When Sedona's most eligible bachelor is accused of murdering a local psychic, medium Phoebe Carlisle finds herself drawn into the danger that surrounds him—by the meddling of the shades she channels and by his irresistible charms. A public defender and a gifted medium, Phoebe is devoted to justice—and not just for the living. Proving Rafe Diamante's innocence means conjuring up two shades who were former lovers and now ignite the chemistry between their hosts.
Rafe can't afford to lose control and act on his feelings for Phoebe. His unfulfilled sexual tension begins to stir something inside him—the legacy of Quetzalcoatl. But as these newfound abilities awaken a dormant power in Rafe, can he stop the real murderer in time to claim his true destiny?
Jane Kindred is the author of epic fantasy series The House of Arkhangel’sk, Demons of Elysium, and Looking Glass Gods. She spent her formative years ruining her eyes reading romance novels in the Tucson sun and watching Star Trek marathons in the dark. She now writes to the sound of San Francisco foghorns while two cats slowly but surely edge her off the side of the bed.
Plot: 4/5 Characterisation: 3/5 Prose: 3/5 How much I enjoyed it: 3/5 I'm not sure what to make of this book. The plot when stripped down is simple and straightforward but the world building and the style of writing makes it confusing.
"This is an exciting book that includes interesting Aztec mythology and plenty of non-stop action Additionally, the sexual tension between Rafe and Phoebe is on fire, and the descriptions used to describe the paranormal elements of Phoebe’s medium abilities are quite good. Definitely a keeper" (4 1/2 stars TOP PICK! @ RT Book Reviews).
First book in Kindred’s Sisters in Sin series. I think this the first book that I have read that was based solely on the Aztec pantheon. I really enjoyed this book. I had to do some research on the deities in order to keep the gods straight. Loved Phoebe and Rafe. They were well-written and complex characters. Can’t wait to read the next two books in the series. They are in my TBR shelf.
The cover copy makes this book sound cheesier than it is. I found it to have a compelling mystery and really interesting magic system. Smart, funny women and a wounded hero with a heart of (Aztec) gold.
First time reading a romance novel. Funny and dramatic, fast read. I liked the heroine, Phoebe, but wasn't actually too crazy about the hero. Loved Jane Kindred's writing style.
