Or Tim finding his mate. Or becoming kind of traveling "spokesman" for alliances. Then Addison could be an alpha. Stefan & Sasha becoming Regionals...

Going through the line

This guy was the last one to be tested in his resistance for a mate, didn’t even want one, he didn’t even actively play the game as the others did in fact. He was didn’t like kids, they annoyed me and kid didn’t like it either so it was fine by him. He kept to himself and only intermingled when necessary but when the Boss needed him he was there at a moments notice.

This story was similar in that Jameson, finds himself at a moments notice on a mission to help out the Shifter’s Organization when they’ve been intruded by a couple of times by an unknown group of humans and Jameson is sent in to beef up their security when he finds a few clues that leads to a new lab that is similar in the one where they had difficulty with two years prior.

But the surprises between the new Beta Shifter and the Lab has Jameson rethinking his perspective on Shifter’s as a whole in a different light. Now Will Jameson overcome his fears about Shifter’s or run away like he has in the past and shut down his feelings about this new shifter?

Recommend reading this ebook to find out more details on Jameson in this final chapter about Jameson and how he fits into this series that describes the ending of this series.

I keep thinking this book was maybe the most romantic of the lot? [Again I could be mistaken... granted I only read this one 3 days ago so]

But - I think it might also be in part cuz Jameson is the "least" known character? Like sure he's AROUND and is Stefan's second ... but the inner circle/focus is Sasha and her bodyguards. Sasha in the books has little on page interaction with Jameson. Just that minor stand off/assertion of wills when she goes off to rescue Stefan in [apparently?] book 3 or 4...

I liked the beta Mata [shifter] and her issues... which were pretty normal "that's life and shit" IMO but that she realizes she couldn't live in her own home ... stuff that makes her freeze, belligerently facing her fears ... being attracted to Jameson when she "knows better" [cuz he's kinda a dick].
But Jameson getting over his own shit - again the "lost little boy" thing - and OF COURSE I feel bad for him for losing a parent ... but he and Stefan man. The bigotry.

A N Y W A Y.
Their bonding over being clueless with kids... the attraction and similarities they have.

Not the best, but a cute novella to "tie up" things.

Lonely Darkness

This is (finally) Jameson & Addy’s (AKA Addison) HEA story. I was beyond happy for Jameson, both really but Addy was a new addition in this book so I only just got to know her. She was worth the wait in more ways than one. She’s a lion shifter. The beta, which is a position of power in pack hierarchy, like Fenrir. She’s only one step away from being Alpha. In time, I think she’ll ascend to that position. Time brings more experience, fights & power. Jameson is the top security second in command to his boss, Stefan. He’s always felt like an outsider, never getting close to anyone or ever felt like he could. All of that changed one fateful day when he’s tasked with helping the local shifter pack with their security setup, as they’re being surveiled by an unknown entity that is trying to make a shifter super soldier or how to integrate their DNA with ours. He is to give his security recommendations to the new beta, Addy. Talk about explosive chemistry ! Whoa!….Highly recommend !

I read all the books in this series 4 months ago but waited to read this one for the Christmas season. I like reading books with holiday themes during the holidays. Before I picked this one up again, I went back and reacquainted myself with the background story and characters. Then as I read this one, it all slowly came back to me. I forgot how much I love Charles. Hands down he’s my favorite character in the Darkness series, next to Sasha, of course. This was a fun refresher. I’d also read a lot of authors in the 4 months since I’d read the rest of the Darkness series, or any other book by Breene. Though I found a LOT of good authors since then, Breene still tops my favorites list. She is, by far, the best at writing 18+ content within amazing world and character building. I never find grammar or spelling mistakes, or even content confusion. Though, there ARE times when the dialog, fun as it is, got disorienting because I wasn’t always sure who did the talking. All in all it was a great little holiday story.

Apparently Charles wasn’t “really” the final book in the series.

It’s Christmas time and Jameson, Stefan’s second, is assigned to visit the shifter compound to ascertain whether someone is spying on them. He finds signs verifying this suspicion and eventually meets Addison, the new shifter beta. There are immediate sparks between them but Jameson needs to overcome his aversion to shifters. They follow leads and find a small, poorly set-up lab. The humans are eliminated and the lab blown up.

Addison volunteers to accompany Jameson to the Christmas festivities held at Stefan and Sasha’s home. He has always felt uncomfortable as he was the only single person there so accepts her offer. One thing leads to another and the rest, as they say, is history.

YAY! I'm so excited that I finally got to read this book. I waited for a long time because it hadn't been available on ibooks but, I was finally able to get my hands on a copy and, let me just say, it was well worth the wait. I love Jameson and Addison. Their shared chemistry is on fire and I love that Addy was able to help Jameson finally let go of his long held grudge against shifters. I also really enjoyed the time to catch up with the other characters from the series. I'm hoping the author will one day write more stories in this world because I love it so much.

Until then, I will content myself with her other fabulous books!

Sweet, funny fast read.

I really liked this book, glad to see Jameson have a mate and get a happy ending (even if we didn't hear too much from him throughout the series) as he is an important and oft mentioned character. The addition of Addison (a shifter at that) as the new beta/alpha and his mate was a nice touch and endingish for this series. Was glad to get an update on the other couples, although it was never said what Sasha's last child was (unless I glossed over it) and good to know Charles and Ann had a baby girl! My only minor concern is Adan, unless I missed it, he hasn't been mentioned since the attack on Sasha at the Mata compound!!!

Another entertaining story by K.F. Breene. Jameson had many commanding qualities which made him a great asset and a strong leader. However, he was very lonely in his personal life and still fighting his own demons from the past. Meeting a powerful shifter with a similar personality was bound to have a positive affect on Jameson. Both characters were impressive and the drama of the story leaves room for future episodes. This narrative was very exciting and added a heartwarming personal touch as Jameson and Addison found each other just in time for Christmas so they could start a new year and a new chapter in their lives as a couple.!!!!!

Great series!

Couldn't put it down. Read all nine books in two weeks. Characters were great. Charles is my favorite! Only thing I would change... the author changes POV quite often and not just between two people, which isn't a problem, I like that there are more than two POV's. I just wish the chapters were labeled by who's POV we are in. The chapters would flow easier if we weren't spending the first one or two paragraphs of each chapter trying to figure out who it was. Still a great series though. Hope there is another one coming that shows them all down the road a bit.

Too fast

I was looking forward to the story of Jamison since he was the least known of the characters from earlier books. However, the author skipped over a lot of necessary character development to write a Christmas themed story.

Fast pace worked with the preceding novels about Charles and Jonas because they were so integral to the foundation books. This was a little shallower and I felt like the author didn’t even write it since Sasha’s personality was different and she changed the spelling of Ann.

I loved this series and this one was no exception. It’s a quick dip back into mansion life with Jameson as the focus. He’s about to fall and it’s going to be hard and fast, and with the enemy. The pack has a new Beta and a new threat. Being highly organised, intelligent and not at all busy during the Christmas period, Jameson is the logical choice to investigate who or what is stalking the shifters. If you’ve followed the series, then you won’t want to miss checking back in with the gang. A great, quick read. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Beautiful just Beautiful

I've read the whole series within a space of a week. Just realized that it's finished and there's no more. I LOVE! LOVE each and everyone of the books, but wish that there's more. All of the books were wonderfully written. I laughed, especially when it comes to the Charles character. If its possible could you write a short story like epilogue about what happen to each of the different mated characters. Thanks much again Ms. Breene for allowing us to interact within our characters lives.

This is a really quick and short romance featuring second in command Jameson ,who gets personality transplant for the sake of this story, and Andy, a new character created for the sake of pairing off Jameson. There is basically no plot or storyline. They meets, are immediately attracted and aroused by each other and get to mating and "i love yous" in 24 hours.
I would have given higher rating if this story fit in with series and had a substance. As it is, it is quite shallow, even if it is sweet. Centered on sex. Not a bad read, but not good either.
